Somebody Stop the Pope – 74

Episode 74
3.
If there is light then there is also darkness. It is a very obvious law.
Therefore there is no world without darkness.
A sunny spot that receives plenty of light is visible to everyone but the shady spot behind it cannot be seen unless you pay attention to it.
That is why evil things hide in the shadows. They hide there and grow in power until they gain the power to devour the sun.
Just like now.
“Why on earth… why on earth are you doing this to me… AAAAAH!”
“If anyone sees me they’ll think I’m a villain. Listen to the kids. If you scream one more time without permission I’ll break your vocal cords.”
“Khuhuh.”
I looked at Shin Hyeong-seop struggling at my feet and spoke in a cold voice.

Shin Hyeong-seop was a player but he wasn’t a player who specialized in combat.

He was a player who was better at building his own base than fighting.
All the unpleasant magical powers that had been felt since earlier were all originating from the crude barrier that this guy had developed around the facility.
And it seemed more like sorcery than magic specialized in hiding something rather than defending against enemies.
“You’re making a mistake by doing this to me.”
“mistake?”
“Do you really think I was running this place all by myself?”
Shin Hyeong-seop was a more ugly guy than I expected.

It was quite a sight to see its snout still alive and wagging endlessly even though its legs were broken to prevent it from escaping.
First of all according to information provided by the US side this facility was not a place to care for children but a place to buy and sell children.
It was a place that existed for human trafficking to put it simply by bringing in children who had lost their parents due to various accidents and supplying them to demanders.
I always feel this but reality is more terrifying than dramas or movies.
The government’s power greatly weakened by the Dimension Opening has created a situation favorable to these scumbags.
If this is the case in South Korea where the government still has some power how much hell are other places living in?
The thought of it made my mouth taste bitter.
“I already called the police when you guys first set foot in here.”
“For a bastard who buys and sells children he has a lot of faith in public authority.”
“Even if you say he’s an irregular is it okay to criticize someone like this without evidence? You must have come from another world and don’t know but South Korea is not a country where you can do anything with power alone.”
It was obvious why this guy was so arrogant even though he could have died at any moment.
He thinks he has a strong backing.
Even without thinking too much about it I could guess what kind of people were behind this guy.
High-ranking government officials or politicians that kind of stuff.
That’s why human traffickers can babble out loud about calling the police.
“I’ve never committed a crime. How dare you accuse me of being a human trafficker.”
Quaddukduk-
I felt like my ears would get dirty if I listened any longer so I just crushed my vocal cords. And as a service I also crushed my jawbone.
Only then does Shin Hyeong-seop’s mouth become quiet.
The boy’s face was contorted in agony but his screams did not escape.
“I think you’re mistaken. I didn’t come here to ask you anything.”
I continued speaking while kicking Shin Hyeong-seop’s healthy right arm which had become much quieter.
“I just came here to confirm the truth of the information with my own eyes so why is your tongue so long? I never intended to ask you anything from the beginning.”
Most of the information this guy could give us was already in the documents the Americans had provided.
Connection with the altar?
There was no need to check that directly.
“If you were really something I would have injected magic into you by any means necessary.”
The Purifier is a closed organization to the point that even members of the same organization do not share the location of their hideouts if they are from different branches.
In such a situation there’s no way a guy who hasn’t even received magic could know such crucial information.
At best one of the customers who sold their children.
That was probably the extent of this guy’s connection to the altar.
“Still thanks to you I have come to realize a few things for sure.”
The reliability of the information that the United States has given me is high.
And the fact that South Korea was more rotten on the inside than I thought.
It was not the time to look overseas to expand the church.
“First we had to clean up the trash in the country.”
Limen hoped her children would not turn a blind eye to injustice.

Even in a world filled with darkness I wanted to be a light that could illuminate that darkness.
What would Limen say if he saw this situation now?
There was no need to think long.
I quietly spoke while grabbing Shin Hyeong-seop’s neck whose limbs were already trembling.
“Don’t worry. You won’t die.”
“Ugh ugh ugh.”
“There’s no way I could kill someone while the kids are playing so happily.”
I gestured with my chin to the children playing outside the window with Aiden.
The children who had been sending cautious glances for a moment were playing with Aiden with bright expressions.
The giant man who was nearly 2 meters tall might have been scary but the children didn’t care and just hung on to Aiden.
“If I leave you alone you’ll definitely start talking bad about me. That’ll be a bit of a problem. We religious people also tend to live off our image so image management is very important.”
Even in the midst of his pain Shin Hyeong-seop desperately shook his head. Because his jaw was crushed drool flowed out of his mouth.
I raised the corners of my mouth bitterly as I looked at that pitiful sight.
“Let’s give up just one spine. At least it’s better than dying. Even if I roll around in dog shit this life is better. Isn’t that right?”
4.
The police that Shin Hyeong-seop had been waiting for arrived at the scene 30 minutes later but they could do nothing.
Because other officials arrived following the police.
The other civil servants were of course members of the Department of Ability Management.
Given the circumstances an unexpected big shot showed up in person.
“I didn’t know Minister Yoo would come in person.”
“I have nothing to say.”
Minister Yoo Seon-ho who should be attending the Korea-Japan summit by now came to see me in person.
Judging from the fact that he came here so soon after contacting me it seemed like he had been rushed by helicopter.
And that also meant that Minister Yoo Seon-ho was taking the current situation seriously.
It may be natural that Minister Yoo Seon-ho’s expression looks serious.
The fact that heinous crimes were blatantly committed in places that the Ability Management Department was unaware of means in other words that the Ability Management Department was incompetent.
Besides the real problem was that this daycare was just the tip of the iceberg.
“Here is the material that was given to me from the United States. If you look at it it contains a list of people who are likely to be involved in this incident.”
Minister Yoo Seon-ho read the documents I handed him for about 10 minutes without saying anything.
Additional information provided by the US side included a list of corporate officials politicians and businesspeople connected to the area.
Minister Yoo Seon-ho’s hands began to tremble as he read the documents.
Minister Yoo Seon-ho who always maintained a poker face quickly had emotions such as humiliation and anger pass over his face.
Even after reading the document to the end his anger did not easily subside. He looked out the window and barely caught his breath. Then he quietly spoke to Aiden who was standing next to me.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the help of the United States.”
There was no hint of resentment in those words as to why this information had only been revealed to him now.
That may be because Minister Yoo Seon-ho himself realized the true nature of this situation.
“Minister Yoo Seon-ho. We in the United States also know that you are an excellent bureaucrat. However this is a separate issue. Korea is not free from villains. They are already deeply connected to the Korean Awakened Society.”
Aiden spoke in a very polite voice as if he had spoken politely to the Japanese Prime Minister the last time.
“We in the United States have always believed that Korea would not be able to resolve this issue on its own. We had to be cautious because it could easily escalate into interference in internal affairs.”
“I fully understand.”
“Thank you for your understanding Minister Yoo Seon-ho.”
The snake-like savage wearing a bear mask turned his head and looked at me.
“But now Korea has a sharper sword than any other. It is a very powerful sword that is more than enough to cut through the wounds. Moreover the sword is trying to pursue the right path. What could be more fortunate for the ROK-US alliance?”
When people say a knife is good they are naturally referring to me.
I let out a small sigh as I looked at Aiden who was smiling brightly.
Although it was wrapped in polite words Aiden’s words had one meaning. And it was in line with what I wanted to say to Minister Yoo Seon-ho.
“There is a saying in the East: New wine must be put into new wineskins. Isn’t that a good saying?”
At Aiden’s words Minister Yoo Seon-ho nodded with a bitter smile. Then he turned to me and asked.
“I now realize that the Korea-Japan summit was not an urgent matter. I am truly ashamed of this old man’s incompetence. I apologize Si-woo.”
“This is not something for which the Minister should apologize.”
I’ve known for quite some time that the power of the Ability Management Department has reached its limit.
In a situation where the government loses sufficient deterrence power it is natural that cancerous entities will grow.
It is against our doctrine to see something like this and not take any action.
Up until now I have been responding as passively as possible to ensure that the Limen Church can settle down without any problems but after witnessing this crime scene with my own eyes my thoughts have changed.
The church had to re-establish the direction it should take.
Nothing will change if we just sit still. That’s why what we have to do for Limen has already been decided.
“From now on I’m going to try to be a bit more nosy.”
Minister Yoo Seon-ho who understood what I meant closed his eyes and sighed.
And he answered in a lonely voice.
“I will begin serious discussions with the President as soon as I get back. It won’t take long.”
Minister Yoo Seon-ho’s expression as he spoke seemed surprisingly indifferent.
As if they had anticipated this would happen.
I just nodded quietly while looking at Minister Yoo Seon-ho.
5.
Shincheonwadae located in Sejong Special Self-Governing City.
Minister Yoo Seon-ho took a deep breath and then knocked on the door of the President’s office.
“Mr. President. This is Minister Yoo Seon-ho.”
“Come in.”
As I opened the door and entered I saw President Seo Shin-woo with a tired look on his face.
Minister Yoo Seon-ho bowed to the president and then quietly approached him.
“I have received the report. Is the information provided by the United States reliable?”
“The likelihood that the US gave us incorrect information is extremely low.”
“It’s such a shame that we were the only ones who didn’t know about this information. I can’t even raise my head. I didn’t know corruption was this rampant… Phew.”
President Seo Shin-woo took off the glasses he was wearing and placed them on the desk. He then wiped his face with his hand.
“What exactly does Kim Si-woo Awakener want?”
“We want to be able to actively intervene in social issues. For example we are demanding the power to directly punish villains like in this daycare center incident.”
“What do you think Minister Yoo Seon-ho?”
Minister Yoo Seon-ho answered the President’s question immediately.
“Considering the cases of Europe and the United States I think it is possible. In particular irregulars in the United States are given immunity similar to the privilege of non-prosecution. It seems that we can also enact related laws based on the Special Act on the Protection of Special Abilities.”
“It’s a huge privilege. It could result in innocent victims.”
“Irregulars are just that kind of being. The US has been using Irregulars to thoroughly crush villains. In that sense it may be very fortunate that our Irregular is Kim Si-woo the Awakened One. He already leads a group called the Limen Cult. Therefore even if he is given authority he will not be able to abuse it indiscriminately.”
A person with many things to protect cannot move recklessly.
President Seo slowly nodded his head to Minister Yoo Seon-ho’s simple and clear logic. Then he thought of Kim Si-woo.
Regardless of his religious background Kim Si-woo showed that he was very sensitive to public opinion. He was also very aware of the influence his actions and words had on the public.
With great power comes great responsibility. And Kim Si-woo wasn’t stupid enough not to know that.
‘If you just tune it well…’
It could be a good opportunity to completely reorganize the domestic situation as well as to eliminate corruption that is entangled from the root.
President Seo who had finished calculating up to that point nodded. Then he gave instructions to his secretary’s office through the landline phone on his desk.
“Tell the ruling party leader and the main opposition party leader to come to the Blue House immediately.”
It didn’t take him long to make a decision.
After ending the short phone call President Seo let out a deep sigh.
I felt like I was riding a tiger but I had no intention of stopping.
