Somebody Stop the Pope – 34

Episode 34
3.
100 thousand.
As the number was revealed in the conference room each guild representative let out a sigh.
Their reaction was somewhat understandable because the number 100000 was a number that even I who had already dealt with countless orcs in Eden was quite concerned about.
The number 100000 is by no means a number to be ignored.
Especially in the case of orcs.
“As you know orcs tattoo their arms with tribal tattoos. However our informants have confirmed that there are over 7 different types of orc tattoos.”
The screen displayed pictures that appeared to have been taken from quite a distance with a high-performance camera and as Minister Yoo Seon-ho had said there were clearly seven different tattoos organized.
From what I remember they didn’t seem to be the Orc tribes I knew from Eden.
But those orcs didn’t seem to have much in common with the orcs of Eden.
“Orcs are basically classified as a sub-race that lives in tribes. Even if they are of the same race they have a habit of being completely hostile to those from different tribes. They are a sub-race that has shown a fairly consistent behavior since the Dimension Opening. However for some reason this time the seven tribes have gathered together. It is an extremely unusual event.”
As Minister Yoo Seon-ho said Orcs are a race of humans with extreme exclusivity and belligerence.
So although they were a race that did not easily unite there was one case where these Orcs united as one.
“According to confirmed information a special entity that appears to be leading the orcs has appeared.”
“Are you talking about a special entity?”
“her.”
Judging from the representatives’ reactions it seemed like it had never appeared on Earth before but I knew what that special entity was.
I’ve encountered it a few times in Eden.
A being born with the power to rule over orcs.
A monster that brings together the indiscriminate fighting spirit of the orcs and creates the tragedy of war.
“In the world I came from that entity was called the Overlord.”
Overlord.
I said with a frown and then all the eyes that had been focused on the screen turned to me.
“A creature that is overwhelmingly different from other orcs in every way and breaks down the distinction between tribes. The moment the overlord appears the orcs instinctively swear allegiance to that individual.”
I never thought I would encounter the Overlord again on Earth.

It seems that Earth only has one compared to the four Orc Overlords that appeared at that time so it seems to be a bit fortunate.
“Siwoo could you explain it briefly?”
I shrugged my shoulders slightly at Minister Yoo Seon-ho’s request and continued speaking.
“There’s nothing particularly special about it. It’s just that it has overwhelmingly superior strength compared to other orcs and has the ability to gather other orcs just by its presence.”
Minister Yoo Seon-ho tried to listen to my answer but Representative Lee who had fought with Representative Choi before turned on the microphone and spoke.
“This is Earth. There may be Orcs in the world that Kim Si-woo the Awakened came to but isn’t it possible that they are a completely different species from the Orcs of Earth?”
It just seems like he’s trying to blatantly pick a fight with me.
I looked at him like that snickered and then answered while lightly clasping my hands together.
“That may be true. But I said that because the habits they were showing didn’t seem all that different.”
“In preparation for such a situation the large guilds have established their own research institutes to support research on monsters. I understand that you have only recently returned to Earth so it is best to leave such matters to the experts.”
In short this is a field in which they are confident so they should stop nagging at the returnee and get out of there.
It sounded pretty funny so I decided to play along to the beat.
“You like leaving things to the experts so I guess you left things to the experts at Ground Zero too? But the experts’ skills were really poor.”
“…What are you talking about now?”
“I’m beating around the bush to tell you to shut up if you know the subject. Do you not understand?”
If this were not the Ministry of Personnel Management and Minister Yoo Seon-ho had not been there the fight would have started a long time ago.
“It’s fine to share personal stories but please focus on Monster Wave first.”
He nodded obediently at Minister Yoo Seon-ho’s request.
Even though it looks like this I am a person who knows how to distinguish between public and private matters. There is more than enough time to continue the bad relationship with them so let’s put it aside for a moment.
“Siwoo you seem to know a lot about that special entity. If so do you know a solution to it?”
“It’s simple. Just kill that entity called the Overlord.”
If you kill only the overlord who serves as the central figure the forces under the overlord will automatically split.
Dealing with an army of orcs is quite a challenge. They boast overwhelming strength and fighting prowess compared to other races so if you confront them head-on you will inevitably have a hard time.
It was a strategy chosen because even a single soldier was precious in Eden and it was more effective than expected.
The moment the Overlord’s head was smashed the orcs went crazy and started killing each other.
“Hmm.”
Minister Yoo Seon-ho swallowed his breath at my words.
“That singular entity is located in the center of the 100000 orcs. Even if the wave of monsters ends when you kill that singular entity you still have to break through to reach the center right?”
“If you approach by land that’s true but you don’t necessarily have to approach by land.”
Advancing while turning the orcs into a mess was quite tiring for me.
“You can use the sky. Fortunately there is a very good means of transportation on Earth called a helicopter.”
“Are you saying that you will form a special task force and conduct an air assault operation using helicopters?”
“That’s correct.”
At those words a man who had been silent until then looked at me and asked.
“I’m not sure if killing the anomaly will stop the monster wave but should I take that to mean that we should deploy our hunters to deal with the uncertain possibility?”
Judging by the silence in the conference room that had been bustling with the man’s words it seems he is the person with the most say in the room.
A man who looks to be in his early 30s at most.

However just by looking at the tiger-shaped badge on his suit one could guess his identity.
The representative of the Daeho Guild the number one guild in South Korea.
I answered firmly my eyes fixed on the face of the man I knew I would be seeing for a very long time.
“When did I say I would deploy your hunters?”
“The government will not have the capacity due to the sudden events that occurred simultaneously. That is why Minister Yoo has arranged this meeting…”
“I’m going alone.”
Was this an unexpected development?
Silence fell upon the conference room once again and I finished my speech with a smile on my face as I looked at the guild representatives who had looked like they had chewed shit.
“I heard that I intentionally exaggerated or manipulated my power. I intend to prove it for sure this time. If there are any complaints please let me know now.”
You can’t miss out on a sales opportunity that’s just waiting to happen.
4.
The meeting resulted in two plans being developed.
“Plan A. Under the leadership of Awakened Kim Si-woo we will carry out an aerial assault operation to eliminate the unique entity Overlord and destroy the monster wave.”
“Plan B. In case Plan A fails large guilds including the Daeho Guild will form a defensive line along the old ceasefire line and cooperate with the reorganized 30th Mechanized Infantry Division to block the monster wave.”
If I hadn’t been there things would probably have gone according to Plan B.
In the old days the mechanized infantry division alone would have been strong but most of the modern weapons that South Korea had were destroyed during the <Dimension Opening>.
Besides he said that the compatibility wasn’t very good.
The reason was that the monsters that appeared through the gate had an unknown resistance to Earth’s modern firearms.
At that point it was highly likely that the dimensional system was involved in some way.
Otherwise something like that wouldn’t have happened.
anyway.
Because the situation was so urgent as soon as the meeting was over I headed straight to an air squadron in Paju.
At the scene everything was already prepared.
The helicopter I was going to ride had finished refueling and the pilots who looked very nervous were ready.
“Are you sure you’ll be okay alone?”
“Don’t worry. I feel good about getting some fresh air after a long time.”
By the way in Eden instead of helicopters people flew on griffons trained by dwarves.
It was quite rough and the ride wasn’t very comfortable but compared to that the helicopter was a relief.
I nodded slightly and placed my hand on the helicopter’s hull.
Then pure white flames rose from my hand and instantly covered the car body.
Wooooow-!
[Use active skill <Consecration Lv. ???>.]
[The object is granted a powerful blessing for a certain period of time.]
“Is that really enough to chase away flying monsters?”
“It’ll be pretty effective. Even the hungriest of monsters won’t come looking for a place to die.”
The reason the pilots were so nervous was surprisingly simple.
This is because various flying monsters including wyverns were running wild in the Lost Lands beyond the old ceasefire line.
“Siu-nim. This old man shamelessly asks me to do you another favor. Please please stop the monster wave.”
Although strange phenomena are occurring all over the country the Department of Ability Management sees the Monster Wave as the number one threat.
It meant that I had to clear this place quickly so that the large guilds waiting behind could distribute to other areas.
I feel like there’s quite a bit of weight on my shoulders but I’m okay with this level of pressure.
“I’ll be right back.”
At least it’s lighter than carrying the fate of one dimension.
I spoke briefly to Minister Yoo Seon-ho and then looked at the cameraman of the day who was waiting behind me with a red face.
“Brothers Three. Are you ready?”
“Yes yes! Your Holiness! I will definitely capture it on camera!”
Seol Se-myeong a member of Min-su’s filming crew.
You must be that lucky commoner who was born with a natural resistance to magic that we first encountered in the old Yeoju Abyss Dungeon.
In the case of <Ground Zero> filming was not possible due to magic contamination but it is said that filming was possible in <Lost Land> an area north of the Military Demarcation Line.
So is this area not made barren by the gate’s magic but by the monsters that flowed out of the gate?
So I just brought Mr. Se-myeong.
Since filming is possible there’s no need to give it up.
When competition is about to begin publicity is very important.
How can you resist provocative titles like <I fought 100000 orcs alone> and <I entered the Lost Lands by helicopter>?
I spoke to the three men who were shivering.
“You don’t have to worry too much.”
“I know that I am safest next to the Pope!”
“But why are you shaking like that?”
“It’s because I’m joining this glorious ministry! I can’t contain my excitement. I’m so grateful for this opportunity! Even if I have to dedicate my whole body to Limen….”
…was the body shaking in a different sense?
Even Min-su who has been slightly addicted since the Abyss Dungeon in Yeoju must have a reason for saying “Se-myeong is not in his right mind right now.”
“I’m sure Limen will be very pleased with the voluntary service of the three brothers. Well then let’s go.”
“yes!”
So I got on the helicopter with Mr. Se-myeong.
A helicopter that appeared several times in movies and dramas I watched in the past.
The battalion commander here told me earlier that it was called the UH-60 or something but to me it was a helicopter more familiar to me as the <Black Hawk>.
The inside of the helicopter was much more spacious than I had expected.
That might be because there are only two people sitting in the cockpit.
Let’s see. I just had a briefing with those pilots… What were their names?
Oh right.
“Sergeant Han Seung-woo? Sergeant Shin Kyung-seok?”
“…yes.”
“yes.”
The atmosphere is like that of someone who is walking into a dangerous situation on their own.
A little tension is okay but too much tension always brings about anger. So I asked them subtle questions to ease their tension.
“Do either of you have children?”
Then both of them nodded simultaneously.
“I have one son who goes to elementary school.”
“I have a daughter who just started kindergarten…”
It appears that the rumor that soldiers get married quickly is true.
I nodded slowly to their answers and then said with the corners of my lips slightly raised.
“Please call ahead to let Dad know that you will be leaving work early today. It will take 20 minutes to get there 3 minutes to process and 20 minutes to get back. An hour should be plenty. They work hard for the country so sometimes they need to have something easy.”
Our Pope please stop this
