The Joseon Prince Went To America And Didn’t Return – 30

Boo- boo-
I took a ferry across San Pablo Bay with my group.
San Francisco Mayor Eugene Schmidt and California Governor George Pardee.
Because I had to travel to Sacramento the state capital of California to meet two big-time politicians.
‘The governor has officially invited me to his office.’
It was just as Choi Hyun-woo guessed.
The two politicians hosted a meeting in Sacramento on the topic of overcoming the disaster.
I guess they’ll probably give me an official plaque of appreciation on the spot.
I felt something boiling inside me.
‘Has it been about a year since I possessed this body?’
The power of the governor of California is similar to that of the leader of a small weak state.
Although it is a state belonging to the United States of America.
Today California alone has the fifth-largest economy in the world.
That means a single state is equivalent to the UK and France.
Moreover the governor is not just a head of an agency but is an official who exercises autonomy with great authority.
‘It’s going slowly.’
An achievement that has never been achieved in the history of Yuan Dynasty.
It is quite difficult for those in power to enter the public space.
So I was a little encouraged.
Because beginning is half the work.
“welcome.”
“It’s nice to see you again.”
As soon as I arrived George Pardee then governor of California came up to me and shook my hand.
“Thank you. As governor I can only say thank you for leading by example during these difficult times.”
“no.”

“I should have had a meal with the prince a long time ago.”
“It’s okay since you invited me here.”
San Francisco Mayor Eugene Schmidt who was standing next to the governor also paid tribute to me.
“Thanks to the prince helping me with my work… my shoulders feel much lighter.”
The two men mentioned my achievements one by one.
From relief work.
Fire suppression.
Donate temporary tents for the displaced to stay in.
And even the distribution of food they would eat in the beginning.
He praised me listing them one by one.
“I just did what I had to do.”
I was humbled by this.
“San Francisco and California are my second home and my second country. When my neighbors are having a hard time… how can I just pass by?”
“Haha. It’s as the rumors say Prince. You are the hero of this era.”
“Aren’t the mayor and the governor being praised by the media every day? There are articles about them every day for their quick response to problems such as reconstruction after the great earthquake.”
The media’s focus was strangely changing.
If the articles focused on me at first after a week they started to focus on the movements of the two people.
It can’t be helped because I am an individual and these are the heads of groups.
Since what I can do is extremely limited interest in me will gradually fade.
Of course I wasn’t upset at all.
Because excessive praise from the media can sometimes have adverse effects.
‘If you look at current public opinion these two are likely to be re-elected.’
Both the mayor and the governor currently enjoy enthusiastic support from the citizens.
Moreover California is a very Republican stronghold unlike in the 21st century.
With this in mind I continued my conversation with the two giants.
“Your Majesty we plan to present you with a plaque of appreciation tomorrow at our Sacramento office.”
George Pardee relayed to me what was expected.
“Oh my. What… It’s okay.”
“Excessive modesty is poison Your Majesty.”
“That’s right. In the East it might be right to act that way but it’s different here.”
Everyone was pressuring me as if I was thinking of refusing the plaque.
These people.
In the East it is said that you have to refuse three times.
“Haven’t you served the citizens? That alone is more than enough and now you’ve donated so much. Even though I can’t give you much I should at least give you this much shouldn’t I?”
I rolled my eyes.
This is to observe the facial expressions of the two politicians.
‘I don’t think this is why you called me… You’re being quiet.’

Are those two busy politicians meeting me just to give me a piece of paper?
well….
I expected that this meeting would have another purpose.
‘Is the purpose political donations?’
I haven’t met him many times but I don’t think his personality is that different from mine.
no.
Correct it.
The election is just around the corner.
During election season even the wisest of men can become distracted.
That’s why they can turn into crazy people at any time.
“Well I’ll gladly accept it. Come to think of it I don’t think receiving a plaque of appreciation would do much harm to the governor or mayor.”
“Good idea.”
George Pardee clapped his hands once and called attention to the matter.
Then he quickly turned his gaze slightly to the right.
As I turn my head to follow him a large door comes into view.
At first glance it seemed to be a conference room connected to the office.
“Now let’s get to the point. Actually Your Majesty we are planning to launch a special committee tomorrow.”
“What is a special committee?”
“This is a state-run committee to help rebuild San Francisco. Would you be interested in joining?”
I’m fine.
Being a member of the reconstruction committee will help me in many ways.
I can also watch the city’s new redevelopment projects and in the process insert laws or provisions that benefit me.
‘There is no reason to reject it since it is a temporary committee that has nothing to do with party affiliation.’
I blinked.
Rather than showing his joy right away he made a face like he had no choice but to accept it because you guys had asked him to do it for him.
That way they will feel like I am not owing them anything but rather helping them.
“In addition I would like to ask your highness to take on the role of Vice Chairman of the Reconstruction Committee.”
“Considering your past performance I should offer you the position of Chairman… But due to various internal circumstances I am offering you the position of Vice Chairman. Please accept it.”
It seems a bit burdensome to have a pure Asian as a representative on the state committee.
Well being Vice Chairman of the Reconstruction Committee isn’t a bad position for me.
It would be better than a regular member.
I accepted this too.
“Then please go in.”
These people.
He moves at breakneck speed as if he expected me to accept the position.
Squeak-
As I entered the conference room I saw the faces of several people.
Among them was Gold King Jack Milo famous for being a mine collector.
“Everyone please say hello.”
There were about 40 celebrities in the conference room.
They all seemed to be from California.
“When does the meeting start?”
A person raises his hand and asks a question.
At this George Pardee looked slightly embarrassed.
“The chairman hasn’t arrived yet. Please wait a little longer.”
“If you’re talking about the chairman then that person? That’s unexpected. He’s never been late for a meeting before…”
The mayor and the governor are whispering something and looking at their watches.
The meeting was delayed because of one guy.
“There’s nothing we can do. This prince will take the chairman’s place….”
Squeak-
The governor stopped speaking.
Because the conference room door was open.
“Oh you’re here? You’re late.”
“….”
Someone came into the governor’s office.
But something was a little strange.
If I was late for an important meeting I would have to apologize very much but my steps were so confident.
‘You’re showing that kind of attitude in front of these two? What’s your business?’
I squinted my eyes and looked at the gentleman who had perceived me.
“who?”
The man who was late to my short question also gave a very short answer.
“Abe Ruepra hao.”
As I was quietly staring Ruef opened his mouth with an arrogant expression.
“You are also the chairman of this disaster committee. I see you are this prince.”
* * *
“The chairman?”
“That’s right. Oh the meeting has already started? Is there anyone here who can give a brief explanation? As the chairman shouldn’t you know what was discussed here?”
dump-
Abe Lueff leaned back slightly in his chair his plump body leaning back as if he was annoyed.
There wasn’t even a formal greeting to me saying it was nice to see me for the first time.
That’s why the atmosphere in the office became tense in an instant.
“Hahaha. Your Majesty. This is Abe Rueff the California Republican Party Chairman and Nomination Committee Chair.”
“Iza is very shy so I hope the prince understands.”
Both are struggling.
Maybe it’s because it’s an election period but it seems like they’re paying a lot of attention to interest rates.
‘Judging from his expression it seems like Padi really dislikes Ruef…’
Governor Padi looked back and forth between me and Ruef then quickly changed the subject.
“Okay let’s start the meeting that was postponed. I hope you had a nice greeting.”
Mayor Schmidt then quickly continued with Padi’s words.
“Ah! Chairman. As I explained earlier the prince here has been elected as the vice-chairman of this special committee. Please introduce yourself prince.”
Abe Luef still looked at me with a fat look.
I’m not usually emotional but this bothered me a bit so I squinted my eyes and asked him.
“Do you not like me?”
He spoke directly without beating around the bush.
Abe Luef nodded and answered my question.
“exactly.”
“Why? Because I’m Asian?”
Abe Luef snapped his fingers without loosening his hard face.
“Do you think I’m a cheap racist? I don’t discriminate based on skin color. I only discriminate based on ability.”
“But why do you look at me so unfavorably? Do you think I’m incompetent?”
“Personal ability aside I’m saying this because I’m worried that you won’t be of any help in this election. The ability I’m talking about is only the ability to win an election.”
This is truly a politician-like answer.
‘You’re crazy about the table.’
Abe Luef leapt to his feet and addressed those gathered in the governor’s office in a loud voice.
“You pushed through something I opposed. How are you going to win the next election by making this decision? Tsk tsk.”
Abe Luef ran out of the office saying only what he had to say.
Even though he was the chairman I got the feeling that he had no interest in meetings.
The mayor of San Francisco followed him looking puzzled.
‘That rotten bastard.’
I feel like I want to hit you on the back of the head but I am a civilized person.
While quietly thinking about how to deal with that kid I tried to figure out why the author was so wary of me.
“Your Majesty the image of the Qing people has been very bad lately and it seems that Leader Luofu has become very sensitive.”
No fuck.
Why are you blaming me for the negative image of Chinese people?
I’m Korean!
‘Ah… Is it because my skin color and appearance are similar to those of Qing people?’
White people can’t tell the difference between Chinese Korean and Japanese.
like.
Just as Asians cannot tell the difference between British French and German people.
“Why has the image of the Qing people become so bad?”
“Please read this.”
Governor Pardi handed me a newspaper from a corner of the conference room.
【Koreans in San Francisco. Still leading survivor relief efforts on the streets.】
There was a very small article about Koreans.
But right next to it was a large negative article about the Qing people.
【Some illegal residents of the city hall burned down and used it to claim to be citizens. In particular many immigrants from the Qing Dynasty attempted to forge documents.】
Many immigrants from the Central Plains are illegal immigrants without citizenship.
They took advantage of this disaster to try to wash away their identities.
At the same time they were also embezzling the rations distributed to citizens.
‘Damn. The image of Asians has really gone to shit.’
China did China.
ah….
So that’s why immigration laws are being revised like this next year.
I vaguely thought it was because of racial discrimination.
I can understand why only the Japanese were exempted and the rest were slammed.
‘Because in the minds of Americans there are only two categories: Japanese or Qing.’
My head is spinning.
Still I’ve improved the image of Koreans so it’s like this.
If not I might have been hit by a rock while walking down the street by now.
“How tragic. There are those who seek to profit from this calamity.”
“That’s what I’m saying. Oh… Of course I know that the Koreans the prince belongs to are absolutely not like that.”
“Thank you.”
Governor George Pardee looked at those gathered in his office.
Then he carefully proposed to me again.
“I think the Prince will have to lead today’s meeting instead. Chairman Ruef has a temper…”
okay.
It would be a little more comfortable not to have meetings with that guy.
After accepting the governor’s opinion I began conducting the meeting.
Oh of course.
There was only one thing in my head.
I was wondering how to deal with Abe Luef.
‘I have an ominous feeling a feeling….’
Because I felt that if I left it alone interest would interfere with my plans.
