Night of the Soulless Heathens – 107

#107. Orc must die 3
Scott McGreen was munching on a few fish Ismail had caught from the river bones included while scooping up a bowl of boiled oatmeal with his other hand.
“If you’re afraid of gaining muscle you could eat a little less.”
Ismail complained.
Thanks to the supplies I found from Count Lantarik’s army at the bridgehead garrison I had plenty of food for the people and beans for the horses and goats. But still when I travel food takes up a lot of space and weight…
Looking at this guy’s appetite I’m worried about his future. Should I take this guy with me? It seems like it’s going to be very difficult to supply food in the future.
The reason they camped right after crossing the Kora River was to ensure that the messenger tribe could easily obtain food from the riverside and avoid any disruption to their future supplies.
And that was a wise choice. Given how much this orc eats we would have been in trouble if we hadn’t camped here.
“Wherever I go people talk about what I eat. But that’s what hiring an orc is all about. With these foods you can borrow my great knowledge and magic.”
“I don’t want to borrow it because necromancy is illegal.”
As a proud herald of the Emperor Azadin knew that necromancy was forbidden by the Emperor’s law and Imperial statutes.
“Aside from necromancy my talents are diverse.”
“So. You said you would interpret the Book of the New King and teach it to Lord Nana Jibek?”
“To be exact I am teaching that paladin named Jibek and to you I am merely showing you the way.”
“hmm?”
“What you use is a bit different from what the other heralds use. You use wild magic that runs wild in an incomplete manner. It’s the way of the savage elves.”
Scott noticed that Azadin was using the Kazas spell.
“Because it was an unavoidable situation.”
“How many copies of the Book of the New King do you have?”
“Four chapters.”
Azadin said so. He got another one yesterday against Scott McGreen’s Nightcrawler bringing his total to five but he wasn’t obligated to elaborate.
“Four chapters? You have a lot! Can I see them?”
“Wait a minute. Are you going to have that orc necromancer analyze the Book of the New King?”
Jibek was embarrassed and stopped Azadin.
“If the Shinwangjinseo the supreme treasure of the King’s Church and its secrets of white magic are interpreted by the Kurt clan’s followers it will surely bring disaster to the Eight Kingdoms.”
“The task of interpreting the copy of the Shinwangjinseo is not so easy to complete.”

When the Herald Clan obtained a copy of the New King’s Book all of the Herald Clan’s magicians worked together to create an interpretation and although they mobilized all their capabilities for over a year to research they were unable to create a proper interpretation.
But this orc creates the interpretation book on his own? If that is possible then it would be possible to say that the orc is more than just a genius born of the times as he says with his own mouth.
“And maybe just my guess there’s no need to interpret the Book of the New King for me. Right?”
“This is amazing. Do you know what I’m trying to do?”
“It just occurred to me when I was dealing with the shadow demon earlier.”
Azadin took out a copy of the New King’s Book and looked at it.
“The copy of the Divine King’s Book is simply a copy of the book on paper but it is filled with white magic. Is this because the Divine King’s Book is the light of the King’s Flower?”
“Yes. It is the pinnacle of pure white magic power and even if it is used up now and depleted it will rise again after some time by receiving the light of the surrounding royal flowers. With just that you can create truly wonderful magical tools.”
“Huh!?”
It was a sound that made Jibek who was listening feel like he was going to faint.
“You want to make a magical tool with a copy of the Book of the King? Are you in your right mind? The Book of the King is the treasure of the King’s Church and the power to protect all the people living in this Hybris. To make a magical tool out of it and steal its power is unbearable blasphemy.”
When Zibek said that Azadin felt a pang inside.
‘I wrapped it around an arrow and fired it at the undead. If I reveal that fact I’ll be in big trouble.’
Fortunately at that time Jibek was busy commanding his soldiers and did not see how many copies of the New King’s Book were being rolled around by Azadin.
“Well since we’re on the subject let’s give it a try.”
Azadin decided to use the New King’s Book no matter what Zibek said.
*********
Azadin tried to absorb the white magic directly into his body from the pages of the copy of the New King’s Book.
“You wouldn’t be able to absorb or do anything with a normal magic tool that has a magic source. The repulsion force is too strong. You probably have tremendous magical resistance.”
“You know a lot.”
“But the Shinwangjinseo is an exception. Because this world is filled with the light of the Wanghwa and you are already accustomed to the light of the Wanghwa. And surprisingly….”
Scott said looking over the pages of the New King’s Book.
“These copies acknowledge you.”
“You admit it?”
“Of course. If you just kill people and manifest them no one will suffer like that. The Shinwangjinseo and the Light of the King have their own will to some extent and they try their best to avoid entering the Kurts and their followers. That’s why Nagada hired me.”
“Why were you hired by Nagas?”
“The current leader of the Kurt God Tribe Federation is Naga. The Naga Empire is being revived.”
“This kid!”
Shati who was listening was indignant. She didn’t like that the most powerful secret of the empire was leaked to the orc who was hired for money and food. It was so easy to leak information that she herself had intentionally kept quiet about.
“Ah. The Kurt clan’s followers are fusing together with Nagas as the main force? I thought so too.”
“Yes. The only ones who can expect organizational power are the Nagas. There’s no way the Tooth King’s ogres can properly demonstrate organizational power. Those who are as hungry for blood and meat as the Mejeri Apostles… Well there are many Orcs who have joined the Mejeri Apostles.”
Orcs were also suffering from severe hunger just like Mezeri’s apostles. Some of the orcs who had gone mad from hunger threw themselves into Mezeri since they could enjoy rotting flesh with Mezeri’s blessing.
However in terms of organizational power they cannot match the Nagas who built the great empire that ruled over all of Hybris in the past. If the Kurt clan’s followers want to reclaim this world they will naturally have to unite with the Nagas as their main force.
“So what? Do you need help?”
“Um. Help me… a little.”
“i get it.
Scott carefully adjusted his breathing as he stood next to Azadin who was concentrating while holding a copy of the New King’s Book.

“Truly understanding the Grimoire is the path to madness. However understanding madness while not falling into it is the talent and genius of a magician. Half of the Herald Clan. The Grimoire is broken inside your body and because of that the pure uninterpreted magic of madness is running wild. Inject the white magic of the Shinwangjinsho into it without causing it to clash but rather harmonize it. You have an image that is stored inside your body.”
“….I said help me. Don’t say it with words.”
“Concentrate your mind on the center of the sole of your foot. Feel as if you are sucking the white magic from your hand back into the ground!”
Scott said that and touched Azadin then pulled his hand away.
“I am a necromancer. White magic is my enemy.”
“That’s a relief. I was worried you’d take this for personal use.”
“What would you like me to give you? Even if it’s the opposite of my black magic it’ll still be useful. But…..”
Scott clicked his tongue as he watched the copy of the New King’s Book glow in Azadin’s hands.
“You succeeded right? For a species of idiots you have pretty good skills and talent.”
“Is that a compliment?”
“It’s a compliment. Write in your diary that you received a compliment from me. Today is the day you were reborn. You can celebrate it as your second birthday.”
“….”
Azadin glared at Scott who was acting cocky and looked at the copy of the New King’s Book he was holding in his hand. The copy of the New King’s Book had lost its luster and turned into regular paper.
“Is this okay?”
“It will recover after about a week. Besides I didn’t even damage the light of the King’s Flower. I just added more light to it by returning it to the ground. If you continue like this your power will only grow stronger.”
“okay?”
Azadin returned the copy of the New King’s Book to his bracelet and moved his body.
“I don’t feel like there’s any big change?”
“How can you get full after just one drink? This is just the beginning. How is it? Do you see how useful I am now?”
“I don’t know because I didn’t get full after the first drink. Besides I’ve already taken everything I could from you.”
“No it’s still far away!”
Scott said and frowned.
“Aren’t you curious about what the Nagas are going to do next? And where the next manifestation of the New King’s Book is? I can give you all that information.”
“This dirty traitor doesn’t even know shame! How could he betray the Kurt God Alliance and the Naga Empire so easily!?”
Shati was furious at Scott for trying to disrupt the Naga Empire’s events.
“Oh what are you talking about? I have always been loyal to my mercenary employer. Right now I am your employer so wouldn’t betraying your employer be considered a traitor? Now if I come out and offer my loyalty to the Empire I am betraying my current employer.”
“…Thank you for that.”
Azadin thanked Scott with a sheepish expression for his sincerity.
Meanwhile Jibek who was watching all of this from the side was perplexed. If the copy of the King’s Church’s treasure the Shinwangjinseo is also the light of the King’s Flower… As a knight I should take it to the church immediately. But the messenger clan and the orc necromancer are using it for personal purposes?
The problem is that it was Xibek himself who chose this messenger clan. He chose Azadin over Jecht and he still has no regrets about that choice.
‘I know but I’m in a difficult position.’
“Whew. Okay. Then should we do the other pages too?”
As Azadin was saying this a group of armed men suddenly appeared through the bushes.
*********
Guillaumebald son of Garnahair Count of Lantaric was an ugly man with a long face like a horse.
Although Count Lantarik’s other children were all born with outstanding looks he was the only one born ugly and was often the subject of gossip but he was proud of being the rightful eldest son of Count Lantarik and loved his father.
He was currently scouting the banks of the Korra River with the help of adventurers from the Cell Sword Guild.
“Damn it! Those fucking bastards!”
Guillaume Wald was furious as he cut the weeds blocking his path with his knife.
“Calm down Sir Guillaume Wald.”
The mercenaries of the Adventurers’ Cell Sword Guild laughed at such a Guillaume Bald.
“Am I being honest? The signal fire went up at the bridgehead but I ignored it and ended up losing the bridgehead fortress?”
When the Count of Lantaric invaded the Salasmaa border he secured a bridgehead across the river Kora to facilitate the movement of supplies and troops. He requisitioned a fishing village in Salasmaa and made it into a bridgehead position.
But yesterday a signal fire was lit at that bridgehead position.
