Night of the Soulless Heathens – 168

#168. The Rampage of the Faction 5
The square was still filled with angry and sorrowful people. They had fled from Coral Sahar where they had lost their homes to a sudden typhoon and had been attacked by humans who had turned into monsters without even knowing what was going on. They were so angry and sorrowful that they were on the verge of going crazy.
In front of these people you have to be careful with every word you say and every action you take.
“What on earth is going on? Why do people turn into monsters….”
“They killed my family! What happened?”
“People say that only those who ate the Cheonggeondang elixir turned into monsters. Is that true?”
“No the Taoist priest isn’t the kind of person to do that!”
“That woman! The strange woman and the clown are us….”
“Yeah clowns!”
People were thinking of Arael and her group who were performing acrobatics while disguised as wandering merchants.
Beside them people who were either Cheonggeun Party members or just ordinary people tried to turn the people’s arrows towards Arael’s group.
“First of all everyone calm down. How did you guys come to your senses?”
Azadin pointed to those who had regained consciousness after being among his followers.
“that….”
“The Taoist priest brought us to our senses.”
“Isn’t that right? The Taoist priest of the Cheonggeondang used his secret arts to save you from your rampage. If it weren’t for the power of the Cheonggeondang this situation would have been a disaster.”
When Azadin openly took the side of the Qing Dynasty the Qing Dynasty people felt secretly relieved.
However since the Cheonggeun Party had been committing many evil acts other people who distrusted them asked about it.
“But why did this happen in the first place?”
“The people who took the Qingdao elixir mostly turned into monsters. Are you really saying that Qingdao is not responsible?”
Then the members of the Cheonggeun Party immediately placed all the blame on the clowns that is the Arael tribe that had approached the refugee camp disguised as vendors.
“I told you those clowns were poisoned! That’s for sure.”
“No! I said there was poison in the Cheonggeundang elixir!”
People were anxious and came up with all sorts of conspiracies.
“Everyone calm down!”
As he spoke Azadin called out to the Emperor’s voice.

The voice of the artificial spirit Emperor attached to the Emperor’s messenger amplified Azadin’s voice causing a strong voice that did not sound like it was being spoken by one person to spread out in all directions.
“ah.”
“….”
Everyone in the room turned their attention to Azadin.
“As the blood of the Yaegas gods fades the light of the royal flower weakens and the momentum of Jupiter grows stronger the blood of the old gods who have sunk into Netherstrom boils.”
Azadin gave strength to his stomach and spoke his prophecy about the Age of Jupiter in a clear and loud voice.
“This is the Age of Jupiter. This terrible event… the storm of Koral Sahar… it was all caused by the power of the Nether.”
There is no lie in this statement. Although the Qing Dynasty has spread the power of the Nether as a leap of faith it is certain that all accidents are caused by the power of the Nether.
“Fortunately a powerful new king now sits on the throne of Coral Sahar so for now those of you from Coral Sahar should return there. Return and prepare for the coming Age of Jupiter.”
Azadin said so and called the Taoist monk of the Qing Dynasty.
“yes?”
“Pick someone you can trust and have them escort some of the refugees to Coral Sahar.”
When those who have taken the Cheonggeondang elixir gather in one place it becomes an act similar to the followers of the messenger gathering and performing a ritual.
In other words it was necessary to disperse the members of the Cheonggeun Party to prevent this from happening again in the future.
“Oh I understand.”
The Qingjiandang Taoist monk was now in no position to dare to interfere with Azadin’s instructions.
“But if we’re going to move that many people we’ll need food and supplies.”
“Please use the supplies that the Cheonggeun Party has collected so far.”
“Yes? But that alone isn’t enough…”
Azadin clicked his tongue and took out the money.
Azadin had amassed quite a fortune. However even though it was a huge amount for an individual to spend it was not enough to feed the many refugees.
“Let’s use this to help manage people.”
“Oh thank you.”
“And we are heading to Btuma so could you write us a letter of recommendation or something so that we can get their cooperation when we meet the Cheonggeun Party people?”
“A letter of recommendation? Of course. No not to that extent but this…”
The Qingjiandang Taoist monk handed Azadin an ornate club as long as his forearm.
“What is this?”
“This is the Cheonggeun Party’s club. It originally symbolized my status… I’ll write a letter of recommendation for you so please take this too.”
“….”
Azadin was speechless when the Qingjiandang Taoist priest offered to give him a club which was like his identification card.
‘Isn’t this kid just going to throw it away and run away? Passing it on to me? Isn’t he a mid-level executive of a cult called the Cheonggeondang? Why is he passing it on to me as if he’s doing me a favor when he’s in a position where nothing comes of it and it’s full of hardship?’
I had that doubt but… thinking about going to Btuma it was better to accept it.
“If I take this what will you do?”
Perhaps because he was in a bad mood Azadin’s voice naturally became thorny.
“I feel inadequate and would like to transfer my position as a Taoist priest to you.”
Even though he must have known that Azadin was feeling uncomfortable the Taoist jokingly passed the buck to Azadin.
“You can’t become a Taoist just by receiving this club without anything. Isn’t that a position that your leader appoints you to? Can you hand it over so easily?”

“God has told us to willingly relinquish our position when we feel inadequate. I will be there to assist you in areas where you are not familiar with the laws or system of the Qing Dynasty.”
That doesn’t mean that the Taoist priest will just take the money and run away.
Azadin looked back at his companions.
“Well. Wouldn’t that be okay?”
Shati answered dryly.
‘Actually since I joined the Cheonggeun Party on purpose I welcome the title of Taoist priest. However I didn’t know it would be this easy.’
The moment Azadin saw the Qing Dynasty he disguised himself as a layman and joined the organization intending to study it and use it if possible. But then suddenly he became a high-ranking official.
“So what’s your name?”
“Oh my name is Jiswa. You are…..”
“Didn’t I introduce you once?”
“You said Adan. Isn’t that a pseudonym?”
“Why do you think so?”
“They are armed and move around in groups so I feel like they have extraordinary skills and spirit. I guess it’s just my guess but didn’t they try to leave us alone when they first approached us?”
The Cheonggeondang Taoist Jiswa had actually suspected Azadin and his party when they first arrived. They were a group of people who were armed and didn’t seem like merchants. Could they be the Cell Sword Guild or robbers? That’s why he had them investigate another suspicious group the Arael group.
“You still hand me the position of Taoist priest after knowing that? Yes. My real name is Azadin.”
“You are a messenger clan. I felt that you were something out of the ordinary.”
“How did you know right away that we were the Herald Clan?”
“If you’re Azadin isn’t that the name of the Herald Clan? When the Herald Clan was shipwrecked in Hybris the place they landed was Btuma. There’s still a lot of knowledge about the Herald Clan or rather the Aragasa around Btuma. If you want to hide your identity it would be best to continue using the alias Adan in Btuma.”
“But can I as the Emperor’s messenger also serve as a Taoist priest of the Qing Dynasty?”
Azadin asked about that.
This Qing Dynasty Taoist priest Jiswa also knew that Azadin as the emperor’s messenger would not be swayed by Qing Dynasty’s ideology. However…
“Aren’t these dizzying times? I don’t think it will matter.”
At first Jiswa was suspicious of Azadin but his attitude completely changed after being saved by Azadin in this incident. It seemed like he was really impressed by Azadin and was eager to hand over his position to him.
If this were the position of a count or a throne it would be an excellent example of abdication but since he is not the leader of a cult but a mid-level executive it feels like Azadin is being forced to drink a poisoned chalice.
‘I had planned to infiltrate Cheonggeundang to investigate but now that they’ve laid out the groundwork for me like this I don’t feel so good.’
Zibek was also in a bad mood.
Just a few months ago Zibek who had been an exemplary paladin was now part of a party that included a herald clan an orc necromancer and now a cult blood mage.
Of course it was inevitable that things would turn out this way because of the fault of Lord Jecht and I have no doubts about Azadin’s character but someone who doesn’t know Azadin’s character would have no choice but to criticize Xibek for being corrupt.
“Actually I don’t know anything about the teachings of Cheonggeondang. Can I really become a Taoist priest?”
“I know the teachings. And… if the rampage of the clan was really due to structural problems as she said then the teachings and organization of the Cheonggeondang are incompatible. In terms of putting the teachings into practice you are already great because you are worried about the refugees and are giving away your personal wealth.”
As is the case with most pseudo-religions the teachings of Cheonggeundang were filled with only good words.
Jiswah’s argument was that Azadin could become a Taoist priest because he could actually practice the teachings that were full of good sounds.
‘This kid. He’s secretly very perceptive. I have to be careful.’
Azadin knew that Jiswah had noticed his purpose.
No matter what Azadin needs a Cheonggeun Party organization.
So despite such unreasonable demands we know that Azadin will eventually accept the position of Taoist priest.
‘What are you aiming for? Do I have to check it out myself?’
Azadin accepted Jiswah’s offer even though he was suspicious of him.
“Then please tell me the way to Btuma Jiswa.”
“Yes Master Azadin.”
“Have you already decided on a title? Just call me Azadin. Once you pass Btuma call me Adan.”
*********
Azadin took over the position of Taoist priest from the Qing Dynasty Taoist priest Jiswa and obtained guidance for the area around Btuma.
Not only that Jiswa had decided to personally guide Azadin and some of the Cheonggeun Party members and refugees followed him.
“We also want to go to Btuma.”
“I want to find a job in Bhutto.”
“It seems that diseases are spreading here because there is a lack of food jobs and the air is bad.”
As those who wanted to join Btuma began to gather Jiswa looked at Azadin in embarrassment.
Now the leader of Jiswah was Azadin. If they wanted to go the decision was Azadin’s.
“Let’s go together.”
Azadin allowed them to accompany him.
Azadin’s party had outstanding military power so this kind of road would not pose much of a threat but for the refugees the beasts monsters and bandits they encountered along the way were bound to be a threat.
“Then shall we go to Btuma? Just wait. If I’m a Taoist I can meet that man called God right?”
“Yes that’s right.”
“I’m looking forward to it.”
If we can convince those leading the organization called the Qing Dynasty in Btuma where the Naga Empire’s invasion is scheduled it will certainly be of great help.
‘Even if that’s not the case we have to stop them from becoming a subordinate and going wild. It’ll be hard just dealing with the Nagas’ attacks and if the Cheonggeun Party goes wild that’ll be even harder. I hope the Lord is someone who can communicate with others.’
Azadin set out expecting to meet the leader of the Cheonggeun Party Cheonju.
