Chapter 183.
by Jessie@AFNCCAfter returning from the wards, Jace followed Grid back to the rented house to take his bags, but of course the staff was still there, and Jace wasn’t going to throw his lot in with it until he left Dalaran.
No. On the way home, he thought that he should practice his mage armor quickly, if he had mage armor when he fought with the Blood Demon, it wouldn’t be so disastrous, right?
But mage armor was just too difficult, and he, who had always been particularly passionate about learning spells, would still get lazy every time he thought about it.
He had memorized the spell quite a few times since leaving Stormwind, but never once had he actually practiced it, both because it was really dangerous and because there was always nothing available.
Especially since Nanhai Town had been unconscious for two or three days after fighting the Black Dragon, and had missed too much time.
Tonight, he was going to ask Mr. Duchamp for a favor.
Must start practicing anyway, the strange journey to the continent of Lordaeron is almost halfway through and today is already December 12th.
Arriving at the door of his residence, Jace knocked and the door was opened almost instantly.
Dushan stood inside and said, “Jess, why don’t you find a way to contact me for a minute? You said you were leaving last night and you didn’t say what you were going to do.”
“The situation last night, teacher, there was no way to make contact.” Jace said helplessly. He walked through the door and looked back to see that Duchamp’s expression was a little tense and he asked, “What’s wrong, Sensei?”
Dushan hesitated for a moment and said, “They say the Dalaran treasury has been stolen.”
“I warned them at the meeting.” Jess said.
The teacher sat down and sighed, picked up his cup, and said, “If you hadn’t been right, maybe they would have just taken you for a young apprentice and talked nonsense, but now that you’re more right than anyone else, they’re definitely going to come here and ask.”
Jess knew Dushan was right, it was only a matter of time before Kenrito found himself here, but it turned out that Dushan hadn’t even finished his cup of coffee when there was a knock on the door outside.
“Master Carlo Duchamp, may I ask if Mr. Jess Sesso has returned?”
The speaker’s tone was particularly slatternly, sounding like someone from Kenrito.
Dushan shrugged helplessly, and Jess could only go to the door.
Opening the door, there was actually an elf standing outside.
He was dressed in a blue vestment with a gold filigree wrap and cloak, his blonde hair fell to his waist, and the jeweled necklace around his neck was quite beautiful.
Its more like a pure Quel’thalas school mage than a member of Kenrito’s elves, both in dress and posture.
“Hello, I’m Remy Stargazer from the Relic Society, is Mr. Jace Sesso in?”
“I am Jace Sesso.”
Jace groped in his mind for a while, wondering what the Sacred Relic Society was looking for himself to do.
It can’t be that mace straight up, can it?
It can’t be. ……
A whole bunch of worries flashed through his mind at once, but he nodded a little and asked, “Is there anything I can do to help?”
Remy glanced inside the door, greeted Duchamp, and added, “Mr. Sesso, this is the building you share with someone else, isn’t it, so why don’t we go out and find a restaurant to talk about it slowly.”
He looked at the bandage wrapped around Jace’s shoulder and asked, “I don’t suppose there’s anything wrong with your injury?”
“Simply eating …… should be okay.”
After saying goodbye to Dushan, the two went to Sky Blue Encounter, where Remy ordered a few things in Elvish before coughing lightly and looking over at Jace.
“Mr. Jace Sesso, let me explain why I’m here.”
Remy spoke the common tongue nearly perfectly, not to mention Jace’s mouthful of Briar farm-boy accent, which even the royal family of Minethil didn’t always speak so well.
“I don’t know if you’ve heard of our Relic Society.”
“I’ve heard that.” Jess said.
Remy nodded a bit and said, “Perhaps you would think that the Relic Society is an organization that owes allegiance to Quel’thalas, or even to the Sunseeker royal family. While this is indeed true on the surface, in reality, our purpose is not to pledge allegiance to anything or to serve anyone, but rather to explore the secrets and knowledge of a wide variety of magic-related holy relics, artifacts, even weapons, and so on, that were left behind during the ancient times by searching for them in order to achieve our ultimate goal – to help Quel’dorei to permanently rid itself of its dependence on magic, perhaps you’ve heard of this problem that has plagued our people for tens of thousands of years, some would call it magic addiction.”
“I’ve heard that one too.” Jess nodded.
Remy Stargazer was too serious when he spoke, so much so that when a variety of snacks and dishes were set out, Jace was a bit embarrassed to take a bite even though he was starving, and in the end, he just took a cup of the juice.
Remy Stargazer continued, “The reason for this slight introduction is because I hope you will not be wary or even hostile towards me, although we are not of the same race, I would never do anything to harm the alliance between elves and humans. I was introduced to this place by the master of the Quel’thalas Embassy in Dalaran, Aethas Suncatcher, who retold me what happened last night at the Orcish language exchange meeting.”
Relic Society, Orcish Language Exchange Conference, Aethas Suncatcher.
Despite this Remy’s bullshit not getting to the key point, Jace was almost on the verge of guessing what he was going to do.
“So you want that Seal Talon Blood Demon order, do you.” He asked.
Remy Stargazer said, “Mr. Jace Sesso is as sharp as I thought he was.”
What’s so perceptive about that, Jace thought to himself it’s obvious to anyone.
This guy’s not sugar-coating it, is he?
Despite that thought, it didn’t stop Jace from hearing the joy in his heart that the shell had sort of broken through the armor for him.
He glanced at the food on the table, swallowed a mouthful of saliva, and said, “But this letter, it’s just a letter, and the contents on it have all been cleanly translated by the masters at the meeting, I think with the memory of Master Isaacs and those students of his, they should have remembered everything long ago… I don’t quite understand… Shouldn’t the Society of Reliquaries be an organization that searches for magical holy relics? Could it be that you guys are trying to find all the remaining holy relics by relying on those few words only?”
“The one remaining holy relic.” Remy corrected.
He took a piece of preserved fruit and put it in his mouth and said, “Haven’t you heard that the Dalaran treasury has been stolen? Judging by Kenrito’s violent reaction, what was stolen would be the Eye of Dalaran, that legendary holy relic of the Council of Tirisfa.”
“However, you shouldn’t know about the Eye of Dalaran, Mr. Jace Sesso. Don’t speak of it lightly or you’ll be in trouble, and the reason I’m telling you is to show my sincerity.”
“Regarding the usefulness of that letter …… there is certainly more than just the orcish language on it.” Remy leaned back in the back of his chair and said, “If you’ve ever taken a course in enchantment, you should know that those with powerful warlocks, or mages for that matter, can’t help but leave behind traces of magical disturbances when they touch something, what humans call magical reverberations, and the ability to feel this energy is called sympathetic sensing. It’s an important ability in the search for sacred artifacts and ancient relics, Mr. Jace Sesso. As it is, I can tell right now that you just met with one of my kind two hours ago, and that the injuries you sustained were inflicted by a Death Knight. I’m not a farrier, I don’t have the senses to smell a forest troll from hundreds of meters away, and I don’t have eyes all over Dalaran to keep me informed, but I don’t even have to ask you if I’m right, so in that way, you can see the power of sympathetic senses.”
Jace thought to himself that this guy does have something …… I wonder if his other problems will be “sympathetic” to him?
Remy didn’t say anything else, he continued, “The Relic Society’s high-ranking examiners can discern hidden information on a wizard’s correspondence that a linguist can’t know, including and not limited to his mana, his mental state, his physical condition, his emotions …… And based on these clues , we can glean very much additional information, making something that might not otherwise offer much value instantly invaluable.”
“I see.” Jace nodded.
“Make an offer if it’s acceptable, Mr. Jace Sesso.” Remy Stargazer was so fast paced this time that Jace wasn’t expecting it, after all the hoops he’d just gone through, this was so direct?
Jace’s mental price was of course 4 gold coins, which was a judgment he made when he was in Storm City, but this Relic Society should be blackmailed a bit more anyways since they were so rich.
“I’ve never done this kind of business, Master.” Jace said, “Name your price!”
“Ten gold coins.” Remy said.
“Thirteen, I think.” Jace said expressionlessly. It was only after he finished that he suddenly realized that just now Remy had said 10 gold coins, gold coins!
He’d just figured he’d add a little bit to whatever Remy said, not realizing that all of a sudden Remy had said a price he hadn’t even thought of!
Remy Stargazer stroked his pointed chin with a bit of blonde beard and said, “Thirteen gold coins is already more than the budget I was given from above, sir, if you can’t accept twelve gold coins, then this deal will have to be canceled.”
“Twelve, then.” Jace forced himself to calm down, “Now that the letter has turned into a nuisance, I’m anxious to get rid of it, too.”
“Indeed.” Remy Stargazer asked, “Do you still have that order?”
Jace opened the bag and flipped the curled up orc order spread out on the table.
Remy picked it up, glanced at it, looked back at Jace, and said, “This is indeed it, no problem.”
He placed a bag on the table, added two more gold coins to it himself, and said, “Thank you very much for your willingness to come up with this precious material, Mr. Jace Sesso. Then please take your time to enjoy it, and I’ll take my leave.”
Jace stared at Remy as he left the tavern, touched the bag of money on the table, touched the wound on his shoulder, and hissed in his mouth to make sure it was all true.
Then he looked to the midget wine waiter wiping the table in front of him and said, “Hello, this gentleman, help wrap these snacks …… thanks.”
