    Chapter Index

Leaving Quel’Dani, Jace trailed Grid to a gentle slope.

Large fir trees grow here, and there are sudden shrill whistles from time to time in the forest.

That would be the sound of a griffin, right?

But Jace was also all sound and no bird, looking up all the way to the sound for the griffin but seeing nothing.

Grid stepped out into a clearing, slung his bow over his back, and waved his hand in a gesture for Jace to back off.

Jace stopped just a short distance away and watched what he was planning to do.

The dwarf lifted his head, looked at the fury white sky, and braced his hands to blow an extremely loud and long whistle.

The whistle turned a few corners before emitting several short bursts of motion in quick succession, ending with a sudden sharp movement.

After blowing his load, he took a deep breath and patted his chest, feeling like he was ready for a fight.

Within moments there was a grunting motorcycle engine like movement from the sky and a black dark figure landed in front of the dwarf on several tree trunks fluttering its huge wings, it cawed shrilly towards Grid but kept a wary distance as if trying to scare him away it was a rather large griffin with a head about the height of Jace.

It was dark gray in color, with only the feathers surrounding its neck glowing silver, and let out an impatient bark while always holding a paw at Grid.

Its not as big overall as the white griffin that the Kenrito mage was riding, but according to what Grid had said, the griffins that lived in Sintland were generally smaller in size than those in Otterland, and this Sintland griffin, was already bigger than any of its kind that Jace had seen before.

Grid said something in Dwarven, and the griffin, apparently growing more and more impatient, bobbed his head a few times and took a few more steps back.

I didn’t realize that instead of being anxious or upset by the griffin’s reaction, Grid threw his shield and hammer to the ground and roared a few times in Dwarven, actually laughing as he did so.

The griffin let out a series of low cooing sounds, then flapped its wings and barreled toward Grid, and Jace’s heart tightened at the sight.

But seeing the smug look on Grid’s face and realizing that this should be what he was expecting as well, he made no move to help.

Grid met the charging griffin, grabbing both front grabs with both hands precisely as the latter raised his upper body!

The griffin anxiously began to roar shrilly, trying to flap his wings to swat at the dwarf’s head, and Grid roared as he dodged the heavy wing strikes to tussle with his opponent.

This monster so big body center of gravity seems to be less stable than the dwarf, the two tossed for a while surprisingly slipped to the side of the back legs flopped down, but its body fell down with great force, but also tugged on the dwarf to put him down on the ground.

The griffin was visibly angry, it flapped its wings and stood up and raised a claw, the dwarf flinched and ducked, the griffin then stomped on its hind legs and was about to go for a biting pounce.

Grid keenly dodged the pecks and bites to hold it directly around the neck, and the griffin began to leap over and over on the ground, struggling to throw the dwarf off, but the dwarf held on so tightly that the struggle was futile.

Jace never doubted Grid’s strength, but he didn’t expect the griffin to have more explosive power, it suddenly shrunk its neck, its whole body suddenly rotated, and its neck flung smoothly like a spring, throwing Grid to the ground not far away in one go.

The griffin didn’t continue his pursuit, and Grid got up from the pile of leaves, wiping his face and looking at his palms, which seemed to be scratched in places.

Just when Jace thought he was defeated, the griffin took several steps back, scratching the dirt and fallen leaves on the ground with his claws while grumbling as if he kept on croaking.

Grid came panting, several cuts already on his face and arms, he smiled and said, “Go on, get up there, it’s willing to drive me la, but you have to buy it some meat if you get to Southsea Town.”

    “That simple?” Jess asked.

“Simple?!” Grid pulled his face down and moved two steps this way, clenching his fists, “Here, you stick your head out so you can try my current strength and then refer to it to see how ferocious it is.”

Jace laughed and dodged to the side, “Never mind, haha, sorry, it’s not like I can read how you guys communicate with griffins.”

“Cut the crap.” Grid pointed over there and said, “Get on it and try it out, haven’t you always wanted to ride a griffin? Now this big girl is right in front of you!”

Hearing Grid’s words, Jace looked at the griffin in front of him, and although he felt that the griffin was looking at him in a way that wasn’t quite right, he still couldn’t hide the excitement in his heart.

This is a real griffin …… The point is, this is a griffin waiting for himself to ride on it!

Jace took a few careful steps over to the griffin, and the griffin whirred uneasily a few times, four thick claws that looked like cat and eagle talons scratching at the ground as if trying to back away.

He glanced at Grid, the dwarf’s confident smile from earlier seemed to have faded a bit.

“Go on, it’s not like the griffin is going to come running over and carry you while you’re standing around.”

Jace nodded and took a few more steps forward, and the griffin reacted more vigorously this time, letting out a continuous “ha, ha”.

With his years of experience in raising cats in his previous life, this was definitely not a good sign.

But this wasn’t Earth after all, and griffins were a million miles away from cats, so he couldn’t just concede because of those unrelated experiences, could he?

With his heart crossed, Jace directly tried to grab the feathers on the griffin’s back, but he didn’t realize that the griffin’s entire fur exploded and jumped away when his hand was about to touch it, screaming uncontrollably at Jace as he did so.

It puffed up its neck fur and made a sudden charge toward Jace, who fell back several steps in a hurry.

Luckily it was probably just trying to scare without the whole crashing straight into it, but it was enough to show its rejection.

    “How …… what’s going on ……”

Despite the question on his lips, Jace was not at all surprised.

He was a warlock, after all, and intelligent creatures like the Lords would have sensed the depravity in him, and just didn’t intend to do anything about it because they didn’t think Jace meant any harm.

Griffins, while very intelligent beasts, are no longer beasts and will subconsciously reject things that are unfriendly.

It was safe to say that he had considered this before coming to the continent of Lordaeron, and had just gotten lucky hoping that the griffins wouldn’t notice or something like that.

So you didn’t get a chance to sit on it in the end?

Jace felt a little lost, if he hadn’t learned dark magic then, would he have been allowed to?

But you couldn’t have gotten this far without learning dark magic, could you have killed this far with a light spell?

The dwarf didn’t say anything as he walked over and grabbed the feathers on the griffin’s neck as if he was trying to tell him something, the griffin kept trying to get out of his grip, backing up step by step like a mare with a temper coming up.

“Forget …… Griddle, and don’t force it.” Jess said helplessly.

I didn’t expect Grid to laugh all at once.

“Ha! She’s going to duel you too, Jace. Don’t you think it’s easy, have a set for yourself.”

    “I can beat it?”

“Do you still want to ride?”

Jace’s heart suddenly sank when Grid asked that.

“In that case, let’s get right to it!”
