Surviving the Game as a Barbarian – 30
by Jessie@AFNCC
Episode 30: Bloody Fortress (1)
All gamers have a habit of pressing the interaction key when a suspicious wall appears or an unusual sculpture appears.
I too was the same.
And that habit helped me discover numerous ‘hidden pieces’ or hidden elements while playing [Dungeon & Stone] for 9 years.
For example like the fountain statue here.
“Bjorn?”
“Oh I’m going.”
I left my discomfort behind and followed the group into the inner sanctuary.
I decided not to bring up the topic of the statue.
A barbarian knows something that even a wizard who devotes his entire life to learning doesn’t know?
‘It would be better to avoid anything that would cause suspicion.’
Not only is it clear that lying about seeing it in a book won’t work this time but isn’t ‘that item’ an item that can’t be taken outside even with distortion magic?
“This is my inner city.”
If the outer castle served as the first line of defense in the Middle Ages the inner castle was closer to the last bastion.
Originally this was a place where the lord’s vassals and knights would have been stationed and various military facilities such as armories would have existed.
Raven looked around and sighed.
“…I heard it but I guess there’s nothing to save at this rate.”
The inner city which was one-third the size of the outer castle was horribly destroyed.
All the buildings have collapsed leaving only the foundations.
There weren’t even monsters here.
“Let’s move on quickly.”
After clearing away the rubble for about 30 minutes under Raven’s direction we found a path leading underground.
“Could Mr. Murad please take the lead?”
“I guess so!”
“Oh since we need to conserve magical power please light the torch as well.”
The dwarf took out a torch and put it on his head.

Perhaps because he is short he looks like a mole miner from a cartoon.
Grumble!
We pushed aside the thick wooden plank and slowly went down the stairs hidden underneath.
The third chapter dungeon of the Bloody Citadel.
I swallowed my saliva and changed my mind.
“We have entered the first floor of the dungeon.”
Oh I’m not good at seeing creepy things…
***
“Miss Raven what kind of monsters do you see here?”
“I understand that there are Skull Rat Banshee Desfiend Chimera Wolf Ghoul Lord and Corpse Golem.”
“Except for the corpse golem I’ve dealt with all the monsters.”
“You will. Corpse golems are monsters that only appear in the Bloody Citadel.”
“Hahaha it’s been a while since I’ve been able to accumulate achievements!”
The dwarf was happy that he could increase his experience by fighting new monsters.
But I couldn’t do that.
Even the illustrations were so terrible how disgusting it must be in reality.
“Is there anything else I need to be careful about?”
“You just have to be careful of the flesh explosion. Although the explosive power is not very strong it can be fatal if hit at close range due to the acid poison mixed in the body fluids. Of course I will stop it before that happens.”
“Haha! “There’s nothing to be afraid of because there’s a wizard!”
“It’s all possible because there are strong warriors like Mr. Murad.”
Damn.
Whenever we stare at each other as if we’re going to kill each other and start a war of words over the loot.
Trudging.
As soon as I went down the last stairs a maze-like dungeon unfolded before my eyes.
Inside the cage dead men were chained and growling and skeletal rats were running around on the floor making strange noises.
“Bjorn are these monsters too?”
“This is the Skull Rat I mentioned earlier.”
“Wizard I didn’t ask you!”
For reference the rating is unrated like Deadman.
In fact we didn’t have enough fighting power to call it a monster so we trampled on everything we saw and moved forward.
And before long I encountered a banshee.
“Kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!”
The banshee was flying around in a vengeful state with only the outline of its grotesque face visible.
“B Bjorn….”
Ah he was afraid of the banshee.
Raven chuckled as she saw Einar slightly clinging to me.
I’m glad Einar didn’t see it. Otherwise she would have screamed loudly again.

“Be careful not to bump into the banshee. “It’s not that dangerous if you do it once or twice but…”
“…but?”
“It will be a very very terrible experience.”
“Oh what a very very terrible experience? What does that mean! “Be precise wizard!”
“well. Shall I leave it to your imagination?”
Raven smiled as she looked at Einar whose complexion had not turned red.
Seeing him taking revenge in this way it seems like he doesn’t have a very good personality.
I sighed inwardly and joined the conversation.
“I heard that wizards have a way to deal with banshee.”
“Hmm I heard you like books so I guess you have a wide range of knowledge?”
Is this something that can be said to have broad perspectives?
Well if the premise is that you are playing a barbarian then that may be true but…
Still this is probably within the cutoff line.
“Then let’s stop joking around and start sorting out the banshees. Teirun Shell.”
Soon an arrow of light created from Raven’s staff shot out and pierced the banshee.
The name of the magic in the game is Magic Poetry.
Since it was a basic attack spell that was no different from a wizard’s normal attack there was no casting time.
“Kkihiiiiiiiik!!!”
After waiting for a while dozens of Banshee began to flock in spouting fierce hatred.
He sensed the ‘sign’ left behind by his colleague upon his death.
From the perspective of a wizard who possessed many powerful AoE skills this would have been welcome news.
“Iherno Haindar.”
Baptism of fire.
Flames emitted from the magic wand filled the straight passage.
And when the fire died down.
There were no banshee left.
Whoa!
This time too the magic stones that fell on the floor floated in the air and went into my pocket.
Actually I envy this the most more than the attack spell.
You don’t have to pick up the magic stones one by one.
How long will it take to bring a wizard to the team?…
Once again I think there is still a long way to go.
***
The 2D world beyond the monitor and reality are different.
Even more so if it’s a chill that passes through your skin.
“The character has entered the second floor of the dungeon.”
The dungeon I experienced firsthand felt almost like a mad scientist’s laboratory.
A chimera wolf with three or four heads and bulging muscles like a mutant.
A ghoul lord who carries thirty elder ghouls.
Not only did these 8th grade monsters all have grotesque appearances but each and every small prop around them was reminiscent of horror games.
The point of Hwaryong starts now.
“By the way Ms. Raven is amazing. “Isn’t it scary?”
“well. Because I really like anatomy. “I don’t mind this much.”
Damn that’s not barbarian dissection is it?
Come to think of it I heard that the reason why Barbarian hearts are sold so expensively is because they are magic ingredients…
“Ah we’ve arrived.”
After hunting down all the monsters in the dungeon we reached the third basement level and discovered a hidden door leading to the underground space of the collapsed Lord’s Castle.
Originally I would have had to get the map from the guard’s office first but…
“It’s a good thing I memorized the map in advance and came in because the door is hidden behind the wall.”
Thanks to Raven’s thorough preparation there was no wandering.
Well even if I was alone I would have found it just fine.
Because the structure of the dungeon matched the game.
‘But that’s probably possible because I’m all a player.’
I can once again feel the status of a wizard.
Powerful attack magic.
High utility support system abilities such as Wound Aggravation Curse.
The knowledge you would have accumulated by reading countless books.
It’s not for nothing that wizards are treated more than priests on the team.
“It would be best to leave your backpack in front of here. At least Mr. Yandel.”
Feeling a little embarrassed I set down my extra-large backpack which went from my head to my thighs in front of the door.
…If I earn money I should buy a magic backpack first.
This isn’t the first time I’ve felt uncomfortable because of this.
“Ah from now on Mr. Yandel please light the torch as well.”
Following Raven’s instructions I also fixed the torch above my head.
With this all preparations are completed.
Squeak squeak squeak –
When I open the iron door by turning the round valve a rotten stench rushes in.
“It’s a completely unexpected place.”
“Demon Wizard… Do I really have to go in here?”
“I hate it to the point of death but I can’t help it.”
A space reminiscent of a wastewater treatment plant.
The cylindrical walls were lined with large water pipes dripping with something that looked like dark waste.
also.
There was a mountain of broken and severed limbs and heads piled up on the floor and the gas that had accumulated as they decayed stung my nose and gave me a headache.
“Week week!”
The first to vomit was the porter.
The guy who was holding Raven’s weight next to her as if she was guarding him recited what was inside with a completely expressionless face.
The second was Raven.
“Wook wow!”
Although he may have visual tolerance due to his extensive dissection experience he appears to be vulnerable to smell.
Surprisingly I held on.
Even though there was a scene before my eyes that would have made me faint in the past it had no effect on the body of this good-natured barbarian.
“I’m glad you’re okay. “Let’s move forward.”
Feeling an indescribable feeling I slowly approached the center.
Jiik.
Every time I walked it made a sound like I was stepping on a sponge.
And as the light got closer to the center the huge shape that was only an outline in the darkness became clearer.
“hi.”
To our surprise it spoke to us.
In a female voice like a broken guidance audio tape.
“Beat it! fat! Please save me! me! “It’s delicious dad kihi!”
Uh um uh….
Honestly it was a bit shocking.
“after….”
Sir you were originally quiet in the game.
Why are you doing this to me?
It’s a shame that comes out of nowhere but nothing will change if you lament about it.
Looking to the side even the trustworthy dwarf was frozen.
“Everyone come to your senses!!”
He immediately shouted and woke up his dazed team members.
But was he at least stimulated by this?
“father! father! it hurts! it hurts! It hurts! “It hurts!!”
The pile of corpses that had been curled up stood up and took a step forward with something that I couldn’t tell if was a foot or something.
Kuuuung-!
The mid-boss of the Bloody Citadel.
It was a corpse golem.

Although [Dungeon & Stone] is the culmination of minor games it is not without its popular aspects.
At least one illustration was famous.
This is because the lively illustrations which seem to have been taken from black and white photos are often used as so-called ‘pictures’ on the Internet.
Few people actually knew that the illustrations came from a game.
I realized it once more.
“Shiba.”
No matter how realistic a painting is it cannot match the real thing.
“it hurts! it hurts! It hurts!!!!”
Is this what it would feel like if you gathered thousands of people’s arms legs and heads and put them all together?
Each one even moves individually as if it has will.
The same goes for hundreds of mouths.
Each person pours out what they want to say without any control.
Most of them are moment-to-moment emotions that have no logic such as painful cold resentful kill me save me.
“Kyaaaaaaaagh—!”
Well either that or it was just a scream.
Everyone was once again dumbfounded by the creepy harmony created by the combination of all kinds of bizarre voices.
“Hikuro! “Be careful!”
A wizard said to be good at anatomy.
A third-year dwarf who must have encountered numerous monsters.
A human man who gave off an air that seemed quite worthy of being a transporter.
They treated the two novice barbarians like little pieces but…
Surprisingly the only ones who didn’t lose their cool at this moment were me and Einar.
“What is everyone doing!”
At that time Einar who was keeping a close eye on the corpse golem lifted the dwarf by the scruff of his neck.
Quaaaang!
A pile of corpses flew in like a shot put and exploded on the spot. And the blood and flesh scattered and stuck to Einar and the dwarf.
Chiiik!
Fortunately Einar was not hit because he was wearing clothes but the dwarf was different.
“Ahh! eye! My eyes…!”
It looks like it somehow got into the narrow gap in the helmet and hit the eye.
In an instant the dwarf was neutralized.
And the wizard who said to only trust himself…
“Week waeeek!”
He’s still throwing up.
…What do you guys really do?
Somehow things got resolved easily.
There’s no way that’s possible.
“Ainar! “Take the dwarf and go back and protect the wizard!”
As I shouted I raised my shield upward and faced the corpse golem.
There was no choice.
I don’t want to stand out as much as possible but…
Aren’t the bus drivers and the guys who installed them doing something stupid?
“Behel—laaaa!!”
If you want to survive you have no choice but to take the wheel yourself.
