Night of the Soulless Heathens – 105

#105. Orc must die 1
As the Nagas fled the orc necromancer shook off his clothes approached the broken wheelchair and began to repair it.
“hey.”
When Azadin spoke to the orc necromancer he answered.
“My name is Scott McGreen. I am a descendant of the great Greenswald.”
“Aren’t most orcs descendants of Greenswald?”
Among the Kurt gods the orc god Kanak had one champion named Grinswald. He was known as the first and last orc overlord who brought prosperity to the orcs in this land.
After Greenswald there were no orcs who could move for long periods of time. Most of them suffered from the blessing and curse of Kanak lost their homeland and became mercenaries for other races selling their skills.
Even in such circumstances most orcs claimed that their ancestors were Greenswalds.
“That’s why he’s great. The great overlord who sowed the seeds for all of our species. Being one of his descendants means that we too can become like Greenswald. It might be hard for inferior species like you to understand but what can we do? You too would have wanted to be born smart. I’m the one who should understand.”
“….”
“Kill him? Is it worth keeping him alive?”
Medium who arrived late asked Azadin about his intentions.
“No I let the Nagas run away but I don’t want to lose the information I obtained with great effort.”
“Yes. There is a lot of information you would want in my smart brain.”
“Wait a minute. You’re not.”
Shati who had been listening looked at the orc in confusion.
“Are you going to change employers that easily?!”
“You’re kidding. Are you worried about that in this situation? I and they saw you betray your own people. You’ve become a traitor to the Nagas. I don’t expect intelligence from a snakehead but at least you can think logically when you speak.”
“What? This kid?!”
Shati was furious at Scott’s provocation.
The funny thing is that Scott doesn’t think it’s a provocation. It’s just a harsh word but Scott McGreen was right.
Azadin had planned for Shati to become a traitor to the Nagas… If he were to return to the Nagas now he would surely be tortured. It would be wise to change employers quickly like Scott.
“What were you guys doing here?”
“I guess I should call it the work of extracting and presenting the New King’s Book.”
“What happened to the Shinwangjinseo?”

“Hmm. I don’t know how brief I should be when explaining this to you idiots. But first could you introduce yourself? I know you’re a messenger clan but….”
“Hey if you’re a prisoner watch what you say. And keep your hands still. What are you doing?”
“Can’t you see it? Aren’t you repairing a wheelchair? Surely you’re not so stupid as to not know this?”
“You don’t seem to have any particular health problems. Can’t you walk on two feet?”
“You don’t know what I’m talking about. If I walk on my own two feet my muscles will grow.”
“Muscles? The more the better right?”
“It may be so when attached to the limbs. However if the heart muscle is fat the capacity of the heart will decrease and its performance will deteriorate. If the amount of blood sent from the heart decreases in a body that already has a lot of muscle you will suffer from lethargy every day. The heart will continue to beat violently to somehow supply more blood which will cause more muscle to be fat and in the end you will die. Huh! My heart is racing just by saying this. Oh no.”
Scott McGreen said that and then fell to the floor.
“Please assemble the wheelchair for me. If it runs for too long I’ll end up in a hypoglycemic state like this.”
“….”
He is a guy who has a lot of demands as soon as he is captured. Azadin sighed and looked at Ismail.
“Yes? Me?”
“Yes. I will retrieve the New King’s Book.”
Azadin retrieved the Shinwangjinseo and the Heukgangjeon that he had used while wrapping around the Heukgangjeon. The tip of the Heukgangjeon’s blade was still sharp.
“I can use it again.”
Azadin put the black quiver back into his quiver and looked around. There was plenty of grain in the garrison that could be used as food and fodder. There was enough leftover for Azadin and his party.
And there were mummified soldiers who appeared to be the Nagas’ escorts and they remained even after Nightcrawler disappeared.
“We’ll have to burn it. Hey Orc. Can this mummy soldier move?”
“Of course. It’s easy.”
“Then let’s move them and gather the bodies together. We’ll have to cremate them all.”
“You want to hold funerals for these people? The Herald Clan? What a strange man. But if that is what you ask I will grant it. In return you must guarantee my safety.”
“You want to live after killing innocent people like this?”
“I didn’t kill anyone directly. What you have here are traces of you humans killing each other. Well my undead killed the soldiers but they died at the hands of the villagers they killed. Isn’t that what they sowed?”
“Okay okay. Okay then collect the bodies.”
The mummified soldiers and the still-healthy undead began to move and collect the corpses. In the meantime Ismail somehow managed to repair the wheelchair and set it upright again.
“Good. You’re quite dexterous. I heard that the messenger clan is quite talented.”
“Shut up Orc.”
“What? You have been praised by Scott McGreen the genius of our time. When you lie in bed surrounded by your descendants and die you will recall this day and tremble with emotion and joy.”
“….”
“Can’t I just kill him? Do I really need this guy’s help?”
Ismail asked Azadin seriously.
“First obtain the New King’s Book.”
As Azadin spoke he looked around. At that moment Zibek and Brand arrived.
“I thought the undead had fallen but you guys won.”
“Ah Lord Jibek. And the soldiers?”
“…Some were killed and some escaped. I tried to prevent damage somehow but the undead suddenly became stronger.”
“What about Mr. Brand Inspiration?”

“Um I’m fine.”
“….”
While soldiers and knights were dying or running away Brand was surprisingly unharmed. He seems to have been born with great strength.
If he had become a warrior he would have made a name for himself in his youth but he lived as a clerk lawyer and writer. Did he discover his talent too late?
“But what is this orc? He looks like a necromancer.”
“This is Scott McGreen.”
Oak Scott McGreen revealed his name.
“It looks like a necromancer hired by the Nagas.”
“Yes. And from now on I will be employed by you.”
“Yes? You want to hire a necromancer?”
Jibek looked at Azadin as if to ask if he was being sincere.
“No let’s just listen to this guy’s story. Orc. What makes you think we won’t kill you?”
“Because you are looking for the Book of the New King. I can manifest the Book of the New King. And I can estimate its location with greater accuracy. If you want to find and collect the Book of the New King you probably don’t want to sacrifice a talented person like me.”
Surely if that were possible this orc would be too valuable to kill.
“And you all know that erasing my brain from this world is something that cannot be tolerated as long as spirituality exists. Of course you could kill me by expressing your inferiority complex about what you don’t have but that would torment your conscience for a long time. Do you think you could bear the guilt of committing the grave sin of erasing one of the greatest intelligences that could exist in this world?”
“If what you’re saying isn’t a bluff it might be useful but I don’t deal with people who kill civilians indiscriminately. Let’s just have a funeral first.”
Scott’s commanding mummy soldiers gathered the corpses and piled them up. Azadin recited a prayer toward the pile of corpses.
“Archangel of the Trinity. Take care of the resentment of those who have met with unjust deaths and guide them to rest. People of Hybris. May you escape this cruel world and find peace!”
As Azadin prayed for blessings and set fire to the corpses a dazzling light began to shine from the burning corpses. It was a copy of the Book of the New King.
The copy of the New King’s Book flew straight to Azadin and landed in his hand.
“Well. You manifested it? You’ll become useless won’t you?”
Medium was so excited that he lifted Scott up.
But Scott was calm.
“It was possible for it to appear this easily because the groundwork for manifesting the Book of the New King was already done in advance. If it were me I could manifest the Book of the New King much more easily without having to go through all this trouble.”
Even after seeing Azadin materialize and accept the Book of the New King right before his eyes the orc showed no sign of intimidation and remained confident.
“Are you very confident?”
“My talent is more than enough to shake the entire heaven and earth. Even if you know the basics of arithmetic you will know that you should not treat a treasure like me lightly. Of course it is understandable that you feel inferior to my talent just as the sun extinguishes the starlight but at least your leader does not harbor any dark jealousy toward me.”
“hmm.”
Azadin was embarrassed to see the orc who confidently believed that he would spare his life. In fact he was the type of person who couldn’t spit in a smiling face so he couldn’t bring himself to kill Shati when she betrayed him and then asked for his life.
‘I can understand Shati’s position to some extent.’
While being captured by Azadin and having his life threatened he was trying to somehow find a way back to his people. Azadin took away Shati’s way back so it was essentially a death sentence or life imprisonment.
The problem is this orc.
“So. You weren’t involved in killing civilians?”
“Haha. It’s just stupid people who kill people and enjoy their superiority through violence. People who are confident in themselves like me don’t even compare themselves to lowly people. If you were half as smart as me you would understand. I’m worried about the future for asking such a stupid question.”
“….”
“Well I’ve talked too much so the muscles at the base of my tongue feel stiff. But it seems like you guys will be convinced if I prove my usefulness now right?”
“It’s hard to believe that an evil necromancer would be allowed to live. Even if Count Lantarik killed the civilians here they must have played a part in the killings. When they attacked the soldiers didn’t they also kill the civilians that Count Lantarik was holding?”
That’s what Zibek said to Azadin.
Just as Shati was in an awkward position where she could not return to her people after being captured by Azadin’s party Jibek was also in an awkward position. Even if Shati was clearly a prisoner if she accompanied a party that brought an orc necromancer that alone would raise doubts about her qualifications as a paladin.
“Yes. Certainly. Count Lantarik’s soldiers massacred the people of Salasma here but there must have been prisoners or people who were held captive. You wouldn’t claim that they didn’t kill them either would you?”
Azadin glared at the orc necromancer Scott McGreen with a cold expression.
Then Scott said
“I can interpret the copy of the New King’s Book.”
