Chapter 161: The Old Vic
by Jessie@AFNCCJace pulled the wolfskin jacket out of his duffel bag and said, “Dad, try this on.”
“And you came back with a gift?”
Father tried on the jacket, luckily Grid had made it slightly bigger when he customized it because he thought Jace was a little kid, just in case he was going to grow any bigger the clothes got smaller, otherwise Vic probably wouldn’t have really fit too well.
“Is this a forest wolf from the south side of the Red Ridge Mountains?” Father asked, “It should be expensive, right? It’s warm to wear, and it’s just right for winter soon.”
“It didn’t cost much, I slaughtered the wolf.” Jace replied casually.
Mother immediately asked, “The wolf didn’t bite you, did he?”
Father said, “It’s not like we don’t have wolves here, it’s okay to get bitten by one, I taught Jace how to deal with wolves when he was little.”
Jace rushed to find an addendum: “I hunt for ……”
He made up a story about going out hunting with a few dwarves and militia, and despite the inconsistencies and errors, his mother listened with interest.
Talking late into the night, he was finally ready to lay his thoughts on the table.
“Mom and Dad, I didn’t just come back this time to see you, I had something on my mind that I wanted to hear from you.”
“Met a girl you want to marry?” Dad asked.
“No.” Jace said, “I was thinking of buying a house in Stormwind, or Shining Gold, and you guys going over there in the future.”
“This is a matter on which no decision can be made for several nights, Jess.” Mother said.
Jess said, “You guys can take your time and think about it, I haven’t made enough money yet anyway, it’s just simply an idea.”
My father laughed and said, “You kid, you haven’t earned a few dimes in two years, and you’re always thinking about buying a house.”
“What are you saying such things for.” The mother said, “Let your son earn money outside if he wants to, are you saying these things just to discourage his motivation?”
Jess said, “I know Dad is worried about me.”
Father said, “If it’s too hard over there, there are plenty of good-looking, kind girls in the city, like your mother. Besides, there’s nothing wrong with Tirisfa, or going to East Wilde, to Stantholme.”
Hearing the name Stanthom made Jace even more determined to bring them to the Stormwind Kingdom.
The mother hesitated for a moment and said, “That’s something I actually agree with.”
Jace could sense that his parents both wanted him to put together a spell out there to grow up and whatnot, but were also conflicted about not wanting the kid to go too far.
He was the only son in the family, and the two couldn’t afford to lose him. In the middle of the night, as his mother was mending the rip in her son’s shirt, Jace sat outside on the steps, watching the pedestrians on the street in a daze.
In the distance came the melodious sound of a zither, and I wondered if it was being played by the musicians in the royal palace, accompanying the noisy movement of the wagon wheels rumbling close by.
At that moment, his father sat down beside him.
“Jess, do you think I don’t know anything because I’m from an older generation?”
“Why do you ask.”
Jace looked sheepishly at his father, in reality he certainly wasn’t considered old, he was in his early forties now, certainly considered older in the guards.
It’s just that after traveling all over the world, it’s inevitable that when you get home you’ll feel that your parents, who have taken care of you since you were a child, will have less in common if you haven’t seen what you’ve seen.
Maybe the tone of voice accidentally revealed something that upset Dad.
“The burns on your arms were caused by the dragon flame, weren’t they?” He asked quietly.
Jace frowned, “How did you know?”
“You have a very special odor, Jace, and I’ve only ever smelled it from one kind of person, someone who was attacked by a black dragon.” My father said, “The King’s City received a group of wounded soldiers rescued from the city of Ortlak before, and I helped the priests with the burns, and I can’t forget that smell for the rest of my life.”
The black dragon spewed out shadowy flames, and even those who understood the power of the shadow had a hard time tolerating the strange fishy aura, not to mention the soldiers, the citizens. “I heard that both Southsea Town and Ambermere were attacked by the Black Dragon, did you stop by these two places?” He asked again.
Jace nodded helplessly and said, “Southsea Town.”
“I guess so, and that string of pearls on your wrist.” He lowered his eyes to glance at it and said, “Planning on telling how it came to be? Don’t you dare lie to me and say some girl gave it to you.”
Jace had wanted to give it to his mother as a gift, but then he thought that the Naga’s things didn’t necessarily carry any evil aura, and it wouldn’t be good if they caused damage to his mother’s body, so in the end he didn’t take it out.
But it just stayed on and didn’t come off.
“And I’m not allowed to grow up in the past two years? But you don’t even know what this is, do you?”
“Naga’s jewelry.” Father said.
“Amazing enough, really, where have you seen Naga? Right here in your old neighborhood?” Chilly hairs rose behind Jace’s back.
“Your father grew up in Talonmere, how does one have to be a bit of a man to make it to the King’s City as Captain of the Guard.” My father looked at Jace and said, “I was married to Henny before I wanted to settle down, and it wasn’t just that face that made me attractive to a pretty girl from a well-to-do family like your mother.”
He laughed and said, “When you were a child, the two of us knew that you were definitely not any ordinary child, and that even though the Kingdom of Lordaeron was big, it would definitely not be able to bind your feet. That’s why when you planned to go so far away alone two years ago, I was very reluctant in my heart but persuaded Henny to let you go.”
“So don’t worry about us, your dad was a scout cavalryman in Dunhold for a few years when he was younger too, what scenes haven’t he seen? We shouldn’t be the ones you need to be thinking about, your mom needs me to protect her, and you’ll have the one who needs your protection in the future, don’t let the two of us drag you down, and on your mom’s side, I’ll find a way to put her mind at ease.”
Jace felt his nose tighten, took a deep breath, and said, “Dad, I really, really need you two to go to Stormwind, no drag or no drag, but for specific reasons ……”
That said, he couldn’t think of any reason temporarily at once, so he could only avoid his father’s eyes and look down the street, his mind already churned into a mess.
“We’ll go.” His father patted him on the neck and said, “Give me a couple years to take care of things here and we’ll go live in the Storm Kingdom. If you don’t make enough money, Jace, we’ll sell this house, and I don’t think Henny wants to tangle with that family of hers any longer anyway, and neither do I.”
“Definitely got enough money together, don’t worry about it.” Jace pulled out the gulabash gold coin and said, “Look what it is.”
“Troll stuff.”
“Shouldn’t the focus be on gold coins? But damn …… how do you know everything!”
“A trip to Stormwind and you learned a light spell and swearing?”
Jace cleared his throat and said, “I’m sorry, Dad, I didn’t mean to …… but I’ve definitely learned more than just those two, and I’ll tell you what, I’ll show what I know for fear of scaring you.”
“Well, why don’t you show it to me and see if it scares me?”
“Better yet ……”
“Heh, brat, not only are you bragging nonsense, but you dare to look down on your father? You squat here by yourself.” Old Vic stood up, gathered his wolfskin coat, and added, “These clothes are quite comfortable, but how come they look like they were made by a dwarven tailor?”
“Again, you know the dwarves did it ……”
“No?”
