    Chapter Index

Shirley wasn’t on good terms with her, nor was she bad, falling into the category of just a nodding coworker.

Normally Maureen would call her Sister Shirley.

It’s kind of like respecting your predecessor.

Standing in the doorway of Maureen’s put up, Shirley once again confirmed that no one was around before she raised her hand and gently knocked on the door.

There was a muffled sound from the house, and it was clear that Maureen was still awake.

But instead of answering first, she waited a few seconds before cautiously asking, “Who is it?”

Shirley lowered her voice, “It’s me, Shirley.”

Soft footsteps came from inside the door.

    Splat–

The door lock rattles and the door panel opens inward.

But it was only open a crack, revealing one side of Maureen’s face.

She wasn’t much of a looker, plain, and her expression looked a little tense, not like she’d fallen asleep and just woken up.

Maureen’s eyes glanced hastily at Shirley’s face, then she lowered her eyes, her voice ending slightly, “What is it that Sister Shirley wants to see me about this late at night?”

Shirley put her hands on her chest, her eyes were clear and cold, and her tone was even colder, “Constantine is already dead, there is no point for us to continue to stay here, let’s escape while there are not many guards patrolling tonight.”

Maureen’s body stiffened slightly, clearly taken aback by Shirley’s sudden remark.

She hurriedly looked away from her head and returned with a sticky voice, “What are you saying, Sister Shirley, I…I don’t understand.”

Shirley grunted, “Didn’t Constantine tell you? Heh, but he won’t get a chance to say it again. Do you really think this old man would only send you alone to gather information in the Silver Dragon Clan? It would be hard to escape death if you were discovered.”

At those words, Maureen tightly bit her lower lip, and the hand pinching the hem of her skirt unconsciously clenched into a fist.

After dwelling on it for a little while, she finally gathered her courage and looked up at Shirley, “Sister Shirley, I really don’t understand what you’re saying. I won’t tell anyone what you told me tonight, so go back. I…I’m going to sleep.”

With that, Maureen was about to close the door to her room.

But Shirley had a quick hand and slapped it right on the door panel.

There was a snap that startled Maureen.

She shrank back, a little quiver in her voice, “Shirley-san ……”

“I’ve gotten word that Losweather and Leon are about to go through the Silver Dragons from top to bottom, and you and I both know what happens when you’re caught being an undercover spy in the Dragon’s Law. If we don’t leave now, we’ll never get another chance.”

“I…I ……,” Maureen faltered, panic written in her eyes.

“Tomorrow, first thing in the morning, Anna will rush all the maids and silver dragon guards, then question and investigate them one by one.”

“Maureen, are you sure you haven’t left a single trace when you passed on information all these years? Indeed
