    Chapter Index

Leon looked at the notification letter in his hand, which was brief:

Mr. Leon, Ms. Losweather, Noa has recently been in a physical altercation with other students at the academy, please come to the academy first thing tomorrow morning to discuss the matter.

Leon didn’t know what it was like in the dragon press.

Anyway, in the Empire, the shorter the news, the bigger the story.

What’s more, the Academy had sent Shinryu here overnight and asked to be here in the morning.

It might actually be true, as Lois Visser said, that it’s not a small thing.

Leon pursed his lips, his expression serious.

He opened his mouth to voice his concerns as well.

But when he saw the apprehensive, worried look on Los Vesper’s face, he swallowed whatever he had to say.

Leon was certainly worried about Noa, but if he voiced those concerns now, it would be like adding to Loseweather’s anxiety.

Leon can’t add more fuel to the fire.

It was about his daughter, and both he and Loseweather had tacitly put aside their past grudges.

Leon put away the notification letter and gently tugged on Loseweather’s arm, “Go back and rest first.”

Loswither said nothing and silently followed Leon into the house.

She sat on the edge of the bed, looking down and fiddling with her nails, not saying a word.

Leon also had the good sense not to seek her out and instead silently tidied up the room they had just cluttered.

The chair was put back in its place, the rope tossed back into the storage room, and the black silk folded and stored in the closet.

Then he made another cup of hot water and placed it at the foot of Los Vespers’ bed.

Finally, he half crouched down in front of Lois Visser, looked up at her, and

“Get an early night and we’ll leave for the academy first thing in the morning. I’ll sleep in the living room, so call me if you can’t sleep.”

Leon looked at the back of Loseweather’s hand and hesitated, he remembered that Loseweather was nervous during her last interview and he wanted to pat the back of her hand to comfort her as well.

But in the end it was just a pat on her shoulder.

    And this time ……

Leon, after a moment’s hesitation, reached out his hand and gently covered the back of Lois Visser’s slightly cool hand with a

    “So, that’s it.”

With that, Leon stood up, left the bedroom, and went to the living room.

Lois Visser looked up at his back, the back of her hand still warm from the rest of his palm.

She opened her mouth to call out to him.

But the words came out of her mouth, but she swallowed them back.

Lois Visser lowered her eyes and caught the rest of her gaze on the family group photo that sat on the nightstand.

She reached for it, her fingertips brushing against Noa’s face as she

    “You mustn’t get hurt, Noa.”
