Surviving the Game as a Barbarian – 66
by Jessie@AFNCC
Episode 66: Field Boss (2)
Hierarchical monarch.
A field boss that exists on each floor.
These guys who have different names attributes and patterns have one thing in common.
No matter what you do it is impossible to deal with an explorer level on that floor.
For example to subdue a first-tier lord an expeditionary force of 30 or more people had to be formed.
Of course assuming that everyone is at least a 4th floor explorer.
That’s really the minimum number of people.
That’s why I was worried.
Misha and me.
If the two of you even happen to run into him it’s game over at that moment. It’s impossible to outrun him at normal movement speed.
So where should we go?
What can I do to increase my chances of survival rather than simply shaking and praying that I don’t encounter it?
The answer was to head to the orc colony.
Like most explorers here.
“Bjorn why are there so many people here?”
“Because the Dzarwi Clan is here.”
Dzarwi Clan is a large clan that operates on the 6th floor and above. From what the dwarf said it seemed like the number of people was in the hundreds.
There’s no way they all gathered in one place at the right time…
‘At least 10 teams must have come down. Even though it’s on the third floor you need that many people to control the hunting ground.’
Of course subjugation is difficult even with this level of power.
Well if you can take the damage there’s nothing you can’t do but…
This is also assuming that you know the correct strategy and have prepared carefully for several months.
‘Still if I stay with them I’ll be able to buy time to escape even if I encounter a hierarchical lord.’
Having made a decision strictly based on practicality I led Misha towards the crowded group of explorers.
A quite strange situation was unfolding.

“Look at this! I heard there is a high-ranking wizard among you! Please use the portal magic for me! “I’ll pay any amount of money…!”
“It’s you! “You summoned a hierarchy lord!!”
“Hey what happens to us over there? “It’s a large clan so they won’t kick us out right?”
One who asks earnestly.
A person who ignores reality and looks for an object of resentment.
A person who calmly tries to understand the current situation.
Amid the cries of various people an official of the Dzarwi Clan opened his mouth.
“Everyone please calm down. It’s safe here. “Our priest has declared destruction and our investigators are already on guard in all directions.”
“We the Dzarwi Clan will do our best to ensure that as many explorers as possible can survive and enter the city in this disaster situation in accordance with the regulations agreed upon with the royal family and guild.”
“but! If there is someone who does not follow our control or creates chaos! “We have no choice but to take deportation measures so please understand this part.”
It doesn’t feel like it’s too detailed but it was a neat notice in its own way.
In particular the last warning seemed to have been effective as those who were shouting arbitrarily disappeared.
“For now I don’t have to worry about getting kicked out.”
“Whew that’s a relief….”
After looking around for a moment I sat down in a suitable place with my back to a tree.
“…Aren’t you being too relaxed?”
“Isn’t there anything else we can do?”
When you can rest you should rest as much as possible.
Because no one knows how the situation will change in the future.
“Hmm that’s right.”
Soon Misha must have been convinced and sat down next to me.
“Misha just in case I’m asking is she confident in her ears?”
“I don’t know but sometimes people say they like my ears.”
What does he say again?
“It meant whether you are good at hearing distant sounds.”
“Oh I’m pretty confident about that.”
“Then listen carefully to their conversation. “It’s obvious so don’t stare.”
“I understand.”
At my direction Misha leaned back and closed her eyes.
And as if she was concentrating her triangular ears that stood out on top of her head kept pricking up.
“Well I’m not sure but it looks like they’re fighting.”
“not without reason?”
“I can’t hear that much detail because the distance is far away. One thing is certain: we are talking about hierarchical monarchs.”
That’s right.
Is there anything else the executives urgently need to talk about in this situation?
‘If you get closer you’ll notice so I guess this is the best…’
“First of all keep eavesdropping. “If there’s anything special let me know then.”

“I understand.”
After returning to eavesdropping mode Misha slowly looked around to see the crowd’s reaction.
Some complaints or anxiety symptoms anyway.
In general the atmosphere was one of relief.
“I thought something like this would happen only when I got kicked out of here but I really don’t know what’s going on in the world.”
“That’s right. “For such a widespread declaration of annihilation a clan of that size must have a priest like that along with it.”
“I can’t say anything other than that God helped me. “For the first time in 10 years a class monarch appeared on the 3rd floor and they just happened to come down to the 3rd floor?”
Despite the evil deeds committed by the Dzarwi Clan by occupying the orc colony most people were satisfied and grateful with the current situation.
Well not everything was like that.
“Look are you the only two?”
As I was observing my surroundings a man approached me.
She probably doesn’t mean to start a fight here.
“What is it for?”
“It’s no big deal. In times like these shouldn’t we stick together?”
“simply.”
“The Dzarwi side said they would protect us but since they don’t know what will happen will they act together?”
Well I guess we’ll cooperate at least temporarily.
“About thirty people have already gathered. “It looks like you also lost a colleague because of this incident so wouldn’t it be nice to have someone you can rely on for a little while?”
I checked one thing before answering.
“This is Bjorn son of Yandel. “What is your name?”
“Jack Fletcher.”
Okay as long as it’s not Hans.
“good night.”
Let’s just say we understand.
If you feel something is wrong just keep your mouth shut.
It’s not like I signed any documents or anything.
“As expected of a barbarian it’s refreshing. Well then I’ll just leave and take a rest. “I’ll come see you later if something happens.”
“i get it.”
Soon the man left and about two hours passed without any incident.
Thanks to the high-ranking priest’s declaration of annihilation the spirits of chaos were unable to approach and there seemed to be nothing that could be a variable.
First of all if we only look at external factors that is the case.
“Misha wake up.”
I shook Misha who had switched from eavesdropping mode to sleeping mode to wake him up.
“Is something wrong?”
Not yet.
But if my prediction is correct….
“It will happen soon.”
“What do you mean?”
“Look around. Even though there are more people there are too many.”
The Dzarwi Clan accepted the refugees unconditionally.
And finally the limit was reached.
The area currently declared extinct is only about twice the size of the school playground.
It’s not even a vacant lot because it’s a forest.
But now I think there are already over 500 people.
“…Shouldn’t they be allowed in there anymore?”
“If I accept any more than this I won’t even be able to sit down.”
“If a monster comes in in that state….”
Selfishness always thrives on circumstances.
There was anxiety among those who came in first and such claims slowly began to emerge.
“Bjorn what happens to us now?”
“Well it will depend on how Dzarwi decides.”
Accepting it to its limits.
They stopped asking here and locked the door.
The clan side will also have to make a choice.
In fact not long after that there was a re-announcement from the clan executive.
“Due to the declaration of annihilation this place is the only safe zone on the third floor. It is truly a miracle that will never happen again. but….”
If we were to summarize it without any nonsense the content was simple.
“The priest wants your work to show respect to God.”
Respect.
Please note that it did not mean immaterial values such as prayer conversion or worship.
“One million stones per person. “It must be paid immediately and on the spot and it can also be paid in stone or in kind.”
No one believed that this was a request from a priest.
Well there must have been an agreement between the two…
It must have been the clan guys who suggested it first.
‘At first you pretended to be honorable by being a royal family a guild etc. but in the end you chose practical benefits.’
Even if you block refugees from entering you will still be criticized for your decision later.
Therefore it seems that they decided that it would be better to make money than that.
Of course there is bound to be backlash.
“There is no way there are that many magic stones and in the end in this situation they are asking us to give up our equipment but this is not just telling us to die!”
The person who raised his voice the loudest was Jack Flitzer.
“We the 100-member death squad will never stand by and watch your tyranny!”
With a powerful shout Jack Flitzer looked around. I noticed it in advance and was looking somewhere else so I was able to avoid making eye contact.
But was it the same for the other 100 death-defying members?
“Uh uh uh… everyone please say something. “We can’t stand against their tyranny if we just stay quiet…!”
Jack Flitzer is embarrassed and stutters his words.
With that the short protest ended.
“One million stones is a tribute to God and a protection fee. “Some parts of the equipment may be missing right now but we are here so what are you worried about?”
Of course you’re worried you bastard.
Although Declaring Destruction is a devastating skill it is nothing more than a piece of paper for a hierarchical monarch.
Of course it was just a complaint I had inside.
Because I am a barbarian who knows how to compromise with reality.
“Leave consumables like Missha potions alone and take out only the things we don’t need as much as possible.”
“Okay.”
Like other explorers we hurriedly rummaged through our backpacks to find things we could cash in on.
There was equipment looted from looters earlier so there was no need to take off what you were wearing.
‘After resting on the dirt floor it costs 1 million stones a day…’
It’s a damn waste but considering it’s the cost of declaring annihilation it’s worth paying.
Moreover didn’t you just say it with a hint?
The amount also includes protection fees.
“If they don’t hit the price on the other side this should be enough.”
After collecting some of the religious party’s equipment we finished preparing for the reward.
However not everyone’s situation was as good as ours.
Still since I’m a 3rd floor explorer if I hand over the equipment I’m wearing it’ll be worth 1 million stones…
“If I don’t have this I’m going to starve to death next time?”
“I only have to survive for one day but paying 1 million stones is not worth it.”
Although it may be considered a minority a significant number of people refused to pay protection money and chose to go outside voluntarily.
The clan didn’t catch those people either.
And new arrivals continued to receive protection fees.
To at least three hundred people.
‘Did he earn at least 300 million stones? And that’s just in one day…’
This is almost like money being copied.
Fuck is strength truly invincible and godlike?
I don’t know but in the end they also had to pray to heaven.
If the hierarchical monarch arrives here.
Because at that moment the rice cake market will begin.
‘If I hadn’t assumed that situation in the first place I wouldn’t have had to pay protection fees.’
I always feel this but the kids here all lack imagination.
Of course they would have a basis for this choice.
Since the third floor is large they probably thought that the probability of not encountering a hierarchical monarch was higher than the probability of encountering one.
Today is the 15th day so you probably thought that even if you ran into one you would just have to endure it for one day.
With this level of power that is possible.
Yeah you thought so.
Just in the best possible way.
Just in a way that is advantageous to them.
But they need to know.
In the first place no one knew that the layer lord would be summoned and all the explorers on the layer would stop hunting and encounter a situation like this.
‘Well that’s the same for me too.’
But at least I imagine.
The worst thing that could happen to me.
Of course this imagination is more often than not realized in reality but…
What will it be like this time?
‘You’ll know when you watch.’
I quietly closed my eyes.
Since then time has passed like the calm before the storm.
[19:07]
There are 5 hours left until the 15th day ends.
Toad toad toad toad –
Black rainwater fell from the ceiling between the trees soaking the ground black.
“The location will be eroded and [Declaration of Destruction] will be lifted.”
The pure white pattern that covered the ground instantly lost its shine.
also.
[Gooooooooh—!!]
Outside the forest a huge beast began to howl.
