Chapter 32 – The Acumen of the Holy Light
by Jessie@AFNCCThe two men crossed the crowd to the basement, where the priest pulled Jace to an unoccupied area, held out his hand, and held out a golden spot of light in front of Jace’s eyes.
When this spot of light shone on his body, Jace felt his heart shrink violently, both eyes were blinded by a burst of white light, he subconsciously took a few steps back and leaned against the wall, gasping for breath, and waited for the light to go out, and it took a long time for him to regain his senses.
“Indeed, it is characteristic of the early stages of undead rotting poison, what is your name, sir?”
“Jace Sesso.”
“Mr. Sesso.” The priest said, “Next I’m going to purify you, the process may be painful, you’ll feel like your body is being seared by fire, but it’s a necessary process to purify the necrotic poison from your body. You’re a little late to the party, and if it doesn’t go well you may have to go through multiple purifications ……”
“Let’s try one first.” Jace said.
The priest nodded and said, “Take off your shirt.”
Jace took his shirt off and hung it off to the side, the pastor put his hand on his chest and slowly closed his eyes, Jace suddenly asked, “There’s no charge, is there?”
“The only requirement is that you need to be hopeful and trust us throughout the process, sir.”
“Will it help the Holy Light to work in me if I think positively in my mind?”
“Of course it helps.” The priest slowly opened his eyes and said, “Many people don’t believe in the Holy Light, don’t think that warm, positive attitudes can make the Holy Light bring a stronger response …… but they believe that negative, depressive thoughts, or emotions of fear and despair can inspire the Shadow and give rise to the power of darkness, isn’t that a contradiction?”
Despite having lived in Azeroth for so many years, Jace had absolutely no clue as to how Holy Light could heal injuries, so it could be said that there was all sorts of skepticism in his heart about what the priest was going to do next.
It was just that his past experience had taught him again to trust the advice of professionals no matter what, and since the priest had made a pretty good point, he’d just try to do it that way.
Not to mention, Jace didn’t have any money to buy Elemental Earth and couldn’t buy it, so there was no need to think about nourishing potions. The fastest, most effective and cheapest way to heal now was to ask the Church of Holy Light.
Of course, he did have hope in his heart.
After all, this time he is not a person to petition the holy light, there is a priest in front of him to help him …… The holy light is impossible not to respond.
With that in mind, he closed his eyes and gradually felt his chest heat up and burn.
The priest whispered under his breath, “Holy Light of Mercy, I pray that you release this brave young man from this pain that has come upon him and free him from the entanglements of the dead, and that I will be with him in this ordeal. Thank You for the Holy Light that enables me to defeat his fear and pain, and thank You for the Holy Light that enables him to defeat his own fear and pain. You have seen him come to Your sanctuary for help, does that mean he is on the right path? I trust him and know that he will see the light and witness ……”
I don’t know how long it took to read it, but she started repeating it from the beginning again, and Jace’s pain slowly deepened.
Jace of course knew that priests and paladins had the ability to cure the poison of the dead, so there was no doubt or resistance. It was only after a while that he felt more and more that something was wrong with the sizzling in his chest, as if it was gradually heating up and never ending.
Little by little this heat spread throughout his body, his limbs, and he began to feel as if he were being tortured and punished, bound to some chair or board to suffer endless brutality, and the holy light was the whip, the poker, the spikes.
“It hurts ……” In his disorientation he subconsciously asked for help, “I don’t think I can take it, Reverend.”
“I will be with you during this ordeal.” The priest opened her eyes, and Jace saw in the afterglow that her eyes were firm and hot.
A sudden burst of fiery inflammation from his heart rushed up to his head and Jace let out an uncontrollable cry the whole thing practically jumped and crashed against the wall breathing heavily.
The walls, the air became cold and damp, and all of a sudden it was so cold that it was shivering, and he casually grabbed the shirt he had just taken off and wrapped it around him, but it was no more than a drop in the bucket.
Soon enough, however, he realized that his view of his surroundings wasn’t as stimulating, the trance-like feeling of dizziness swept away.
He looked at his skin, and the veins that had been blackened and purple before had lightened.
“I feel a lot better.”
While rejoicing, Jess realized that the priestess looked more serious than she had a moment ago.
Could it be that the treatment didn’t work as well as he thought it would?
“Is something wrong?”
The priest said grimly, “It’s much better than expected, which means that you have been blessed by the holy light …… It’s just that the holy light is willing to heal you, but it’s hard to light your way forward, Mr. Sesso.”
“I don’t really get it.”
Jace didn’t know what the pastor was trying to say, but he did guess what was probably going on with those two paragraphs.
Maybe he hadn’t been exposed to Warlock magic, to Shadow and Evil energy yet, but Holy Light had sensed his inclination.
If that’s true, this holy light is really something.
The priestess admonished in a thin voice, “I am limited in my ability to decipher what the holy light is showing me. But I would like to try to express its wish – whatever choices you make in the future, always remember to stay true to your heart and do not deviate from your original intention.”
“I’ll remember that.” Jace promised, but he didn’t take anything seriously to memorize.
After all, he had heard similar words countless times before, in his last life since he was a child, his teachers, his parents, his leaders, had all told him. But he didn’t know what his heart was, or what his original intention was, so he didn’t have the heart to scrutinize what they were trying to say.
After thanking the pastor and leaving the building, it was drizzling outside.
The King’s procession had dispersed, the nobles and guards of Church Square had left, and the crowd had resumed moving in and out, and some were sheltering in the holes in the walls where they had entered Church Square talking and taking shelter from the rain in the meantime.
Walking back, Jace looked at the canals parting in front of him, one heading in the direction of the Storm Fortress to Stormwind Harbor, and one rushing towards the sewers leading out of the city, and inexplicably, he remembered the priest’s words from earlier.
The energies of the World of Warcraft, whether they are Holy Light, Shadow, Evil Energy, or Arcane, Necromantic, or Nature’s Power, all affect the user’s mind, and even their personality, to a greater or lesser extent.
And of these, Shadow and Evil Energy are the most influential, with the user inevitably tending towards paranoia, rage and suspicion, doubting everything around them, hating everything around them, and ultimately dragging themselves into an abyss of misery along with their near and dear ones.
However, how many people learn these powers all with the original intention of becoming saviors, to defeat the evils that they can’t defeat on their own, to make the world a better place.
Including him, who had wanted to go down the path of black magic before, in order to prove himself, in order to have more power, in order to survive and live a better life in this city.
But isn’t that the first step in the life of every tragic character in World of Warcraft?
He never thought about the consequences of taking control of these powers, how he would sustain himself after possessing these extraordinary energies, and how he would return if he did go to an unpredictable place.
Jess looked back at the small building off the church square, its shadow blurred in the rain. The priestess had just stepped out of the door with a group of priests when she noticed herself over here and stopped to stare as well.
It was a little cooler, as if it was about to be fall, and Jace wrapped his ragged shirt tightly around himself.
Going to the thought of deterioration due to power now seemed a little too worrying, after all, he didn’t know any spells yet.
But it was better to realize now that problems awaited him than to have everything spiral out of control and come to his senses in irretrievable pain.
With that thought in mind, Jace nodded to the priest, who nodded back in response and left with his coworkers.
