Somebody Stop the Pope – 67

Episode 67
21. Battle to subdue Yamata no Orochi
1.
There was a clear difference between the scene observed from a helicopter and the scene seen up close.
[A large amount of poison is nullified by the passive skill <Divine Protection Lv. Max>.]
[Divine power is continuously being consumed.]
First of all Yamata no Orochi… The name is too long. It’s Japanese so it doesn’t stick in my mouth.
“Since it has eight heads I guess we should just call it Palryong.”
That guy Palryong uses poison. When I saw him from a distance I thought he was spitting out black flames but when I looked closer I realized that it was closer to extremely poisonous.
That’s why it was even more difficult.
“If you hadn’t come we would have been in real trouble.”
Extreme poison causes mass casualties. Especially this level of poison is so severe that even the most awakened beings cannot withstand it.
The words “national crisis level devil” didn’t really make sense at first but I could feel it when I saw the buildings corroding and melting from the poison.
Even though the poison was neutralized through divine protection the vicious power of the poison was clearly conveyed just by the tingling sensation on the skin.
If a person were to be poisoned like this most of it would just flow out as a handful of blood.
“It’s refreshing.”
For that crazy savage it becomes a medium that reminds him of a sauna.
Irregulars were irregulars.
Aiden was unharmed despite being doused with poison without any defense mechanisms.
“I once fell into a trap set by an enemy tribe. They were a tribe that used poison as their main weapon and they threw me into a jar filled with deadly poison. It was 20 years ago. I remember that time vaguely.”
“Usually we call that trauma.”
“It’s one of the proud histories of struggle engraved on my body. Thanks to it I acquired a strong body that is resistant to most poisons. And I threw the entire tribe that gave me that gift into that jar.”
At least CEO Choi Seo-jin doesn’t talk about such heinous things as if it were natural.
What kind of world does this guy come from?
There are ranks even among machos but this was hardly worthy of being called macho.
Compared to this guy CEO Choi Seo-jin was a man worthy of being called a gentleman.

“Savages. There are no survivors in this area.”
“I know that even if you don’t tell me you crazy pope. Humans can’t survive extreme poisoning. That’s basic common sense.”
“Ah sorry. I guess I’m just a guy who doesn’t know basic common sense.”
The physical ability to withstand extreme poison was not a supernatural ability that came from magic or divine power.
It was just pure physical strength so simple and literal.
At this point I’m starting to wonder about that unknown power I felt in the barracks earlier.
『Kwauuuuu-』
“Savage. He’s awake.”
“That’s my share. I was sad that there were no dragons in my world. Did your world have any?”
“It was there.”
“How did you compare to that guy?”
I thought about Aiden’s question for a moment then answered while putting on leather gloves.
“There is no comparison.”
“Is that guy stronger?”
“No way. If that guy was stronger I wouldn’t have been summoned to that world in the first place.”
The Demon Dragon King who led the gluttonous legions.
The demon dragon that gave up the pride of his race in pursuit of great power was terrifyingly strong.
It’s incomparable to that kind of dragon that only spits out black spit from its mouth.
“I’m more interested in you Mad Pope. You’re the first returnee I’ve felt good about. You should be happy. There aren’t many people who can win the favor of this great chieftain.”
“Let’s finish quickly. This is my first time in Japan so I want to enjoy the hot springs.”
“One of our tribe’s traditions is to enjoy a bath with the person you’ve sparred with. Let’s kill that guy finish a friendly sparring match and then enjoy a bath together.”
“Hey you crazy kid.”
“Look carefully. This is speculation.”
A wild aura emanated from Aiden’s body.
Divine power magical power magi. A power that does not belong anywhere I know.
I felt it before but it was a primal force closer to ‘will’ rather than ‘spirit’.
『Kwauuuuuuuuu-!』
Palryongi fully awake gazes at us with red light shining from his sixteen eyes.
At the same time numerous monsters that had been keeping a distance from us began to rush toward us all at once.
“A warrior proves himself and grows only through fighting. Fighting is the training of fighting spirit. Fighting spirit is the expression of the will to fight to the end with the opponent as long as one’s life remains and one’s eyes are open.”
The primal power swept away the monsters in an instant.
And the monsters touched by that fierce will fall down without being able to do anything.
For me that sight was impressive.
I thought he would just beat up his enemies but he subdued them in a more effective way.
『Kiaaaaaaaaaaah!』
Palryongi who sensed Aiden’s ‘speculation’ screamed even louder. And then a full-scale battle began.
A dark liquid is vomited out from the mouths of the eight heads at the same time. The extreme poison that instantly covers the sky sweeps away everything without distinguishing between enemies and enemies.

Even the monsters that were convulsing on the ground swept up in speculation melted like ice cream the moment they touched the poison.
“I’ll go first.”
Aiden let out a loud roar as he charged straight through the poison. The axes he held in his dual hands cracked loudly and a huge wave of poison split apart.
Then the body of Palryongi which had been glaring at us with red eyes comes into view again.
The poison that the guy shoots from a distance is enough to be called a weapon of mass destruction but even that only applies to those who can handle it.
Aiden leaped into the air like a madman covered in poison.
“Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!”
Kwaaaaaaaah!
He cut off the eight tails rushing towards him in one go. It was an act of inaction that could be called a suicide… That would probably be the general public’s perspective.
I briefly checked my condition while watching Aiden scurry around like a snail.
“It seems like there are no particular restrictions on causality.”
Is it because there are many believers? The law of causality that used to apply the brakes whenever I tried to exert my power properly was quiet this time.
I thought it would be different since it was a national crisis but it was something I didn’t need to be nervous about in the first place.
Well it certainly feels like a huge threat to the Awakened people of Earth…
“I tore apart all the demon lords who were said to be strong so if I can’t crush a guy the size of a dragon hatchling then it’s impossible.”
[Cast the active skill <Holy Spear Lv. Max>.]
Woof woof woof!
I threw one of the holy spears that was created in my hand straight at Palryongi and the spear pierced Palryongi’s rightmost head.
After a while.
『Kkaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah-!』
『Keeeeeeeek!』
As the Holy Spear exploded it blew up the three other heads next to it at the same time.
And the four remaining heads began to writhe in pain and spray poison in all directions.
I nodded slowly while looking at the sight.
“If you burst another head the other head will hurt too… check.”
And then he spoke to Aiden again still summoning the Holy Spear.
“If you want to even draw you have to work hard. This is what divine power is. You chuunibyou savage.”
Then Aiden screamed loudly.
“Don’t you have any pride as a warrior? Fight fairly-”
“The Orc Overlord I decapitated last time said the same thing. Are you perhaps a distant relative?”
“You coward!”
“what.”
I smiled at Aiden and then threw the spear again.
“If you want you can do it too.”
Where did that guy with no long-distance skills get his way?
2.
Base camp located near Sendai City.
“Yamata no Orochi… no biological response.”
“…Total battle time 1 minute and 12 seconds. National crisis level monster codename Yamata no Orochi… Subjugation complete.”
“There were no casualties on our side.”
“The situation ended… by the hands of South Korea’s irregular Kim Si-woo.”
Silence fell within the base camp.
The awakened people of Japan the awakened people of America and even the awakened people of South Korea.
They were unable to continue speaking as they watched the live broadcast of the subjugation scene.
And the same was true of Japanese Prime Minister Hiroto Sasaki who joined the base camp late.
“That’s ridiculous. Was the United States trying to test someone like that? And why on earth did it have to be on our Japanese soil?”
“dismissal.”
“Suddenly our country has been turned into a nuclear test site for South Korea. And the results of the nuclear test… are an unprecedented success. Twice. We’ve dealt with Yamata no Orochi who caused numerous casualties with just two attacks.”
There were only two rooms.
Yamata no Orochi who had killed countless civilians and countless Awakened soldiers dispatched for emergency response was defeated in just two attacks.
With two Irregulars mobilized the success of the subjugation was taken for granted but in reality only one of them was actually active in this battle.
“This is the worst.”
Prime Minister Sasaki pressed his pounding head with his fingers.
It was certainly a joyous event for Japan to have completed the subjugation of Yamata no Orochi without causing any further damage.
A national crisis level devil.
It was certainly an achievement worthy of applause to subdue the evil that could have brought the country to ruin if left unattended.
But that is only possible if the country suppresses it on its own.
Foreign powers intervened and it was South Korea’s irregulars who got involved. No they didn’t stop at intervening; South Korea’s irregulars sorted out the situation on their own.
It was already doomed from here.
The <Rising Sun Society> which currently leads the mainstream of the Japanese Awakened Society is a difficult organization to control. There is no way they will stay still when Japan is saved by the irregulars of South Korea.
Moreover it wasn’t just the Rising Sun that he was afraid of.
‘Could it be that America had this situation in mind?’
It was to the point where America’s sincerity was questionable. Did they really not know that Kim Si-woo was an irregular of this level?
Could it be that South Korea’s President Seo Shin-woo has already conspired with that rascal?
All sorts of doubts came to mind. If the US side had assumed this situation Japan would have provided Kim Si-woo with a free stage for his international debut.
‘…That’s not what’s important right now.’
Once something has happened what’s important isn’t the cause.
Investigating the cause came later and recovery took priority.
As Prime Minister Sasaki was barely able to come up with a solution the Foreign Minister who had been keeping his mouth shut next to him boldly expressed his opinion.
“How about inducing naturalization to Japan like in Ryu Jin-young’s case?”
“Naturalization? On what terms?”
“The population of the home country is still much larger than that of Korea. Wouldn’t it be worth bringing them in on the condition that the Limen Church be promoted at a national level?”
Prime Minister Sasaki was a gentleman who did not show his emotions to the point that he was nicknamed a “living fire” but this time he was not like that.
“Us? Pushing the Limen Sect?”
“Yes Prime Minister. If we can just get Kim Si-woo to our side then we’ll have….”
“Do you only use that idiotic brain of yours to commit adultery? Don’t you understand what’s going on with the Minister of Foreign Affairs?”
“Your Excellency?”
“The 1 minute and 12 second long subjugation video from earlier was watched by the entire nation through disaster broadcasts. And that’s not all. By now not only in Japan but all over the world people will be replaying that video on the Internet. That man is already a hero who saved the archipelago. So what? Are we going to help him expand his influence?”
In an instant a chilly air settled in the barracks again.
Prime Minister Sasaki stared at the Foreign Minister with his teeth clenched for a long time then took a deep breath and spoke in a cold voice.
“If you want to keep your current position with that stupid brain of yours prepare the highest level of protocol right now. And… request a call to President Seo Shin-woo right now.”
They must have already anticipated this situation. They must have been confident and obediently sent Kim Si-woo to Japan.
But that was then.
“The battle has begun!”
One of the situation officers shouted in a panicked voice and Prime Minister Sasaki asked back with a frown on his face.
“Has Yamata no Orochi come back to life? That can’t be possible….”
“no!”
Prime Minister Sasaki could only look at a bewildered expression at the situation officer’s response that followed.
“The irregulars suddenly started fighting each other!”
“These crazy guys!”
Japan’s disaster is not over yet.
Our Pope please stop this
