Night of the Soulless Heathens – 201

#201. Traitor of the Clan 3
The boy had to give up his dreams from an early age.
‘Our family has received great favor from the Etar clan so you should assist her.’
Even though he was still young Ismail could see the hidden meaning in those words.
Don’t put yourself first but sacrifice and yield everything to her for the sake of Medium.
Give up the opportunity for self-realization and sacrifice only for the good of the family.
Sadly the boy gave up his dream because there was always more food in his mouth than he could bear to give up and the modest generosity and favors of the Etar clan were real.
So I decided to pursue the girl.
embrace.
The girl is beautiful and arrogant so she will give her eyes to the boy who humbles himself and becomes her servant but will not give her heart.
Those were unbearable days where I had to lie to myself and give up on my dreams.
But this man who is rejected by the entire clan suddenly says that the stars are beautiful…
Like admiring the Knights Templar who serve the angels who sacrificed themselves to protect humanity or their mission and role as the Emperor’s messenger.
It speaks of aesthetics or justice.
He was talking about an unbroken dream.
It’s disgusting. It’s ugly and hateful.
As the clan moved to seize and dominate everything this disgusting man dared to stand in their way.
Are you out of your mind?
If you put this man and his clan on a scale there’s no need to ask which side it will tip. Any man in his right mind would naturally choose his clan.
however….
The boy let go of his hand.
He was a disgusting annoying and downright disgusting man but for some reason the boy chose him over his clan.
I knew the truth.
What makes this man disgusting is that he is a mirror.
The clearer and sharper the mirror the uglier and more hateful the self reflected on its surface is.
So disgusting to look at.

This man talks about a dream he gave up on early on and a clan that is burning with ambition and wants to devour everything.
The boy’s scales were tipped in favor of the man.

As Ismail let go Grimsloun’s club began to dance again and strike at the Khaldun men.
“Hey you punk! Colluding with the enemy!”
Haldun who was being held captive by Azadin screamed but Azadin lightly strangled Haldun instantly knocking him unconscious.
“It’s time kid.”
The surprised servants of Haldun tried to rush in but Azadin abandoned the unconscious Haldun and charged at the servants.
It was as if a ferocious bear had jumped into the sheep pen. A gust of wind blew and the servants were thrown out.
“That’s ridiculous!”
“Is this the dullard Azadin!?”
Haldun’s servants were secretly proud of their skills which were on a par with those of a formal messenger.
So they ignored Azadin who was fortunate enough to be a disciple of Elder Kazas and had Aldis as his guardian even though he was a prestigious messenger.
But Azadin was a monster beyond their expectations.
They tried to escape late but Ismail and Midiam joined Azadin and blocked their escape route.
“You traitorous bastards! Why….”
“The betrayal was committed by the Senate. The curse of service was not the work of the Emperor but of Hathir the leader of the Senate.”
“lie!”
“I guess that’s how you’d react. But since you’re not carrying any evidence right now let’s discuss this later and just be a prisoner.”
Azadin gradually subdued Khaldun’s servants.
In the end Khaldun and his servants all ended up rolling on the floor.
“Amazing Azadin. You were amazing when I saw you before but now you’ve become even more amazing.”
Midiam was impressed by how easily Azadin was able to deal with the Khaldun gang. She had originally intended to join in but all she and Ismail did was block their escape route and Azadin dealt with most of it himself.
“But you didn’t kill him.”
Ismail clicked his tongue as he looked at the groaning Khaldun gang lying on the ground.
“Because if I kill you there’s no turning back.”
“They want to kill you? Isn’t that too arrogant? And from the clan’s perspective you are a traitor who has poured cold water on the clan’s wishes. Just like your father. You will be a target to be killed as soon as you are seen so why bother…”
“If there is a threat then there is nothing I can do. However if there is no threat I would like to postpone killing until the very end.”
What this means is that the Haldun gang is not a threat.
Azadin called the Bthuma soldiers and had them arrest the fallen Khaldun men.
“Don’t kill me.”
“Yes the Golden Lion!”
“Golden Lion?”
Ismail found it strange that the soldiers were afraid of Azadin.
At that moment a human voice was heard from Azadin’s pocket.
“Captain! The messenger clan has appeared at the North Gate as well!”
A raven’s head hardened with syrup to prevent it from rotting was speaking to Scott.

“I guess it’s time to get moving.”
*********
After subduing the Haldun clan Azadin moved quickly to find and subdue other messenger clans.
Whether the clansmen were underestimating the Bthuma army or the void left by Arael and her followers was too great this time the group consisted of a young noble boy and his experienced servants to protect him.
Azadin subdued them so easily.
If they had run away along the way one or two people might have been able to escape but everyone let their guard down too easily when they saw Azadin so they didn’t have time to run away.
“I’m not in a position to say anything but everyone really looks down on you.”
Looking at those who made fun of Azadin and ended up being fooled Medium thought about her own shameful past. Didn’t she also make light of Azadin fight him lose and become Azadin’s servant?
“Thank you I am grateful. Notoriety is also fame.”
Azadin was not at all bothered by those of inferior rank than himself who dared to attack him and was rather glad that he could easily defeat them.
“So Medium. How many people are there now?”
“Are you talking about the clan? There are currently over 200 people occupying the fortress at the mouth of the Btuma River. Additional reinforcements are being added.”
“Over 200 people? Looks like they brought all the available personnel.”
Azadin looked from the storm-whipped ramparts toward the mouth of the Btuma River. The wind and rain made it hard to see but he could see the lights of the fortress in the distance.
“It looks like a very strategic point.”
“If the clan is determined they can easily take over a small fortress like that. On the other hand it would be impossible for the Bthuma army to reclaim it.”
If it’s a fortress guarded by 200 members of the herald clan it would be impregnable. What’s more that place is an island at the mouth of a river. It’s already a difficult place to approach.
“And there are additional reinforcements coming in. I guess that’s almost the entire possible number of members of the clan.”
Azadin groaned under the weight of that number.
The fact that 200 clansmen have gathered now that the Arael tribe has rebelled and escaped shows how strong the clan’s wishes are.
It’s scary to have to go against the will of such a clan head-on. No matter how firm Azadin’s resolve is it’s scary.
This is an act of turning the entire clan into enemies. Is Azadin really ready to do this?
But how many innocent people were killed when Coral Sahar fell? I couldn’t turn back when I thought of the Nagas eating humans and the people being killed.
furthermore.
“The one leading them is Elder Kazas. He is the one who knows Bthuma well.”
Ismail mentioned Kazas’ name as if he was trying to harass Azadin.
“Then… I guess I got caught right away.”
Azadin muttered absentmindedly at the mention of Elder Kazas leading the clan.
*********
Although a storm was brewing Btuma which was well prepared for heavy rain was able to withstand the rain without any major problems.
The Nagas’ attacks also soon subsided. No matter how strong the hierarchy is in Naga society they cannot continue to attack indiscriminately when the casualties are enormous.
As the Nagas’ attacks subsided the Golden King Manja-Zadek summoned those who had distinguished themselves and praised them. Azadin was among them.
“Well done Golden Lion. My judgment in choosing you is clear. My shoulders are lifted. So I would like to give you a reward. Is there anything you wish for?”
“Your Majesty I am sorry but the battle is still ongoing so I beg you to accept my reward.”
Azadin felt a hatred piercing through his body in proportion to the favor of Manza-Zadek.
The Golden King’s Ravens’ Captain Karchen and his faction are rather okay.
The blood mages necromancers and regular soldiers were wary of Azadin. Showing them that he was favored by Manza-Zadek would surely arouse their hatred.
But Manza-Zadek insisted on compensation.
“You probably won’t like the reward I give you. If you go against your own people and receive a reward from me it will seem like you have betrayed your own people for personal gain. In addition the attention of a mad king who could turn his back at any moment will be burdensome.”
Manza-Zadek had seen through Azadin’s mind precisely.
“So I want to give you a reward you can’t refuse.”
“What… are you talking about?”
“It is the power to forgive and save people. Even if they are a high-ranking sinner if you can convince them not to be a threat to me in the future I will forgive anyone.”
“that….”
It was too much authority to give to a single vassal. In fact the expressions on the faces of the other vassals who were wary of Azadin’s advance became fierce.
“You save the lives of those you choose and provide them with a way to eat and live. If you want to preserve your clan isn’t this the kind of authority you desperately desire? Are you still being humble?”
Manza-Zadek certainly understood Azadin’s position.
He turned his back on his clan because of his beliefs but he did not betray them because he had an enemy with them and wanted to kill them.
In that case the Manja-Zadek’s pardon power would be necessary for the survival of the clan.
“I will grant you the power to pardon the Herald Clan. It is a fitting reward for your devotion… and it is also my mission order to you. If the Herald Clan is to be pardoned for their crime of challenging the throne of Yaegas it will be through you alone. In other words if we win this war all the lives of the Herald Clan will be in your hands the Golden Lion. Then you will become the leader of the Herald Clan.”
The Golden King Manja-Zadek said so and smiled.
“This does not allow rejection. Accept it.”
“You are cruel Your Majesty.”
“It must be a power that others would covet and cannot bear Master Geumryongsa. You have no greed. Well then step back and rest. There are more difficult days ahead of you.”
“yes….”
Azadin left the audience chamber of the Golden King Manza-Zadek.
