    #157. The Usurper 3

“You didn’t tell Zion Etar about what happened during the Wendigo era did you?”

    “….”

“If you and Midiam had reported that Zion Etar would not have been so lukewarm. Isn’t it true that you are saying that you won’t follow me now that it is your own will? Originally you would have followed Midiam no matter what you did. After following Midiam and chasing me wasn’t it your role to continue persuading Midiam?”

    “You knew that.”

Ismail was originally a subordinate of Zion Etar. He acted as a servant of Midiam but at the same time he was always in charge of reporting Midiam’s actions to his superiors.

Although Ismail should have acted in accordance with the will of the Ethar clan at all times he kept the fact that Azadin had performed a miracle a secret. Furthermore he now deliberately warned Azadin by revealing the suspicion and suspicion of the Ethar clan regarding Azadin without reservation.

“Don’t get me wrong. I really hate you. Physiologically I’m not suited for someone like you.”

    Ismail declared in Azadin’s presence.

“But Medium follows you. I’ll do my best to make sure no harm comes to her.”

If you follow Azadin woe to Midiam. That’s what Ismail was saying.

“Okay. I understand. Then Medium. Let’s say goodbye here.”

Azadin decided not to allow Midiam and Ismail to accompany him.

“As a messenger I should have taught the servants and given them experience and guidance but looking back I realize I didn’t teach you much. I feel sorry for being an inadequate messenger.”

“Oh no. You were the best teacher Azadin.”

“Hey. No matter how you look at it that’s not right.”

    Azadin smiled.

“If you wish Midiam. Do your best in Etar so that the name of Aragasa will not be sullied by the blood of the helpless people.”

The training process of the Aragasas is to make them hate the weak and the powerless. Every time a person falls behind in the training process all of their peers suffer causing them to hate the person who falls behind and to personally punish the weak.

How cruel will the Aragats who are merciless to the weak even though they are their own people be to the Hybris who persecuted them?

    Azadin was worried about that.

“Why are you so worried about them? Because you are angel believers?”

When Ismail asked Azadin shook his head.

    “When I was young… I was afraid.”

    “yes?”

“I couldn’t stand the fear that there was no one in this world who understood me. All I had to do was show a little kindness… My thoughts were considered weak and cowardly among the Aragasa. Of course I knew that since I had failed in the training process the talk of being kind to the weak was unconvincing because it was asking me to be kind to them.”

As a dropout during Aragasa’s training Azadin would have been ostracized and bullied by everyone.

It was so extreme that the boy Azadin even doubted whether they were really human beings of the same blood.

“It was then that I encountered the faith of the Knights of Salvation. The story of the three archangels dedicating themselves to humanity and the knights following their teachings to protect the weak was salvation in itself to me.”

“If I believe in them I can be saved?”

“No. Rather it is a confirmation of a sense of identity. The fact that everyone is moved by good and beautiful stories. The fact that they too long for good and beautiful things just like me and this becomes a faith and a huge religious group.”

Azadin said so and looked back at Midiam.

    “So I trust you Medium.”

Midiam sympathized with Azadin’s aesthetics which believed that persecuting the helpless people of Hybris was an ugly thing.

That was a very precious bond for Azadin.

    “Yes. Azadin. Oh right.”

Midiam raised his hand and pointed to the stables next to the wall.

“I have prepared the horse and the goat luggage. I have them prepared in a stable that is not flooded.”

The luggage that had been left with Sion Etar was retrieved by Midiam. Even if it was Azadin it was a very important luggage for Jibek because he had armor.

“You brought it for me on purpose? Thanks.”

“I also packed plenty of food. Plus this too…”

Medium took a sword from the box next to him.

    “This is…..”

Azadin smiled bitterly at the sight. It was the Azure Steel sword that Lord Aldoff had.

“Elder Kazas asked me to tell you that it was a gift.”

    “Master?”

    “yes.”

    “It’s difficult.”

Azadin was in a difficult position.

The Azure Steel longsword was a priceless treasure. However its original owner was Sir Aldoff. Although his arm was cut off he was the nephew of Ancetus IV so he was definitely not an easy target.

If you carry the sword of such a person you may be caught up in discord.

And what if Lord Aldov were alive?

The relationship between Azadin and Sir Aldoff wasn’t that bad but wouldn’t he be upset if Azadin had his sword?

‘No I guess I can just tell someone who knows about it later that I’ll return it and borrow it in the meantime.’

Anyway if Azadin refuses the sword here it will only show that he is dissatisfied with Kazas and Aldis.

“Yeah yeah. Tell him I said thank you. Well that’s goodbye. If our paths lead us let’s meet again.”

Azadin said goodbye to Midiam and Ismail.

    *********

As we emerged onto the unflooded higher ground through the ramparts we had a full view of the city of Coral Sahar.

The rain had stopped and the water was receding rapidly. A pillar of dawn light poured down from the sky forcibly draining the water that had flooded the city.

The sea serpent nagas were retreating from the Coral Sahar royal palace with their momentum broken when a small speedboat rushed towards them.

    “Shoot!”

On board the speedboat were the archers of the herald clan. They shot arrows at the Nagas.

Originally it was difficult to hit the Nagas properly with arrows shot from a boat due to the swaying currents. However the Jeonryeong clan living up to their reputation as archers inflicted fatal wounds on the Nagas every time they shot so the Nagas could not withstand it.

Some of the Nagas tried to dive into the water to avoid the arrows and climb onto the ship’s deck but soldiers armed with long hooked sickles had already cut down the Nagas as they climbed onto the deck incapacitating them.

The Nagas who had been invading the Coral Sahar royal palace with terrifying momentum were being swept away in vain.

“At least the people of Coral Sahar will cheer.”

Jibek was amazed as he watched the speedboat clearing the waters with frightening momentum.

As soon as Aldis Jedah took the throne he dealt with the helpless actions of Ancetus IV as if it were a miracle. To the people of Coral Sahar who were just waiting for their day to die it must have seemed like a miracle.

“They probably put in all the copies of the New King’s Book that the Senate had.”

    “yes?”

“Zion Etar and Elder Kazas gathered copies of the New King’s Book and were waiting here. When the Arael tribe approached the throne and performed sorcery to extract white magic from the throne the copies of the New King’s Book nearby naturally accumulated a huge amount of white magic.”

That was also why when Azadin accepted the power of the copy of the New King’s Book he could feel that the power had become even stronger than usual.

When white magic is released from the throne nearby copies of the Book of the New King will be affected and gain great power.

The Senate gives all copies of the New King’s Book that they have collected to Aldis the person fit for the throne and the moment she sits on the throne the light of the King’s Flower activates displaying miraculous powers.

The residents of Coral Sahar cannot help but be captivated by the dramatic production.

“I can’t give the Senate a copy of the New King’s Book. I have to control everything.”

Azadin intended to keep everything for himself including the copy of the New King’s Book that he had obtained this time.

“But before that Scott. Could you examine this bracelet closely?”

Azadin handed over the bracelet containing the New King’s Book he had received from Aldis.

“It’s not something you can do while walking around Captain. Well it doesn’t look like there’s any tracking magic or anything.”

    “okay?”

Azadin felt a little relieved to hear that there was nothing like that on the bracelet.

Is it because Aldis suddenly usurped the throne and became empress?

He started to have some suspicions about her but luckily it wasn’t as bad as he thought.

    But then it happened.

    [Azadin….]

A voice calling Azadin was heard from the water’s edge.

A large crab crawled out of the water. Its belly had large eyes and a mouth.

“Arael? How are you feeling? How is it to have your cooked meal taken away?”

    Azadin grumbled at Arael’s voice.

‘Ah this is not the time to be whining like this.’

Azadin wanted to hear the full story from Arael. However Arael was someone who had deeply hurt Azadin so he could not bear the opportunity to taunt her.

‘Well if not now then when else would you laugh at Arael?’

Ignoring Azadin’s taunts Arael’s voice answered.

[You must be suspicious of Aldis’s actions since you came out of the castle so quickly. Let’s head to the Kingdom of Btuma. Let’s talk about the future there. Of course don’t bring the other Aragasa.]

The Aragasas like the Corasar merchants’ association had established many local merchant associations in each country and were using them as information organizations.

“Okay where should I go Btuma?”

[It’s hard to tell you the exact location right now. I’ll keep in touch so let’s meet then. Okay!]

Arael’s voice exploded with a bang and the large mud crab shattered into pieces.

    “Huh. Doesn’t it smell delicious?”

Scott sniffed at the crab’s meat as it was being crushed releasing a warm rancid scent and said

“Don’t pick it up and eat it.”

    Azadin warned Scott.

    *********

Originally Coral Sahar was trading with Btuma by ship so there were regular ships and trading ships coming and going.

However with all regular shipping routes cut off by the Nagas’ attacks Azadin had no choice but to travel by land. While waiting for the contact lines to be restored it was obvious that new Watchers sent by Sion Etar would linger.

As Azadin moved along the coast he began absorbing copies of the Book of the New Kings whenever he had time to rest. By absorbing the white magic power surging from the copies of the Book of the New Kings into his body he further strengthened the power of the Kajas Book.

At lunchtime Azadin and his party set up a pot on the sandy beach and used a copy of the New King’s Book to strengthen their magic power while Shati prepared the food.

“No for God’s sake! Why do I have to cook for that fucking orc?”

“Because dry matter is expensive. And I’m sorry but Lord Jibek doesn’t know what taste is.”

When I tried to cook for him I found out that Sir Jibek was a terrible cook. However he was also an amazing fisherman and a great fish-cleaner.

However it was impossible to process the fish prepared in this way beyond baking it with salt. If you just boiled it in soup or something the dish would be incredibly ruined.

Shati suspected that Jibek was sabotaging her because she didn’t want to cook.

“I will bring you some water.”

Jibek also volunteered to help out even though no one asked him to perhaps because he felt bad about his cooking being so disastrous.
