Chapter 143: Unforgivable
by Jessie@AFNCC“It’s back!”
A sobbing chant from nowhere, followed by cries of fear from another part of the street.
Grid pulled Jace up and said, “Don’t just stand there, run! Find a place to hide!”
The two men grabbed the little girl and scurried into a stone house, an alley behind a wall that hadn’t caught fire yet, when a dark shadow swept overhead and two or three helpless purple magic missiles trailed it.
There was another series of explosions in the distance, and then a movement of shouting, the roar of soldiers cursing and abusing could be heard clearly from several blocks away.
“What does this fucking beast want? Completely destroy this town? It’s so arrogant!” Grid cursed.
“Here, hide, boy, don’t go out! Wait until that monster is gone before you go to your mom and dad!”
The child nodded, and Jace finished running after Grid from from the alleyway, seeing the giant shadow turn in mid-air and fly to the other side of the town hall, fanning out into a gale of wind that at once extinguished a good deal of the flames near them, blowing Jace and Grid almost unsteadily.
What kind of dragon is this …… an adult, or a juvenile?
Jace had little idea of the appearance of dragons in Azeroth’s reality, and considering the griffin’s appearance was more mythological than game backwards, then dragons probably weren’t as cartoonish.
Just based on the general impression from the game, from the back of that just now, it looked like a young dragon anyways.
But how could a young dragon cause so much damage? If it’s a young dragon shouldn’t …… it be swarms of stragglers?
He realized that this wasn’t the first time he’d made the mistake of taking a game setting and applying it to the real world, and he had to correct his perception as soon as possible without judging these comparisons preemptively.
The dragon was far off in the direction of the house, and as he looked around, a man covered in flames screamed and jumped into the sea. Another man collapsed on the edge of the dock before he could jump into the sea, several figures rushed up to help him put out the fire but couldn’t put out the flames.
A sickening burnt stench filled the air and Jace felt increasingly sick to his stomach, he couldn’t tell if it was the emotional stress causing physical pain or if the strange odor was truly unbearable.
He vaguely felt that it was the power of the Shadow, and the dragons who were able to use the Shadow energy.
The town was in a panic, most of the soldiers had no long range weapons and were either left to stare at the ground or had already joined in putting out fires and rescuing people.
The clock at the top of the town hall still dangled, dangling, as a knight of Lordaeron tugged at the reins to keep the panicked horse under his seat as steady as possible at the mouth of the street, and several times he was nearly taken to the ground by the horse.
He shouted, “We need mages, we need all combat capable warriors …… archers, hunters, whatever! Reinforcements are coming soon!”
A few mages came running from the other side of the street, their otherwise shiny outer robes covered in dust and their faces covered in scorched ash.
Knowing that they not only had to hunt that dragon, but also to help the suffering civilians in the town, Jace couldn’t possibly spend too much mana on shift magic like in the game like he did in the flash spell, and could only rely on his legs to chase after him, which was really of limited use in this situation.
At that moment, a sharp whistle suddenly came from the sky.
At the sound of the whistle, Grider’s head snapped up.
“It is they …… are my brethren!”
Jace’s mind hadn’t even turned the corner on what exactly Grid’s brother meant when a speedy shadow rushed over the street from among the distant pines!
It was a smaller griffin, but extremely fast, and the rider on top of it couldn’t see his form clearly, but the electric light in his hand trailed extremely far through the smoke-filled air ……
A griffin knight!
Grid bellowed in Dwarven, and the rider in the sky seemed to hear his roar and responded with a loud laugh in much the same utterance, the sound suddenly coming closer and fading away as the griffin moved away, chasing after the shadow of the dragon!
Grid was so excited that his whole body was almost ready to explode, and he wanted to find a rocket in place to send himself up into the sky to join the fight, yet Jace felt tight inside.
Can a griffin rider defeat that dragon?
Where are his teammates? Why is there only this one knight?
Jace looked in other directions and no other griffins appeared.
He didn’t have time to think about anything more, Grid had already chased after him in the direction the griffin rider had left, and he had to follow.
Rounding a few houses, a whistling wind suddenly swept overhead, and Jace looked up just in time to see the dragon fly past overhead, followed by the sweeping shadow of a griffin as the two sides engaged in a chase over the town of Southsea!
The two found another open field just as they saw the dragon charging straight up high into the air, its shadow rapidly shrinking, while the griffin, faster and more agile in shadow, went straight after it.
Grid shouted at the top of his lungs, like he was trying to put some kind of war cry buff on the griffin rider, but as he watched both things were high in the air he couldn’t see them clearly.
There was a sudden flash of electricity, and there was no doubt that it was the Griffin Riders attacking!
Many of the soldiers of South Sea Town raised their heads to watch the battle to cheer for the Griffon Riders, slogans like For the Union were endless, and some even climbed up to the roofs of their houses to roar.
A dragon roar exploded from the sky, and Grid gave a loud laugh, “He can’t hold out, that evil dragon is getting away!”
Hearing Grid say this, Jace’s heart, which was hanging in the air, was also slightly put down After a while the dragon’s shadow suddenly appeared and rapidly expanded, its wings suddenly closed, obviously swooping towards this side.
Originally still cheering the townspeople to see this scene instantly silenced, cheering and cheering sound instantly turned into a scream, jumping jumps scattered scattered, the two also had to hold their heads and fled.
As the dragon approached the ground, Jace finally saw his appearance …… brownish black scales, blood red to purple wing membranes, this is not a red dragon, this is indeed a black dragon!
Everyone was ready to be sprayed with flames by the black dragon when they realized that the black dragon’s target wasn’t the crowd at all!
He swooped until he was close to the ground when he suddenly pulled up and turned his head, and the griffin figure behind him suddenly became visible!
Damn …… this dragon is going to shoot back!
Just as Jace’s heart was gripped with pain, a blinding bolt of lightning suddenly flew out from the griffin’s side, spinning to catch up with the black dragon that had taken up altitude, and accurately slammed into his left wing, a series of electric currents bombarding through his wing and chest in succession!
However, the black dragon screamed in pain, but it violently spat out a large swath of blood-red fire!
No ……
The speed of the griffin knight s diagonal dive was …… too fast and did not stop and rushed straight into the flames! Then flew out from the other side of this dark red with a cloud of black smoke, and fell straight into a private house to set off a large area of sand and dust and rubble.
The black dragon screamed strangely and tried to fly higher, but it could only wobble in the sky towards the north barely flying at a lower and lower altitude.
His wings were obviously injured, and he didn’t look like he would be able to fly very far.
What about the Griffin Knight?
Grider screamed and cursed and ran in the direction where the Griffin Rider had crashed, and the two crossed several alleys to that street.
Across the street in front of them, the dark green griffin was slumped in the rubble, its neck crooked at a horrible angle, its intestines and entrails already oozing out and steaming, its feathers still burning with a dull-colored flame and emitting a foul stench.
It wasn’t the fishy odor from the griffin’s entrails or blood.
Grid looked back and forth beside the griffin, calling out something in dwarven, but getting no response.
Jace noticed a house with something smashed through the roof, black smoke was coming out of the hole, and a young girl inside, obviously frightened, ran out crying.
“This way …… Griddle, this way!”
Rushing into the house, a burnt odor mixed with an unpleasant and strange smell hit him, and the griffin rider was there in the corner.
The knight’s body had been burned black for a large part of its length, and the whole of it had been broken by the heavy impact, and lay sprawled in an unimaginable position like a mannequin damaged by an unruly child.
He wore a similar attire to Grid, and had a similar hair braid tied around his head, however, because of too much blood and fire, he could no longer see his original skin color or hair color.
Jace looked at his form and even had the illusion that he was Griddle.
Didn’t the Griffin Riders realize that the Black Dragon might in turn attack them with flames?
Jace remembered what Grid had said – a griffin would never back down if he thought the sacrifice was worthwhile.
Could it be that the Griffin Knight would rather die than stop that black dragon?
Cintron was to the northeast, and if this black dragon intended to fly that way, it could probably arrive in a day or two’s time.
At that moment Grid ran in as well, and the look on his face nearly froze when he saw the dwarf.
He couldn’t stop his hands from shaking, and Jace could even hear his teeth clashing over and over again with rage.
“No …… no ……”
He leaned down next to the Dwarf Knight and tried to touch him, only to be stopped by Jace.
“Don’t touch …… That’s the Black Dragon’s fire, Grid!”
“Shit!” Grid cursed and stood up again, he looked back and forth, not finding what he was looking for, and ran wildly out of the house again, finally finding the thing at the back of the house.
A warhammer with dwarven runes and a faint hint of electricity floating on it!
As Jace watched the warhammer being lifted by Grid, it suddenly erupted into a flurry of electricity running into the air around it as if it had been re-ignited.
“I’m going to slaughter this beast.” Grider stared at the hammer in his hand and roared in a frenzy, “I’m going to slaughter this beast! Now, right now!”
Jace didn’t try to talk him out of it this time.
The town of Southsea had become like this, when we left here in the morning everything was so peaceful and quiet, and in the twinkling of an eye everything was burning up.
Only because of the evil dragon that somehow appeared here.
“Wait here for me, Jess.”
Grider said and turned to leave.
“I’m coming with you!”
