    #224. Knight of Prophecy 3

    “You are a peculiar ghost.”

“That’s why you’re alive. You’re a messenger right? Among those who killed me were messengers. If I were a normal ghost you wouldn’t have survived.”

    “….”

“So are you going to tell the story or not?”

“Of course I should do it for you. But before that… I need to eat something.”

“Oh then don’t worry about that.”

Planck approached the water’s edge. Covered in the chill of death he swung his sword at the water’s edge and the fish floated to the surface in shock from the chill.

    “You can cook it yourself.”

    “Oh I understand. Okay.”

The young man began to tell a story while grilling the guts of the fish Planck had caught for him.

    *********

When Azadin woke up he was in the middle of a vast ocean.

The small lifeboat he was riding was floating along the current on its own and a gentle magical fog enveloped the boat protecting it from its surroundings.

Azadin ate the biscuits left in the hold of the boat and drank the rainwater he had collected while waiting for the boat to reach land.

Being isolated at sea inevitably gave me a lot of time to think and when I thought about it I was filled with regret.

Arael from my childhood came to mind.

Arael was arrogant cruel and yet beautiful.

Even if it was a form of self-protection from the surrounding threats there was no reason for Azadin to understand it because he was the victim and Arael was the perpetrator.

    however….

Thinking back Arael was still a child not even ten years old at the time.

Now that I think about it Azadin also misunderstood Arael. He thought she was a perfect genius from the beginning and believed that her heart was like gold and stone without blood or tears.

    “Eww!”

When his thoughts were cornered and his anger boiled over Azadin shouted at the sea for no reason.

I hated Aragasa for driving Arael and Azadin to such a fate of killing each other and I hated Arael for being so arrogant and self-righteous and handling everything on her own.

But more than anything I felt ashamed of my own helplessness.

When people feel the seven emotions of lust they naturally want their dignity to be respected but this world tramples on the dignity of the powerless.

The problem was Azadin’s current condition.

Thanks to Arael’s sacrifice his permanent injuries were healed and he was able to move again but the magical power within him was left in disarray.

In the first place the way of Kazas is called the double-edged sword the Demon King who eats the magic book.

Originally Azadin displayed his power by converting the magical power generated by activating the colorless magical power book he received from Kazas into physical strength in addition to the incomplete magical power book of the Flower Bird Wind and Moon that he was born with.

After obtaining a copy of the Book of the New King Arael made it more complicated by including a copy of the Book of the New King but the magic that Arael learned was much more than that.

There were many complex colorless magic books such as the ones with powerful spells like those of Azadin as well as other multicolored magic books that were said to be difficult for humans to handle.

As all of this flowed into Azadin Azadin ended up becoming unable to control his magic.

The bowstring which had usually felt as light as a feather now felt so heavy that it made me sweat when I pulled it back.

    “Hmm.”

Although he avoided becoming a wreck he was unable to call himself a member of the Herald Clan until he had sorted out the grimoires that had entered his body.

Azadin immediately immersed himself in order to organize the grimoires but it was by no means easy to control the grimoires stored in his body without learning the principles.

It was understandable why Kazas who stole the grimoires by killing and eating others forcibly extracted magical power from the grimoires using the outrageous method of Kazas Haeseo.

Does that mean that the grimoires attributed to Arael will collide with the Kazas Sea?

    That couldn’t be possible.

If he did something like that the magical powers of the grimoire that were already stored in his body would shatter Azadin’s body into pieces. He couldn’t create an uncontrollable storm.

“Oh my God. I need a teacher. This is… something I can’t handle alone.”

Azadin felt bewildered. Who would teach him magic now that the Senate of Aragatha had fallen and Azadin had become their traitor?

The lifeboat arrived at a fishing village in the Kingdom of Arangi.

Azadin who survived on fish and rainwater was able to obtain food by asking the people of the fishing village.

But people were strangely friendly. Most people didn’t even ask for money from Azadin.

At first I didn’t understand why but soon I found out.

Arael’s eyes grew on his body and the scars on his face disappeared.

Many people feared and were fascinated by Azadin who had the intense purple eyes of the peerless beauty Arael and the eyes of Harconia the first leader of the Herald Clan.

He is scary because he is considered to be beautiful noble and not to be treated lightly.

It was a truly unfamiliar evaluation for Azadin who was naturally looked down upon as an eyeless monster.

But Azadin was ashamed of those eyes. His sister told Azadin that she would return the things she had taken from him but to Azadin they clearly belonged to Arael.

He put his mask back on as it was proof that he had taken not only Arael’s life but also her body.

And he made it a point to pay people for what he had eaten.

But isn’t it true that there are monsters that harm people nearby?

    *********

“But my strength was weaker than expected so I was unable to deal with those monsters and ran away exhausted and collapsing.”

“Hahaha. Are you saying that the traitor who destroyed the Herald Clan couldn’t handle such lowly monsters? I guess he’s gotten weaker.”

    Planck burst into laughter.

It’s not that it wasn’t true from the moment he first saw her Planck thought that Azadine wouldn’t last long.

Although it is said that he was revived through fusion with Arael it seems clear that both Azadin and Arael were on the verge of death when they fused.

But… he is a young man with a strange fate.

Born from a curse given the name of a double-edged swordsman and born of his sister’s blood he escaped the fate of death. Above all I am concerned that he is a true believer in the Knights of Salvation and has received a miracle.

‘And he’s looking for a magic master. Hmm. Should I teach him? But that’s….’

Planck suddenly remembered the prophecy that had been given to him. The last person to be appointed by Planck would become the flower of chivalry.

‘He a member of a clan of soulless blasphemies will become the flower of chivalry… What an absurd prophecy. This guy has exhausted his energy too much. Even if I were to teach him now I wonder how much longer he will live.’

Planck is of royal blood. He still has a conservative side even after being betrayed by his disciple and becoming a death knight as he does not have good feelings toward the herald clan.

But Planck was being tortured by boredom.

    “That’s what you said.”

In the end Planck ended up speaking first.

“You said you needed a teacher?”

    “Yes? Oh yes sir.”

“If it’s okay with you I’ll teach you. I’ll help you organize the grimoires inside you and regain your strength. Since you’re a Knight of Wisdom I don’t think it’s something you can’t do.”

    “Yes? Are you serious?”

“Of course you won’t just do it for free you have to grant my wish.”

    “Oh yes. Water of course.”

“Hehe. You’re in a hurry young man. I haven’t even told you what I want yet. What are you going to do if I ask for something too much?”

“Usually people don’t tell you what they want but just ask for a definitive answer.”

“Call me Sir Planck. I will also call you Azadin.”

    “Yes Sir Planck.”

“Okay Azadin. First let’s get a proper tent. As for the tent… well the sun will rise soon and those monsters won’t come out so if you search the bushes over there you’ll find an abandoned one.”

Planck pointed to the place where he had been killed by Cohen Lionaire.

    “yes.”

“And since it will take some time get the necessary items for a long-term stay in addition to the tent.”

    “All right.”

After hearing Planck’s words Azadin stood up from his seat as if he was about to prepare his luggage but then stopped.

    “Oh but that Sir Planck.”

    “What?”

“Is the ghost of Arael still there?”

    “No. It’s gone.”

    “….”

“Do you want to meet a ghost?”

“I don’t know about that. I hope my sister finds peace but I miss her. Even though we’re blood relatives we didn’t really talk much. We… didn’t talk much.”

While Azadin returned to the village Planck was left alone in the wilderness again.

When he first saw Azadin he thought he was a member of the herald clan that had ambushed him and was secretly displeased with him but when he disappeared he realized how long he had lived in loneliness and boredom.

Azadin’s life story was by no means short.

It was a story that took enough time to burn through the long night and reduce a mountain of firewood to ashes but Planck could remember it all vividly as if it were his own story.

While I was contemplating that story and relieving my boredom Azadin returned.

    “Elder.”

    “Lord Planck!”

Planck reacted nervously. Then Azadin said in confusion.

“Yes Sir Planck. During the day you are transparent. When the sun goes down you become visible.”

“That’s surprising. You’re saying that it doesn’t exist during the day but becomes transparent?”

“Oh yes. My eyesight is a bit special.”

“You said that you could see things without any problems even without your eyes? Then what if you close your eyes now?”

    “I can see it.”

“Then that special vision still remains. That’s good. I won’t be affected by glare magic.”

Planck who was so impressed looked around and flinched.

    “….”

A tent had been set up. It was old and worn but it was definitely the tent Planck himself had been carrying when he was murdered. But when?

Suddenly he felt Azadin looking at him with a worried expression.

‘I see. My mind is wandering right now. I think I’m fine but in reality a lot of time has passed. Come to think of it it’s only natural that I’ve become a Death Knight. I shouldn’t believe that my mind and existence are entirely mine. But if that’s the case…’

Azadin’s call to himself as “elder” was not because he had forgotten his request but rather because he kept calling him by various titles while he was wandering around sometimes unconscious.

Despite such circumstances Azadin maintained a humble attitude without making any excuses. Was it because he was from a herald clan with a strict hierarchy?

‘…It seems like he has the potential to be a teacher. Too bad. Neither the teacher nor the student are doing well.’

The strange master-student relationship between the Death Knight and the young man of the dying herald clan began.
