Night of the Soulless Heathens – 119
by Jessie@AFNCC
#119. Wendigo 5
“Die you servants of Yaegasu!”
Walter grabbed his staff and tried to combine the wand and the spell to cast a spell but Azadin’s sword pierced his neck before he could.
“Kuk. Kuk.”
Walter died with a satisfied expression. He didn’t expect to be able to counterattack and do anything to Azadin at that moment anyway. The reason he was smiling was probably because he believed that the Yaegas’s people including Azadin would suffer great damage from the Wendigo.
“…Unlike anyone else he was an orc brimming with pride.”
Chatty commented as she looked at the sight.
“You idiot. The Kurt Pantheon is not worthy of such loyalty.”
Scott despite being an orc had a harsh opinion of the Kurts. This further irritated Shati.
“What? How dare you!”
Scott chimed in next to the sullen Shati.
“You are descended from the great orc bloodline yet you play on the same level as the snakeheads. Religion and custom are truly frightening. Even those with great intelligence are bound to submit to custom. Otherwise an orc would not be able to play on the same level as me.”
Meanwhile the Wendigo continued to pour cold air into the area. It no longer attempted to launch a direct attack but it continued to breathe cold air seemingly intending to freeze the entire underground passage causing the cold air to accumulate inside.
“Are you okay ma’am?”
Brock approached the fallen Mrs. Liz.
“Hmm. Not okay at all.”
Mrs. Liz frowned and held up her arm. Her wrist was dangling broken as if she had landed badly when she bounced off the ice.
‘Oh my. This guy is really…’
Azadin looked through the orc’s corpse as he watched Brok forcefully decide the matter by provoking the orc in an attempt to save his wife.
There were copies of the Shinwangjinseo that had lost their luster and copies of the Shinwangjinseo that still had their luster. Even the Shinwangjinseo copy that had lost its luster had a faint afterglow lingering around its edges which made it clear that it was something out of the ordinary.
“Madam do you have the Shinwangjinseo? Please hand it over.”
“What? You don’t like it?”
“….”
At that moment the ice around Azadin shattered.
“I’m not in the mood for jokes. Do you have a copy of the New King’s Book?”
“I see you guys are after the Shinwangjinseo. Are you a messenger clan with archery skills?”

Mrs. Liz took out a copy of the New King’s Book from her bosom. These too had already been used up as if only an afterglow remained.
“If you mess with the Shinwangjinseo against the Jeonryong clan you’ll be in big trouble. Here.”
“thanks.”
Azadin also received the letter of the new king from Lady Liz.
“Hey we’re going to Naga Empire we worked hard to collect this.”
“To be exact it’s a member of the Kurt Pantheon Union. Don’t speak as if only the Nagas put in the effort.”
“Shut up. Traitor.”
“Anyway what should I do with that now?”
“We’re not safe yet. It’s getting colder!”
Sir Brock said so and took off his cloak to cover Lady Leeds. He was a very loving husband.
‘Why is this guy like this?’
Azadin looked at the sight with pity.
“I’m just reducing it for now.”
If you stay still in the confluence the cold will continue to build up and you will eventually freeze to death. To prevent this Lord Zibek and Lord Brand went to the passage leading to the confluence and dealt with the Wendigos that did not approach and only spit out cold air one by one reducing the amount of cold air flowing in.
“But the temperature outside is dropping too. Every time the Wendigo main body briefly appears in the real world a tremendous cold air is released into the real world as well.”
Sir Jibek trembled with a foreboding of impending doom.
“If we don’t banish that thing quickly a terrible disaster will strike this area. No maybe….”
Jibek was tight-lipped. But everyone knew what he wanted to say. Now that the King’s Church the nobles and the Yaegas have all fallen can they stop such a giant monster? If they can’t?
“….”
Mrs. Liz clung to her husband Lord Brock shivering from the cold and the pain of her dislocated wrist and kept her mouth shut.
‘I think he knows something. But if I ask him directly he’ll avoid answering.’
Azadin asked Scott instead.
“Isn’t there a way?”
“The reason the Nether Wendigos appear here is because there exists something connected to the Wendigo somewhere in this world. The Kurt Pantheon Kurt’s gods are said to have sealed the Nether monsters but in reality they have sealed their divine creatures.”
“Then I guess you brought that sacred water from the Naga Empire to release the Wendigo here.”
“Yes. We need to figure out how the divine being was awakened and where it is now.”
Scott pointed to Mrs. Liz.
“The woman who summoned the Wendigo by participating in the ritual knows where it is?”
“Tch.”
Mrs. Liz took something out of her bosom. It was a dagger made of bone. I don’t know what bone it was made of but it was black and oozing with an evil aura.
“It is said that the Nether’s sacred waters have such a powerful charm for wizards that those who hold them are charmed.”
“This is the dagger of cannibalism. It is a sacred item from the Nether that cannot be destroyed by any power or magic of this world. It has a strong charm just like the orc said. Just holding it makes me feel powerful and I can hear pleasant whispers inside me.”
So Mrs. Liz kept her mouth shut because she didn’t want to reveal this new thing.
“Are you saying that you yourself are about to freeze to death?”
“This level of cold is just right. It relieves the pain.”
She held out her dislocated wrist.
“Medium.”

“yes.”
Medium stepped forward grabbed her wrist and put it back on.
“Whoa!”
A scream echoed along with the horrible sound of wrists snapping together. And at the same time Medium snatched the Dagger of Cannibalism from her hand and brought it to Azadin.
Azadin took it and asked Mrs. Liz.
“How did you awaken the Wendigo?”
“At the deepest part of this underpass there is an altar of fratricide. If you place a member of the same species as the caster there stab them to death and eat them the Wendigo will grant you its blessing.”
“Have you eaten?”
“I didn’t kill it I just drank some of its blood. To provoke the Wendigo. That’s what I was trying to do but those guys from Kurt’s Pantheon….”
Mrs. Liz frowned.
“Oh my god.”
Sir Brock and Guillaume Wald Seebeck who were listening groaned.
Ritual of cannibalism. Isn’t that what they mean by a horrible and evil ritual?
“It wasn’t my intention! I was just trying to get some strength from the sleeping Wendigo. But those Kurt Pantheon Union guys….”
“So what about the altar?”
Azadin prioritized the Wendigo over the treatment of Lady Liz.
“If you go down with the flow of the water you’ll be at the deepest part. But you can’t just go there right? There’ll be a hell that’s incomparable to what it is now on the altar side.”
“What does that mean?”
“A lot of the guys from the Kurt Pantheon Union and the Naga Empire died there and became Wendigos. Rather than dealing with them why don’t we just turn all the copies of the Book of the New Kings into the Light of the King’s Flower? Oh but that’s impossible right now. That orc bastard used up all the energy he had stored up.”
That was why the orc wizard Walter smiled as he died. He believed that since he had squandered the white magic charged in the Book of the New King the humans who had harmed him would be killed by the Wendigo.
‘Well I still have a lot of copies of the Shinwangjinseo that are still charged…’
Azadin cannot tolerate the loss of the copy of the New King’s Book.
‘I guess I have to deal with it somehow while leaving behind the Shinwangjinseo.’
In order to solve this case without losing a copy of the New King’s Book the powerful members of the Kurt Pantheon Union must become Wendigos and enter the underground where it is teeming.
*********
Meanwhile Sir Brock came to the defense of his wife to Guillaumewald who was claiming to be the acting Count of Lantaric.
“There Sir Guillaumebald. My wife is simply being manipulated by that evil Nether god. It was never her intention.”
“….”
Guillaume Wald was speechless at the attitude of Lord Brock who came to his wife’s defense.
No matter how you look at Mrs. Liz’s actions only the statement that she ‘had no intention of releasing the Wendigo’ is true and the rest is lies.
No it’s not a lie but even so they are serious crimes that deserve to be burned at the stake ten times over. Are you saying that you are going to defend them as a husband? To this extent I would say that he is a pure and innocent boy…
‘But this kid cheated on me?’
It was common for nobles to have three wives and four concubines but Sir Brock’s case was a bit different.
“Let’s find that altar first. But…..”
Azadin frowned. The cold air accumulated as he went down causing the temperature to drop further.
“If we go down without thinking we’ll die. Let’s regroup.”
“reshuffle?”
Medium was puzzled.
“okay.”
Azadin took the axe he had brought from Sir Guillaume Wald and used it to break the ice pulling out the wood and other items stuck in the water. He began to collect the trash that had flowed into the sewer that could be used as kindling.
“Scott! Light the fire.”
“I used a lot of magic power today.”
Scott grumbled and cast a spell on the wood to start a fire.
“Hey. It’s so wet that it’s hard to light.”
“….”
Even so I felt the chill ease a little once the fire was lit.
“That’s great.”
Jibek muttered that absentmindedly.
Scott proved his worth today. If he hadn’t used necromancy he wouldn’t have been able to repel the Wendigo attack without anyone getting hurt.
In addition since he shows his versatility by using magic such as creating glowstone and lighting fire on wet wood it is tolerable even if he provokes people with his words. However his position as a knight of Jibek has become difficult.
‘I can’t accept necromancy…’
However there is no denying Scott’s talented contribution.
“Okay that’s a little better.”
Azadin lit a fire and gathered Guillaume Wald Brock and the injured Mrs. Liz around the fire.
“Give me your cloaks and blankets.”
“ah.”
They cannot be expected to have combat capabilities. Azadin is trying to strip off the winter equipment of those with low combat capabilities and give it to those with high combat capabilities.
Asking knights like Guillaume Bald and Brok to take off their cloaks and blankets now is tantamount to telling them that they are too weak to be allowed to go down there. Normally this would be something that proud knights would object to…
“I will do so!”
Having already felt the overwhelming difference in skill they immediately took off their cloaks and the blankets they were wearing underneath them and handed them over to Azadin and his group.
“You too remain in the Buddha.”
“yes?”
Medium’s eyes widened at Azadin’s words telling her to stay behind. Azadin whispered in her ear.
“…Keep an eye on Mrs. Liz.”
“ah.”
Someone had to be left behind to keep an eye on that sorceress.
“I’ll stay here too. I hate the cold.”
Shati also chose to remain in the Buddha.
Medium swallowed. Mrs. Liz was injured and didn’t know much about Medium’s abilities but Shati knew Medium well.
The watchful eyes of both Lady Chatty and Mrs. Liz rested on her shoulders.
