    Chapter Index

The Kid quickly recited a spell, and the jackal’s body instantly burst into flames.

The jackal didn’t back down after he wailed and screamed, but instead became even more maniacal as he screamed and swung his bat again, Jace lifted his sword and deflected the bat away to the side, only for the slightest of plucks to jolt his entire right bladder into unconsciousness, the sword wobbling as it fell to the ground.

The jackal fighter saw Jace’s weapon come off and laughed as he was just about to swing his club at Jace’s head when Jace quickly unleashed a fear spell, only to see the jackal’s smile disappear on the spot, froze, and his shoulders shook twice, as Jace pulled his gajin’s dagger from behind his waist and stabbed the other man’s jaw from underneath, instantly piercing through his mouth from the side of his lip.

Jace pulled his dagger out and plunged it back into his opponent’s eye socket!

The two stabs were so fast that the jackal suddenly snapped out of the shock he had just felt, and tumbled off the wall with a yell of pain, yet Jace hadn’t had a chance to pull out the dagger that was stuck in his eye socket.

    “My …… this!”

That dagger could still be worth a lot of money.

He saw the jackal fall into the forest as another pair of demented and dull eyes on the near wall looked up from below to see him again.

    “Ah!”

The Kid yelled and Jace looked back only to see a jackal covered in fire had grabbed Saeuno and lifted him up, Jace picked up his longsword and rushed over with an arrow to chop the jackal’s arm off, smothering the side of the face with his foot to kick it off the wall.

The Kid shook off the Jackal’s claws and yelled excitedly, “Master still cares about me, Master doesn’t want me to die!”

“Watch where you’re going!” Jace yelled, yet the jackal that had just stared at him had already pounced.

As he watched the jackals climb up the sentry tower wall in packs, with Jace and Saeuno both unlikely to be able to hold them back anyway, Saeuno suddenly chanted an entirely different spell.

A burst of combustion exploded from Jace’s right hand, and he realized that his sword was actually ablaze!

“Master you’re fortified, get on with it!” Saeuno giggled strangely.

    Reinforcement?

After the sword burned, the infection did swell an inexplicable courage in Jace’s heart as well.

The fire whimpered and burned brightly, but as he watched, he felt as if he could see the souls beating inside.

Gripping the hilt of his sword with both hands, Jace rushed to the two jackals in front of him and swung with such force that the one behind him was so startled by the blazing fire that he actually toppled over again as soon as he retreated.

Some of the jackals tried to come around the back, and Jace turned and swung at them again, and these jackals who had just come up were immediately startled and retreated several steps back until they were leaning against the wall.

They seemed to be quite fearful of the roaring flames, never daring to approach. Even those who were still approaching this way were hesitant at the moment.

Jace knew why; these fires were not ordinary fire elementals, but tainted fires, manipulated and inspired by the forces of the Unseen.

And I’m afraid that the courage that came out of him so violently just now wasn’t some kind of courage that erupted when facing an enemy, but rather the chaos and regicide brought about by the flood of demonic power.

Every time he swung the sword in his hand, he could hear the flames scraping the air with a wailing, strange sound, and the imp behind him kept igniting the jackals, who were already feeling fearful, with sacrifices, adding to the eerie atmosphere at the top of this sentry tower.

Somehow, he wanted to embrace the madness.

Because these jackals wanted to finish him off, wanted to strangle him with ropes, wanted to chop off his arms and legs, and skewer him with an iron bar straight from his mouth to his back, to roast him and eat him.

They want to take the Stone Fortress over, and they want to finish off all the humans here.

And Jace would never allow it.

He would kill these monsters, burn their hides and chop their arms and legs to pieces, these half-dogs, half-humans who thought they were so smart they didn’t deserve to live.

A wave of hatred surged and raged from within, eyeing these humanoid monsters with foolish eyes, deformed limbs, and extremely uncoordinated movements, as if they were a bunch of utter mistakes that had been hybridized for some twisted reason. He raised his longsword, the fire on it surging to the point where it was like a searing gale surrounding his body, even the excited cries of the little kids were drowned out by the cries emitted by the evil fire.

The storm of flames gradually darkened from its originally bright color, glowing red and transmitting an eerie purple aura.

    “Death to all!”

Jace’s speed was so fast that even he couldn’t believe it himself, a sword poked directly into the brain of a jackal, the jackal’s head in a burst of exciting la la frying sound of skull burst, soup splattered, Jace pulled the sword out horizontally, and slashed directly into the shoulder of another jackal, the sword all the way into the chest, the charred smell of blood and flesh filled the nostrils.

“You tried to kill me, didn’t you, and now who’s dead? Where are your heads? Where are your arms and legs?”

Jace kept repeating the shouts, and in three or two strokes, he hacked the jackals that had already climbed up into a mess of rotten flesh and charred ash, and swung his sword an unknown number of times in succession until he could no longer see anything standing even when he looked back and forth, and his feet were already covered with shredded flesh and severed limbs, and the jackals’ wails of fear were unceasing.

Everything seemed to be quiet again.

At that moment, Jace heard noisy hoofbeats coming from far away, and the blowing of a horn overpowered all the jackals’ strange cries.

The monsters retreated, fleeing like mad, some even jumping right off the walls into the forest in fear, and a few of the jackals in front of Jace fled along with them, who were already on the verge of collapse. They must have fled in fear of those cavalry, of the return of the main force of the stone fortress, so Jace told himself so.

The body parts, severed limbs, and half-remaining jackal carcasses in front of him were all burning with black and reddish evil fire.

He rushed up and kept stomping and stomping until he had stomped out all these fires, yet at this point there was only one word left in his head – Shadow Blaze.

    Is this Shadow Flame?

    Theoretically, no.

Shadow Blaze is the black dragon’s spit, a hot lava spewed out by the black dragon tainted by shadow energy.

And how could he, who was nothing more than an ordinary human, and Saurono, who was just a weak demon, create such an evil fire elemental catastrophe?

A simple guess would be that the Kid had ignited his sword, and the Shadow within him had contaminated the Kid’s evil fire, eventually creating a Shadow Fire similar to a black dragon’s spit.

But before he had time to consider the maneuverability of this, he felt tired and bloated.

After all, his body simply couldn’t withstand this kind of furious battle, and this was just a short time of overdraft.

“Master?” Saeuno asked tentatively from behind, and Jace held his forehead as he looked back at the brat, not that he’d ever seen the other man look so careful. He leaned back against the pallet wall, his skin all over his body somehow surfaced with some blood either visible or dark, his brain buzzing with the beat of his heart.

Suddenly there was a searing pain in his right hand, so painful that the sword fell out of his hand and dropped to the ground. Somehow the sword had burned black and curved, and even the crossguard had been burned out of shape, scalding his index finger and tiger’s mouth.

Jace watched the patch of skin on his hand gradually discolor under the corrosion of this Shadow, and he fumbled with his clothes, trying to get something to bandage it, and realizing that this Shadow burn wouldn’t work even with a bandage.

“Master, take it and give it to me to drink!” The little ghost carried a bottle of Shadow Protection Potion in his hand and said, “Just this one, master!”

Jace snatched the vial to take a mouthful and leaned back against the wall, the sourness in his throat instantly clearing his head more times than he knew what to do with.

The sharp pain of the Shadow Corrosion on his hand eased a lot, and the evil fire that was burning from his chest was extinguished a little bit.

Despite the ongoing damage being dissipated, the burn marks that had been inflicted on his right hand were not restored.

He stared blankly ahead until the blazing night cooled and the sounds of people in the stone fortress gradually drowned out the jackal’s strange cries.

    “Did you send the signal?”

Jace snapped his head up and somehow he had several soldiers standing in front of him and the Kid was gone.
