#130. Parallel Lines of Emotions 4
“They probably don’t know where the Emperor’s treasury is. Even if they do it’s not that easy to open. It’s in the old forgotten kingdom of the dwarves.”
“You’ve come to your senses sir.”
“Yes. Congratulations Sir Guillaumewald. Since Prince Adler has lost both arms you are now the rightful heir to the title of Count Lantaric.”
Brand said so but his face wasn’t smiling at all.
I can even feel the deep resentment.
‘That must be true. He has been loyal to his father all his life… but his father…’
Guillaume Bald who knew that Brand had been driven mad by the terrible treatment he received from Count Lantaric could not accept his congratulations at face value. However he wanted to compensate him in some way…
“Don’t make me laugh! What kind of a count is this ugly bastard!”
Adler who was lying on the floor screamed.
“Prince Adler. You are already finished. You were recognized as the heir by the count and your vassals supported you but in this situation who would support you who has lost both arms? And the traces of necromancy in the basement are so clear? This is clear evidence that you could be burned at the stake right now. I’ll say it again. You are finished!”
Brand taunted Adler but Adler was out of his mind perhaps because of the pain.
“How dare you! Don’t make me laugh! I’m a success! You Guillaume Wald and the corpses sleeping in that tomb! I’m not like those pathetic failures! And you guys ruined me! Ugh. I have to reattach my arm! I can still reattach my arm with necromancy! My arm!”
Adler crawled towards his fallen arm but Brand strode over to him and struck Adler’s arm with the axe he was holding.
“This kid!?”
-thud!
Adler’s arm was torn off as Brand swung his axe again. Adler was horrified as he watched his arm being cut off like meat from a butcher’s shop.
“Stop it!”
“Ahahaha. Why should I stop? When I told them to stop the bandits and the agents loyal to Count Lantaric didn’t stop at all!”
Brand holding an axe and spear was laughing with tears in his eyes.
“It didn’t stop at all!”
It was a grotesque sight. Laughing and crying Brand chopped Adler’s arm with an axe. Adler didn’t suffer because his flesh was already detached from his body but… it was a horrifying sight that sent shivers down the spines of those who watched.
“Mr. Brand.”
Guillaume Wald called Brandt over. But that was the end of it.
I couldn’t bring myself to stop him. It was hard to imagine what would happen if I tried to stop Brand who had madness flashing in his eyes.
At that moment Brand’s head turned around to face Guillaume Wald. It was a movement that was almost eerie as if a wild beast was looking back.

“You would say that this is excessive? Of course it is. This Adler is not a count. He probably doesn’t know what has happened to our family. But what about my daughter and son-in-law and grandson? What crime did they commit to deserve such a horrible death?”
“I’m sorry Mr. Brand! But….”
“Yes I know. The guilt-by-association system is just the rage of the uncivilized. However… It is absurd that you inherit power wealth and even will but not sin! Those who inherit should inherit sin as well! And as the parent of my daughter and son-in-law my children I should….”
“Oh no! This can’t be!”
Azadin tried to stop him but it was too late. An enraged Brand turned around and swung his axe striking Guillaumewald.
Azadin blew the candlestick and killed the axe spear’s power but it was not enough to stop the mighty Brand.
But then something unexpected happened.
Guillaumewald blocked Brand’s attack with his sword. Guillaumewald had predicted that Brand would attack him when he became enraged.
“Ugh!”
A terrible force pushed through Guillaume Wald’s body.
-puck!
Guillaume Wald’s body rolled on the ground as he blocked the axe spear but was pushed back by the force.
“stop!”
Azadin stopped Brand. But Brand started sobbing and threw his axe spear instead.
“Eu …
“First of all it would be more painful to keep Adler alive.”
“….”
“And Guillaume Wald… is he okay?”
“My arm is broken.”
“You are really weak.”
The knight was hit by the clerk and his arm was broken. Azadin asked Guillaume Wald with a bitter smile.
“Do you want to take revenge on Brand? I can’t just let it go since a clerk like you harmed the one who would become the lord.”
“Oh no. What… haha.”
Guillaume Wald shook his head.
“He has every right to be angry. I didn’t know he was suffering like that. I didn’t know my father and brother could do something like that.”
“okay.”
Azadin smiled bitterly.
“Your Majesty Brand. Prince Adler’s life is yours. But won’t Guillaume Wald be so forgiving?”
“I know it in my head but I just can’t stand it.”
“But look carefully. Look at this face. Doesn’t it look nothing like my father?”
“….”
Guillaume Wald already has a complex about his appearance so this comment seems too harsh.
“It’s too much to beat up an abandoned child for his father’s sins. Let Guillaume Bald succeed Lantaric. That’s revenge on Count Lantaric. Count Lantaric would really hate it. Don’t you think so?”
Azadin convinced Brand.
“Certainly… Sir Guillaume Wald does not resemble the Count.”
At Azadin’s persuasion Brand knelt on the ground.
“I’m sorry Sir Guillaume Wald. I lost my mind…”

This convinced Brand!
Guillaume Wald felt uneasy for some reason. Still he was more pleased with having persuaded Brand than with the story about his appearance.
“It’s okay Mr. Brand. If anything I should be grateful if you tolerate my presence. A broken arm is no big deal.”
Guillaume Wald accepted Brand’s apology and showed his forgiveness by begging for forgiveness himself.
“I’m so embarrassed. I think I’m going to lose my mind.”
When Brand said that Azadin became serious.
“Oh but don’t lose your mind already. I like you the Brass Knight but since you’ve come to your senses I should tell you the story about the Emperor’s Treasure House.”
“ha ha ha.”
Brand smiled bitterly and gestured to Azadin.
“Let’s go to the Count’s study. Let’s look for the Count’s secret diary there.”
But before the party could head to the study the vassals arrived late. What they found was Prince Adler held captive with both arms cut off and Guillaume Wald wounded but still in good spirits.
“What the heck is this!?”
“Sir Guillaume Wald?!”
The occupants were astonished. The meaning of the sight unfolding before their eyes was clear.
“According to the laws established by the sacred eight thrones of Yaegas I the eldest son have come to rectify the laws of this land on behalf of my father Count Lantarik. Anyone who would deny my birthright should come before me now.”
Guillaume Wald stood before the vassals with dignity.
The ones who cut off Adler’s arm were the people from the Arael tribe of the Heralds but if you say this everyone will think that it was only Guillaume Wald who cut off Adler’s arm.
The vassals looked at each other. But that was only for a moment and soon they all knelt before Guillaume Wald.
“Sir Guillaume Wald! You are the true master of Lantaric!”
“Please lead Lantarik!”
“These damn sons of bitches!”
Adler was indignant that even his men had betrayed him but the fight was already over when he lost his arm.
Adler has already been captured so even if he goes there is no one who will challenge Guillaume Wald’s birthright.
There was no one who was so loyal to Adler in the first place. The Count had pointed out Adler and since Guillaume Wald had not yet shown much prominence they simply supported Adler.
Now that Guillaume Wald has shown his extraordinary skills there is no reason to support Adler the youngest by breaking the laws of the kingdom.
“Thank you. Thanks to your devoted support Lantarik was able to prosper. I have not forgotten your hard work.”
Guillaume Wald praised his vassals for turning their attitudes around like turning the palm of one’s hand.
The vassals blushed in shame in front of Guillaume Wald but Guillaume Wald did not truly resent them. His father had already chosen Adler as his successor and had already told the vassals. Their choice of Adler was also an act of loyalty to his father.
“I know that your father entrusted Adler to you so I know that you were loyal to Adler. And now Salasma is suffering from a drought and refugees are swarming. You have waged an unreasonable war and the people are being killed and our Lantarik’s treasury is empty. When I become a count I intend to restore relations with Salasma and relieve the starving people! So I really need your help! Will you help me?”
“Thank you.”
The vassals were relieved that Guillaume Bald would not purge them but rather exploit them. There is a world of difference between saying that you will just let them go and saying that you will be spared because there is a place where you are needed.
Moreover Guillaume Wald’s words were so generous and compassionate that I couldn’t help but admire him.
“Well then… I will take care of Lantaric’s affairs with the vassals. Master Brand please fulfill my promise to those who helped me.”
“All right.”
Brand went to the study with Guillaume Wald’s permission.
“Shati!”
Azadin gave orders to Shati before heading to the study.
“Regeneration magic on Sir Guillaume Wald’s arm.”
“Do you really think I’m some kind of medicine cabinet?”
“You don’t want to do it?”
As Azadin asked Midiam and Ismail slowly reached for their weapons.
I’ve now extracted all the information I could from Nagain Shati. All that’s left is her green magic especially her power of regeneration but if she doesn’t want to cooperate anymore I have no choice but to kill her.
“Oh no!”
Shati was frightened by the secretly threatening Midiam and Ismail.
‘You know I’m a bit of a coward for an agent.’
‘So weak…’
Then Azaddin stopped Midiam and Ismail and said:
“It may seem like I’m secretly threatening you but aside from that I have high expectations for you. You’re very helpful and supportive. To be honest you’re always more than I expected so I’m always grateful.”
“….”
“Please.”
“Oh really. There’s nothing I can do about warm-blooded animals. I get it.”
Chatie decided to treat Guillaume Baldwin’s wounds.
“Thank you.”
Azadin smiled and followed Brand into the study.
