Chapter 83 – An Unexpected Quiz
by Jessie@AFNCC“The matter of the wetlands is not an immediate decision, it is still up to those above the Sorcerer’s Temple, Andromas.” Marin licked his fingers and flipped the book in front of him and said, “Now, why don’t we talk about your light spell, Mr. Sesso.”
“Ah …… light magic.” Jace replied, “I practiced it on my own a few times yesterday, but just like you said, I have limited energy and I don’t really dare to continue practicing after I feel tired, so I wanted to get some spirit replenishing potions to give myself a boost.”
“Practicing with mana potions?” Marin’s turned his head and said, “Do you have too much money to spend?”
Hearing Marin say that made Jace a little heartbroken.
What’s so expensive about mana potions? Could it be that the materials were expensive? It was logical that the Magic Emperor Grass that could be collected in the western wilderness shouldn’t be particularly expensive.
As for silver leaf grass …… that is not everywhere? The last time I went out with Grid to the Twilight Forest, I casually stepped on some, and then when I went to the river bank to hunt wolves, I also saw some, and if I hadn’t brought a big herb bag, I probably would have had to bring some back with me.
Shinan grass …… also seems to be something you can buy a plant for 2 or 3 silver coins.
Is it a pharmaceutical bottle?
“Are mana potions expensive?” Jace asked tentatively.
Marin said, “The materials aren’t cheap, but they aren’t the point of the price, the trouble is the method of making them. Most of the potions that quickly restore your spirit need an extremely skilled alchemist to make them, are you sure you can manage it on your own? No matter what I won’t help you get it, having a reward is also impossible, now at this age my eyes aren’t working very well for some, and then going to melt those medicines I guess I won’t be able to walk before I take the test, my eyes will go blind first.”
Jace said, “So that’s how it works, but I’m always going to try it myself and work on my alchemy skills in the meantime.”
“That’s quite reasonable.” Marin said, “Practicing pharmacy with potions that don’t have expensive ingredients but are difficult to refine in a way that’s not expensive is a good way to improve your skills.”
If that’s the case, why is Ursula Deering willing to help herself to free medicine?
Thinking back to Gagin’s conversation with Galdus earlier, it was mentioned that Ursula had her value in staying with the slaughtered lamb, and perhaps that was her value.
With her superior alchemy skills in exchange for unconditional spell-sharing from others, she was able to practice pharmacy on the one hand with the herbs provided by others, and practice shadow magic on the other, and had a place where she could find a place to belong.
Since making mana potions was so technical, he didn’t have that feeling of being whored out for nothing when he went to accomplish what Ursula had entrusted to him.
While Jace was rambling, Marin asked, ”So, you’re planning to pick up the medicine yourself? Usually new apprentices will choose the most elementary spirit recovery medicine, and it usually requires the use of the Magic Royal Grass, right? There are a lot of Magic Royal Grasses in the western wilderness, and when I was young I often followed the alchemists in the academy to go over there. I see that you seem to have something to say all the time, is it that you want to go over there to take a look?”
“There is such a plan.” Jess said, “I was planning on taking a vacation.”
Marin said, “There’s really no need to take a vacation, after all, you won’t be an assistant past noon. As long as you can complete the tasks I’ll order you to do later as required, you won’t have to work here every morning, just come to class according to the schedule and divide the rest of the time amongst yourself.”
“Are magic classes scheduled like orcish language classes?” Jace asked.
“No.” Marin said, “Each course is usually only one a week, as it’s important to leave enough time for students to practice and interact with each other, and the magic courses aren’t scheduled as tightly as the humanities and social sciences or language classes, though it’s a different matter altogether if you’re planning on specializing in Alchemy, Enchanting, and so on, which are more course-intensive subjects. Anyway, you’ll find out when the time comes.”
“I pretty much get it.” Jace said, “By the way, Maestro, I have one more thing, at the end of the year for Winterfest I’m planning to make a trip back to Lordaeron to meet my parents, is there any chance ……”
“Set you up on a business trip to Dalaran, right?” Marin looked up as if he’d thought of it.
Jace laughed as Marin said, “Honestly, there aren’t really any errands at the moment that require a trip to Dalaran at the end of the year. I also don’t know if there will be any sudden assignments from the Sorcerer’s Sanctuary after a while. But what is certain is that I know that your orcish language teacher, Master Dushan, has an opportunity to go to Dalaran at the end of the year for an orcish language learning exchange, and if you can get that opportunity, he will reimburse you for the cost of going to Dalaran.”
“Huh?” That didn’t occur to Jess, “How do I get that chance? Mr. Duchamp didn’t even mention it.”
“It’s simple.” Marin said, “Getting first place on the Orcish language test on Tuesday afternoon, November 12th, I figured I’d get my chance anyhow. The reason he didn’t mention it must have been because he didn’t want any trouble. A lot of the mages here would like to travel to Dalaran for free, and would surely approach him privately when they found out, and that Duchamp guy is a man who is afraid of trouble. I’ll already upset him by telling you this.”
“In that case.” Jace frowned, “Let me take first place in a group of people who’ve been studying for a while? And with only a month left, am I supposed to grab an orc to learn a foreign language?”
Marin said, “It’s up to you, I’m not an expert in orcish. Otherwise, you come here every morning and I’ll cast an Arcane Wisdom spell on you to help you slightly. But if you do that every day you’ll probably have a split personality in two weeks and gradually start to resent the stupid, slow-reacting version of yourself that you were after the magical effects wore off.”
“Is Arcane Wisdom still this scary?” Jace stammered, “Let’s forget about it, but Master, can you reveal some of the content of the exam ah and so on?”
“It’s not a math test, so even if I did know, there’s no point in revealing it to you.” Marin said, “The language exam is just those things, translating articles, giving reports, writing, and answering questions. Based on the two previous exams that Master Dushan had organized, I think this one should be no exception, it should be just for you to write an article in Orcish that has something to do with the Stormwind Kingdom, or the problems within the Alliance, give a live report, and then he’ll ask some relevant questions. Of course, the focus of the examination is the ability to understand and utilize the language, don’t care how in-depth or reasonable your essay is.”
It’s true that if you take this kind of test, it doesn’t do any shit to reveal it, and at the end of the day you still have to create it yourself.
It was a headache to think about, how could this stand out from all those people and gain the qualification to represent the Sorcerer’s Sanctuary to Dalaran to exchange orcish language learning?
A month, you can only pick up time ways to learn more and practice ah.
