Chapter 157 Trade names
by Jessie@AFNCCJace thought, “You’re playing Harry Potter here, and the phoenix feather, where in the world of warcraft is there a phoenix that can pull out its hair?
“You have a Phoenix Quill?”
“Yes, the Phoenix Feather.” The gnome repeated, “Very unique and very expensive, would you like to see it?”
“I’d kinda like to see that.” Jace said with a nod.
Just as the gnome shook his wand in his hand and didn’t even look back at the cargo container behind him, a small wooden box flew into view with a hush.
This was getting Harry Potter, and Jess couldn’t help but peek out the door. Making sure that the floor tiles outside were still red and the walls were still cream colored, or he would have thought he’d gone through Diagon Alley again.
The gnome lifted the wooden box with a scornful grin on his face, and it was becoming increasingly obvious to Jace that the way he started those two takes was shading the Wizard’s Sanctuary.
Today he would like to see what this so-called Phoenix Feather was.
“Forty-five silver coins a piece, sir. This quill is expensive, but it will last forever, and as long as you don’t specifically try to destroy it, it’s hard to break it.”
Jace didn’t care what the price was, he wasn’t going to buy it anyway.
Although the price is really amazing enough, the turkey feather pen in Storm City is a few copper coins at most, of course, use it for at most two weeks and then rest, if this sum can be used all the time, it is really hard to say whether it is expensive or not.
The first thing he determined when this quill was revealed was that it wasn’t a phoenix feather at all. Of course, he knew it wasn’t without opening it.
The phoenix is one of the most powerful elemental creatures of the Fire Elemental Plane, each hair is hotter than a normal charcoal lit flame, if there is a phoenix hair this broken box is sure to burn, and those cabinets in the back can’t be preserved, not to mention the store full of paper and pens.
But the feather was really pretty and very long.
It was purple and red with a golden eye stripe at the very top, like a small peacock tail feather, and Jace could feel a tiny bit of magic lingering on it.
Given its size, you’d be hard pressed to say that it’s the legendary Feather of the Immortal Bird, and surely a number of people would believe it.
Jace glared up and glanced at the gnome, who still had a smug look on his face.
“Where did you fly from, you phoenix?”
“I knew you didn’t know anything.” The gnome said, “One of the members of the Council of Six in Kenrito, Prince Kael’thas Sunseeker of Quel’thalas, keeps company with the true phoenix; have you not seen the banner of Quel’dorei?”
“That’s a fire phoenix too, this hair is obviously not golden.” Jace said.
“That flag is symbolized, that’s what the actual phoenix feathers look like!” The gnome emphasized. Jace let out a laugh and said, “Admit it honestly, or I’ll go to the elves and sue you for selling fakes here in the name of Prince Kelthas! The phoenix is an elemental creature, you can pull hairs from an elemental creature?”
“Elemental beings ……” the gnome muttered the word, leaned back in his chair, and said, “The Witch Temple brats know a lot, huh?”
He glanced toward the door and whispered, “All right, you can interpret that as a trade name.”
“Trade name ……” Jace said as he looked at him with squinted eyes, “The Phoenix of Quel’dorei, Kael’thas Sunseeker, who was there just a moment ago and swore by it, how come it’s a trade name now?”
“You’re looking for a fight, aren’t you? Grabbing at it and not letting go, right?” The gnome knocked on the table and said, “Fine, you say this is not a phoenix feather, then you tell me what kind of feather this is, if you guess the owner to whom this feather belongs, I’ll just give this thing to you.”
“Are you serious?”
“I’m not going to be able to open my store without forty or so silver coins, boy, I’m not going to believe it today.” The gnome chanted, “It’s almost as if he’s come to my place to smash it!”
Jace was just about to reach out and touch the feather when the gnome immediately tapped his hand with his wand.
“No touching! If you don’t have the skills to do that, go away yourself and don’t break my stuff! I’ll give you one chance to guess.”
Jace withdrew his hand and glanced at the feather.
This feather is quite different from the usual bird feathers, first of all, this tens of centimeters in length eliminates a considerable number of small and medium-sized birds.
And on closer inspection, it looked more like the hairs on a moth’s head than a feather, which was the most unusual thing about it; its feathery branches were far less closely packed than the average crow’s-feather.
More like a moth is that although it’s so long, more than half of it is soft, with only the topmost pinch of what looks like a rock-hard, bone-like, hard tube that can be held to write on, and a large portion of the back of it stubby as if it were a decoration that rests on the back of the hand when you write.
Jace felt that writing with this pen might be more pretentious than practical, as it would be difficult to avoid dipping the soft part of the back into undried words if writing too long.
It might be quite grand to have a character like a prince or a general sign an autograph.
That ruled out the possibility of an ocelot, or an eagle-man-a-like bird creature, perhaps a griffin, or a wind serpent or some such beast, and it shouldn’t be the one responsible for the flying part.
Could it be a horned eagle beast?
Horned Hawkbeasts, if you will, are the wrong color; Horned Hawkbeasts are either blue or purple, with the occasional grey and white species, and don’t have a single hair that is so complex in color.
Plus the gnome just said this pen can last forever …… What kind of animal needs to grow such a soft, never breaking feather?
And the gnome’s slam just now basically encompassed every feathered animal Jace in the Eastern Kingdom could imagine, even the lordly beasts.
Guessing this stuff is indeed harder than you think.
Seeing that Jace was stuck in bitter thoughts, the gnome sneered and said, “Stop pretending, if you can’t afford it, leave quickly, delaying my business.”
Do Chimeras have feathers? Jace had about forgotten if the Chimera living in Kalimdor had feathers.
But even if they did, they shouldn’t have such brightly colored feathers. Chimeras either live on snowy mountains, blue and white Icewind Chimeras; or they live on the Stoneclaw Mountains, Chimeras that are about the same color as wild boars, and are mostly covered in fluff.
Jace had pretty much thought of every flying, flightless feathered animal on the entirety of Azeroth for a while now, and couldn’t think of any that fit the exclusion criteria.
He was even starting to think about the Dragons.
Wait a minute …… Dragons?
Jace remembered a creature that was normally particularly unremarkable, but the game operator had once put out an illusionary fashion in its image, and that fashion had two floppy feathers sticking out of its hat!
And this little monster that’s super like a moth!
“The tentacles of an elfin dragon.” Jace blurted out.
“Get out!”
The gnome cracked his tongue, waving his wand as he did so, and the box slammed shut and crashed into the cabinet, causing the entire shelf to wobble with a clanking sound.
“Did someone hire you to specifically scam me, tsk?!”
Jace couldn’t help but laugh at his appearance as he walked to the door and said, “Wait for the king’s guards of the Sunseekers to come knocking on your store door.”
“Hey! Slow down.”
He had just stepped over the threshold when the gnome behind him called out to him, and as soon as Jace turned around, the box from earlier flew into his hand in a flash.
“Just take it and get the hell out of here! Don’t ever come to my place again!”
