    Chapter Index

“It’s normal that you don’t know, the average herb picker probably wouldn’t be aware of the value of this item either.” Ursula explained, “Just by listening to the name you should know how dangerous the Mourning Grass is, don’t touch it with your hands, let me take it out for you.”

Ursula said as she searched for the right tool in the box, “The Mourning Grass …… may be very much needed by certain forces in Stormwind City, but my advice is not to get involved with them, and don’t let them think that you are able to help them find the Mourning Grass. Otherwise, you’ll have a lot more trouble moving around Stormwind City than you do now, Jace, you’re already one of us, so don’t carry another burden.”

“The MI7 guys aren’t considered particularly handy against groups like ours, because of their distrust of magic and therefore lack of relevant talent. But for roles like thieves, assassins, and killers …… Anyway, burn this grass.”

She had a long lever pliers in her hand, grabbed the edge of the broken bag, looked at Jess and said, “This isn’t your own bag, is it?”

“It’s the Jackal’s pack.” Jace said, “That’s the problem, Ms. Ursula Deering.”

Ursula asked, “You met the Jackal?”

Jace nodded and said, “Not only did I meet the Jackals, but I found their alchemy rooms, and in those alchemy rooms they were conducting some kind of experiments, there were a lot of dead fishmen, they were experimenting on fishmen, and I don’t think that the Jackal horde’s ultimate goal was just to poison those fishmen.”

Ursula asked, “You mean the Jackals want to poison Sentinel Ridge or Moonbrook?”

“Not sure yet.” Jace said, “Can you see what they intend to make by virtue of the herbs in these bags?”

Ursula flipped the herbs inside with her fork, shrugged, and said, “There are many possibilities, these herbs can be made into medicines that are very lethal to spell casters but do little damage to ordinary people, or they can be made into poisons that can be put into the water to pollute the water supply, all in all there seems to be something missing. There are mourning herbs here, tons of them, as well as stonecrops, quite a few weeds, magic royal herbs …… I can help you pick out all of these herbs that are related to making mana potions.”

“Thanks.” Jace handed the bag to Ursula and said, “Should I give this bag to the Wizard’s Sanctuary so they can report it to the King?”

“Even if you let the king know, what can that little brat do?” Ursula sighed and said, “Right now the war in the Red Ridge Mountains is tight, and I’ve heard through the grapevine that some jackalope warlocks attacked the stone fortress with dark magic just a few days ago, and Gagin is planning on going over there to see if he can get some clues to a new spell. Anyway, in this situation, how could the kingdom have any more troops to send to the western wilderness to hunt down a bunch of jackalope medicine men? There are already enough troops to escort Moonbrook Town, Sentinel Ridge to the Western Springs Fortress trade route.”

“Do you know about the new jackal leader over at the Western Springs, he’s rumored to have already taken out two mercenary squads, but aside from mercenaries, what else does the king have up his sleeve? If I had to guess he’s almost out of the ability to even hire outsiders to solve the crisis, right now Hogg’s bounty is only thirty silver coins, and that’s after it’s been raised, what kind of goods do you think thirty silver coins can recruit?”

Jace was still a bit moved when he heard 30 silver coins, but when he thought about the strength of the Hogg he encountered the other day, that heart was immediately immobilized.

With the few fights he had experienced, Hogg’s sheer strength far exceeded that of any ordinary jackal, far exceeded that of the elven ranger, and in Grid’s physical sense, Hogg was probably only slightly weaker than that shaman of the Red Ridge Mountains when he used the wind element to increase his power.

And given Hogg’s level of insanity and ferocity, that shaman probably wouldn’t even stand much of a chance against Hogg.

After all, an orc shaman using that kind of force needs to constantly communicate with the elements, and this is very energy consuming, and Hogg’s energy …… can be said to be profoundly low as the leader of a group like the Jackals that worships absolute violence.

Thinking about it this way, even someone like him would give up the 30 silver coins because of Hogg’s power, not to mention the stronger mercenaries, this bounty was indeed a little less.

He remembered what that king’s secretary Aryan had told himself when he was in Stone Castle that the treasury was now in great distress and could not take 10 gold coins to reward the heroes of Stone Castle, so maybe these 30 silver coins were taken unwillingly.

“Short of some silverleaf grass.” Ursula pressed her back and asked, “Are you going to buy it from me, or go out and get it?”

    “Just buy it from you.”

    “Four silver a pound.”

Jace remembered that the purchase price outside was 2 silver and 50 copper, and immediately asked, “Pit one of your own?”

Ursula smiles and says, “I’m guessing you sold herbs from that Lumir out there? You can buy them from her for more than I can here.”

Jace rubbed his forehead, he didn’t have much money left now, and it would be enough bleeding to buy some silverleaf grass the hard way.

“You do it for me first, how much silverleaf grass did you use, I’ll see about picking it up again to make up for you, what do you think?”

“Don’t drag it out too long.”

    “OK.”

“Right.” Ursula said, “What about the errand I asked you to run, how did you do, don’t tell me you didn’t even see the face of a fishman, ran into a jackal and ran back.”

“Fishman didn’t see it.” Jace pulled out the largest of the three scales Genri had brought and said, “But picked this up.”

“Naga’s scales!” Ursula asked, narrowing her eyes, “This …… is so beautiful.”

“Picked it up on the beach.”

Jess, of course, wouldn’t say he had another bag of the stuff at home.

But looking at Ursula’s appearance at the moment, he kind of regretted not bringing back Naga’s head, but the way that head looked at night at the time, he felt like his SAN value was about to fall empty.

Ursula took this scale and said, “This scale is an excellent frost magic enchantment material, Jace, the vestments made from it can increase frost protection and strengthen the affinity with the water element, increasing the power of the caster’s water magic. How much did you pick up?”

“Where’s the scale pickup?” Jess asked, “How much can I get for this piece?”

“This piece is in great shape.” Ursula says, “What do you say you give this to me and I won’t charge you for the silverleaf grass?”

Jace frowned and asked, “You’re not going to screw me over, are you?”

Ursula smiled and said, “This thing is rare, but the demand is not big, only those frost spell practitioners in the Witch Sanctuary use it, either to make poisons, and yes, this kind of thing has a certain degree of toxicity as well. You can hardly sell it for 10 silver coins even if you go out to sell it, I just …… need it for some recipe experiments that I am doing now. You just need to give it to me, I’ll help you make 6 bottles of mana potion, I’ll add the silver leaf grass that’s not enough for you, and I’ll send the remaining materials back to you, what do you think?”

    “Could be.”

“Come get your potion tomorrow morning, Jace.”

Out of the already slaughtered lamb, Jace has already planned to go to the tailor store in the mage district to ask, he has so many scales, although compared to this piece of large, intact not much, but …… even if each can only be sold for one silver coin, it is still thirty or forty silver heavenly price ah!
