Chapter 219 Additional value
by Jessie@AFNCCAfter emerging from the slaughtered lamb, it was still early enough that there weren’t even many people around the Sorcerer’s Sanctuary yet.
Jace clutched his cloak as he made his way to Larson’s costume store, which had only just opened a short time ago.
He took a few breaths, forgetting the image he had just seen in the basement walked through the door, leaned over the counter and set his cloak on top and said, “Mr. Larson, could you please help me see how much it would cost to fix this?”
“Ha, I recognized you when I saw this thing, I remember you.”
Larson lifted his cloak up and shook it off, surveyed it, and sucked in a breath.
“Young man, did you fight a dragon?”
Surprised, Jess asked, “How did you know?”
Larson squinted and said, “I’m just exaggerating.”
“It really is a dragon ……” said Jace, “I made a trip to Lordaeron and met the dragon, sir, and if it hadn’t been for this cloak I would have been dead.”
Larson asked again, “Is this scorch mark really from the dragon flame spitting out?”
“Yeah.” Jace said, “Did you hear about the dragons all over the continent of Lordaeron?”
“I have heard something.” Larson nodded and said, “I thought it was a rumor. holy light ah …… This scorch does reduce the magical properties of the cloak a bit, but I wouldn’t use magic to get rid of this scorch if I were you.”
“Why?” Jess asked.
Larson moved closer and sniffed the area of the cloak’s scorch marks and said, “As many elven tailors know, dragon flames, whether it be a black or red dragon scorched things have a special smell that won’t dissipate for a long time, and while I haven’t smelled exactly what something that has been scorched by a black dragon smells like, there’s a smell of smoldering fire dragon’s skin or any leather that doesn’t come with a the fishy smell, somewhat close to the smell of corroded Shadow energy, but not exactly the same, is this the smell left behind by the Black Dragon’s flames?”
“I think so, those in Lordaeron who have fought the Black Dragon say so.” Jace asked, “Is there any particular use for this flavor?”
“Of course there is, I still use the red dragon as an example.” Larson said, “For humans this smell can be clearly felt, for other animals such as coyotes, wild bears …… it is even more so. The fear of the dragons is engraved in their ancestral bones, once they smell this smell, they will be afraid, and even run away, only those very powerful, or lowly monsters without any intelligence to speak of don’t hide from the scent of the black dragon.”
“And that effect?”
Jace cupped the edges of his cloak in surprise, not that he felt any feelings of fear or anything like that, but he couldn’t have money to spare since the owner of the clothes seller had said so, could he?
“Take a step back.” Larson said, “Why remove the battle scars of having fought a black dragon? This cloak must be more expensive now than when it was first made!”
“That’s true, I hadn’t thought about it that way.” Jace asked again, “But just how much less resistant will it be against flames than it was before? After all, I still need it to protect myself, and without this cloak, I’d probably be burned beyond all recognition by now.”
Larson scrutinized it and said, “It requires specific testing to conclude, do you need to stay with me for a few days to determine that? I’m guessing it won’t be less than 80%.”
“Want money?”
“Of course, I’m going to have an enchanter look at it.”
“Forget it then.” Jace took the cloak and said, “My vestments burned out too, and I need money for another set ……”
Although when Jace didn’t have any money, he always thought that when he had money he must acquire better magical equipment, more powerful magical weapons and whatnot to deal with those various demons and monsters out there.
But now that he was actually holding several gold coins in his hand, he felt like he wasn’t spending money with as much panache as when he only had a few dozen silver coins in his hand.
After all, once you see a little hope of being able to buy a house, you always feel that you should save up a little bit.
James Larson asked, “Are you planning to order it now?”
“Is it in stock, sir?”
“There are, but there aren’t always ones for your height …… How tall are you? 6 feet?”
“I don’t know, last time I was measured here but I wasn’t told the exact size.” Jace said the last time he knew his height Jace was 15 years old and now he didn’t know how much he had grown.
“I’ll measure again then.” Larson pulled out a tape measure and measured, saying, “Between 5’8″ and 9″.”
That’s about 5’72” to 5’75”, which means Jace is on the verge of surpassing the size he was in his last life.
“How old are you, sir.”
“Eighteen, ten days to eighteen to be exact.” Jess said.
“There are still long ones, sir, why don’t I pick one out for you by 10 inches?”
“Ok, thanks Mr. Larson.” Jace said, “I’d like a sturdier one this time, with a budget of about 20 silver coins, and not one that’s too long to move around easily.”
Larson thought for a moment and said, “It just so happens that I have a set of combat mage robes of about the same size here, they are a bit sturdier than normal apprentice robes, but because of the simpler style, they don’t look any different from normal mage robes, although they are long, the hemline opens up a bit higher, in order to make it easier for the combat mages to move around, would you like this one?You can take it for 18 silver coins. “
“The downside is that you’ll need to have another robe for summer wear after spring, sir, because this one does seem slightly thicker, and even if you don’t wear a shirt underneath it, it’ll be hotter in the summer.”
Jess considered for a moment and said, “Better take one that will last a whole year.”
“Wait a minute then, I’ll go look for it with you.”
Larson went to the back, and Jace looked at his pocket watch, thinking if only he could have gone to registration yesterday in his new clothes; would this old shirt on him make a big difference in the first impression of his future new classmates?
Thinking of this Jace couldn’t help but have to shake his head, as a powerful caster who had slain dragons in Lordaeron, crossed the path of Gul’dan’s disciples in Dalaran Eye, physically fought with a griffin in Cintron, and laughed and joked with the sister of the Ranger General of Silvermoon City was actually still thinking about how these little brats looked at him, it was really enough to fall off the face of the earth.
“Sir, you might want to take a look at this one.” Larson walked out and unfolded an old robe that was tawny and a bit greenish, saying, “This is a vestment that I received during last year’s Harvest Festival, it’s a bit shorter than the one just now but it’s not quite a short robe, and his previous owner was a Kul Tiras mage who was about the same size as you. This robe is old, but it was woven with spider silk and magical cloth from the island, so it may be a bit more expensive, but both the size and features meet your requirements. The magic pattern cloth used in this garment is specially reinforced with elemental resistance, so the possibility of being burned directly is not high, and it’s hard to ignite. If it gets scratched, since neither the magic pattern cloth nor the spider silk are particularly rare materials, the cost of repairing it isn’t too high either, what do you think?”
“It’s more expensive, how much more expensive?”
“Twenty-seven silver coins will take it.”
“I’ll try first.”
Jace put it on and looked in the mirror and felt kinda handsome, and on top of that, he did look more like a real mage after wearing this mid-length vestment.
The simple little 12 silver coin short robe from before was fine in Stormwind, but as soon as he entered Dalaran he looked like a handyman.
“So why did the last owner sell it?”
“Ah …… absolutely nothing about the dress itself, sir.”
“Can you tell us about it?” Jace suddenly came to be curious.
Larson said, “The dress was made by that mage’s wife, and then she got divorced, so she sold the dress, and that was it.”
Jace nodded, thankfully it wasn’t some odd reason like dying tragically under dragon flames or being deported for studying necromancy anymore.
“This one, then.”
