    < Bohemian Club (3) >

Aside from the money involved in playing poker one good thing about it is that you can legally analyze the tendencies of the people you play with.

“Turn it around quickly. Where is the person who turned the wheel?”

Francis J. Henney who sat next to me seemed to have a rather impatient temper.

Because even the slightest movement would make him lose his temper.

“Damn it why am I so unlucky today? Oh Prince. Is this your first time playing poker? How do you win every time?”

The stakes were around $15 per game.

An amount similar to a low-wage worker’s monthly salary.

But considering the wealth of those here the stakes weren’t that high.

‘These kids are easy to deal with.’

Judging from his obsession with winning Hennie seemed to have quite a strong desire to win.

The type that would jump up and down in joy if they gave a moderate amount of effort and then lost by a narrow margin.

    “nice!”

    As expected.

He feels like he has the world because he lost by a narrow margin.

Francis celebrated his first victory in a long time without knowing what I was thinking.

    ‘Did you say inspector?’

If you repeat this a few times and compliment them while gently trying to please them they will probably start talking freely about the information they know.

This could be useful as a source of information.

‘It’s time to start breaking up with the legal profession.’

Isn’t it the legal profession that is one of the high-ranking axes along with figures from the political and economic worlds?

I had to build a relationship with them but I thought I could start with this interest and expand the relationship like a spider web.

“Okay now it begins. From this round onwards I will win everything so Your Majesty you should prepare a generous amount of money.”

This is the most I’ve won so far.

That’s why Hennie singled out only me.

While I was looking through my chips I was amazed at how simple-minded he was like a baby.

“Oh my… I can’t do this anymore because my heart is weak. I’m going to take a break.”

    Pages looked uneasy.

Or maybe like an artist who has just started to blossom his finances are a bit tight.

“Everyone seems to be focused on the game. Do you have any interesting stories to share with us?”

As befitting a media executive Hearst was more interested in the ashes than the game.

Because we were so focused on the game Hurst was staring blankly with his chin propped on one side as if he was bored.

“That’s right. Even though this prince is here for the first time today isn’t he having trouble concentrating on the game? If you have any interesting rumors for the prince’s sake please share them here.”

And our oil eel Anthony nodded in agreement to Hurst’s words.

What’s unique is that he sold me while staying right behind.

    This little snake.

I figured out Anthony’s intentions so I secretly wondered why he was using me as a shield.

“I’m funny. Why do you say that?”

“Hey. Hasn’t this prince been unable to focus on the game since a while ago? Instead of looking at the cards he’s been looking at our faces and looking around… That’s typical behavior for bored people.”

    you also.

You were observing people instead of focusing on the game.

    The target is ‘me’.

When I tried to pretend to focus on the card game again keeping an eye on Anthony.

The painter Pazes came a little closer to me and asked me a question.

“By any chance Prince. You’ve been looking at that woman for a while now. Are you interested in that singer?”

Hurst’s eyes sparkled at Phazes’ whisper.

He had an expression on his face that said an interesting story was about to begin.

“I looked at you a few times because your voice is beautiful.”

The woman kept glancing at me.

But he didn’t necessarily say the words that followed.

Because this was purely my own ‘guess’.

“I’m Selena Aguero a singer. She’s a famous singer here in San Francisco.”

Selena is said to be frequently invited to this club.

    Because it was that popular.

‘I guess you hear a lot of things here and there.’

You must know very well how this club works.

I thought about her for a moment.

“She is said to be from Madrid. Rumor has it that she is the daughter of a fallen nobleman in Spain.”

    “Oh… Please tell me more.”

I was standing still but Hurst was next to me egging on Pazes.

Then Pajes started to glance at Selena and pour out the information he knew.

“Because her job involves singing in front of many people I know that many men have sent her love calls. However she says that not a single one of them has spent the night with her.”

    “Why?”

“I heard that you only want to spend the night with the person you want. That’s what you always say when you’re rejected.”

“There is nothing more enjoyable than conquering a proud woman. Why don’t you try it Prince? If you don’t like it I will try it myself.”

    Anthony snorted at Hearst’s suggestion.

“Mr. Hurst why would Mr. Pages just say something like that at this table? It’s a warning to you not to make a fuss.”

“Why are you like this? I’m Hearst.”

After saying that Hurst suddenly got up from his seat and walked over to the singer.

And what does it seem to say?

He soon returned to the poker table with a sullen expression.

    “What happened?”

Hennie who couldn’t hold back his curiosity asked Hurst straight away.

Then Hurst answered with a slightly timid expression.

“She says she’s not a prostitute. That woman told her to treat my wife well.”

“Tsk tsk. That’s what I said.”

    at that time.

    Henny clenched his fist.

“Nice! I won this game again. I guess the prince’s beginner’s luck is at its peak.”

    Hennie’s face brightened.

    child.

    I keep losing on purpose.

    ‘Shall we start now?’

I had a question for Hennie.

There has never been a more exciting time than now.

    “Ah… I don’t know if I can ask this.”

    “Please speak Your Majesty.”

    “You know that Abe Luef?”

    “yes.”

“Rumor has it that he will only serve a few years in prison and then be released. Is that true?”

Inspector Henney made a face that said it was nothing.

“That’s right. I’ll probably spend about two years in prison.”

    “2 years?”

“Yes. The sentence is shorter than you might think considering the crime.”

    “I see.”

“It’s because of the plea bargain. Oh Prince. Do you know anything about plea bargains?”

A ‘plea bargain’ is a system in which the prison term is reduced by cooperating with the judiciary.

But when I shook my head as if I didn’t know Hennie gave me a brief explanation and consoled me.

“Don’t worry too much. I sold out many big names I was close with to save my life. Even if I come out it won’t be easy to get back on track.”

Everyone here knows my relationship with Ruef.

This is because a significant number of them were special members of the Reconstruction Committee.

Since everyone knew very well what insults Ruef had given me at our first meeting everyone seemed to understand why I was interested in Ruef’s sentence without me having to explain it to them.

“Senator Flint will make an official announcement in five days.”

As useful information began to pour in Anthony quickly began to spill what he knew.

“I will give up my bid for reelection.”

“You’re still at a good age… Why are you resigning from the Senate?”

    Anthony answered President Hearst’s question.

“Your health has not been very good and your youngest son has also been in critical condition recently. I think that is why you are having a hard time.”

“Then who will take that empty spot?”

“In our party James Zealot seems to be interested in this. And so is the governor.”

James Zealot is the man Rueff was pushing to be the next governor.

    A political figure as governor.

Anthony kept throwing this kind of advanced information at me.

“There is talk in the Democratic Party that Joseph R. Noland will run.”

    “Isn’t that a nonpartisan prosecutor?”

“I don’t know. I might join the Democratic Party this time.”

“That means he could run as a Republican candidate too.”

Anthony asked me pushing back his blond hair.

“Your Majesty what do you think? Who do you think will succeed Flint?

Anthony’s words should not be taken literally.

Someone who is likely to be my kind.

What this means now is who do you have in your heart?

“It’s going to be four years from now… I think it’s unreasonable to speculate from now on. Furthermore I’m a foreigner. Well I know a little about economics and diplomacy but when it comes to domestic politics in the United States I’m a newborn.”

    Anthony looked understanding.

As I said there are still 4 more years to go.

Four years is a long time so I think he intends to keep watching me a little longer.

“Your Majesty please tell us an interesting story.”

Hearst the head of the Hearst Media Group looked at me.

He’s spitting out such advanced information one by one and I have a look on my face like I have nothing to say.

“Everyone has told an interesting story… so I think I’ll share a story too.”

    “What are you talking about?”

“Do you know of any interesting places to invest?”

    Everyone pricks up their ears.

That’s understandable because people call me an investment genius.

Since there is no American who hates money they started to pay attention to what I was saying.

“Is there anyone who holds British bonds? If I were you I would sell all the bonds issued by Britain right now.”

    “Why do you say that?”

“It’s all because of the great earthquake here in San Francisco. Didn’t a lot of gold come out of here? England is suffering from a gold shortage because of it.”

Lloyd’s alone had poured $50 million worth of gold into San Francisco as insurance money.

Since even insurance with earthquake special provisions is providing compensation the amount of compensation for damages could increase to up to 90 million dollars.

A number of British insurance companies are supporting the evacuees with gold coins.

Britain will definitely take action next as it needs to replenish the gold that has been sucked into America.

“The Bank of England will raise interest rates soon.”

“Is this the Bank of England?”

    “okay.”

    “Hahaha. Hahahaha.”

Hearst began to laugh as if he had heard something funny.

“I have an acquaintance there but I have never heard anything like that.”

“I may not have as many connections as you but I am confident.”

    “Why do you say that?”

“Because there is a shortage of gold. There is only one way to recover it. The only way is to raise interest rates.”

When interest rates rise bond prices fall.

Conversely when interest rates fall bond prices rise.

    Basic financial knowledge.

There was no need for these people to explain this information so I quietly watched their reactions.

“When do you expect the Bank of England to make a move?”

“We will take some action by next month at the earliest or by the end of this year at the latest.”

    Everyone became quite serious.

    Well it’s about money.

‘I guess everyone has a little bit of British bonds.’

Well that’s because Britain is currently the world’s largest economy.

Moreover its financial system is much more advanced than that of the United States which does not even have a central bank yet.

“It’s about time I went. This is the last time I’ll wake up.”

I left out the main point.

I never predicted that the U.S. stock market would crash.

‘There’s no reason to say this. I’ll just skip it.’

    perhaps.

Even if we infer this based on information about the Bank of England’s move to raise interest rates it won’t make much of a difference.

The financial crisis that will hit next year will not be caused by external variables.

This is what happened when the problems of the outdated American financial system piled up and eventually exploded.

It is absolutely impossible to overcome this with the current system.

Unless an angel comes down from heaven and scatters wads of money many people will die in this rigid system.

“Okay let’s all take a look. I have a full house.”

    “this.”

    “The prince has won.”

“Damn I wish I could go back feeling good if I win at the end.”

I patted Hennie’s shoulder and comforted her.

“I heard you enjoy playing golf too. Let’s have a golf bet sometime.”

“Okay. I’m confident in playing golf though.”

    Me too.

The thing that I’ve been hitting so hard is the golf ball.

    “Let’s do that.”

I got up from my seat.

It’s almost time to go home.

    * * *

    “Your Majesty.”

    “What’s going on?”

I was trying to use the bathroom before going home when a musician playing the trumpet in the poker room approached me.

“Selena asked me to give this to the prince.”

    “Selena?”

Selena is a singer who was singing until an hour ago.

    ‘Central Hotel 207?’

What the trumpet player handed me was a hotel key.

The reason you asked me to tell you this is… probably for the same reason everyone thinks it is.

    “Boss what is that?”

    “Selena gave it to me.”

    “Selena?”

Aaron asked me with a surprised look on his face.

“Isn’t that girl famous for being arrogant? But Hotel Kirani?”

“Oh my prince you’ve bewitched another woman.”

    No way.

We’ve only really met eyes a few times.

‘That’s all I did earlier handing me a glass of water because I was thirsty and smiling as if I was having a hard time.’

Aaron and Max looked at me and asked where I was going.

“Boss. Are you going back home?”

“Well let’s stop by the Central Hotel before going home. Shouldn’t we find out why he gave me this?”

I kept grabbing and turning the key inside the moving carriage.

    * * *

After arriving at the hotel I went straight up to my room.

    “This is room 207.”

I put the key I received into the keyhole and it fits perfectly.

As I opened the door and went in the smell of perfume filled the hotel room.

    “This prince?”

Selena sipped wine in the bathtub striking a sensual pose.

    “Welcome.”

    “Nice to meet you.”

“I heard that Asians don’t have any hair on their chests armpits or groin. Is that true?”

    and.

A fastball hits right into my body.

“What do you think? Do you really believe those rumors?”

    Selena asked with a smirk.

“I don’t know so I thought I’d check it out myself. Would you like to come over here and wash together?”
