Somebody Stop the Pope – 66

Episode 66
5.
‘Not good.’
Nishimura Ryunosuke the representative of the Japanese Awakened who was sitting on the left side of the table and watching the situation clenched his fist as he watched the two Irregulars’ first greetings.
They no longer had a say.
If the South Korean Irregulars had been unilaterally overwhelmed by the Barbarians the situation would have been different.
By siding with the Bavarian side that is the American side they could have gained a little more benefit.
But the situation back then was not like that at all.
Even though the Barbarian was speaking English and Kim Si-woo was speaking Korean the two were still communicating.
The ferocious aura that the Barbarian exuded was an aura that even he who could be said to be one of the top Awakened in Japan had difficulty enduring.
But the Korean priest who had just come in was different. His expression was relaxed and he was actually smiling as if he found the situation amusing.
‘That Korean is a real irregular. He can’t be compared to those fake Chinese guys.’
There was no doubt.
In Japan the only people who can maintain their sanity in front of the Barbarian also known as the Irregular are other Irregulars.
That’s why Ryunosuke had no choice but to bite his lips tightly.
Deep down I wanted the Barbarian to defeat Kim Si-woo in one go but the situation didn’t turn out that way at all.
“What are the interpreters doing? Start interpreting now.”
“Lord Ryunosuke. The interpreters have already fainted.”
“Things that don’t help.”
We even brought in interpreters to ensure smooth negotiations but it was of no use.
Ryunosuke said with a deep frown.
“Call that Korean guy.”
“Are you talking about Ryu Jin-young?”
“He’s the only one who can stand up to their momentum and translate between English and Japanese at the same time. Bring him here right now.”
“yes!”
At Ryunosuke’s command his subordinates immediately moved their bodies and Ryunosuke looked at the Irregulars with a frustrated expression.

‘Yamata no Orochi is not the problem.’
The Barbarian is an undefeated man. From the moment such a man was sent here Yamata no Orochi was no big deal.
Japan did not request the dispatch of irregulars in the first place. All they wanted was a reasonable number of support troops.
However we should have known their true intentions from the time they decided to send the irregulars to the United States without any hesitation.
The Irregulars were the greatest force and strategic weapon that the nations of this era could possess. And the fact that such a being moved meant that there was another purpose.
‘If things turn out like this can we only hope that the Barbarian will kill Kim Si-woo?’
Until just a few months ago South Korea was the weakest power in Northeast Asia.
The gap between Japan and South Korea began to widen significantly from the moment Ryu Jin-young who was highly regarded among the disaster-level players three years ago moved to Japan.
If they had just a little more time their plan to incorporate the Awakened Society of South Korea into Japan might have been successful.
But everything went awry after that guy named Kim Si-woo showed up.
‘Is there a chance?’
Ryunosuke quickly thought about it but there was no suitable alternative.
The only way he could do that was for the Barbarian to eliminate Kim Si-woo just as he had hoped.
In fact the Barbarian already has the blood of several Irregulars on his hands.
Among them are those who pretend to be Irregulars but one thing is certain: the Barbarians do not keep their hands to themselves.
While Ryunosuke was thinking about various things the two irregulars seemed to have ended their war of nerves and sat down in their assigned seats.
And after a while Ryu Jin-young who was to act as the interpreter entered the barracks.
Ryunosuke raised his hand and called Ryu Jinyoung to him and Ryu Jinyoung quietly approached him.
“Ryu Jin-young. You will be the interpreter here. You are also a Japanese awakened person so I don’t think you will be able to interpret in a way that is favorable to South Korea.”
“…All right.”
“Then let’s begin the meeting.”
The atmosphere inside the barracks was extremely tense due to the aftermath of the previous war of nerves.
‘We must secure as much of a share as possible in the suppression of Yamata no Orochi.’
If the battle ends without Japan contributing anything Japan’s national prestige will inevitably fall to rock bottom.
Therefore the conclusion reached from above was that a meaningful role must be played.
In preparation for this they mobilized three disaster-level returnees including Ryu Jin-young and even the Rising Sun Society so they had to prevent anyone from being reduced to a guest in their own home.
‘Even if there are two Irregulars there’s no way they could deal with a large-scale demon like Yamata no Orochi alone…’
As he was thinking about a suitable compromise the Barbarian looked at the Japanese Awakened and said something in a voice full of laughter.
Then the Japanese Awakened people who soon understood his words began to murmur and Ryunosuke frowned and spoke to Ryu Jinyoung.
“What did you say?”
Ryu Jin-young answered Ryunosuke’s question in a dry voice.
“I have instructed that the mission to eliminate Yamata no Orochi is sufficient for me and Kim Si-woo alone and that the remaining forces including those from Japan should focus on evacuating the citizens.”
At those words Ryunosuke slammed his fist on the desk and shouted.
“Is that even possible right now? This is our Japanese land. It’s natural for our own Awakened people to protect our own territory!”
The barbarian burst into laughter baring his teeth as he looked at the angry Ryuunosuke. Then he spoke something in a louder voice than before and Ryu Jinyoung quickly continued his interpretation.
“I don’t want the Awakened members of the Allies to die in vain. Also you were the first to ask for help. It is not shameful for the weak to ask for help from the strong so all you have to do is express your gratitude after the expedition is over.”
“This this rude…..”

“By the way I will forgive your rudeness just now but if you do it again I will not forgive you” he said. “Lord Ryunosuke. Provoking the Barbarians is against Japan’s national interests.”
Where did it go wrong?
Even if it was a national crisis if Japan had the current national power it would have been possible to suppress it although it would have suffered great damage.
But because they were afraid of the damage they reached out to their ally the United States and the result is what we have now.
‘It’s a political problem that needs to be solved. It’s out of my hands.’
Politicians will quickly come up with a clever plan.
But that was only for a moment.
Ryunosuke was left speechless by Ryu Jinyoung’s subsequent interpretation.
“The operation start time is said to be two hours from now.”
They were never given a chance in the first place.
6.
“I’ve heard that the Barbarian is an impulsive person but I didn’t know he would make such a decision. I can already see the headlines tomorrow morning. Japan Passing. The repercussions will be quite enormous.”
“Team Leader Kim aren’t you worried that just you and me the American savage will be going into the field?”
“I trust you that much Siwoo.”
Aiden Howard was a lot crazier than I expected.
First of all the guy blatantly disrespected Japan on their home ground. They say even a shit dog gets half of its food on its home ground but they excluded that shit dog from the start.
This is a decision that a person who thinks about things like diplomatic relations or the other party’s reputation would never have made.
However Aiden Howard openly mocked the Japanese Awakeners and excluded them from the operation.
Of course the people who were dispatched to escort me including Kang Chae-ah were also excluded during the process but that wasn’t a factor worth worrying about.
I also had no intention of putting our Awakened ones in a dangerous place.
Anyway there’s no doubt that he’s crazy.
At least CEO Choi thought long and hard but this savage doesn’t even think long. He just does whatever he wants. He’s the type of guy who can be described as beastly.
“The reason why the two of you want to go catch Yamata no Orochi is obvious. After you deal with the demon beast you want to fight with me.”
“…I’m sorry. I actually passed out earlier so I didn’t understand properly. Are you planning on killing him?”
“He’s not someone you can subdue easily.”
The guy told me I killed God.
I don’t know what world that savage came back from but he has no reason to brag.
It is not easy to kill a being who has ascended to the divine realm. In particular it is nearly impossible for a mortal to kill a being who has ascended to the throne of the gods like Limen.
However it is possible to kill a deity on the verge of extinction like the other world deity last time. Perhaps that Barbarian guy has killed several of the minor deities.
“We’ll have to tear off each limb to finish it off.”
“Ah… is that so?”
“Don’t worry too much. If it’s something like that you can probably reattach the severed limbs right away. I mean that’s not all.”
And he’s the kind of guy who would give in to that much.
As long as you don’t pull out your neck it’ll be fine.
Team Leader Kim stared blankly at me and then nodded his head with effort.
“Do I need any further explanation about Yamata no Orochi?”
“It’s okay I heard it all during the briefing earlier.”
Yamata no Orochi like most national crisis level demonic beasts was created spontaneously and is not found in any existing database. It is said that the reason it is called by that name is because it looks similar to a monster of the same name from a Japanese legend.
A snake with eight heads.
So far it has been revealed that they prey on humans as soon as they are seen and command various flying monsters including wyverns.
It is said that he suddenly stopped moving about 5 hours ago and according to sources he is believed to have been sleeping.
In short it’s like they’re taking a nap after eating a ton of humans.
Thanks to this civilians were able to evacuate in time but there are still many citizens in Sendai City who were unable to evacuate in time.
It would have been virtually impossible for everyone to evacuate as it had not even been 48 hours since it appeared.
I clicked my tongue and then spoke to Kang Chae-ah who was standing quietly next to me.
“Ms. Chae-ah please also help us with the civilian rescue operation. We will send Archbishop Leo to you. Archbishop Leo may look scary but he also has outstanding healing abilities.”
“The Barbarian is an extremely dangerous person. Are you okay?”
To her concerns I just smiled and nodded.
So the mission of the expedition was roughly coordinated and the time finally came to move.
There was no need to set a separate alarm.
“Are you ready?”
Because the savage came right up to our barracks.
I spoke to Aiden Howard who had come to pick me up.
“You also have a hasty personality.”
“I couldn’t rest easy because I was worried about the innocent Japanese civilians who were waiting for us.”
That doesn’t sound like something a battle-crazed savage warrior would say.
Well whatever happens it’s fine.
At that time I had also returned to Earth and was feeling sad that I didn’t have a sandbag to relieve my stress.
A club is the best medicine for a wild beast that doesn’t know its place.
“Let’s go.”
I got up from my seat with a cheeky smile.
7.
It is said that the original operational plan was to approach Yamata no Orochi by land.
This is because it is difficult to secure the right to provide air support in areas where flying monsters are located.
But there was no need to do that while I was here.
Because just like we did at the ceasefire line last time we just had to build a fortress on the helicopter and that was it.
When I changed the means of transportation to a helicopter I put forward additional conditions to the US side. And the US side readily accepted my conditions.
Actually it’s not that great of a condition.
“Usually Irregulars don’t want their battles to be public. In that sense you’re a different breed.”
“That’s not what you say savage.”
“Hmm. Your speech seems more arrogant than before.”
“There’s no need to use formal language when no one is watching right?”
“Okay. Let’s talk comfortably.”
The condition was to take a few reporters on a helicopter. It was also a request from the president but it was a waste to miss out on the opportunity to become famous worldwide.
This is a great opportunity to make the name of the Limen Church more widely known.
If I had known this would happen I would have brought along three experienced reporters but there were quite a few reporters at the base camp.
They all rushed to me offering to let me film the subjugation scene.
A reporter from a Japanese broadcasting station was chosen through a lottery and boarded the helicopter with a cameraman for the live broadcast.
They were full of energy before boarding but once they entered the flying monsters’ territory the color drained from the reporters’ and cameramen’s faces.
“I don’t know if you can focus properly like that.”
“Can you show me the battle scene? It’s an unwritten rule among Irregulars to hide information as much as possible.”
“It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t make any difference if other guys see my fight.”
The guy who’s about to get beat up by me is still alive.
Aiden Howard was a very ambiguous character to call a villain.
He’s just crazy about winning.
“I see it over there.”
The helicopter was certainly fast. As Aiden Howard had said a huge monster began to appear in the distance.
It was just as I saw during the briefing.
A giant dragon with eight heads.
As I looked at that sight one pure question came to mind.
“If I tear off one head will the other seven heads hurt as well?”
Aiden Howard laughed in disbelief at those words.
“This is not the Pope this is a complete lunatic.”
“I told you it wasn’t your place to say anything you crazy savage.”
“Okay crazy Pope. Let me make a bet with you. Whoever kills more heads gets to take the lead in a friendly duel. What do you think?”
Just as I was about to say something back at that.
“I take it you accept!”
Aiden Howard jumped out of the helicopter holding an axe in each hand each as long as a grown man.
That guy is an American irregular.
The world is really ending.
“I can’t lose.”
I sighed and immediately followed the guy down the stairs.
Our Pope please stop this
