Night of the Soulless Heathens – 164

“And what the hell is innocent! Who threatened you to rely on the power of the Nether with a knife? Didn’t they just take the Nether’s medicine and drink it because they didn’t want to die?”
Seraph also had no sympathy at all for people’s suffering.
“Do you know how painful a disease rabies is? Those are the people who wanted to live because of it. What if they depended on the power of the Nether? Aren’t the nobles and priests also studying Nether magic?! They only borrowed the power of the Nether because the power of the Yaegasu gods wasn’t helping them! And yet they made them go berserk! How could they do that! You are truly the monsters!!”
The Taoist priest of the Qing Dynasty focused his mind in anger. His followers who were originally members of the Qing Dynasty began to move.
“Kill them!”
The Taoist master controlled his followers and gave orders to kill but the men and women of the messenger clan laughed at him.
“This kid is venting his anger in strange ways?”
“Dimia. You were beaten so badly by Azadin right? Has your condition improved somewhat?”
“okay.”
“Then let’s see your skills.”
Flower Dimia clicked her tongue and unsheathed the sword she was wearing on her waist. It was a blue-bladed sword with Azure Steel in it. When she slinged it from her bow and fired a blue trail was drawn in the air and the sword danced like a living snake.
-Pfft!
The Oak Tree Demon’s followers tried to block the flying swords from the branches. However the dragon moved as if it were alive and breathing finding an opening to cut off the demon’s neck. It sprayed blue sword light and killed the followers one by one.
“Kwaaak!”
“Kaaaak!”
As the neck and torso were cut off the oak demon’s followers were destroyed writhing and spitting out brain matter.
Watching them easily take down the followers by firing their bows and arrows the Taoist could tell that their strength was enormous.
“These devils!”
The Cheonggeondang Taoist screamed as he watched his men being helplessly slaughtered and tried to use magic but a sword too large to be a dagger pierced his arm.
“Ugh!”
“Oh my. Don’t move so recklessly. There’s still a lot I want to hear from you.”
The Seraph of the Bird suddenly approached him and aimed a sword at his neck.
“Don’t make me laugh! It seems like I’m going to submit to you guys…”
Branches shoot up from under the Taoist’s feet and attack Seraph. But at that moment a black sword light swung around. The Taoist’s legs were cleanly cut off along with the branches.
“Oh no… I think I inflicted a fatal wound. Surely one of Nether’s followers wouldn’t die just because his leg was cut off?”

“Ugh!”
Indeed the Taoist placed a tree branch on the bleeding area to stop the wound. However it was already clear that he was no match for the messenger clan.
“Is it starting already?”
At that time Arael appeared at the headquarters of the Cheonggeun Party accompanied by Indim. She frowned after finishing her meeting with Azadin.
“Lord Arael.”
“You laid your hands on the Cheonggeun Party?”
“Yes. I’m sorry Arael. Given Azadin’s personality I can’t possibly grant your request to take medicine.”
When Dimia’s younger sister Zenith said that Arael glared at her.
“It seems like you know quite a bit about my brother. That’s good.”
Arael reached out to the fallen Taoist priest. At that moment the hem of the Taoist priest’s clothes came undone and a key burst out from within him sucking it into Arael’s hand.
“Then what do we do with this guy?”
Seraph aimed his sword at the Taoist’s neck and asked Arael.
“Give him some medicine.”
Arael said this and threw the vial that she had given to Azadin but had been rejected by Seraph. Seraph twisted open the mouth of the Cheonggeondang Taoist with his blade and poured the vial in.
“Ugh?!”
Although the Taoist tried to resist the drug flowed mercilessly into his mouth.
“Eat it and regret it later you idiot.”
Seraph drugged the Cheonggeondang Taoist priest and threw him away laughing at him.
*********
The sky tore open and lightning struck the earth.
“Oh my god. It’s the end of the world. There’s no stopping it.”
Azadin felt despair as he watched the camp being struck by lightning one after another.
Those who took the elixir of the Qing Dynasty were turning into his followers and every time they did lightning struck from the sky.
That is even at this very moment as lightning strikes the vassals are appearing among the refugees.
As the retinue emerged among the refugees it became impossible to block their advance using walls or moats.
“It won’t work Captain!”
Scott was also getting tired of those numbers.
At first the Nether clansmen were helpless against Scott’s magic. However as information was shared among the clansmen they gradually began to respond to Scott’s magic.
First they eliminate the undead that Scott created and then everyone rushes at Scott focusing on him.
“There’s no end to it Captain!”
“Yes! It’s time for selection and concentration! Let’s go to the Cheonggeun Party headquarters!”
Azadin decided to stop dealing with the cultists here. It was more reasonable to find out the cause and deal with it than to kill the cultists and save people here.
But it is ignoring the people who are dying and there is nothing we can do about it for now.
No matter how hard Azadin and Xebec Scott try the retinue keeps appearing and people keep dying so if they stall for time here it will end when everyone who took the elixir dies.
Azadin took the shortest route to the camp where the Qing Dynasty Taoist priest was. He only dealt with the followers who got in his way.
Other followers who are not affected by the root will harm people but Azadin cannot do anything about it.
‘It’s stupid to worry about a problem that has no answer! This is the best we can do for now!’

Azadin cut down the followers blocking his way with his Azure Steel longsword and headed towards Baron Adyrov’s castle.
*********
In front of the gate of Baron Adirov’s castle. The Taoist monk Cheonggeondang had already collapsed in his own blood and in the distance Arael the four members of Hwajopungwol and Zenith were heading towards the Baron’s castle.
The distance is too far.
Azadin braced his lower abdomen and called out to Arael as loudly as he could.
“Arael!”
Then the corpses of the people lying around began to move.
“Ugh?!”
“Be careful.”
Although Zibek warned Azadin looked at it calmly.
At that moment Arael’s voice and the artificial spirit that Arael was controlling appeared there.
[Ah. Azadin. My throat is about to burst. Let’s talk like this. But you still can’t use proper magic right?]
“What did you do?! Arael?”
[I got the key to the Emperor’s treasure vault that the Cheonggeundang guys had. There are two keys. With this the Emperor’s mint will be mine.]
“You… can’t you feel anything? So many people died because of what you did!”
[It’s because the Cheonggeun Party foolishly used the power of the Nether. Why is that my fault?]
“If you hadn’t flooded Coral Sahar in the first place they wouldn’t have come here to die! It’s because you joined hands with the Nagas and killed people in Coral Sahar that the trouble has spread here too!”
[That is a curious interpretation. Yes. It was I who did the work at Coral Sahar. But if I did not act there would be no stopping more sacrifices in the Age of Jupiter! I did my best to minimize the sacrifices.]
“That’s ridiculous. If the best course of action you could take to minimize sacrifice is like that then what on earth were you trying to do if you were trying to maximize sacrifice?”
[Yeah. You could have handled it with fewer sacrifices.]
“what?”
[So Azadin come to me. I need you to save the people. I have no qualms about using them as a scapegoat so you stay by my side and protect them.]
“….”
Azadin was speechless. He had never thought that Arael would try to persuade him at this very moment. And under the pretext of minimizing human sacrifice?
‘This is ridiculous. You’re the one who killed him but you’re asking me to stop you? Right now?’
Azadin was astonished at how Arael’s persuasion was so self-centered.
[Of course it would be impossible right now.]
At that moment Arael’s voice suddenly exploded.
“Ugh!”
“colon!”
“Azadin!”
Scott and Zibek pointed to the Qingjiandang Taoist monk who had fallen to the ground. The moment he got up lightning struck everywhere and his followers began to rush in.
“Tch!”
Azadin drew his sword to strike the Qingjiandang Taoist monk gathered all his strength in his body and prepared to cut him down in one stroke.
But then the Taoist monk Cheonggeondang raised his hand.
“Hey wait a minute! Calm down!”
“huh?”
“I’m conscious! I’m okay!”
“….”
Surprisingly the Taoist monk Cheonggeondang was conscious. But that’s not all.
“First I will control my followers.”
As the Cheonggeondang Taoist concentrated his mind the movements of the retinue flocking to the front yard of the Baron’s castle began to show some kind of reaction.
Organized movement and order are seen in those who were once wild beasts of violence. It was the Taoist master controlling his followers with his mind.
And he formed a small branch a sharp-pointed thing like a bolt from a crossbow and enough to cut through unarmored flesh.
The branches flew like the wind and struck the thick bark of the servants becoming one with them like mistletoe growing on a large tree.
Then something amazing happened. The followers came to their senses.
“Uh. Master Do?”
“Eek what is this? Is this my body?”
The screams of those who had regained their humanity were heard.
They were shocked and astonished at their own transformation as if they had forgotten the horrific and brutal violence they had just committed.
“Hey everyone! Have you seen the little boy with me? He’s the short-haired boy carrying this rag doll…”
The man who spoke like that had a bloody rag doll hanging on his branch swinging miserably. Perhaps the child he was looking for was no longer of this world.
Azadin sheathed his sword at the sight and glared at the Qingjiandang Taoist. The man had taken care of it but if Iza hadn’t used the elixir this wouldn’t have happened at all.
Of course the suffering from various endemic diseases had made people dependent on medicine so they could not be held entirely responsible but the image of the blood-soaked rag doll stuck in Azadin’s mind.
‘If I had eyes I would have said it was stuck to the retina.’
Azadin questioned the Taoist priest.
“Are you awake? Can you explain what happened?”
“I don’t know either.”
“I thought so. What I want is for you to try to explain yourself as best as you can from your perspective. I’ll take it in stride anyway. Do you know how many people killed their own families on the way here and how many people I had to kill because of it?”
There was anger in Azadin’s voice.
