    #13. The Tooth’s Clan 4

Everyone loses their will to fight and trembles in fear when they see the ogre a greedy monster carrying a large obsidian axe and tearing and eating animals alive.

The scene unfolding before them was so horrific that Azadin had gouged out their eyes one by one and the one remaining eye was so regrettable.

They somehow managed to squeeze their way out of the meat crate they were trapped in but they changed their minds when they saw the goblins following them from below desperately trying to eat the blood and flesh oozing out through the cracks.

If I try to get out of here I’ll just get attacked by those goblins.

    Then the ogre stopped walking.

“Human village. Large. Strong fortress. Lots of meat.”

The ogre said this and patted his belly.

    “Boss. What should we do?”

    “what?”

    Everyone was shocked.

Usually a group of ogres and hobgoblins would have an ogre as the leader. But this ogre was clearly telling one of the goblins that he was the leader.

Then one of the goblins stood up. It wasn’t even a hobgoblin the size of a man but a goblin the size of a human child. Its body was covered in dark blue tattoos and in its hand it held a wand decorated with animal bones.

“The Great Tooth King wants the Shinwangjinseo. There is a Shinwangjinseo in that village… That is… The Great Tooth King… Krrrrrrrr!”

The goblin who had been speaking like a human suddenly started to scratch his own face with his claws. The goblin opened his eyes wide as he hurt himself to the point where blood spurted out and flesh fell off.

“The New King’s Book! It’s mine! Mine! The King of Teeth!? I’ll take the New King’s Book and become the King of Teeth! Eat shit! The King of Teeth is far away and I’m close! The New King’s Book….”

The goblin held up a bone-decorated wand. An ominous yellow flame rose from the wand and it swung its tail in a direction toward the village even though there was no wind.

“I’ll take the Shinwangjinseo! Let’s go! Goldu!”

The goblin said so and pestered the ogre.

“Goldu. Stores meat. Instead of eating it all at once it is stored and eaten over a long period of time. A smart ogre who knows how to invest in preparation for a Goldu crisis.”

The ogre patted his belly and moved forward with the other goblins. Soon a gate with a lit bonfire appeared before their eyes.

    *********

The town’s vigilantes stood on the watchtower and watched the approaching ogre army.

    “…Fuck.”

    “There are so many.”

There was one ogre three hobgoblins and about ten goblins attached to the hobgoblins all wearing clothes decorated with the clan symbol.

They are not just wandering monsters but rather members of a regular clan’s advance party or scouts.

“It’s okay. Our gate is strong…”

That’s when the hunter said so.

    -Boohoo!

A large rock flew in and crashed into the gate wall. It was the ogre who had picked up the large rock and thrown it.

The door held but the lock popped open and dust and wood chips poured out from the cracks in the door.

    “Hic?!”

    “this!”

    “Shoot!”

The archers began to shoot arrows at the hunter’s direction but the arrows simply hit the ogre’s large meat box made of woven trees that he had swung in front of him.

    “Hey!”

The ogre picks up the rock again. The hobgoblins approach the gate with shields raised and the goblins charge after them.

    “Huh!”

The archers made a mistake by focusing their first attack on the ogres. The second and third arrow attacks did knock down some of the goblins but by now the enemy had latched onto the wall of the gate.

The hobgoblins raise their shields over their heads to block while the goblins beat at the door with their saw-like weapons.

    “Hey!”

The ogre hurled the rock again. This time it flew over the gate wall and struck the vigilante who was shooting arrows.

    “Eww!”

    “Oh my!”

Then suddenly a hand shot up from under the wall grabbed the vigilante’s belt and dragged him back shooing him away. A rock narrowly missed his head and struck the tower of a nearby building.

    “Eek?!”

    “What are you?”

    “uh?”

Everyone was shocked. Wasn’t it a man with a hawk mask on his face hanging on the gate wall holding on to a person’s belt with one hand and the wall with the other?

    It’s tremendous strength.

It’s not easy to lift a person with one hand but he supports the weight of two people including himself with the other hand.

And what’s with that bird mask on your face?

    “Can you come down?”

He put the thing he was holding down under the barrier and climbed up onto the barrier himself.

“I will join the defense of the gate.”

    “Who are you?”

“A messenger from the Emperor passing by.”

As he said this he untied the bow from his waist and put the string on.

Usually when stringing a bow you put the bowstring between your legs use all your body strength to bend the bowstring and then string the bowstring. However this man strung the bowstring with just his hands as if it were a child’s toy bow.

    “The Emperor’s messenger?”

    “The messenger clan?!”

    “Yes it’s the messenger clan.”

The one who suddenly appeared said that he was a member of the Herald Clan and picked up the archer’s quiver lying on the floor.

    *********

    “Please be careful.”

A woman holding a lantern carefully lights the way for Azadin concerned for him.

Among the refugees who were made up of elderly people children and women there were some young women with some physical strength holding lanterns and lighting the way. Two of them were assigned to Azadin and Midiam Ismail whom he had never seen before.

    “it’s okay.”

Azadin was grateful for the kindness of those who had distributed two of their few lanterns to them.

    “How pathetic.”

    Medium clicked his tongue.

    “what?”

    “It’s not elegant. It’s ugly.”

“So you also think that protecting the people of Hybris is a more beautiful thing than throwing them away.”

    “…ah.”

The people of the Aragasa clan had various opinions about their future course of action.

Among them was how to interact with the people of Hybris who originally lived on this continent. Opinions were divided on this matter.

They persecute us so we should hate them too.

They are inferior to us so we as superior beings must rule over them.

To the Aragasa people who lived under curses and persecution the people of Hybris were a disgusting thing that dared to attack them without knowing what they were doing.

    but….

Nevertheless the medium was speaking. It would be a shame if the knights abandoned the people.

The Aragasa people have suffered persecution and oppression for a long time and hate the Hybris people but they say that protecting and guarding them is a beautiful thing.

“That’s true. Is it strange that I an Aragasa sympathize with the people of Hybris?”

“It doesn’t matter. I think so too.”

Azadin said and took the mask out of his bosom.

“I guess people are too kind when you pretend to be blind.”

    *********

If you pretend to be blind you will often meet kind people.

As a people of Aragasa who are persecuted by the people of Hybris I wish I could hate all the people of Hybris.

After experiencing such kindness it becomes difficult to hate anyone.

There are cases where people who were kind to the blind man start to stone him when they find out that he is a herald but that is inevitable as long as the King’s Church rules over the people.

    [Is it protecting the people?]

The Emperor’s voice called out as he watched Azadin climb up the mountain path towards the gate village.

    [How great my messenger!]

“Then this is one gold coin?”

[No that’s not it. Anyway you are great. My praise is the same as the Emperor’s praise so aren’t you embarrassed?]

    “A public official who doesn’t give a single coin….”

Azadin grumbled and went up the mountain path returning alone to the gateway village.

He changed his appearance by putting on the clothes he wore when pretending to be a blind pilgrim. He stretched out his crouching body changed his expression put on a mask and rushed into the village saving a person who was about to be sacrificed and stood on top of the gate.

    “The messenger clan?”

    “The gold devil?”

    “Why a soulless blasphemous thing?”

When the people were wondering Azadin kicked the quiver of the archer he had rescued with his foot.

Arrows flew into the sky and Azadin reached out and caught one shooting it at the ogre.

    -Waaaaaaaaa!

    “No that’s impossible…”

I had already shot an arrow but it was blocked by the box the ogre was wearing on its chest and the rest of it was covered in thick fat so it had no effect.

    however….

    -Pop!

Two arrows pierced the ogre’s eyes simultaneously.

    “Kkuu …

The ogre screamed and fell backwards and people poured out of the box he was wearing on his chest.

    “omg?!”

    “What is that?”

    It’s like magic.

The special ability of the Herald Clan is to fire two arrows at almost the same time. If it weren’t for the Iseongung even if the first arrow hits the eye the ogre would have flinched in pain and definitely saved the second eye.

However Azadin unleashed his double-crossing sword and took out both of the ogres’ eyes at once before the ogre could even react.

    “Ahhhh! My eyes! They hurt!”

The ogre moved indignantly swinging the obsidian axe in his hand but the one without an eye was unable to walk properly.

He stumbled over rocks and fell staggering and rolling around on the mountain path but the nearby goblins suffered instead.

    “Wow that’s great!”

The tide of battle has turned in an instant. With the most powerful ogre incapacitated all the rest need to do is defend themselves using the barrier.

    however….

As the vigilantes stood in shock the herald who had taken out both of the ogres’ eyes in a single stroke leapt down the gate towards the goblin army below.

    “no!?”

    “Crazy…..”

    It’s suicidal.

There is no reason for a divine bow capable of hitting an ogre’s eyeball from this far away on a dark night to abandon the glass of the barrier and jump down.

It was different when I was shooting at enemies from a distance with a bow than when I was jumping into the melee below. A loud noise rang out as if to mock their worries.

    -Thud!

    Azadin jumped down the barrier.

    “no?”

I landed on top of the hobgoblin defending with his shield.

It was a trample. As if he were trampling an ant Azadin simply stomped on the hobgoblin with his shield and stood there looking at the group of goblins around him.

That arrogant strong and proud appearance… stole the attention of the vigilantes of the people of Hybris who were hostile to the Emperor’s messenger.

    “amazing.”

I couldn’t help but exclaim in admiration.
