Somebody Stop the Pope – 85

Episode 85
26. Take a break
1.
Regardless of the causality suitability test the last <Wings of Purification> I used successfully covered the refugee camp.
Thanks to my removal of the tumor mass and the source of infection which was the largest source of infection the only people left in the refugee camp were those with horse disease.
As the source disappeared the demons lost their power and most of the demonic energy remaining in the patients’ bodies was removed by my wings.
Of course some of the patients who had the <Mark of Gluttony> carved into them by the demons themselves were not completely purified.
“You will move together with the staff of the Ability Management Department. What you have to do is simple. As you have been practicing through the consecration so far you will be given divine powers to patients whose symptoms remain. Do you understand chicks?”
“yes!”
“Don’t disappoint me. His Majesty has promised a special prize to the guys who treat the most patients. Then invest.”
“yes!”
The follow-up measures were to be completed quickly by the new recruits of our church who arrived late.
I nodded in satisfaction at the sight of the new recruits moving in unison under Luna’s orders.
“It’s nice to see that everyone is starting to earn their keep.”
“I think this might be a good opportunity to select chicks with a talent for healing or purification.”
“When did you say you wanted to make all the chicks into knights?”
“Hey but there must be friends who choose to become priests. Whether it’s exorcists consecrators or healing priests. That way my workload will be reduced. Your Holiness wants that too.”
“That’s true.”
Luna laughed and threw the hammer she was holding onto the ground. Then the hammer disappeared in a whirlwind of white light.
The pure white plate armor Luna had been wearing disappeared along with the hammer and was replaced by jeans and a rider jacket.
“His Holiness.”
“uh.”
“Your expression has been getting worse for a while now. Is something wrong? It’s been a long time since I’ve seen your expression this bad.”
There was no need to hide it from Luna so I told her about my situation right away.
The explanation lasted about 3 minutes.
Luna who had heard the explanation smiled as if it was nothing.

“Oh that’s it. That’s it.”
“What is that?”
“Wise man’s time.”
“Are you really crazy?”
“No it’s just the wise man’s time. Haha are you embarrassed because I know a lot of Korean slang?”
…It’s somewhat similar but it feels really strange coming from a paladin’s mouth.
At this point isn’t Luna just a walking time bomb?
If you were to blurt out those words without any filtering at an official event later on… I don’t even want to imagine it.
“That system is much more amazing than I thought. I didn’t know it was possible to suppress His Majesty. But isn’t the causality thing a bit strange?”
“That’s what I’m saying. So once the situation here is roughly sorted out I’m going to go ask.”
“Question? To whom?”
“There is a noble person at Grandma’s house who can answer your questions.”
“Oh that magical old lady.”
Mrs. Emma Miller who described herself as an agent of the system.
Wouldn’t she be able to answer my question? Normally I would have to ask Limen but unfortunately I still can’t get in touch with Limen.
Now that it’s come to this we have no choice but to choose the lesser of two evils.
It’s a good thing Mrs. Emma Miller didn’t return to the United States. She almost had to go all the way there.
Anyway.
It was around this time that Luna and I were talking about our future plans.
“Siwoo. Luna.”
Pastor Seo who was taking care of children inside the container church approached us with Hee-min.
Pastor Seo’s expression was softer and calmer than ever.
Maybe it’s because I’ve relieved some of the burden on my mind.
I asked Pastor Seo softly.
“Are the kids okay?”
“I feel much better. And the saints who are well are also coming out to help me. It’s all thanks to you two. Thank you so much.”
“thank you!”
Hee-min followed Pastor Seo and expressed his gratitude to us.
It was the complete opposite of his previous behavior where he aimed his skewers at us as soon as he saw us.
“I don’t know how to repay this favor.”
“It’s not even a favor. I just did what I had to do. And Pastor Seo may not know it but he has already done a lot for me. That’s enough.”
What would this place be like if this man wasn’t here?
Perhaps the disease would have spread at a faster rate. The immense divine power within his body would have certainly been a thorn in the eyes of the demons.
If Pastor Seo had the ability to freely use divine powers I wouldn’t even have needed to come here.
If only Pastor Seo and Hee-min had their hearts set on taking these two to the church and persuading them.
But that is just my personal greed.
From the beginning these two people were not people we were allowed to see so unfortunately we had no choice but to give up.

I raised the corners of my lips slightly.
“How do you plan on continuing your ministry here Pastor Seo?”
“That is the mission given to me. If I can be of even a little help to the people here I am satisfied.”
“I heard you gave up on the education of the awakened ones but given the situation you should have asked for help from higher ups.”
At those words the pastor simply laughs.
So how could you not have asked for help until now?
I heard that although religions are starting to receive attention again now that divine powers have emerged most established religions were collapsing before then.
While pseudo-religions that advocate the end of the world have mushroomed the power of established religions including Protestantism has been greatly reduced.
Actually that was the case until I came back.
In a situation where the church was collapsing would they really have the capacity to care about a refugee village like this? I don’t think so.
“Pastor Seo.”
“Yes Siu.”
“I will talk to the Department of Ability Management and help you get properly measured. I think the Protestant Church will also be interested when the results come out.”
I can guarantee that Pastor Seo will soon establish himself as a representative holy player of Protestantism.
Because he was the first prophet-level player from another religion I encountered when I came to Earth.
“…Can I ask you one thing?”
Pastor Seo spoke to me carefully and I nodded.
“Okay then.”
“I wonder why you are so considerate of me who has a completely different faith.”
It wasn’t a difficult question to answer.
No rather it was a very easy question.
I said with a smile.
“Do people need complicated reasons to help others? If they just want to help they do it. There’s no reason beyond that.”
“…Is that so?”
“You can’t praise someone who has worked hard and served here alone for two years but you criticize him because he has a different faith? Well our Lord Limen doesn’t want that kind of attitude.”
The image that Limen wanted for her children was not the single-minded image of ‘only our church is just’.
What she wanted was acceptance. A soft warm heart that could embrace anyone and share its warmth.
How could I who knows well the meaning of Limen reject this good man just because he has a different religion?
I shook Pastor Seo’s hand and said in a pleasant voice.
“Please greet me comfortably like you did the next time we see each other. We’ll probably be seeing each other quite often in the future.”
I am confident that this will happen in the near future.
The potential is that clear. It’s so obvious that my stomach hurts even as I watch it now. Only I don’t know it.
Pastor Seo smiled somewhat stiffly and took the hand I offered him.
So the work here was coming to an end.
2.
Luna remained at the scene.
Because I had to lead the players of our sect who were assigned to follow-up work back to the Seoul Temple.
The condition was that I had to buy 50 mobile game packages and I had no choice but to accept that condition.
So after I got Luna out of the way I got in the car that Director Kim drove and headed to my grandmother’s house.
“It weighs heavily on my heart that public officials are being used for personal purposes.”
“How can you say such regretful words? I am a civil servant who exists to assist you Siwoo. There is absolutely no need for you to feel burdened.”
“Then would you like to move your office to our temple while you’re at it? I can provide you with a seat.”
“haha.”
Director Kim just laughed and didn’t give a definitive answer.
He was pretending to be fine on the outside but he flinched just now when he heard my offer.
Judging by the bead of sweat running down his neck it seems he found my suggestion quite gruesome.
“But Mr. Siwoo was Pastor Seongshin Seo’s potential really that great?”
Seeing how he skillfully changes the subject I think this person is also good at socializing.
In times like this let’s just pretend we can’t win and move on.
I nodded leaning back in my chair.
“I was so tempted. If the path had not been different I would have taken you there somehow.”
“I think it’s the first time I’ve seen Siwoo give such a generous evaluation to someone since CEO Choi Seo-jin.”
“You can’t help but be envious. A person who despite countless trials never loses his faith and puts the well-being of others before his own. How many people like that are there in the world?”
Maybe it’s because he’s that kind of person that he was given that kind of potential.
And there was one more reason why my stomach hurt.
The child named Hee-min that Pastor Seo was taking care of.
That child was certainly born with the destiny of a prophet.
If it grows well it could probably be comparable to our Seungwoo. However since the seed has not germinated yet no specific word has been given.
Because I can’t predict what will happen if I interfere with that little kid’s fate.
“Protestants have also acquired some great talent.”
“He has acquired talent but it is questionable whether that talent will blossom. It will not be an easy path for him.”
That type of person doesn’t compromise easily.
Perhaps it was both his strength and his weakness.
Unlike our Limen sect which has just begun to settle down on Earth there are clear vested interests within the established religions. And in order for him to shine he will have to raise his voice against them.
But from there it was up to Pastor Seo to figure things out on his own.
It was none of my concern anymore.
“Still it seems that Siwoo is friendly to all religions except Baekmyeonggyo.”
“There’s no need to be on bad terms with each other. Those Baekmyeonggyo guys were the ones who showed their teeth first.”
“I’m so glad that Siwoo is an irregular in South Korea. I always think that way.”
Director Kim now spits out such words without even wiping his mouth. It seems that the saying that a position makes a person is indeed true.
When I was just a team leader at the Special Investigation Division I felt burdened by such flattery but now I hear it happen every time I open my mouth?
While I was chatting with Director Kim about this and that the car arrived at its destination.
My grandmother’s house located in Yeoju Gyeonggi-do.
It was a two-story house that might feel a bit excessive for an elderly person to live in alone but it was filled with many memories.
Siyeon and Inwook used to come here together and play whenever they had vacation.
I haven’t been here since I returned to Earth but even though it’s been a long time since I’ve been here old memories come flooding back vividly.
But we were only a short while away from reminiscing as soon a group of foreigners in suits approached the car we were riding in.
Foreigners who look like they’re going to fight at any moment.
But as soon as I got out of the car they stood still and saluted me.
As expected of the American Awakened guarding Mrs. Emma they recognized my face right away.
I waved my hand lightly at them and received a salute.
“Thank you for your hard work.”
By the way I heard that that savage guy was here too but I don’t see him.
He’s not the kind of guy who wouldn’t know I was here.
But even a tiger will come if you call it.
“hey!”
Aiden walked out from behind his grandmother’s house and waved his right arm at me as if greeting me.
The guy was holding an axe in his left hand as if he had just been chopping firewood.
That wasn’t all.
Aiden was walking confidently wearing a pair of gray hemp pants that looked like they had been given to him by his grandmother.
Top?
There’s no way that savage would wear something like that on a regular basis. Of course it’s bare skin.
Director Kim who was standing next to me looked at Aiden like that and muttered quietly.
“…A yard lock?”
I nodded at those words and added a few more words.
“That kid must have been eating only rice cakes until now. And he still has some left over.”
I’ll have to get my food money back even if I have to beat him up a few times.
certainly.
