    Episode 89

    3.

A staff member to manage the porters was assigned ten minutes later.

“Is that the end of the seven today? There are fewer people than expected. I am the supervisor in charge of you today.”

A man wearing black horn-rimmed glasses frowned as he examined the faces of the porters including me.

When a person who is already disliked frowns the dislike index rises rapidly.

The guy took a small machine out of his pocket. It was a simple magic meter that I had seen in the old Ability Management Department.

“Please come forward one by one and be measured. This is a process to weed out any potential troublemakers so please cooperate obediently.”

The measurement process proceeded very quickly.

As I heard from Mr. Jin Seo-jun most of the day laborers were people with no fighting ability.

There are four people with magical powers that are far lower than Jin Seo-jun.

    Two ordinary people.

It may seem natural considering that most players who can enhance their physical abilities through magic are employed by professional companies rather than day laborers.

“Are there three regular people today?”

I was naturally classified as an ordinary person.

Because the magic meter can’t detect divine power. And that’s why Director Kim recommended that I go undercover like this.

Anyway the simple inspection process was over and the supervisor handed us yellow name tags.

“The first section will be cleared in 10 minutes so you will be deployed in 10 minutes. I understand that it was announced in advance that if you don’t meet your quota your daily wage will be deducted. So at least warm up.”

The supervisor said this and then took a cigarette out of his pocket and walked away from us for a moment.

Only after we were far enough away that he couldn’t hear us did discontent erupt among the porters.

    “You sons of bitches.”

“You didn’t even mention cutting the daily wages… phew.”

But that was only for a moment.

Even among the Potters a division quickly developed: the Awakened and the common people.

The Awakened porters began to chatter amongst themselves as if they had already been talking to each other before I arrived.

And soon the most foul-looking of the Awakened Potters approached me.

He had an extremely cowardly expression on his face in front of the supervisor but when he looked at me his face showed open contempt and ridicule.

“Are you an ordinary person too?”

    “But?”

“But? Hey look at this kid.”

The man raised his hand and threatened me.

It was as if he was about to slap me at any moment.

I stared at his hand blankly and said nothing. Then thinking that he had succeeded in taking the initiative he pressed his hand to my forehead and said:

“Ah shit. Let’s stop talking. What’s wrong with you normal people like that? Hey. Go over to Mr. Park and tell him what you have to do. When entering the dungeon normal people are supposed to bring their own equipment. Whoa! Whoa.”

As he said this he spat at my feet and then returned to his group.

Just because someone is weak doesn’t mean they are necessarily a good person.

Even among the weak there are plenty of bad guys.

It was so in Eden and it is so on Earth.

Humans are not beings that can be easily divided into black and white logic such as the strong being evil and the weak being good.

But that doesn’t mean you have to be pessimistic about everything in the world.

    Like these bat-like things.

    “Are you okay?”

    “Oh yes.”

“Here have a sip of water. Are you tired from climbing the mountain?”

There are people who do favors like this man who handed me a bottle of water.

I quietly ran my hand over the calluses on his hands. Then I smiled and handed him the bottle of water.

    “thank you.”

“Not at all. Everyone tends to be sensitive before entering a dungeon so don’t take that person’s words too seriously. It’s a D-class dungeon so there won’t be much equipment so you don’t have to worry.”

“Ah a person named Mr. Park?”

    “My name is Park Jeong-su.”

He smiled and offered his hand and I answered taking his hand.

    “This is Kim In-wook.”

I didn’t feel particularly guilty because I was saying my brother’s name. And more than that as soon as I held his hand I felt a sense of familiarity.

It wasn’t magic but it wasn’t divine either.

It was certain that this person was an ordinary person who had not awakened as a player.

    ‘This is fate too.’

I felt ‘faith’ in that person’s body.

    That too faith in Limen.

Before we even held hands I had a slightly hesitant feeling but once I held hands I could tell for sure.

But I didn’t show it on purpose.

Because the person standing in front of this person now was not Kim Si-woo but Kim In-wook.

    Instead he spoke with sincerity.

    “nice to meet you.”

How could I not be happy to meet a believer from our church in a place like this?

    I smiled again.

    4.

    The work started quickly.

As I entered the dungeon many message windows appeared before my eyes and among them were message windows related to quests.

[You have entered the D-class dungeon ‘Mud Golem’s Cave’.]

[The current dungeon has not been conquered. Monsters will continue to respawn throughout the dungeon.]

    [Quest <???> content is updated.]

    [The door that won’t close]

    ●Type: Sub – DLC

●Description: There is a door hidden inside this dungeon leading to another place. Find that door and enter.

    ●Completion Conditions: ???

    ●Reward: ???

The quest window is still nothing special.

“What you have to collect today is the core of the Mud Golem and the lowest-grade magic stone. If you are thinking of stealing the magic stone you should give up. I think you know better than anyone what happens to those who keep their loot in their back pockets.”

The full-scale collection operation began with the supervisor’s threatening instructions.

There was nothing special about the collection work.

All you have to do is find the core and magic stone among the remains of the broken mud golem and put them in your bag.

Since there was only one supervisor overseeing the collection it seemed like it would be easy to sneak it out through a back road later when the timing was right.

    “Fuck it’s so fucking heavy.”

    “Wheww. Whoww.”

    “Eww!”

The collection task is simple but the sound of groans is heard here and there. The weight of the magic stone is not a big problem but the golem’s core is not something to be ignored.

Even something the size of a fist weighs 10kg.

Since the golem’s core was compressed by magic to begin with it was natural for it to be heavy.

Well that’s just the standard for the general public and there’s no way that something that light would feel that heavy to me.

To be honest it wouldn’t have been a problem if I had filled all of the military double packs issued by the Sulwha Guild with golem cores but right now they were disguised as ordinary people.

    “Oh this is hard.”

So I had no choice but to make it look like I was having a hard time.

I put one of the golem cores that was rolling on the floor into my double bag and patted my waist.

“It’s not easy is it Inwook?”

    “It’s still doable.”

“Watch your back. The golem’s core weighs a lot for its size. Health always comes first. People like us shouldn’t get hurt.”

Mr. Park Jeong-su gave me various pieces of advice on his way here.

He told me everything he had learned from his two years as a porter from how to avoid injuries to what to watch out for in dungeons with golems.

It would be normal not to share such valuable know-how with people you meet for the first time but Mr. Park Jeong-su shared his story without any compensation.

Other things I learned include that Mr. Park Jeong-su is 47 years old this year and started working as a day laborer as a porter two years ago.

I deliberately did not ask why he started doing this.

It’s so dangerous that it wouldn’t be strange if you died right away.

There must be a reason why someone would do something like that for two years and it must be an unfortunate reason.

And I had no such bad taste as poking fun at other people’s misfortunes.

“Don’t be greedy. Be safe as safe as possible. It’s better to move the right amount twice rather than trying to move it all at once.”

Mr. Park Jeong-su continued to give me advice even when he was going through a hard time himself.

How can I hate someone who cares about me?

And since he is a person who has faith in Limen I can only be grateful.

So in fact I gave my blessing to Mr. Park Jeong-su without telling him earlier.

It is a blessing that has the effect of improving physical abilities and reducing fatigue so it will be helpful in many ways.

Around that time while I was working and talking with Mr. Park Jeong-su

    thud-!

The man who had spat at my feet earlier approached us.

The guy said as he threw the double bag he was holding in front of me.

    “Hey come with me.”

“Mr. Yoon Tae-hwan. This guy is new to the game so I’m just giving him a brief introduction.”

Mr. Park Jeong-su took the initiative and tried to solve the problem before I could even answer.

But this guy named Yoon Tae-hwan was very persistent.

The guy looked at me and raised the corners of his mouth in a bitter manner.

“Really? Then I can train you myself. How much can a Potter who hasn’t even awakened teach you? I told you earlier that I was in charge of new recruits at the guild I belonged to before. Just trust me.”

    “But this guy…..”

“Mr. Park. I’m letting you off easy because you’re an experienced person but it’s not fun if you keep acting like that.”

The conversation between Park Jeong-su and Yoon Tae-hwan was a bit noisy so the supervisor of the Sulwha Guild who was resting on one side approached us.

    “What’s all the fuss about?”

“Oh supervisor. There’s nothing wrong. This guy is new to this job so I was just teaching him things. I’ll finish the training quickly so that there’s no disruption to the work.”

It only took 2 seconds for the sight of us rushing towards us to disappear.

Yoon Tae-hwan bowed to the supervisor and farted.

It was a surprisingly quick change of position.

The supervisor looked at Yoon Tae-hwan and slowly nodded.

“I’ll just let it go since we still have some time. But please educate them properly. You know we’re short-handed today right?”

“Yes yes. Please believe me I am the seventh Potter of the Snow Flower Guild.”

This bastard Yoon Tae-hwan’s skills at acting as a lackey are extraordinary. Was he perhaps a great traitor in his past life?

That hoarse voice and those palms that rub together without stopping.

It’s a voice that’s usually hard to come by from that bushy body.

    “Hmm I see.”

“Thank you for trusting us! We will definitely live up to your expectations.”

The supervisor patted Yoon Tae-hwan on the back several times and then returned to his seat.

And as soon as the supervisor leaves Yoon Tae-hwan attempts to transform once again.

“See? I’m a trusted person here. So don’t spit on me. And Mr. Park. Mr. Park do your job well. Don’t get your daily wages cut like last time for not meeting your quota. Got it?”

Park Jeong-su tried to answer those words but I shook my head and grabbed his shoulder.

“It’s okay. Thank you for your consideration. I’ll take this opportunity to learn how to do things properly.”

    “Are you sure it’s okay?”

“Wouldn’t that guy be trying to eat me? Mr. Yoon Tae-hwan. Should I just give you this double bag?”

To my question Yoon Tae-hwan nodded his head looking somewhat embarrassed.

I guess he didn’t think I would come out so easily.

    “Huh? Yeah right.”

    “All right.”

I lightly lifted the double bag that was lying on the floor with both arms. Then Park Jeong-su and Yoon Tae-hwan were surprised at the same time.

    “…That’s over 100 kilos?”

“Ah I usually work out really hard. The only thing I trust is my body. Haha! Senior Yoon Tae-hwan! Let’s go! I’ll learn a lot.”

    “Yeah yeah!”

Yoon Tae-hwan looked at me with a trembling expression. However perhaps conscious of the eyes of those around him he soon began to lead me toward the entrance.

It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the workplace to the entrance.

After walking forward for about two minutes we finally had some time alone together.

An uncomfortable silence followed but I was the first to break it.

“Senior. From what I saw earlier you seem to be very close with the supervisor. You seem really great.”

Didn’t you know I would start a conversation with Abu?

Yoon Tae-hwan raised the corners of his mouth embarrassed by the sudden start of grooming.

“What? This kid is a bit more perceptive than I thought. Hehe that’s right. This is my seventh time participating in the Sulwha Guild’s raid. I’ve gotten to know most of the hunters in this guild not just the supervisor from earlier.”

    “Oh is that so?”

“Of course. I will be hired as a full-time employee soon.”

    “Wow that’s really amazing.”

    He is a typical opportunist.

A style that is easy to understand weak to the strong and strong to the weak.

He was the type of person who could tell a story smoothly as long as he got the rhythm right.

“So when will we move to our next work area?”

“Well I heard it’ll take at least an hour. They say that once we finish collecting Area 1 we’ll have a lot of time to rest.”

“Oh that’s nice to hear that.”

    Kuuuuung-!

As soon as I heard that I threw down my double-backs and said with a deadly smile.

“I needed some time too so this is good. I thought you were going to get frustrated and give up senior.”

    “what?”

“Now shall we begin the training?”

    Our Pope please stop this
