Chapter 136 Post-war summary
by Jessie@AFNCCThe hunt had given the men a good run for their money on the ship, and wherever they went people kept saying thank you, even strangers who initially seemed to have mean faces expressed their gratitude.
The woman was resting in her cabin with her injuries, the ponytailed man, though much more severely injured than her, stayed awake, and kept his eyes open to stare at the two when Jace and Grider visited him, trying to prove that he was still very much alive.
Those who went down before died three, surprisingly there are still alive, that black panther did not go to specialize in hunting to escape and hide, including the first mate Gazik, who barely survived even though he was wounded, everyone did not expect.
It was a big risk, but I have to say that this time it was the biggest amount of money Jace had ever earned, after all, he really did get a gold coin that was half his own, not to mention some silver coins.
Originally he was still considering whether or not to sell this string of beads on his wrist, but now it seems that even if he doesn’t sell it, the rest of his travel expenses in Lordaeron will definitely be enough.
It just so happens that this strand of beads will be kept as a souvenir.
In the passenger cabin, the topless man was bragging to some people he knew around him while drinking rum.
“That black panther, ah …… can be worthy of being the star of the Gulabash arena! Every claw hated to tear the cabin wall, now you go down and look, there are scratches and marks everywhere, I was worried that it leaked this ship …… If not for that, I wouldn’t have fought so woefully, luckily in the end, I still won! Ha!”
“Of course, those brothers and sisters who fought with me are also more powerful than one another, if not for them, I might have been torn to pieces long ago, especially that dwarf!”
With that, he raised his glass this way, and Grid and Jace returned the favor in kind.
Listening to the topless man exaggerate about the process, they had little idea of wanting to join in.
Jace was pretty normal, he wasn’t a fan of publicity to begin with, and now that he had mastered all this dark magic, he was even more careful to keep a low profile as much as possible.
Grid, who was supposed to be the favorite to be in the limelight, was quiet this time, making him a bit curious.
“What’s wrong, is something wrong?”
“I thought you were going to use that fear spell.” Grider pressed his voice, “Turns out you used another spell, didn’t you? Shadow magic too? I can’t say this time, Jace, but …… but I think I saw your staff glow.”
His eyes glanced to the baguette on the table, and Jace unconsciously put his hand over it.
“Just as that cheetah was charging at you, I heard your spell, I’m guessing it was some sort of weakness, or fainting magic, that made that beast blurry in its consciousness, unable to recognize where it was going, and unsure of how to attack, I could tell. Without you, we probably wouldn’t have gotten the money in the end, and we’d all have gotten hurt for nothing. Anyway, I’m already planning to lay my hands on it.” Grid pulled out the dagger at his waist and shook it.
“That’s what happened.” Jace said, “But I’ve been a little wary of having someone in those three who can see Shadow magic.”
“Don’t you think too much.” Grid said, “I just asked around a little bit when I was on the deck, that long ponytail and this one who is talking, are both hunters from the Treasure Bay, and haven’t dealt with orcs or confronted trolls head on. That woman is a veteran, only that woman …… could possibly be able to see your spells, because she has participated in the orc wars and encountered orc warlocks, except that she was about to be unable to stand up when you cast your spells, so she should not know anything.”
Jace was a lot more relieved when Grid said that.
“Speaking of which, are you sure you can kill that panther?” He asked again.
“Don’t forget that I have a shield.” Grid said, “I’m not bragging this time, that orc from Red Ridge Mountain, I can’t beat him is I can’t beat him, if he doesn’t use magic, he can still compete, but that would be pointless. As for this black panther, it’s true that he’s much stronger than the average panther. But I have a feeling that his reputation is still partly due to the bragging rights of the arena operators and spectators. I have the confidence to take that guy on solo, of course, provided that I’m given at least a knife or something, unarmed would be the end of it, but I just cut my nails.”
He suddenly came over and asked, “What do you think, let’s form a team to play in the Gulabash Arena in the future? With another reliable teammate, we might be able to make a lot of money!”
“There’s a line to be drawn when it comes to getting killed, Grid.” Jace gave him a blank look, “You give me the right amount of …… If you’re willing to go go yourself, forget it, I’m not going to go looking for death anyway and be blamed for dragging you down or something.”
Jace didn’t want to fight and suddenly run into a trio of human barbarians led by a human barbarian, aided by a dark elf druid and a blood elf thief sneaking up on him or something.
Especially if the human barbarian sees himself there’s no chance he’ll say, “Yo, if it isn’t that guy, we met at the Stone Fortress you remember?”
Of course, Varian Urien’s Savage Split Personality becoming gladiatorial clay would be more than a decade away, and if he were to team up with Grid now and go out as a gladiator, it would be basically impossible to live for another decade or so to have a chance of running into them.
Grid chuckled, “I was only kidding, but in all seriousness, if all the beastly players there are of a lesser caliber than this, the money is still pretty good.”
Whether the money is good or not, Grider’s words are basically nothing to refer to, the guy is on the level of being able to beat Darnus Torben’s cousin into the sky with his bare hands for a fall.
Jace had no doubt that he would make a lot of money going to the arena.
But that was, after all, a real literal life-for-money job, and the people who went there often weren’t there simply to make money; either they were captured slaves, or they were fanatical about fighting to the point that it was more important than their own lives, and generally people wouldn’t go there to make a fool of themselves if they had any other choice.
Jace said, “Anyway, whether this leopard is sub-par or not, I almost got a few holes scratched out of me. If I get scratched like that ponytailed guy, I don’t know how much time will be wasted and how much money will be spent just recuperating.”
“But think of the scene back then, facing a panther like that and still being able to cast spells calmly.” He concluded with satisfaction, “I think I’m still quite good at it.”
Grid chuckled, “I told you, Jace, you’re more of a man than you appear to be.”
“What the fuck?” Jace’s smile deflated for a moment, “I don’t look like a guy?”
Grid laughed even harder as he grabbed Jace’s face and tugged on it saying, “Look at your smooth little handsome face, if I threw you into Dark Hearth City, your posterior wouldn’t last three hours guaranteed.”
“Fuck you.” Jace flicked his hand away in a flash and said, “Don’t touch me you fucking faggot.”
“If only I was a faggot.” Grid sighed and said, “Damn the last few days on the ocean have been distracting, the women on the ship are so soft it feels like they’re going to break a bone if they touch them, and the only one who can fight is still injured.”
“Not for a few days, go ashore in Southsea Town to find the Valkyrie you aspire to.” Jace said.
Grid laughed a few times until the expression on his face faded a little.
“I still want to bring up that arena thing, Jace, not for you to fight in the arena or anything, of course, but for you to say that you’ll hold me back ……”
He shook his head, “I have a feeling that I might not be able to beat you now.”
