    Episode 308

    5.

After hearing Limen’s voice at the Statue of Miracles days went by quite smoothly.

Even after searching through all the relics in the castle none of them had the same impact as the miraculous statue.

All the additional evidence simply adds to the fact that Limen exists.

    But that’s enough.

Considering the short week given to me I achieved very meaningful results.

    The certainty that Limen exists.

I got it so that’s it.

“It is said that leaders of various nations and heads of different ethnic groups who received letters from His Holiness the Pope have arrived in Chengdu.”

    “This quickly?”

“The magic of the Magic Tower is developing at a rapid pace. As magic related to logistics is developed so is the magic of movement.”

“Money is the best after all. Right?”

I stood in my office and looked out the window.

The Vatican seemed busier than it has been since I returned.

Priests and knights were welcoming the guests and conducting inspections in case of any unforeseen circumstances.

“This is a continent-wide event that we’ve been holding for the first time in nearly 10 years… We had a short preparation period so there are many shortcomings. Fortunately thanks to the sacred barrier that has been placed over the entire city we can filter out the evildoers in advance.”

“Let’s hold them periodically in the future. Even if I’m not there Archbishop Bayer can preside over the meeting. The recovery and development are all good but the continent still needs order.”

Patriarch Bayer has no lust for power.

That’s why I became more of a believer.

That was precisely why this old man was appointed as the Pope’s representative.

“Please raise Amur well Patriarch Bayer.”

At today’s meeting Amur will be declared my official successor.

You will be proudly appointed as my successor in front of the powerful figures of the continent.

My successor chosen by Limen himself.

If it were Amur he would be a great pope who would live up to her expectations.

And isn’t that the greatest gift I can give to my family here?

“Still Your Majesty your expression looks good. Did you finally get what you wanted here?”

Patriarch Bayer asked me with a smile.

Almost a week has already passed.

    Tomorrow I return to Earth.

I nodded with a sly smile at Archbishop Bayer’s question.

“Not everything… but I got it.”

    “That’s fortunate.”

“So I feel a little better.”

He slowly walked to the chair and sat down. Then he looked at Archbishop Bayer and said.

“Eden is a really fun place. There are a lot of memories there… It’s a place where you can really feel the vibe.”

“Your Majesty Limen will always be with you. And so will we. All life on this land is indebted to you. It is a debt that will never be fully repaid no matter how many years it may take.”

“I have no intention of taking on any debt.”

    “That’s what I’m saying.”

Archbishop Bayer smiled kindly and offered me tea. Then he asked me a question indirectly.

“I am saddened to hear that you will be leaving tomorrow. But I am truly glad to have seen Your Majesty before I die.”

“There’s only one day left and you’re already saying goodbye?”

“That’s my personality. That’s why I’m indifferent when it comes to goodbyes.”

Archbishop Lapart and Patriarch Bayer are like that.

    They both drive very well.

Maybe it was because the tea was grown by the elves themselves but the tea I drank in Eden was incomparable to the tea I tasted on Earth.

I can’t take much with me when I go.

I can only take what I can fit in my arms… Should I take some as a gift for Grandma?

“I have prepared the highest grade sacred stone as Your Majesty requested.”

“That’s good. I need it to get back.”

“It’s not that much. It’s about the size of a fist so I’m worried.”

    “That’s enough.”

Humans with divine powers tend to live considerably longer than other humans.

This may be because the divine power itself is closely related to the restoration of life.

Considering the average lifespan in Eden… Archbishop Bayer has lived quite a long life.

He had an intuition that the time given to him was running out.

“The time that Limen has granted me is not very long. Still I will try to live until Amur grows up to be a young man.”

“You should live much longer right?”

“Even if I am not there the General Council will do well. There are quite a few archbishops who are wiser than I am.”

Archbishop Bayer prepares to say goodbye to me in a calm tone.

As he said the chances of him being alive when I come back to this world are not very high.

Because the axis of time is twisted.

Maybe it’s a world where most of the people I know have disappeared.

If I ever find a way to turn back the axis of time maybe I can see it again.

“It was a great honor for me to be born as a servant of Limen and to have spent time with His Holiness.”

“It makes me sad when the Patriarch says that. Don’t talk as if you’re already dead.”

“Haha… I’m sorry. As people get older they become more emotional. Old memories come to mind and these days it’s a bit like that.”

So while I was enjoying tea time with Patriarch Bayer.

    Knock knock.

    “Come in.”

A young priest came into my room.

The priest bowed to me with a slightly nervous expression and said in a trembling voice:

“All the attendees have arrived. As Your Majesty instructed we have taken them straight to the conference hall instead of the banquet hall.”

    “Wasn’t there anyone who grumbled?”

“There wasn’t. Everyone looked so nervous…”

“Thank you for your hard work. Please tell her I’ll be there soon.”

    “yep!”

    Am I a little difficult?

It looks like the military is in full swing.

The young priest bowed to me again and then carefully left the office.

I shrugged my shoulders watching his back as he walked away.

“Do you think I’m difficult? I’m not that difficult of a person.”

“Anyone who is a hero who saved the continent would have that kind of reaction.”

“…Is that so? Anyway time is up.”

Now it is time to begin his final duties as Pope.

“Let’s go and give our final words of advice to the leaders of the continent.”

I stood up from my seat with Archbishop Bayer and walked towards those who were waiting for me.

    6.

The grandly named ‘First Continental Peace Conference’ began.

The agenda to be discussed at the meeting has already been prepared by the General Assembly.

From magical phenomena observed across the continent to conflicts between countries.

It was a pretty productive meeting until the Magi phenomenon.

But from the ‘dispute’ part where interests between each country were involved it was just a complete mess.

“Why should we give that up?”

“Our kingdom is short of farmland!”

    “What’s different about us?”

In their kingdom those who were trying to save face and maintain a dignified expression were raising their voices and fighting.

Seven kings and two leaders of different races.

The leaders of the other races were not people I knew but they came to me separately to greet me before the meeting began.

    Elves and dwarves.

The two most prominent factions among the current Eden races.

They say they even showed enthusiasm by gathering opinions from other races and attending.

It’s really embarrassing to show such a shameful sight to those who have prepared so hard.

The other kings except for Yuri and Haize seemed to have forgotten that I was there and were just spouting off their passionate speeches.

“Your Majesty it would be better to exercise some restraint…”

Archbishop Bayer whispered quietly in my ear but I just smiled and waved my hand.

“Just give it a try. Let me see how far you can go. Ah can you bring Amur over?”

“I’m waiting outside. Can you come in now?”

“Everyone should have a chance to see for themselves what ugly adults are like.”

The things they do are really funny.

It was such a shame to watch this alone.

There may be some people who criticize us for showing this to children who know nothing but early education is really important.

Aren’t we going to see more of Amur who will lead the next era than me who will soon retire?

While Patriarch Bayer was away to fetch Amur I made eye contact with my old comrades.

The old comrades were of course Haize and Yuri.

Unlike the other kings who were arguing over vested interests with heated expressions those two were looking at me with pale expressions.

It’s as if he’s afraid that I’ll cause trouble.

Do they think I’m some kind of middle school teenager?

I’m not the type of person who would be reckless enough to cause a scene at such an official event.

“Why not ask His Holiness the Pope the hero of this continent to decide?”

    “Good idea.”

Why do fights between grown adults end up with “The Pope decides”?

It’s almost like… students are asking their teacher to mediate?

It’s really ugly to see them just beating drums and janggu among themselves.

“I guess you all are curious about my opinion?”

I looked around at them grinning.

Then the mustachioed king who couldn’t read the mood nodded.

“Yes Your Holiness. I think Your Holiness should sort this out. You are the hero who saved this continent! Who wouldn’t follow Your Holiness’s word?”

“They were just arguing amongst themselves so I was just watching to see how far they would go. Do you know the word ‘jiralbalgwang’?”

    “…yes?”

“What do you mean ‘getting a price tag’?”

He got up from his seat and approached the human kings.

And he said gently patting each person on the shoulder.

“I would understand if Yuri and Haize raised their voices. At least those two were behind me when I fought the Demon King. But what the hell are you guys? Do you think I don’t know what kind of people you are?”

The present kingdoms are successors to the previous dynasties.

While I was fighting the demon lords for my life they were the ones who stayed away from the battlefield out of concern for their own safety.

At least I remember the faces of my comrades who fought alongside me.

If I don’t remember them it means they didn’t fight with me.

It was a situation in which as a human being one would naturally feel fear.

I don’t hate them simply because they’re cowards.

You may not have participated in the battle but if you did at least you shouldn’t raise your voice.

It’s not like other people risked their lives fighting because they were fools.

“Everyone just remember this one thing.”

He looked around at those greedy kings and said:

“This world is a place that countless people have sacrificed to protect. It’s good to seek mutual benefit but at least people should have a conscience.”

There is one thing that works much better than persuasion with these types of people and that is my specialty.

“I will always be watching you. There will only be one next time you will see me.”

At a perfect time Amur entered the conference room.

I led Amur towards me and placed both hands on Amur’s shoulders.

“You will pay the price. Why don’t you start a war? Aren’t you curious to see what happens?”

Eden has returned after 10 years.

Considering what’s happened in the ten years I’ve been gone it’s only right that I give you at least this much warning before I go back.

I truly hope Eden becomes a good place.

“This child will succeed me as the master of the Vatican. I will take good care of him. Whenever I have time I plan to visit Eden and show him what it means to be the Pope.”

A man who can threaten people right in the heart of the Vatican.

    That’s me.

“Tell this clearly not only to you but also to your descendants.”

The kings’ faces turned pale at my words.

Since they have brains they would have understood what I meant.

    “I am always watching you.”

This is my gift to Eden.

If those in power walk the right path at least the world will not go in a bad direction.

    That’s just enough.

What I hope for is for this world to walk on a slightly better path.

“So please take good care of our future Pope. Do you understand what I mean?”

To my question the seven kings answered simultaneously in excited voices.

    “All right!”

“I will keep that in mind!”

    Great attitude.

As expected this method works best on those who don’t listen.

I then looked at the representatives of the other races and the dwarves and elves nodded with smiles.

“We will always stand on the side of the Limen Church.”

    “Don’t worry Your Holiness.”

Why are aliens stronger than humans?

“I think everyone understands what I’m saying so let’s end the meeting here. You’ve come a long way so why don’t you have a meal together before you go?”

Do you know what the saddest thing in the world is?

That’s what it means to get scolded while eating.

I know because I got scolded by my grandmother.

    anyway.

That concludes my last official schedule in Eden.

And before we knew it the time to return to Earth was just around the corner.

    Our Pope please stop this
