Chapter 104: A Curse for a Curse
by Jessie@AFNCCThe two warlocks stared at each other in the dim light of the house at night.
The younger Jace was expressionless, while the much older Gagin looked visibly weakened by the beating he had just taken and the fact that he had been saved by the man in front of him.
“We are both men who walk in the ways of the dark arts, and I know that you know the spells as well as I do, Jace.” Gakin’s tone was rather deflated as he whispered, “I like your new found spells, can you tell me where you found them?”
Jace said, “In short, it wasn’t gotten at the Black Iron Dwarves. But you saw the effect, Gakin, even a fighter like Erland can take it. And if you look at my state, the spell didn’t take too much wear and tear, I think I can even start it twice more without a problem.”
“The perfect spell for dealing with thugs.” Garkin nodded, taking a bottle of rum from a nearby cabinet, taking a sip and saying, “This spell is worth a lot of money, Jace, and you’re asking when I’m going to hold the coven because you want to publicize this spell to the entire group?”
“Yes.” Jess said, “Unless you think otherwise.”
“I don’t have anything else in mind, and I’ll make it public if I get it from you.” Gakin took a booklet down from a nearby cabinet and flipped through the pages and said, “As a bonus, look here …… Jace, I have three other spells I got from the Black Iron Dwarves that were never made public within the group because I felt that the warlocks, no one but you and Galdus, were entitled to access to these spells, and it would be blasphemy to allow them to practice any of these precious secret words.”
Jace watched as Gagin talked more and more, he seemed to have a different goal in this pursuit of dark magic than Erland, Sulenna, or even Galdus and the rest of them.
Many who practice warlock magic are actually like Jace, seeking the warlock path after missing out on entering the Wizard’s Sanctum for various reasons, being rejected by the arcane arts, and wanting to get stronger and master magic.
But it was as if Gagin pursued darkness for the sake of pursuing darkness, and when confronted with a wide variety of spells, he always displayed a fascination with dark magic itself.
“The first spell, the Black Iron Dwarves call it the Magic Eye spell.” Gakin said, “This spell is very powerful and very difficult to learn, Jace. It requires a very high level of mastery of the Shadow, which I have not mastered very well. Specifically, it was created by a very high status orc warlock to create an eye with the power of shadow to lurk in the darkness and help you peer into everything.”
Kilrogg’s Eye, Jace knows this warlock magic, there are not many occasions where this magic can be used in the game, but here …… there is no doubt that this is quite a useful thing.
Gagin continued, “The second spell, named Reckless Curse, it can turn people into complete lunatics, knowing why those orc warriors fought so crazily, I suspect they were all hit by the Reckless Curse of the warlocks in their own rear. This spell is very effective, I’ve already used it on Sulenna, you know what I mean …… maybe we can try it on Erland someday …… ha!”
Looking at his expression, Jace could almost guess why Gagin had cast the Reckless Curse on Sulenna.
It s just that Jace is not a fan of either magic, Eye of Kilrogg …… What does he need to control an eye for? If he was a thief, spy, intelligence officer, or whatever, he might need to utilize the little eye more for stealthy work.
And the Reckless Curse …… For the time being he couldn’t use the spell from either angle, the Reckless Curse made people incredibly heroic and maniacal, but at the same time increased their combat power, and in this world it might be possible to cast it on one’s friends, allowing them to realize their maximum combat potential.
But Jace would never put it on Grider, because Grider was already reckless enough, and if he were to give him another Reckless Curse, he was afraid that it would become a Death Sending Curse.
“What about the third?” He asked.
Gakin turned the page and said, “The third one I failed to learn, I must admit, but the dwarves showed me this spell, Jace, a spell the dwarves call the Blood Drawing Spell.”
“A blood-drawing spell?”
Jace thought to himself, Life sucking?
“What exactly is the effect?” He asked.
Gakin said, “This spell is able to extract the enemy’s blood and transform it into your own, doesn’t that sound scary? But the effect is actually not as strong as one would think. I watched that master dwarf unleash this spell on a goat, the spell lasted for a while, the goat began to lose its hair in large patches and its skin became wrinkled, but it lasted for almost a minute, the goat didn’t even die, and loosened its bindings and struggled to stand up again after the spell ended. Instead, the Master Dwarf became very tired.”
“In other words, the vitality extracted is not even as strong as the spirit lost Jace, the reason I find this spell so valuable is because it is qualitatively different from the others, isn’t it? This is to extract a person’s living person ah …… is like the vampire in the legend is addictive, but …… too bad, perhaps its inventor is toward the direction of the vampire in the legend efforts, the result did not receive the desired effect. “
Though Jace didn’t know who created the life-sucking spell, he knew that each of the Nasrezim Dreadlords in the game were masters of bloodsucking, and that their life-sucking was ridiculously strong.
That is, it wasn’t so much how weak the spell itself was, but rather that both Gagin and the dwarf may have run into the same problem they had with the Curse of Weakness – the source of the spell was inaccurate, and so it was cast poorly.
That said, even the Black Iron Dwarf warlocks are only a little more authoritative than the small group of warlocks here, not absolute authority.
It didn’t matter, Jace was almost certain that the spell was a demonic language spell, and when he got back, he could get Saeuno to help proofread it to see what was wrong.
“Just learn this.” He said.
“Are you sure?” Gakin asked with some skepticism.
“OK.”
“It seems that you are as far along as I am, Jace-chan, after all, the reckless pursuit of practicality is undoubtedly a blasphemy against the arts, so this spell of life-sucking …… is certainly the best interpretation of the dark arts, isn’t it? So sometimes Erland has a good point, some spells really aren’t powerful enough.”
Jace nodded, though he didn’t want to agree at all.
What’s the point of calling it magic if it doesn’t work? Why don’t you go enlarge the salute?
After reaching an agreement on the deal, Jace wrote down the incantation for the Weakness Spell in the universal language alphabet and handed it to Gagin, then explained to him about the casting gestures and the precautions for reciting the spell, etc., and Gagin read it quite attentively.
After that, he gave Jace the life-drawing page from that booklet.
“You don’t keep it for yourself?”
“It’s just a copy of it, you yourself are perfectly capable of taking it and keeping it for yourself.” Gakin said, “Other spells, Jace, take something of value, or a spell, if you want to trade, like today, after all, we are a group with a spirit of sharing.”
