    Chapter Index

Getting back into shape, the whole One Clan operation is gradually getting on track.

The only one who makes this possible, Los Vespers, appears to be at odds with the larger picture.

Leon could sense that her low spirits and sadness did not come from the stress of her job.

It was something that was bothering her.

Over the past few days, Loseweather’s emotional problems had gotten worse.

Sometimes even avoiding Leon on purpose.

That left Leon scratching his head.

Had he said something wrong and pissed her off?

They shouldn’t, they know each other well enough to know where the other’s line is and shut up when they sense they’re about to step over it.

What’s more, if she were really pissed off, with her character of Loseweather, she would have either done this on the spot or to Leon, not be depressed for many days as she was now.

After much hesitation, Leon decided to talk to her.

In the late afternoon, some time before dinner, Los Vespers ended her day’s work and sat alone on the swing in the backyard.

The light of the setting sun dragged her shadow a long, long way, her silver hair fluttering gently with the evening breeze, her pretty face full of sorrow.

The swing swings were small, the chains gently rubbing against the wooden planks, making a not-so-noisy creaking sound.

Silver eyes looked at the ground, thoughts going back a long time.

“I want you to promise me one thing, don’t let Leon return to the Empire for a year.”

That was what they had agreed to when she first met with Tag.

But at the time, Loseweather wasn’t even trying to spare Leon.

Let alone a year, even if it was ten or a hundred years, she would keep Leon by her side and be her captive for the rest of her life.

It was punishment for this arrogant human offending her.

Yet so much had happened in the meantime, and her relationship with Leon was slowly shifting in a subtle way.

Neither she nor Leon had any intention of learning about the other’s race through each other, for a single individual could never represent an entire pack.

They are only focused on getting to know each other.

And the more time they spent together, the more Leon’s image in Loseweather’s mind was different than it had been at first.

    In the past, she’d only thought of him as an enemy, an asshole who’d sicken her a little even when he was dead;

But as his daughters grew up, his own October pregnancy, and finally the birth of his second baby, the process revealed those more beautiful qualities in Leon one by one.

    Responsibility, accountability and integrity.

Of all the people that Loseweather has come in contact with, Leon is the one who has demonstrated these three points the best.

There is no doubt that he is an excellent father, and he is quite qualified as a false husband.

His love was pure, and when he poured all his love into someone, that person would undoubtedly be the happiest in the world.

From the very beginning, he had not disliked his daughters because they were half-breeds born of his union with his enemy, but had done everything in his power to love them unreservedly.
