Somebody Stop the Pope – 7

Episode 7
5.
“Wow really. You’ve taken care of everything. You can live stream right now hyung. And not just on MeTube. You’ve even created a Paprika Twipot account. This usually takes two weeks right?”
“It certainly gets the job done quickly.”
“That’s right. The agency with the most authority in South Korea right now is the Department of Abilities Management. Wow they actually took care of it all in 3 hours. That’s amazing.”
Inwook let out a small exclamation as he typed on the keyboard.
This was shortly after confirming that player permissions for all Internet platforms including YouTube had been approved.
Team Leader Kim said he would take care of it earlier but I thought he had already taken care of it.
– As of now Siwoo has become a VIP of the Ability Management Department. If there is anything that needs to be taken care of please contact us first.
Suddenly I remembered the words the Minister of Personnel Management had strongly urged me to use.
It’s still a long way to go but maybe it’s a good thing that the Ability Management Department started to resolve it first.
I nodded slowly and then looked at Inwook and said.
“That’s right. There’s one thing my brother didn’t tell me.”
“What is it?”
“For the time being my special privileges will be applied based on disaster-level standards. They say there are no clear standards in South Korea yet so they’ll propose a related bill and process it quickly?”
“What kind of special privileges are there?”
“There were a lot of them but the one I remember the most is the tax exemption privilege? They said that you are exempt from all taxes. However you have to undergo a tax audit by the National Tax Service once a year.”
Inwook opened his mouth wide and answered after hearing that.
“That’s crazy. The tax audit is probably to prevent other people from illegally evading taxes through you.”
“Hey are you smart?”
“But it’s not like they even exempt you from taxes… No it’s only natural if you think about it.”
Inwook made a very serious expression and looked at me with proud eyes as he spoke.
“If my brother wants to stay in South Korea I should at least do that. That’s what kind of person he is. Isn’t that right?”
“You seem to be overflowing with family love today. Is that why you held your brother’s funeral?”
“Do you know how expensive the seedlings I planted in the tree farm for my brother were? Who else loves their family as much as I do?”
It’s true that shamelessness is genetic.

Maybe it’s because we’re brothers but we really do resemble each other in these ways.
I looked at Inwook who was spouting lies without changing his expression at all and snickered. Then I lightly hit the guy on the back and said.
“Tell me what you asked me to do. I heard you made plans?”
“It’s not like it’s a grand plan.”
Inwook said that and tapped on the keyboard and soon a YouTube channel with 5.42 million subscribers appeared on the monitor.
The channel name was very simple.
<Player K>.
And I could immediately see how this channel had become so popular.
“You’re handsome.”
“You can see it from my brother’s perspective right? He has a good personality. There hasn’t been any controversy so far and whenever I helped him with work he paid me right away.”
“You haven’t missed your deposit? Then you’re a good person.”
“Yes. And… no.”
The fact that you have been paying your deposits on time is a very important part of trustworthiness.
At first glance he seems like a trustworthy person.
Inwook continued to speak while continuing to scroll down.
“As you know the easiest way for people who are just starting out in broadcasting to get attention is to get help from big companies. In common parlance it’s called getting a straw. The personal broadcasting ecosystem hasn’t changed much so it’s easy to understand.”
“I also stuck another straw in there like crazy. What did you say to this guy? You didn’t even know I was an irregular.”
“Oh by chance there is a content that this hyung is working on that you might be able to participate in.”
The guy said that and clicked the mouse again.
Then after a while a new playlist appeared in front of me and I snickered as I looked at the title of the playlist.
The title was very simple.
<Newbie Officer School>.
It is clearly core content that boasts an overwhelming number of views compared to other videos.
“Players who have just awakened are called newbies. This hyung Minsu hyung runs content to teach these newbies. There was also a vacancy in the content recently.”
“Vacancy?”
“I heard one of them got seriously injured? They said he got injured while hunting a monster but anyway they said they were looking for someone recently. When I told them about my brother they asked me to come for an interview.”
It seems like pretty plausible content.
Looking at the number of video views it is clear that this is a hit content.
However this premise was wrong from the start.
I spoke to Inwook with a slight frown.
“Do you think I’m a newbie?”
No to be honest the owner of this channel Player K was no different from a herbivore in my eyes.
The point is that it doesn’t make sense for me to appear on TV under the name of a newbie.
But Inwook smiled as if he had been waiting for my comment.
“That’s it bro.”
“What the hell are you talking about.”
“We’re participating with that concept. I just came up with the name of the project. Want to hear it?”

Inwook paused for a moment and then spoke in a very serious voice.
“The main character hides his power. What do you think hyung? Are you going to finish my plan? I haven’t told Minsu hyung the details yet but if I go and tell him he’ll probably accept it positively. Minsu hyung likes this concept too. It’s the best concept for a new face.”
What kind of monster have I awakened?
6.
The protagonist hides his power.
It’s one of the clichés that was used a lot in webtoons and web novels in the early 20s.
To put it simply it refers to a cliché in which the protagonist proceeds while hiding his power.
-Trainee number 3! If it gets hard I’ll give up. Are you that easy on the player? Do you think that all players are the same just because they’ve awakened?
-I’m sorry! I’ll correct it!
-If exposed to the poison used by goblins players with low resistance will die! And if you die your companions will also fall apart…
“That’s not how you do it.”
I was watching a content called <Newbie Military Academy> through Inwook’s computer.
The plot seems similar to the previously popular content called <Fake Man> but trends come and go so let’s skip that.
“But In-wook is it really necessary to go this far? Why don’t you just get the video of what you showed me at Yeouido Gate from the Ability Management Department and then edit it and post it?”
That was the exact point I was curious about from earlier.
It seems like Inwook made a plan for me but it might be more effective if he just released the video without doing that.
But Inwook just smiles at my words.
Then he clicks the mouse in front of me and shows me the ‘No. 1 real-time trending video’.
A video titled ‘Hidden Player?’ was uploaded an hour ago by an account without a profile picture called Smartcrow.
Although it’s only been an hour it’s already surpassed 15 million views and well over 100000 comments.
The content of the video was really simple.
“Is this you hyung?”
“That’s right.”
The main character in the video was me.
A video of me unilaterally slaughtering a wyvern at Yeouido Gate.
Perhaps to avoid censorship on YouTube the gruesome corpse of the wyvern and the blood were blurred out.
The video wasn’t that flashy.
That’s natural because that’s how my fighting style was originally.
There were no last-minute moves and the enemies were reduced efficiently.
It’s a habit I’ve acquired from fighting countless armies alone for nearly a decade.
We had to reduce the enemy numbers as quickly as possible so there was no time to strike a cool pose.
Anyway the video ended with the wyverns flying in the sky falling down as if they were shocked by electricity.
A short video about 3 minutes long.
After I finished watching the video I scratched my head and said
“The Ability Management Department clearly said they would put an embargo on it for two weeks.”
“There must have been players hired from outside so it wouldn’t have been easy to control them all. I saw that just now. But bro what did you do in the end? If you can’t use magic why did the wyvern fall off on its own?”
I’ve been thinking about a good answer to that question.
And as soon as I thought of a similar expression I told it to Inwook.
“They say that when you see something scary you wet your pants.”
“yes.”
“Just think of it as someone who died because his bladder burst while peeing.”
“…Hmm that’s profound.”
“If you hunt hundreds of thousands of wyverns you will be able to acquire abilities like this.”
Inwook listens to my answer and then closes his mouth for a moment.
But this is no joke. You need to be able to catch that much to reach the point where you can knock out a wyvern with your life.
To be exact this is a phenomenon that occurs through the passive skill called <The Demon’s Natural Enemy>.
I wanted to check my skills after a long time but my personal system window isn’t perfectly synchronized yet.
anyway.
If the video has spread this much wouldn’t it be okay to broadcast it right now?
“Inwook. Do you really need to go to that newbie military academy? I think you can start right away. If I were the main character in the video wouldn’t everyone know how to come in?”
“Good point bro. Now check this out.”
As soon as he said that Inwook entered the search term ‘Yeouido Hangang Gate protagonist’ into the search bar.
Okay then.
“Yeouido Hidden Player? That’s true…”
“Yeouido Hidden Player. First revealed on my YouTube channel.”
“Hidden player in Yeouido? Well.”
Countless images poured down like a shower.
“I feel dizzy.”
“Look bro. I told you it’s hard like this. Cyber wreckers will come running after smelling it so it won’t be easy. Using part-timers to spread rumors is one way but that’s not very cool.”
This is the first time in my life that I’ve seen Inwook be this logical.
However there was one blind spot in Inwook’s words.
“Then I can just go to the Department of Ability Management and ask them to hold a press conference.”
You don’t necessarily have to start on YouTube.
Wouldn’t it be possible to create a ripple effect through the established media and then bring it to MeTube?
But Inwook nodded his head as if it was obvious.
“That should be done too.”
“uh?”
“Hyung. Why are you thinking of doing just one? With the help of big companies like YouTube you can film videos and hold press conferences. Wouldn’t that maximize the synergy effect?”
Clap clap clap.
I couldn’t help but applaud Inwook’s novel idea.
They say that if a dog studies for three years it will be able to recite poetry.
After five years as a Metube editor my way of thinking is now almost like that of a Metuber.
Yes Inwook is right.
It wasn’t a situation where I had to worry about whether to eat Jjajangmyeon or Jjamppong.
Just order both and eat them. Okay.
“Then should I contact you right away and say I’ll come visit tomorrow? There’s going to be a shoot tomorrow so if I’m lucky I might be able to attend.”
“Since there’s nothing to do tomorrow anyway let’s do that. But Inwook why do you seem more proactive than me?”
When I spoke with a faint smile Inwook looked straight at me and answered.
“You said that the power you have is limited in time…”
“That’s true.”
“Shouldn’t I be proactive? It was hard just to feed Siyeon…”
“…I’ll try hard too hyung.”
The ending was a bit salty.
It was around this time that Inwook and I were diligently planning for the future.
Beep beep beep-!
“I’m back! Big brother! Big brother!”
Siyeon who had gone to school returned home and as soon as she returned she hugged me and smiled.
“Is the youngest here?”
“Hehe. I thought you disappeared again so I came back right away. Did I do well big brother?”
“Okay. If you’re scared of me disappearing why don’t you just skip school tomorrow and stay with me?”
“That’s not possible! I need to get an attendance award. Oppa. Let’s order some tteokbokki!”
“Okay then. Inwook? Order some tteokbokki.”
“Siyeon. That thing you eat every day?”
“Yeah! Little brother.”
“okay.”
I smiled and thought to myself while holding Siyeon.
I must make sure that my family who must have had a hard time because of me are well off.
So let’s try something first.
I had no intention of just sitting back and letting the strength I had worked so hard to gain be taken away.
