    Chapter Index

The king’s speech that followed was hardly listened to at all by Jess.

He was going to actually enter the Sorcerer’s Sanctum, not as a fringe assistant, but as an apprentice, and it could be said that he had actually entered the ranks of the mages, even though he had not yet perceived the magic web, and even though he did not know any of the arcane magic, but at least in name ……

In fact, mages were reluctant to recruit older people who lacked talent, mainly because they didn’t want to waste resources, and it wasn’t completely impossible to learn magic beyond the teenage years.

There was so much useful arcane magic, such as water and food making, invisibility, and even teleportation magic …… Of course, he didn’t expect to learn teleportation magic anytime soon.

Offensive magic, he could make up for it by using Shadow, and exercising martial arts. And by specializing in one or two functional spells in arcane magic, without having to learn too much, there would be a qualitative change in one’s combat prowess.

Moreover, in the Sorcerer’s Sanctuary, and even in the future, if he could have the opportunity to enter Dalaran, Jace believed that he could learn the principles of how the energy of this world worked in a deeper way, and might be able to minimize the negative effects of the Shadow energy on his body and spirit, which was also one of his main purposes.

After the meeting was adjourned, he heard a number of compliments about him on the way back to his room, and everyone was in a state of euphoric joy at having won and survived the battle, and having been inspected by the king.

But in reality, because the fight was so dark that night, Jace was still feeling a little embarrassed.

Is bravery inspired by those Shadow powers considered true bravery?

Returning to the window, Jace turned over the soles of his shoes, which still had some scorched marks on them from the Shadowfire that had been burned from the corpse.

Will those jackalope corpses …… who dispose of the bodies discover the Shadowfire?

What will Morgans think when he sees the jackals who are being scorched to death by the unseen flames?

“I killed those jackals …… with a sword that was set on fire by a jackal warlock,” he murmured in a low voice to himself, as if practicing to excuse himself in advance.

    “Jace Sesso.”

Hearing a voice behind him, Jace jerked back.

Yet it was Colonel Todman, yes, Morgans was already in a hurry to get back to Stormwind and shouldn’t be here.

“You did well today boy, you’re the first person I’ve ever seen who dared to hit the king in the chest with his head, hahaha!” Toddman said laughing out loud.

The corner of Jace’s mouth twitched.

“No need to be so nervous.” The colonel patted Jace’s shoulder and said, “It’s normal for young people to feel nervous in a scene like that, I see that the king is even more nervous than you na. When do you plan to go back? You can stay here as long as you want, the king might even stay here for a day or two to see how our training is going.”

“I have business at the Wizard’s Sanctuary.” Jace tied the package tightly and said, “I’ve got another friend in Lakeside, he got hurt the other day and I’m going to go check on him.”

The Colonel pointed downstairs and said, “It just so happens that there’s a patrol leaving soon now, will you follow them to Lakeside?”

“Okay, great.” Jace said, “I’ll get the horses, please wait a moment for me.”

Jace couldn’t wait to get out of this place, to get away from those jackalope corpses.

In the afternoon, Jace followed a patrol from Stone Castle back to Lakeside, just after arriving in Lakeside Jace went straight to the herbal clinic, however halfway there he saw a familiar shadow on the dock.

    “How …… you …… Griddle?”

At the sound of Jace’s voice, Grid turned back and asked, “Where have you been?”

Seeing him sitting there in full whiskers, Jace could barely contain his inner excitement, when before it had clearly looked as if he was going to die.

“That pharmacist said you might be out for a while longer.”

“Looking down on who?” Grid laughed out loud and said, “It’s just being electrocuted, it’s not like I’ve never been electrocuted before. I’m a Griffin Knight, and my own hammer is the Hammer of Electricity blessed by the Sages, what does he take me for?”

“That’s great.” Jace said, “Now you can pay me back for my medical bills, 3 silver coins, I’m going to run out of money for dinner.”

“You haven’t paid for your sword lessons yet, my old man.” Grid said calmly, “Besides 3 silver coins which is not enough, I made up some of my own, do you think I can’t touch money like you poor man? Though we have left Ironforge now, we have not lost a single one of the finest qualities of the dwarves.”

“Where’s the money if your bag is gone?”

“Who puts all their money in a bag? Wouldn’t a thief take it and go straight back to poverty?”

Jace glanced into Grid’s shoes and asked, “You don’t mind the knock?”

“Who said it was in the shoe? It’s a secret.” He glanced sideways at Jace and said, “Speaking of which, I heard the Apothecary say you were going back to Stormwind, and I thought you had already gone back.”

“There was a two-day delay on the stone fortress.”

Jace sat down next to him, and Grid saw the bandage on his hand and asked, “What, not learning from the mage from Stoneforge who beat you on the palm like that?”

“Why do you have such a big brain?” Jace shook his head and said, “Jackals sneak up on the castle at night and it just so happened that I ran into them, call me unlucky.”

“Did you use any of the sword making techniques I taught you?” Grid said, “I guess not at all, you sure made a big use of dark magic and stirred the place up without me around!”

Jace asked, “And will I come back alive? The soldiers there won’t behead me as an orc?”

Grid stared into his eyes, licked his teeth and said, “That’s true.”

Jace clutched the warlock’s sack to his chest and said, “Anyway, I survived, and the commander of the stone fortress thinks I defended the castle and told the king about it in passing!”

“What?!” The dwarf yelled, “The day before yesterday, the king passed by Lakeside Town and went to Stone Castle, could it be that the road jackals were involved? What kind of an attack was that, that could even startle that little king.”

“What did you expect?” Jace gave a smug laugh and said, “He promised to go back and help me get into the Wizard’s Sanctum and become a true mage.”

Grid shouted, “And you’re a real mage? You’re on the wrong side of the road!”

“You keep your voice down!” Jess emphasized.

“Row row.” Grid let out a long sigh and said, “Seconds, why can’t I meet such a good thing, let the human king reward me with a few pieces of broken gold!”

“How dare you mention it?” Jace asked, “Who lied to me about how I was sure I wouldn’t run into any difficult quests, and who told me I could split a dozen silver coins for going to an orc mage with you? Who took one electric shock and fell to the ground and couldn’t get up, and ended up having to bring you all the way back to Lakeside by myself from further east than the lumberyard? Why do you think you didn’t get such a good share?”

Knowing that he was in the wrong, Grid laughed nervously and said, “I’m really sorry, that orc, indeed, was a bit too powerful.”

After saying that, his face changed as if he remembered something and asked, “By the way, how did you defeat him?”
