    #148. Quartz Throne 2

Even when he launched a surprise attack on Azadin Aldof was confident in his own abilities and was certain of victory.

But now he is afraid. Fear is paralyzing him so he finds excuses not to move.

Fear pushes him towards death even though remaining still and cowering is the path to death.

It’s a behavior that lacks rationality but it’s instinct.

Sir Aldoff was cowering in despair under the pretext of chivalry.

    “Oh it’s annoying.”

Azadin vaguely noticed the state Lord Aldoff was in and took the Azure Steel sword from his hand.

    “What should I do? Nephthys?”

    “Kill him.”

“Hmm. It’s a shame to kill you because your body is so scary but there’s nothing I can do.”

Kahsan pulled back his bow with regret. But then.

    “What are you guys?!”

    “this….”

The knights and soldiers came towards the palace and discovered this situation.

    “this!”

There were too many people. If there were fewer people I would have killed them all and continued on but the enemy was a platoon of knights so I couldn’t kill them all at once.

First of all in order to easily subdue Azadin you need to use Black River Warfare but with this many troops it will be difficult to concentrate Black River Warfare on Azadin.

    “Withdraw!”

Zion gave up on eliminating Azadin and retreated.

    “You guys!”

    “Hey! Stand up!”

    “Drop your weapons!”

They rushed at Nephthys and Zion Kahsan but arrows flew at them.

    “Tch!”

Azadin jumped in and deflected the arrows but he could not protect them all. As some soldiers fell to the arrows the soldiers hesitated to pursue and in the gap Zion’s men quickly escaped.

    “Ugh.”

    “Hey! You messenger bastard!”

The knights quarreled with Azadin even though he had saved the soldiers by deflecting the arrows. Then Sir Aldof arose.

“Stop! Don’t you know I was trying to save you?!”

    “Yes? Sir Aldov. But….”

“Stop it! Interest is not the enemy!”

Aldov extended his hand in defense of Azadin.

    “Um. Okay. Handshake.”

Sir Aldoff shook his head as Azadin shook his hand.

“Oh right. You mean the Cheonggang Sword?”

Azadin returned the Azure Steel sword to Lord Aldoff.

“The messenger clan. What is your name?”

    “Emperor’s Herald 108th Herald Azadin.”

“I won’t forget what you helped me with today. But I want you to keep what you learned today a secret.”

“What is it? Nephthys? Or Kahsan?”

    “….”

“In this case both? Don’t worry. I’m on the heavy side.”

“Father please. Please keep it a secret…”

Aldov shuddered as he thought of Kahsan.

    *********

“I don’t know what trick I used but Aldoff has become quiet.”

    Ancestus IV admired Azadin.

“And you also took care of the problem of poisoning food?”

    “I couldn’t process it.”

“No. I didn’t say anything but you did more than I expected. You even fought the messenger clan? Is that true?”

    “Rather than a fight…”

Azadin took out the blacksmith’s swords and smiled bitterly.

    “It’s Heukgangjeon.”

    “Do you know about Heukgangjeon?”

“Isn’t that an arrow made of black steel that can accumulate powerful magic? It’s sharp and heavy on its own but it also contains tremendous curses and magical power. I’ve heard stories about it but this is my first time seeing it in person. It looks more like an iron bar than an arrow.”

“Yes. The opponent shot this without holding back. I got injured as a result. If I don’t treat my wound I might be dead next time we meet.”

Ancestus IV smiled as Azadin subtly revealed his sacrifice and devotion.

“That’s interesting. The messenger clan isn’t just one.”

“Yes. Isn’t that the case everywhere?”

“If you’re going to exchange Heukgangjeon then it’s not just acting. You really are determined to kill each other. Or is it because your reputation is so high that you think you can’t kill me with Heukgangjeon?”

    Ancestor IV’s words had bones.

Are you still pretending to be in conflict and approaching me? That is what I am asking.

“This is the 108th rank. It is the lowest rank.”

Azadin answered with a shrug. It is impossible for a messenger of about 108 to survive against messengers of higher rank and that too using Black Steel.

So we are not setting up a fight that is what Azadin was saying.

Ancestor IV laughed off Azadin’s joke and took on a serious expression.

“There is an underground passage that can access the throne of Coral Sahar.”

“Are you talking about the underground passage?”

“It is a secret passage in the castle and also a way to access the foundation where the throne is rooted in the ground. However it is currently flooded due to heavy rain.”

    “ah.”

“I might have done something there before this rain came. But I actually didn’t think about it before. The light of the royal flower was definitely fading. I just thought it was because I wasn’t fit to be king.”

    “….”

“The throne of Yaegasu is truly a curse. Only when a rightful king sits on it can the light of the King’s Flower protect the world. If the light of the King’s Flower weakens won’t it be like saying that you are unworthy? That is truly terrifying and pathetic and it makes me hate myself.”

“Still you must protect it. The King of Yaegasu is not in a position to be frustrated.”

“Kekekeke. You have no right to be frustrated. That’s right. I never thought I’d hear something like that from the messenger clan.”

Ancestus IV took off one of his necklaces and gave it to Azadin.

    “What is this?”

“It’s a necklace of underwater breathing. It’s a magical tool that accumulates magical power from the life force of the person wearing it. It’s something you a member of the messenger clan will need.”

“Does this allow you to breathe underwater? How long does it last?”

“In my case if I leave it on for about a day I can use it for about a minute the next day.”

    “Only one minute?”

“I’ve been living in the garage for a year so it should last at least 200 minutes.”

    “I see. Why 200 minutes?”

“I left it out when I worked at night.”

    “Oh yes.”

Azadin took the necklace and put it around his neck.

“I’m giving it to you so just take it. The messenger clan will need it.”

Ancestor IV repeated the same words again.

There is no magic for breathing underwater in the grimoire of the Jeonryun clan Hwajopungwol. This is to emphasize that they are aware of that fact.

    “thank you.”

Azadin greeted Ancestor IV and left the room.

    *********

    “colon!”

As he was leaving his castle an unexpected person called Azadin.

Orc Scott McGreen and Naga Shati were waiting for Azadin.

    “What about Lord Jibek?”

    “Sir Jibek is over there.”

Sir Jibek sat there blankly for a while then got up when he saw Azadin.

“Yeah. That’s good. But how did you find me?”

“Finding the captain was easy. The story of the impudent messenger clan in this castle is no joke. Finding them is too easy.”

“How did you come back alive? Did Zion Etar release you?”

As he spoke Azadin held out his injured arm to Shati while receiving the Black Steel Sword from the Herald Clan.

    “No this is really shameless.”

    “Please.”

    “Oh my.”

Shati grumbled as she began to treat Azadin’s wounds. In the meantime Scott began to tell her the story of what had happened.

“That vicious messenger who came on the boat with us came with his men and ambushed us. I was the first to faint…”

“Then it was me. That little bastard Ismail knocked me out by almost breaking my neck.”

From what Shati had to say it seemed that perhaps Midiam and Ismail were unable to resist Zion the elder of the Etar clan.

    “What about Lord Jibek?”

“That’s… shamefully I surrendered. I couldn’t fight because the hostages were taken.”

“No you did well. There was no need to fight and shed blood. So where were you locked up?”

    “Here in the castle prison.”

“Is this the Coral Sahar Royal Palace?”

“Yes. It seems like a lot of the messenger clan members have infiltrated so it’s very organized.”

After all… the headquarters of the Korasaar Traders’ Guild was located right in the royal capital Coral Sahar. Originally many messengers had been coming and going here.

    “How did you escape?”

    “The medium freed us.”

“Oh you didn’t escape on your own?”

    “That’s what happened.”

    Jibek was still embarrassed.

“There’s nothing to be ashamed of. Getting caught or dying in a fight is a daily occurrence.”

Azadin stopped the embarrassed Zibek and turned to Scott. It seemed that he would have to rely on Scott to hear the story properly.

“I cannot turn away from the will of the Etarra clan but they asked us to help their leader.”

“Huh. On the topic of traitors!”

    Shati downplayed Medium’s choice.

    ‘No you can’t do that.’

It is absurd to see Shati who has become a traitor to the Naga clan deny that Midiam or Ismail are traitors. Since when did you start questioning whether someone was a traitor or not just because they were part of Azadin’s party?

“If I had been held captive I would have died. I am so grateful that they released me.”

Scott surprisingly had no lingering feelings.

‘Surprisingly this guy has a strangely persistent personality.’

Azadin was impressed by Scott’s frank and straightforward speech.

“It’s a good thing you came back alive.”

Although it was easy to say that Medium had freed him Azadin could guess the agony Medium must have felt just from those words.

Now that the Etar clans have turned to the Arael tribe Midiam as an Etar clan cannot reject or betray them. Nevertheless he frees them out of consideration for Azadin’s companions.

“Azadin. Wouldn’t your servant Midiam be angry with you? She will be caught soon since she has let us go.”

Jibek was upset because he had burdened a girl like Medium.

It is no wonder that the upright knight is shaken when he is saved by the sacrifice of Medium whom he had always been an enemy of.

“Well she’s the heiress of Ethar so there’s no way the Ethar bloodline would harm her even if you guys were freed. But I have to do something quickly. I have to shake the opponent out of his mind so they don’t start fighting each other over something like that.”

“Okay I understand. I will cooperate actively.”

“Okay. Then I’ll tell you what happened.”

First Azadin shared what he had discovered so far while separated from them.

The Arael clan of the Heralds have weakened the Light of the Kings through some means and have formed an alliance with the Nagas in order to take the throne of Coral Sahar.

When the Nagas completely take Coral Sahar the Heralds will appear and take the throne of Coral Sahar using their power to repel the Nagas.

After that he uses the New King’s Book of the Throne to lift the curse of service placed on the Jeonryung Clan.

Jibek clicked his tongue as he heard the plan.

“That is an incredible story. It is something that a knight of the King’s Church would never have imagined.”

“The problem is that a lot of people believed it was possible and jumped into this gamble. Maybe Arael showed them something.”

“Oh don’t misunderstand. I’m just feeling miserable now because I realize how much of a frog in a well I was.”

    Zibek was angry at himself.

Because of the discipline of the Paladins they reluctantly tolerated the wicked acts of Prince Cozel son of Count Salasma.

But the world has changed so rapidly that we can no longer be bound by the discipline of the King’s Church.

Despite this situation the discipline of the paladin that has been deeply engraved in his soul since childhood still binds Zibek.
