    Chapter Index

“Looking at the shape of this chrysalis, it doesn’t look like one of your kind, Grid.” Jace warned in a low voice.

“I found that too, damn it.” Grid scratched his brow and thought for a moment, “So this elf is going for at least 50 silver, let’s get him to Quel’Dani and get those guys to pay for him.”

“Isn’t 50 silver too little, those elves are too rich.” Jace said, “At least blackmail two gold coins or something.”

“Blackmail? That’s too hard for you to say, it’s clearly a commission.” The dwarf touched the wall, found a bumpy landing spot to grab onto, and said, “But peel back first to see if it looks good, male or female, and elves won’t pay big bucks to ransom a companion who’s grown crooked.”

Jace swallowed uncomfortably, this was too realistic.

Grid climbed up high on the wall relief and cut the dangling spider silk with his dagger, the chrysalis fell to the floor with a thud, and a whimpering, whimpering movement came from inside, like it was particularly excited and thrilled.

The dwarf jumped down and sighed, “This guy is quite spirited, he’s still so energetic after being bored here for I don’t know how long.”

“Elves, they can live if they have mana.”

Jace said as he helped shine the light with his light spell, and the dwarf walked over and started to carefully cut away the surface spider silk with his dagger, layer by layer, only to have some green hair leak out after a few layers had been cut away ……

Grid froze for a moment, stood up and sighed, “A wasted trip.”

He suddenly swung his hammer and slammed it down on the writhing head, and the chrysalis went still without a word, bright red blood seeping out from between the spiders.

Jace hadn’t even reacted yet, he froze for a second and said, “This ……”

“Ah, I forgot.” Grid raised his eyebrows and said, “You said you wanted to bang a female troll, too bad I stoned it.”

Jace looked at the long rough hair that was green like watercress and said, “You’re moving too fast for me to react …… Are you sure this is a troll? Any chance it’s an elf with dyed hair?”

Grid shook his head and said, “Don’t worry, the elf would rather cut his head right off than find a way to dye it the hair color of a forest troll. But that explains why this guy has so much strength, trolls have always had plenty of strength, it’s just a shame about my money, damn.”

“Open it up and I’ll see.” Jace said curiously, “I haven’t seen a troll yet.”

Grid nodded, and with his knife continued to cut the spider silk back a few more layers, revealing a greenish colored face with small fangs, nostrils, eyes and blood all around the mouth, looking roughly sort of human, but also very much like a grotesque little snub-nosed lioness.

“You wouldn’t be heartbroken about a troll, would you?” Grid asked, looking at Jace’s frowning look.

    “That’s a miserable death ……” muttered Jess.

“You wouldn’t think she was so miserable if you’d seen the rows and rows of all sorts of flayed heads sticking out of the tips of the spears.” Grid said, “She’s going to die anyway, I’m not going to save her, she’s bound to end up being eaten by the spiders bit by bit. I’d be merciful to give her a hammer instead, don’t you think?”

“That’s true.” Jace said, “Mostly I was thinking about you cutting the spider silk a little more.”

Grid glared up and said, “You really should get a wife, Jace, you’ll go psycho if you hold it in for so long, I think you’re getting a little out of my league.”

Jace said helplessly, “Are you out of your mind, cut it open and see if there are any coins or something like that …… Even if I really want to mess with a female troll, I can’t come on to a dead person! And taking a step back at least it can’t be now, it can’t be here.”

“Hmm …… Ah, yes.” Grid nodded as if in a daze of realization, and laid hands on it again to continue cutting the spiders.

Jace moved over and was about to take a look when the dwarf suddenly stopped moving.

    “What’s wrong?”

Grid looked behind Jace and yelled, “Look out!”

As soon as the words were out of his mouth, Jace turned his head back, and a giant insect head with four pairs of eyes, about the size of his upper torso, suddenly became visible in the shadows that were poorly illuminated by the light spell!

A long, slender foot extended out from the shadows and climbed up the wall and the ground, “clattering” as it crawled forward, Jace felt goosebumps all over his body and subconsciously pointed his finger at the giant spider monster, which was even taller than he was.

He shouted the fear spell incantation and the light spell went out with it, the spider letting out a shrill chirp as it retreated back into the shadows.

    “Get out of the way!”

Grid scurried out from behind Jace and jumped over towards an approximate position in a patch of darkness, swinging a hammer blow between the spider’s two rows of eyes.

The flared electricity flickered for a moment, only to hear a dull boom like a watermelon cracking with a movement, and with a grunt the spider slumped to the ground in its entirety.

Long, thick, hairy legs struggled back and forth for a while, Grid ducked low to avoid the sweep of one leg backing up a few steps as Jace conjured up another light spell to illuminate the scene, the spider appeared to be done for, with only its limbs still twitching and twitching.

“A female spider.” Grider gasped, “Nothing …… no big deal, but she’s still got pretty good feet.”

He made a poking and stabbing motion with his hand and laughed, “It’ll go through your head in a heartbeat.”

    “Scared me.” Jess said.

“Progress this time, at least the fear spell you put in didn’t hurt me by mistake.” Grid said as he gestured, obviously a little excited from having just knocked out a giant spider with a single blow.

But Jace is getting weird, isn’t that dead spider behind the dwarf, twitching non-stop for a bit too long? Beyond the range illuminated by the light spell, there seems to be a layer of blackness spreading over, and Jace says, “Forget about that troll, we should go ……”

Grid looked sideways, just in time to see several small, palm-sized spiders crawling over their mother’s head, stretching out their chelicerae and twitching at Grid over and over.

“Go!” Jace tapped Grid on the shoulder with his staff and said, “Run! Can’t you hear the spiders crawling around?”

Greed pulled out with an ouch, however the two ran to the front of the passage only to realize that the passage they climbed up was already covered in countless small spiders.

They swooped down in this direction, making shouting, strange noises, and in the blink of an eye the movement of spider legs grinning and banging against the walls was so dense that nothing else could be heard at all!

    “Have to force me ……”

Grid said, and the warhammer in his hand suddenly erupted into a cascade of electricity illuminating the entire space, silencing Jace’s light spell!

Lightning rays with a clicking motion instantly ran through the entire passageway, and an odor of charred and roasted meat quickly filled the surroundings.

The two of them stepped on the large dead spiders to climb up, Grid ran faster, Jace holding a staff and holding the light spell to focus on the spirit to be slower, he ran while paying attention to the movements of the spiders behind him, ready to use the staff to enhance the group of fear spell for the last fight, but did not worry about running to run only to hear the “ah” sound.

Jace just turned his head back before he could react to what was going on, and all of a sudden he felt himself flinging himself into a soft mass of something his feet left the ground uncontrollably, and the light art went out in an instant, struggling for a while but in vain …… Damn it, it’s a cobweb trap ……
