    #190. Sugar Rush 6

“You’ve been waiting Captain?! I’m late because I’m cleaning up those rotten guys!”

Along with Scott’s loud voice some beings appeared. They were undead that had surged through the sugarcane fields near the clubhouse.

The adventurers were surprised when the undead armed with sugar cane harvesting sickles and various farming tools came rushing out. We haven’t even caught a single one of these messengers yet and now they’re undead!

    “Eek?!”

The farm owners were already injured by the Blunderbuss’ grenades. They were just sitting there while the blood mage stayed to treat their wounds but they should have run away while their wounds were still minor and risked worsening them.

    “…uh.”

The farmers also came to understand that there was no way to overcome this situation.

This guy originally prepared his troops and came into the clubhouse alone. To persuade the farm owner? If so there is still room for discussion.

    “Hey wait a minute.”

    “Oh I see. I see.”

    “We lost!”

“I’m impressed. I’m impressed. You’re truly an amazing martial artist!”

“Can I give you some money? How much should I give you?”

The farm owners were taken aback when they saw Azadin approaching them. However Azadin just laughed at them.

“You’re trying to negotiate now? But if I let you go now you might think about recruiting S-class adventurers to challenge me or releasing your private soldiers to attack me with human wave tactics.”

    “Oh no.”

“I will accept your offer to negotiate. We thought there was no point in playing the private game.”

“If you think about it no matter how many rabble there are in front of a dragon wouldn’t they all run away in panic at the sound of a roar? No matter how many chickens there are they can’t stand up to a dragon!”

Only then did the ranchers realize that Azadin had deliberately sent them away even though he was not under the spell. He had simply wanted to demonstrate his skills. He knew that this would make the negotiations go more smoothly.

But how arrogant is that? To hide your companions and come alone and then deliberately hand over the farm owners’ soldiers to the adventurers and then take them back.

But arrogance is the privilege of the strong. Azadin was a strong man who had no shortage of that privilege.

    *********

Azadin smiled as the farmhands and adventurers were completely overwhelmed.

“Hmm. Now it seems like you’re ready to listen to me. It’s sad that people resort to violence. We have the tool of language so why do we insist on using barbaric means to seek mutual understanding? We can just use words.”

Although Azadin was talking nonsense the farm owners kept nodding their heads as if they were hearing some golden rule.

    “That’s right. I totally agree!”

“We made a mistake. A very big mistake.”

But Azadin laughed at those farm owners.

“But when I think about it abolishing slavery isn’t a simple task. Even if you say you’ll abolish slavery slavery was originally prohibited by the Emperor’s law and the laws of the Eight Kingdoms but it’s been continued in secret. Do you think that can be eradicated in just one day? I think the important thing is the will to continue to make changes. Right?”

    “I guess so.”

“Do you think we can restore things to their original state in just three days?”

“We are also of high status. We don’t make such empty promises.”

“Don’t ignore the Bel Hoda Sugar Business Association. We are a people of honor.”

The farm owners beat their chests and claimed their honor before Azadin but Azadin ignored them and beckoned to the bird-masked men.

    “Second Commander… sir.”

“I was called and came here. I apologize for being late.”

Those who bowed their heads to Azadin were the subordinates of the messenger clan in charge of this area who had been summoned using their status as the second-in-command of Azadin.

“Welcome. I called you in a hurry but you came so quickly. Even though you’re my clan aren’t you a bit too unpredictable? Hahaha.”

Azadin pointed them to the farm owner snickering.

“These people run a farm and force people to come and find jobs for themselves. Isn’t that quite a feat?”

    “yes?”

“And you probably know how to make delicious sugar don’t you?”

    “I guess so.”

The messenger clan’s servants answered cautiously not knowing Azadin’s intentions.

    ‘What are your intentions?’

‘I used to ignore him as Azadin of Muan but he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in no time…’

‘Isn’t this guy trying to harm us?’

The messengers who had something to do with Azadin couldn’t help but be very sensitive to his every word and action. So they just had to agree and wait for Azadin to say more.

“Are we a clan that would invite anyone who can teach us?”

When Azadin asked that the servants of the messenger clan nodded. Now they understood what he meant and sighed in relief wiping their chests.

    “Yes that’s right. That’s right.”

“When we find someone with a talent that our clan needs we recruit them and let them use that talent for our clan.”

    “Or let them teach us.”

“Some people reject our offer but with a little persuasion they all happily become part of our clan.”

What the servants of the Herald Clan were saying applied directly to the human hunters here in Bel Hoda.

Just as Bel Hoda’s sugar plantations kidnap people to obtain workers the messenger clan’s servants also kidnap those they need.

The farm owners were not fools so they could understand what Azadin and the messenger’s servants were saying.

    “Eek?!”

    “That’s ridiculous!”

“You’re going to take us as slaves?! You crazy bastard! If you do something like that….”

“If you do something like that your heirs will be very persuaded. If you don’t work hard to abolish slavery their father will come back.”

    “….”

“Besides you guys are slaves too. Oh no no no. After experiencing the motivation to work by others wouldn’t you be able to gain insight into life?”

“That’s ridiculous. Do you think our children would like something like that?”

“Then do you think they would hate it? Are they so sure that they are such good parents? They must have many wives and children because they are so busy enjoying themselves?”

    “….”

What Azadin said hit them right where they hurt the most. It was like having a branch stuck in their nose and then being hit with a big mallet.

“Well then let’s give these people a chance to experience what kind of excitement it can be to be motivated to work by others. There’s an old saying that says that when you’re young you have to suffer…”

    “Ugh! We’re not that young!”

“But if I think about it again isn’t this moment when I think I’m old the youngest I’ve ever been in the rest of my life? And they say there’s no end to learning. Even if you spend your whole life learning and realizing things life is not enough.”

    “….”

The farm owners despaired at Azadin’s determined and nagging words. This bastard really intended to drag them into slavery.

They had never felt a twinge of conscience while hunting and enslaving countless people and working them without proper wages but they were even more terrified at the thought of ending up in that situation.

    “Take me.”

    “All right.”

    “I will serve you.”

The masked messenger clan’s servants captured the farm owners under Azadin’s orders.

    “Oh no! You guys!”

“What are you guys doing!? Stop them!”

“I always gave you so much money! You useless bastards!”

“If we don’t have enough soldiers call in the farm soldiers!”

“If you save us now no if you save me I’ll give you my weight in gold! Seriously! Aaaah!”

The adventurers just watched the scene like dumb mutes.

Even when Azadin was active alone he was no match for him. And then the undead forces and the herald clan showed up. It was useless to fight against such a large force.

‘This kid. Didn’t you already have troops lying in ambush nearby?’

‘The reason you fought alone was to break our spirit….’

‘And to warn the heirs of the farm owner. If I had just quietly sneaked in kidnapped the farm owner and asked the heirs to make a deal would they have listened?’

The adventurers realized that Azadin had deliberately started a fight with them to show his power and they kept quiet.

    “Eww! You little brats!”

“This is too much! We were not born to be slaves!”

“Now you’re being dragged off as a slave! You’re going to die! You’re going to die of a heart attack!”

The farm owners unable to believe the fate that had befallen them tried to resist but the servants of the Heralds put gags on their mouths and silenced them.

The owners of the Bel Hoda sugarcane plantation now had to take a bold step forward into the new life that lay ahead of them.

    *********

“When I filed the petition I never thought… things would turn out like this.”

Randa Vanema sat in her union office and sighed.

The union office unlike the clubhouse was a proper stone building.

If the clubhouse was a private building built by the ranch owners to compete with each other for pleasure the union office was an official building for business.

“But who would have thought I would become the union leader?”

Randa Vanema was still in shock. Just two days ago her entire business was on the verge of collapse. She felt like she was suffering from a cycle she couldn’t escape no matter what she did.

    however….

The stranger solved the case with great ease and made her the president of the Bel Hoda sugar industry union. The position of president of the Bel Hoda sugar industry union originally held by the Salko plantation owner now belonged to Landa.

“Congratulations on your rise to the position of union leader.”

Azadin congratulated Landa Banema by chewing on a piece of sugarcane.

“Wow this is really sweet. Unlike the sugarcane that floats on the water this is really fresh and there aren’t any bug-eaten parts.”

“You ate sugarcane that floated down the water? Only beggars eat that.”

    “….”

“No I mean in Bel Hoda.”

“In other words even beggars in Bel Hoda know the taste of sugarcane. Isn’t that great? Hmm. Anyway enough about the sugarcane. How was the petition? Were you satisfied?”

“Rather than being satisfied… is this okay?”

Azadin kidnapped Bel Hoda’s farm owners by force.

Of course if you tell Azadin himself that he was kidnapped he’ll get all worked up and start making all sorts of excuses like “job placement” or “resocialization process” to deny the kidnapping.

“I guess I should say that I’m satisfied with this petition. I didn’t want this ending but if I had to choose between the ending where I’m destroyed and this ending… Of course I’d rather have this ending. I can’t ignore your hard work.”

“Hmm. It sounds like you’re not very satisfied. If you were to rate your satisfaction on a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rate it?”

“I recognize your hard work and skills. I give you an 11 out of 10.”

    “Haha. Really?”

Azadin was pleased with the generous score.

“But if you’re going to give it an 11 out of 10 it would be okay to give it 110000 points.”

    “I wasn’t that satisfied.”

Randa Vanema definitely drew the line.
