    #217. Herald of Destruction 2

Azadin fired an arrow at Aldis and moved reflexively.

The body moves before the mind.

My light my star my everything.

Even if you knew that it wasn’t Aldis right now but just a reaper’s vanguard trying to take over her body and read the memories left in that body to understand this world…

    Still it was dazzlingly beautiful.

But Azadin attacks it without hesitation.

Indeed the movements are incomparably dull compared to the real Aldis.

An arrow struck Aldis in the chest and Azadin’s swing of the blue executioner cut off her arm.

Azadin circled her and struck her in the legs cutting off the calves below the knees on both her legs. However she did not fall.

If the Qing executioner had cut him the wound would have opened wide and caused massive bleeding but Aldis did not shed a single drop of blood.

Instead a black mist flows from the wound. The black mist connects the severed limbs and holds her body together.

    “Hahahahaha. Azadin Azadin.”

It snaps its fingers as it takes possession of Aldis’ body.

“Don’t rush. I still need time. I am still understanding the knowledge of the memories engraved on this body so wouldn’t you wait just a little bit?”

It was speaking in Aldis’s voice but it was definitely a reaper. An otherworldly reaper had taken over Aldis’ body and was trying to understand the present world through her flesh.

The incarnation of the god of death. The god of death has descended to this world in the form of Aldis.

    “Yeah. You still have time?”

Azadin stepped back and climbed onto the quartz throne.

The purpose was to cut off the Quartz Throne from the power of the Nether by injecting it with a grimoire made by combining copies of the Book of the New King with the grimoire given by Arael.

But then came an unexpected interruption. An arrow flew at Azadin not the incarnation of the Death God. Hatir picked up the arrow from the ground and shot it at Azadin.

It’s a very weak arrow for the leader of the messenger clan. Perhaps it’s because Hathir’s body hasn’t fully recovered.

‘You’re attacking me in this situation? Are you crazy?’

Azadin was about to say that as he snatched Hathir’s arrow from his hand.

    “Ugh.”

Azadin’s body was also not normal.

The hand holding the arrow slipped and he fell backwards on his butt. Fortunately the arrow lost much of its strength in Azadin’s hand and did not penetrate his armor.

If it was an arrow fired by the messenger clan its power would have been so great that even if Azadin caught it with his hand it would easily pierce through leather armor like wet paper but seeing that the attack was blocked it seems that both Hatir and Azadin are in a terrible state.

    “What are you doing Hatir!”

“You must let the Hybris and their king handle this messenger. If you wish to live then leave Azadin! Do not even think about using that strange book of Arael!”

Hathir longs for more Nether messengers to appear in this land and kill the Hybrisians.

Although he did cut down the Nether’s messengers with Ararat it was a measure to save himself and he never intended to interfere with the messengers.

This man sincerely wishes to release the messengers to artificially start the Age of Jupiter and kill the people of Hybris.

“You idiot! Isn’t it because someone like you is the leader that the clan ended up like this?!”

    “Idiot?”

Hatir was shocked by Azadin’s words.

    *********

The Aragasas the messenger clan are a people with a very strong sense of hierarchy.

The two leaders Hatir and Azadin are enemies and ignore each other but originally the difference in rank was so great that Azadin should not have dared even step on Hatir’s shadow.

Moreover Acre was actually one of Hatir’s descendants.

Hatir had children by taking women from Aragatha several times in order to mix his blood with the gods and Acre was one of them. Azadin the child of Acre was one of Hatir’s distant descendants.

The difference in social status is so stark and even if he had been born normally Azadin would be his descendant so Hatir cannot help but be turned away when he criticizes and insults her.

In addition being called incompetent and low-income was bound to be the most sensitive insult to the Aragasas who were obsessed with meritocracy.

Azadin was insulted by his clan not only because he was the son of the traitor Acre but also because he was the weakest member of the clan which led to his incompetence.

Their perception can be seen in the respect shown to Arael a child of the same Acre and Hatir is no exception.

Competence and incompetence are what Aragasa is obsessed with and yet Azadin the most powerless and lowly member of the clan is the one insulting Hatir by calling her incompetent and stupid.

“Yes! We were trained as messengers but you were born a leader because you are the Emperor’s child! Untested and untrained! You are not a messenger! That is why you made such a strategically and tactically foolish choice!”

Azadin noticed that Hatir had no tactical training as a messenger.

Swordsmanship martial arts archery and magic are the kinds of culture that nobles and royalty always want to acquire. On the other hand the operational ability to adapt to various situations and carry out operations as an agent is strictly speaking an ability required by those who are under their command.

The crown prince has no need to learn swordsmanship or magic or develop operational abilities.

    “You bastard…..”

Hathir excited by Azadin’s provocation pulled his bow and cast a spell. Even though he knew that it would not work on Azadin he cast the Emperor’s magic and attacked Azadin.

Of course Hatir wasn’t stupid enough to do such a thing. The Emperor’s lightning was so dazzling that he mixed it in order to blind Azadin with its light and then pour down arrows in the gap.

I also wondered if the Emperor’s magic would not work this time.

The Emperor’s Voice elemental can project its presence throughout Hybris without directly intervening in events.

Since the Emperor’s voice directly intervened and exercised power it must have caused great damage to his existence.

Could it be that the Emperor’s magic is no longer working?

But this time the Emperor’s voice protected Azadin from the Emperor’s magic.

Azadin who had no eyes was originally immune to glare so he calmly dodged the attacks aimed at him even in the splendid light of the Emperor’s thunderbolt.

“When I said I would take the throne everyone agreed that I wanted to be a being that would rule over the Hybris not a world where the Hybris died and the gods roamed! That’s why the rebellion broke out and the already small numbers of Aragasa were further reduced.”

“Then we should further reduce the number of Whibrisians!”

“If you kill so many you will have to farm with your own hands and weave ropes in your hut. The Crown Prince is quite capable of such things.”

    “….”

Hatir also knew that his words were far-fetched.

Every single thing Azadin pointed out hit home.

Isn’t this ruin the result of him pushing ahead with his own plans forgetting that he should have persuaded and made others understand from the bottom up because his position was so high that he always held power?

“Admit it! Your plan failed the moment Arael rebelled! If Aldis and Kazas who loved and defended you hadn’t been there it would have ended up as the delusion of the Crown Prince of the Attic….”

Azadin paused after verbally attacking Hatir for a while. Something inside him welled up as he mentioned Kazas and Aldis.

    “Why do they….”

In Azadin’s view Hatir is unworthy of love.

They were only faithful to their own delusional goals and had no regard for Kazas or Aldis yet they were willing to give their lives for Hatir and even preferred him to Azadin themselves.

Even though Azadin loved her so much they cherished Hatir more than Azadin.

    “shit!”

Azadin succeeded in putting together a new grimoire from the bundle of copies of the Book of the New King that Arael had handed over.

    “no!”

Hathir tried to stop Azadin but he was already too far away and had used up all his arrows.

Azadin managed to shake off Hatir’s interference and place the grimoire into the quartz throne.

Then the throne began to glow. Pure white light began to emanate from within the quartz crystal that had been filled with murky black slag dispelling the darkness.

    “Ahhhhh!”

Aldis who had become the incarnation of the god of death twisted his body in agony.

Not only that. The grim reapers wandering around the palace also roar in agony making my lower abdomen tingle and my ears feel like they’re going to burst.

Azadin also fell to his knees unable to overcome the shock.

The Book of the New King that Arael had touched was being sucked back into the quartz throne restoring its function.

However the light of the King’s Flower is not enough. The light of the King’s Flower is too weak to banish the summoned messengers and purify the world.

It is said that when a true king sits the light of the king’s flower protects the world….

‘In my current physical condition if I sit on the throne I’m finished.’

The palace already in shambles due to the earthquake was once again shaking and collapsing. The ceiling was cracked and the sky was visible.

Azadin’s body was a mess from losing a lot of blood and because he had just thrust all the copies of the Book of the New King into the quartz throne the white magic power remaining in his body had been exhausted from the act of shoving the books into it and he was extremely weak.

Sitting on the throne in this situation?

It’s a problem whether the throne accepts it or not and it’s dangerous even if it doesn’t. If you don’t run away quickly…

    That was when.

    -Pfft!

This time an arrow was stuck in Azadin’s right arm.

To be exact it was an arrow aimed at Azadin’s heart that Azadin unconsciously caught with his right arm.

Unlike the weak arrows that Hatir had shot these were truly powerful arrows from the messenger.

    “Ugh!”

Zion Etar entered the palace with his men.

    “Azadin!”

And Medium was watching the scene. He was led in by the servants tied up with ropes and unable to move and found Azadin covered in blood.

How can you lose so much blood? And both your left and right arms are tattered.

If it weren’t for the magic that Shati cast if it weren’t for the healing that Aldis cast on the king he would have died long ago.

“I never thought things would work out this well.”

    “….”

Hathir frowned as he watched Zion Etar and his men enter.

When he was in his prime he was a loyal servant. A young man of the Senate a member of the Five Great Houses but a humble and respectable little boy. And of course he was a descendant of Hathir.

But now I felt a sinister murderous aura coming from Zion Etar.

“What about Arael? Did you kill her?”

Hatir had to struggle to maintain his dignity when dealing with Zion.

His physical condition was also not good. He had already suffered injuries that would have made it no wonder he died in the fight with Azadin. He had exhausted his magical power and vitality and was practically an empty shell. However he still asked him sternly.

    “haha.”

Zion Etar burst into hollow laughter.
