    Chapter Index

“What do you mean?” Grid asked, “What new body?”

Jace continued, “You do realize that Death Knights are all orc souls taking over human bodies, right?”

“I know, of course I know.” Grider tapped his plate with a crab leg and said, “Ah! That’s what you mean, so it’s the old carapace that’s getting used up and going for a new one.”

“Or maybe they thought the old one was too weak, so they wanted a stronger one.” Jace took a piece of bread and dipped it into the crab leg soup and put it in his mouth, and said, “Remember when we went there last time, the owner of that tomb was a hero during the troll wars, and there were a lot of corpses there that were veterans, knights and whatnot, and there should be a lot of them suitable for Death Knights……. Speaking of which, this thing should also be told to Winressa.”

“Why are you thinking of telling Walesa, I thought you said you wouldn’t tell her, are you having second thoughts?” Grid asked.

Jess slapped the table and said, “Again? Why do you have to say again? She asked me today, didn’t I treat her well because I thought she did you a favor? And I am not looking forward to her to find that death knight early for the people of Stormwind City to get rid of the harm? Who is like you who thinks of doing this and that every day and wants to get on the one with a hole in it.”

“Since when do I want to fuck everyone I see? I have demands as well! It’s you, Jace Sesso, who cried out for a female elf? I see you don’t take my words seriously!”

“If you shout for it, you must have it? Can’t I shout for a good time?” Grid stared up, seemed to want to be angry but didn’t know where to go, finally smothered a large mouthful of wine and said, “I’m telling you, you’re the little brat that I think is abnormal, so young that you don’t think about finding a few more pretty girls, but every day you go to recite spells and perform spells with a bunch of immodest old men!”

“Then help me find it!” Jace yelled.

“Looking for it tonight!” Grid slapped the table as well, and with a pop the entire table shook with the drinks.

It was then that the two of them noticed a few tables around them glancing this way, thankfully they didn’t particularly stand out in the noisy evening environment.

Jace scrunched his neck and whispered, “I’m just saying.”

    “Pussies!”

“Yes, yes, yes, you’re right about everything.”

“Ah.” Grid let out a laugh and pointed a crab leg at him, “You’re the type where the first time has to mean something.”

“Probably maybe almost.” Jace had just finished speaking when he immediately realized something was wrong and fell for it.

Grid snorted coldly and said, “Ha, finally admitted it, so you’re really a little virgin, huh? But I’m not surprised at all, with all the time spent practicing hitting the water every day, how could any girl look at you?!”

He took a smug sip of his drink after that and squinted at Jace as if he was already enjoying his victory.

    “Valindus Swiftblade, right?” Jace asked.

As soon as he heard the name, the smile on Grid’s face felt as if it had been drained away all at once.

“Okay, truce, Jace.” He said, “The battlefield is already bloody.”

Jace nodded as he took a sip of his wine.

“Good, now to business.” Grider said.

“Business? Are you alive again?” Jace asked.

Grider said, “Don’t you want to buy a house, and to buy a house you need money, and where is the money going to come from, and you don’t want to have to go back to shipping with people, do you?”

He pointed to his eyes again and said, “And right now I’m in desperate need of a qualified target to try out my true strength, Jace, you’ve got to give me that chance.”

“Then you can get yourself a job at the Warrior’s Guild.” Jace said, “I’m about to start a new school year now, and there’s kinda a lot going on. Buying clothes, paper, pens, books, and ……”

Grid shook his index finger and said, “This one isn’t far, it’s right in Western Springs, a round trip in a day won’t take too long.”

Jace put down the glass in his hand, stared at him for a moment, and asked, “You’re not talking about that job, are you?”

“That’s the live I’m talking about.” Grid said, “When we went to Lordaeron, another mercenary squad gave their lives away, but it was rumored that they killed quite a few jackals, only to have that leader get away in the end, and now that the Riverclaw clan must be at a weak point, King Varian hasn’t even continued to raise the bounty.”

“He doesn’t continue to raise the bounty because he’s poor!” Jace said helplessly, “It’s over, Grid, after going to take a lesson in Dalaran, I already feel like I can’t stay here, how come Storm City is so poor, it feels like the elf nobles of Quel’thalas just need to come a few times to get this side of the …… world all the way up… …prices to skyrocket.”

Jace suddenly realized that he couldn’t even express the word inflation in common parlance; there was just something wrong with Mudblood’s vocabulary.

“Accumulated sand is a tower, Jace.” Grid said, “And think about it, that Riverclaw headman would have accumulated a lot of goodies after all that time robbing in the Aylwyn Forest. Didn’t you make the biggest chunk of money you’ve ever made by picking it up from a nondescript old farm in the South Mile?”

“That’s true, but are you so sure the two of us can take on the Riverclaw clan?”

“Didn’t you even beat the legendary Talon Blood Demon? To be afraid of a mangy dog in the Aelwyn Forest!”

“How many times do I need to repeat …… That’s because there’s Winressa.”

“Now there’s me.” He patted his chest again and said, “Would I be worse than her? That elf who’s skinnier than a dog-headed man? Why don’t you eat thirty pounds of boar meat before coming to compete with me, if I were there, how could the blood demon run? Smash his face in! Speaking of which, you’ve been to the Eyrie for nothing, Jace Sesso, and you haven’t learned a single useful thing in our majestic stone halls. Let alone adding you to the mix, even on my own, at the level of that lousy hammer of his when we met that jackal leader the other day, I’d have taken care of him with one hand.” He pointed in the direction of the Storm City gates and said, “Let’s just say, if I can’t finish off that Hogg, I’ll jump off the gate bridge, how about that? Head on the ground, definitely not touching the water.”

“I’m just afraid I won’t have the life to watch a scene that explosive when the time comes.” Jess said.

    “So you promise not to.”

“Well, one can go ahead and check it out.”

“Then I’ll meet you in the morning.”

“Wait …… tomorrow morning? Hey …… you don’t be in such a hurry.” Jace said, “By then there must be more than just Hogg a jackal, even if he is killed some he can’t fight alone, there must be a large group of river claw guards protecting him, you don’t think that those mercenaries rounding up can’t beat up a Hogg, do you? At least formulate a fight accordingly before doing so.”

“Can they stop my hammer?” Grid said shaking his fist.

“If they’re approaching you from all sides, each with a crossbow in their hand, can your hammer fly out and take them all down one by one in a circle?” Jace asks, “What if they’re leaning against a tree for cover? The two of us in the center are like two living targets.”

“So how stupid does one have to be to get into a situation where you’re surrounded like this?” Grid asked.

“That riparian forest is jackal territory …… Always think of that possibility.” Jace warned.

“Use your fear spell, Jace.” Grid whispered, “Scare them all until they pee their pants, if they have any …… so they never dare to look at you again, so it doesn’t matter if they’re hiding behind a tree or not la!” Jace let out a laugh and asked, “What about you, do you have pants?”

“Ah, uh.” Grid scratches his beard and says, “I should be able to fight fear magic better now than I was then ……”

“Why don’t I try one on you now?”

Jace held up a finger and Grid hurriedly covered his ears, then his eyes, then his mouth, and finally said, “Don’t …… don’t, I don’t want to have nightmares for days.”

“You’re covering these places for nothing.”

But mentioning the fear spell, Jace thought of a way to do it.

“Tell you what, we’ll leave tomorrow afternoon, rest for the night at the Western Springs Fortress, and then check out those jackals’ place the morning after, and I’ll go get you two bottles of Shadow Protection Potion in the morning.”
