    Chapter Index

Stepping outside, Jace looked at the pedestrians coming and going in the early morning, and noticed that the pedestrians in the mage district all seemed to have pretty much the same aesthetics, or follow a specific trend of blue, purple tunics or shorts, light-colored pants, and so on, and even if some of them weren’t quite the same, they weren’t too far off the mark.

And Jace’s well-worn linen shirt stood out a bit among the people coming in and out of the Wizard’s Sanctuary.

Since I’m going to hang out in the mage district, I might as well go ahead and buy a new outfit, if anything it’s not good to be treated like a thief in there.

Not far from the entrance to the mage district at the base of the city wall was a tailor’s store, an old oak tree at the entrance was about to grow with the stone wall, the shade of the tree blocked the second floor windows and blocked the tailor’s sign a bit as well.

But you can still read it clearly, it says “Duncan’s – Tailor Made Clothing”.

Jace had been to this one the last time he was looking for a job, and sure enough the red-haired owner frowned as soon as he walked in the door.

“Why you again, didn’t I tell you last time there was no work for you?”

“I’d like to see the clothes, sir.”

    “Uh, well, any requests?”

“What kind of clothes do mage assistants usually wear? Can you give me some recommendations.”

The owner raised his glasses, glanced at the ring on Jace’s hand, and said, “You’re asking too broadly, the assistant is not a mage or a mage apprentice, so feel free to mix and match to your own liking.”

Okay, okay got it, the assistant isn’t an apprentice or a mage, I can’t be carefully reminded of one thing by everyone I see in the mage section.

Muttering this in his mind, Jace glanced at the fabric spread out on the counter, and then at the clothes being sorted out by a couple of apprentice tailors not far away, hesitating slightly.

Most of the clothes here are made of high quality fabrics and are probably not cheap. But if you’re going to one of those stores, why don’t you just keep the clothes, since everyone will be wearing the same thing on the street at the construction site anyway?

He casually touched a light blue tunic that felt fairly good to the touch, but still seemed to be sewn from linen.

    “How much is this dress?”

“3 silver, sir, if you pay 4 silver you can have a custom set made to your size, very cost effective, you can pick it up the day after tomorrow.”

Hearing the price, Jace had frozen, but he also just said, “Sorry, I’m in a hurry.”

“So 3 silver coins and you can just take it, it’s pretty affordable.”

A broken linen dress cost this much? Jace glanced at him and then at the clothes laid out elsewhere, feeling that this was probably the cheapest thing in the store, and that the spending level in the Mage District really wasn’t quite right for his current financial resources.

“Truth be told, I’ve been entrusted with the clothes by my boss, and it doesn’t matter if I buy them myself or not.” He said stiffly, “So there are some specific requirements.”

    “I’m listening.”

“I need an enchanted tunic that has some degree of shadow resistance, preferably with flame resistance as well, otherwise the linen material is too easy to light on fire and is not conducive to combat.”

Jace paused for a moment, coming closer to his boss who was already shocked by the last sentence.

“You’ve heard about the Jackals entering the Aelwyn Forest again, right? The magic of the jackal warlocks is no joke, and I want to keep the master safe, so I have a high demand for quality. If it’s difficult, it’s fine, I’ll look elsewhere.”

The boss nodded slowly, then said, “Enchanted tunic, which requires shadow and flame resistance, is very demanding. It is best to use silk, silk is an animal product that is more easily compatible with arcane magic, and can utilize the power of the enchantment itself better than linen, I understand. I’ll get you one to look at ……”

You really do? This time it was Jace’s turn to freeze, he had only wanted to make an outrageous offer and then be rejected by the owner, and then leave this tailor store with dignity, however, he had overlooked the fact that this store was exclusively for mages.

So what should he ask for to make sure it’s not here? A full-body wrought armor engraved with a golden lion emblem, preferably with a shoulder armor of a metal dragon opening its bloody mouth?

The boss turned and ran into the basement as if he had a big client, the apprentices were looking this way because of the boss’s reaction, and Jace, who was about to bolt, was pinned in place by the flurry of eyes.

Not long after, the boss ran out carrying a beautifully decorated wooden box, the box alone was estimated to be too much to buy for the money that would be spent on chopping up Jace’s entire body and selling it by the pound.

The owner excitedly, tremblingly held the small brass key in his hand to unlock it, pinched the edge of the lid and lifted it a little, and a not-so-obvious air current surprisingly fluttered out of the box, blowing his hair and shaking him a little.

Isn’t that magic a little off the wall?

The box held a thin tunic that was pale purple in black, silk indeed, and beautifully sewn, the first time in his life he had seen sewing quality that rivaled the chemical fiber clothing he had seen in his last life.

“Dead Man’s Short Clothes.” The boss lowered his voice and said quietly, “The original stitcher of this garment was a renowned mage in Stormwind City, but he was actually practicing necromancy in secret, and in order to not let the necromantic energies injure himself, he used his magic to stitch this piece, which is inherently Shadow-resistant.”

Saying this, he raised his voice slightly, “The famous royal mage of the royal family, Alfred Van Buren, a high disciple of Master Nerath Elam, was its previous owner. In order to combat the flame magic of the orc warlocks, he personally attached flame resistance to this garment, making it just right for your requirements.”

By this point in the story, he had narrated it like a bard singing, “Except that Master Van Buren died in battle in the decisive battle of the Hills of Hillsbrad, and his grandson sold us this garment, and we changed it from a robe to a short coat when the destruction of the hem portion of the robe was said to have been due to the fiery flames of the Red Dragon.”

Hearing it now, Jess was dumbfounded.

After a long time, he somehow asked, “Didn’t you say he had flame resistance, how come he was burned by the red dragon, isn’t that false propaganda?”

“Even the strongest armor can’t stop a punch from a mountain giant na, sir.” The boss laughed bitterly.

Indeed it was so, and Jace added, “But that’s an unlucky name, and if I were its owner, wouldn’t that make me the dead?”

The owner sighed and said, “Honestly, that’s why it’s hard to sell this dress. But I can see that your boss probably has a limited budget for you, so this aspect is favorable for you instead! Since the name isn’t very catchy, we’ll give you a discount.”

    “How much?”

“Seven gold coins to take it down.”

    The Jays are so stupid.

“Indeed …… is indeed quite cheap.”

    “Right?”

“But I’m not authorized to make a decision on such a good thing, I’ll go back and ask the owner’s opinion for a price reference.”

“No problem, we’re always patient with our big clients.” The owner smiled and put the clothes away, cheering Jace out the door.

Leaving the tailor’s store, the sunlight stung a little.

Seeing a piece of clothing that could sell for up to 7 gold coins, Jace found it a bit hard to accept and much more sobering.

Since we’re strapped for cash right now, it’s better not to think about anything like changing clothes, rather than putting our feet up and taking care of the potion first.
