Night of the Soulless Heathens – 222
by Jessie@AFNCC
#222. Knight of Prophecy 1
In the past the continent of Hybris was occupied by the Nether messengers.
In response the Kurt gods waged war against the Nether messengers and with the help of the Yaegas gods who later joined they succeeded in driving out the Nether clans from the Hybris continent. (The Kurt gods claim that they alone fought and won against the Nether while the Yaegas gods claim that they helped greatly and the two sides have conflicting claims.)
However the Nether’s servants had the power to pollute reality with their language alone so the gods felt the need to completely isolate them.
The one chosen at that time was Netherstrom.
It was a giant sea whirlpool located where the Arangian Inland Sea and the Hybris Peninsula meet.
By pouring the corpses and blood of the Nether clansmen into the bottom of the endlessly swirling torrent and sealing them in the deep sea the continent of Hybris was finally safe from the threat of the Nether.
But when Jupiter’s gravity grows stronger the waters of the Netherstrom weaken and the blood of the Nether boils…
Whenever the world came under the influence of Jupiter the Nether monsters would appear on the Hybris Peninsula and cause terrible damage. That is why the people of Hybris call the era of destruction the ‘Age of Jupiter’.
Right now the current is only weakening for a moment when Jupiter’s gravity grows stronger but one day when Jupiter’s gravity grows stronger than it is now the seal on Netherstrom will be completely broken and the Nether’s messengers will once again rule this land.
It is unclear whether this prophecy of destruction was coming true or if it was simply a cycle of weakening seals that had always existed but the situation was dire.
“Aragasa will turn everything upside down.”
Dimia sighed at their fallen state and the prospect of even more intense persecution in the future.
It is already widely known to the world that the Herald Clan joined hands with the Nagas and attacked Korhalsahar Bthuma using nether magic.
What would those who knew that fact think if the Age of Jupiter had begun? Wouldn’t they think that the subsequent disasters were caused by the evil magic of the fallen Heralds?
Even now the Jeonryong clan is already being persecuted but from now on they will be regarded as mortal enemies who must be killed as soon as they are seen with their terrible public deeds.
“Rather than that shouldn’t we fight now? It’s too much with just the sailors.”
Seraph pointed to the sea.
Sirens were appearing in the sea. Sirens appeared in the form of beautiful women and sang songs to seduce humans. When sailors who were enchanted jumped into the sea the Sirens would rush in and tear the sailors apart devouring their blood and flesh.
“Are you guys feeling bad? Shoot some arrows. I’ll go.”
Indim jumped from the ship taking with him Arael’s heirloom the Wendigo Dagger (which had originally belonged to Azadin).
The moment the Sirens rushed at Indim seeing him as a poor victim of their delusion Indim unleashed his magic.
-Living in the wind and moon of flowers and birds!
When he used the technique of teleporting over the enemy’s heads Indim’s position changed and he appeared above and behind the Sirens.
-Wedge!
Indim swung his Azure Steel hatchet and Wendigo dagger chopping up the Sirens and landing on the water.

“He’s talented too.”
Dimia muttered in admiration of Indim’s splendid performance.
Indim ran across the sea slashing his hatchet and Wendigo dagger into the water causing a spray of water. A huge spray of water rose from the water cutting up the Sirens that were caught in its path.
Indim who had been running at such a high speed spun around and slid down and when he slashed the Wendigo’s dagger into the water the sea froze and a block of ice was created. Indim stood on the block of ice and took a short rest.
“Ugh…..”
“Ahhhhh.”
The Sirens taunt Indim with their beautiful voices. The waters turn bloody and countless Sirens float around dead.
“Huh. Looks good. Yeah?”
Indim suddenly saw a black shadow appear under the water.
“Oh no! Whale no….”
Suddenly a huge crocodile-like creature appeared and rammed the ship from below. The whale-sized crocodile was pushing up against the sailboat which was almost as big as its own body.
A two-masted sailing ship not small at all rose from the water. After floating about a foot in the air the ship crashed into the water breaking its keel and scattering its contents its crew in all directions.
“Eww!”
“Ahhhh!”
Some died instantly from the impact alone. Some were lucky enough to avoid the ship’s debris and fall to the surface without being hit but they were soon attacked by the Siren and dragged into the sea.
“shit!”
Dimia and Seraph managed to step on the debris in the air maintain their balance and land in the sea. However Azadin failed and fell into the water.
“Ugh!”
“No! It’s Arael-sama’s will!”
Seraph climbed onto a nearby lifeboat that had overturned and fallen into the sea. As he tried to save Azadin with it other sailors began to cling to it.
“Hey wait a minute!”
“Save me!”
“These kids…..”
Seraph considered whether he should harm the sailors in order to monopolize the ship but before he could do anything the Sirens came and dragged the sailors away.
Siren rushed at Seraph but Seraph easily swung his sword and hit Siren in the heart. Siren flew away spewing blood and the recoil rocked the boat.
“Hmm.”
Seraph clicked his tongue as he saw that the Siren who was hit by his fist and flew away did not die instantly. She was too weak.
Of course those who did not know the usual Seraph would have been astonished at the power of the one punch that blew away the Siren but Seraph himself was not satisfied.
Just moving now makes my body hurt. Fighting the Sirens on the sea in this condition.
What about that giant crocodile dragon…
“Indim! I will rescue Azadin and send him to land! Kill the crocodile dragon!”
“Is it really necessary to go that far to save that guy?”
“If you do that I’ll keep it a secret that you used to comfort yourself by sucking on Arael’s hair.”
“this….”
Indim gritted his teeth in shock at Seraph’s words.
“If I tell you there’s no point in keeping it a secret.”
Dimia immediately placed Azadin on the overturned boat and scolded Seraph.

“If you keep messing around like that you’ll really die by Indim’s hand someday?”
Seraph pretended not to hear Dimia’s warning and cast a spell on the boat Azadin was riding. It was a spell that would drift and drift but would definitely reach land.
Seraph who had exhausted all his magical power by using this spell lost his energy and fell to the surface. Dimia picked up Seraph and moved him to another boat nearby.
“Then we have to get the attention of the crocodile dragon.”
A boat with the spell of drifting will never capsize in a normal storm but will instead gain speed and reach the nearest land. However if a crocodile dragon or other monsters attack and capsize the boat it is a different story.
Dimia decided to make it difficult for the boat to be discovered by casting a fog of illusion on it and together with Seraph they would act as bait to lure the monsters.
“…Is it really worth doing this?!”
Indim asked as he watched the crocodile dragon lunge at him with its mouth wide open.
“Because Aleph loved her. If Aleph were alive he would definitely want to continue her legacy.”
Seraph named his brother who had been absorbed into him and disappeared.
“That’s the same for you. Why are you selling Aleph?”
Dimia smiled bitterly raised her bow and aimed at the crocodile dragon.
Of course Arael may have betrayed them. However the four members of Hwajopungwol were originally people who gathered because Arael liked them and they had no interest in wealth fame or power.
I just wish they had told me in advance. They just don’t like the fact that Arael makes decisions on her own without confiding in them or trusting them.
‘But I guess the joy of love is to grant the wish of the person you love!’
Dimia fired an arrow with her weakened body.
*********
A death knight was wandering above the fields overlooking the Arangian Inland Sea at the southern tip of the Arangi Kingdom.
Planck of wisdom.
One of the former captains of the Knights of Salvation this death knight once known as the Knight of Wisdom made his sword skills and reputation known far and wide by cutting down those who broke his peace.
Coxhal a coastal city bordering the Arangian Inland Sea offered a bounty of 20 gold coins and a knighthood to anyone who could defeat the Death Knight but no one dared challenge him.
The real protagonist of the rumor the knight of death Plank Martensias was searching through the old house dragging his sword.
“It’s free. I never knew that being free could be this painful.”
He was bored living his life wandering through the wilderness and fields unable to die. He wished he had someone to talk to but ordinary people would run away in fear at the mere sight of him.
Even the adventurers who rushed at him with the intention of killing him fled in blood-curdling fear and urinating themselves as soon as they got within ten paces of him.
This way I can’t even have a conversation with anyone.
It would be nice if I could read a book but many Arangians worship manliness more than learning so finding a book was like finding fruit in a drought.
“Ah there’s nothing significant. Well how could anyone who can read and write be in a woodcutter’s shed like this? …Hmm?”
The Death Knight Planck was searching through an old lumberjack’s cabin when he discovered something carved into a pillar. It was a worn-out scratch that had been made several times to match the height of a growing child perhaps to measure the child’s height.
Touching it Sir Planck imagined the lives and lifestyles of the people who must have lived here. He was bored to death without books so even this small scratch provided a little relief.
“…I would rather sleep. Sweet oblivion. Why have you forsaken me?”
A ghostly body that can’t even sleep. I’m bored to death but there’s nothing I can do.
No matter how hard I tried to leave this place I would end up walking around like crazy and eventually end up back where I was. It seemed like I couldn’t get away from the place where I died more than a certain distance away.
“If I could meet someone I would give them my beloved sword as well. Huh?”
At that moment a strange bird caught Sir Planck’s eye.
Normally birds would be afraid of him the Death Knight and would not dare to come near him but this bird was different.
No wonder because the bird had a horrible blinking eye on its chest.
“Who are you? Hmm?”
In response to the death knight’s question the bird stared quietly at one spot.
There was a vague image of a human female there.
A woman with beautiful black hair raised her hand elegantly and pointed toward the stream below the hill.
“If you wish to be saved you are wrong. I am already a being of death and I am of no use to the living. However since I have already seen it I cannot bear this boredom and will end up touching it.”
Sir Planck perhaps out of boredom or perhaps out of a sense of destiny walked in the direction the woman pointed.
