Somebody Stop the Pope – 272
by Jessie@AFNCC
Episode 272
5.
Two hours after the siren wailed.
Shenyang the capital of Liaoning Province China.
“I knew that Lord Ja-Hyeon would come but I didn’t expect His Holiness the Pope to come out in person.”
Raphael greeted me with a smile.
As Raphael spoke countless drones with tremendous killing power were moving around him.
A true moving fortress.
I raised my hand lightly towards Raphael.
“Sometimes you have to break away from the norm.”
“Can the Commander-in-Chief step down so easily?”
“Hey you’re the commander of the pants anyway. It’s not even an official position right?”
The official commander and staff are naturally in charge of the military.
But in this expedition my influence is stronger than ever.
So the rumor started going around among people that I was the real deal.
Actually I can’t deny it because it’s not that wrong.
“I heard that the combat performance of the 3rd class of Limen School trainees is not bad.”
“I thought the war between people would continue but it turned out to be a good thing.”
“It looks like the Chinese government has given up on fighting monsters. Tsk.”
Wheeeeeeing- Kwaaaaang!
Raphael clicked his tongue as he fired a particle cannon from his hand.
The wyverns flying in the air are picked off and knocked down by the particle cannon fired by Raphael.
After occupying Dandong we realized that the situation in Manchuria was quite serious.
Countless monsters began to rush in as if the gate raid was not proceeding properly.
It’s war but it feels like we’re continuing the war with monsters.
Is it something like Phase 2 of the Lost Land Recovery War?

“How are things?”
“As you can see the Irregulars over there are quite interesting. I thought they were Chinese Irregulars who were known for their brute force but that’s not the case.”
Wheeeeeeeeing-!
What blocked our path was a huge curtain of wind.
A power similar to magic but slightly different.
If magic uses refined magical power this feels like it uses somewhat primitive magical power.
“I know who it is.”
It’s a capability within our information network.
In China there are Irregulars who have the ability to use the power of nature almost like summoning spirits.
“Liu Haojun.”
An irregular who is Sunri’s right hand man and is called a ‘Taoist’.
Among the Chinese irregulars he was the only one I had never met.
Additional information states that he was a very vile and womanizing guy to put it simply a fucking piece of shit…
An irregular is an irregular.
In one scale it is better than my master Sunri.
“The entire city is protected by the wind. It feels a bit like a barrier.”
Raphael nodded while measuring various indicators through the drone.
I can definitely feel the traces of magic in the wind.
“It looks like you used a magic stone.”
“That expensive thing… If you’re going to use it like this you might as well just sell it.”
“There’s no food to feed the refugees and there are magic stones to buy time… tsk.”
I thought all the troops had withdrawn to this area.
What on earth could possibly be in that city that would have placed Irregulars there?
I’m curious.
Raphael spoke to me as he looked around the wind curtain.
“The analysis is complete. If we burn away the air that makes up the curtain it will collapse. What will you do?”
“I think I’ll relax for the first time in a while.”
Since this had happened more than once Raphael quickly figured out what I was up to.
“Then I will focus on rescuing the city’s civilians.”
“I can do it alone…..”
Slurp slurp.
Robot dogs began to assemble on the floor in an instant.
Raphael said stroking the head of one of the dogs.
“We produced them separately knowing that this kind of situation would arise. The number is roughly 3000?”
“Are you a walking robot factory?”
“Haha! That’s a good expression. Leave the structure to me.”
“Why would someone with such abilities help me so fully? Since you gave up your citizenship why don’t you establish a new country?”

Raphael smiled faintly at my playful remark. Then he shook his head and said.
“I told you there is a world to return to. Your Holiness I have one favor to ask.”
“Make yourself comfortable.”
If it’s Raphael’s request that’s helped me up until now I can grant it.
As I nodded Raphael looked up at the sky and said.
“There has been progress in the research. Recently passages to other dimensions have been opening up all over the planet. They are probably connected to the so-called ancient gods that the Pope spoke of.”
The ancient gods were beings that spread across various dimensions.
In order for them to return to Earth they must first enter through an open interdimensional passage.
Raphael said with shining eyes.
“I understand the principle. I understand the principle but… it seems like I need qualifications to open a dimensional gate using that principle.”
“…godhead.”
I already heard about that part from Terra.
Only the highest constellation that is the divine can open that dimensional passage.
“I hope the Pope will give me a chance to go back to where I came from.”
For me Earth is home but for others it may be another place of exile.
Like Raphael who left his family in the other world.
I nodded slowly to Raphael’s words.
“I promise.”
“As expected the Pope is generous.”
“Wouldn’t it be better to reduce the number of crazy people on Earth by at least one? Let’s say for the sake of my cute little brother.”
Raphael laughed loudly at my words and nodded.
“You must be embarrassed.”
“Ahem.”
He coughed a few times and gathered divine power into both his fists.
“Anyway I’ll be back.”
“Shall I clear the way for you?”
“it’s okay.”
You have to do your own work.
I chuckled and then threw myself straight towards the curtain.
Wheeeeeeeeeeee-!
A sharp wind began to blow as if it were going to gnaw at my whole body.
6.
We broke through the curtain and entered the city.
“hmm.”
Shenyang’s scenery is the most intact of all the Chinese cities I have seen so far.
It looks very clean with no damage.
If there’s just one problem
“It seems there was no separate evacuation operation.”
The citizens here were also unable to evacuate.
This means that if a large-scale fight breaks out civilian casualties become inevitable.
This is a human shield.
“Look at this vile thing I wonder if anyone would call him the right-hand man of Sunri.”
That vegetable goes with that rice.
If the upper water is clear the lower water will also be clear but if the upper water is thinking something else how can it function properly?
“Phew.”
The tallest building in Shenyang.
There the energy of the irregulars was clearly felt.
It also enters the field of vision accurately.
A middle-aged man with a very stylish beard holding a white hat and a white bow.
“It’s not even a Zhuge Liang cosplay tsk.”
An irregular who reminds anyone who sees him of Zhuge Liang from Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
That guy must be Liu Haojun.
The guy looked down at me from high above and waved his white flag lightly.
Okay then.
Kwarrrrrrung-!
A bolt from the blue suddenly strikes from the clear sky.
It wasn’t a hallucination or a prank it was real lightning.
Whoosh whoosh.
The spot where the lightning struck was dug deep as if a bomb had exploded and a fierce flame burst out in that spot.
The problem is right there.
“Please save me!”
“Gyaaaaaaah!”
There were innocent civilians.
Wouldn’t it be normal for irregulars to protect their own civilians?
Just now a civilian in our own country was struck by lightning and died.
“…Are you laughing?”
He was looking down at me with the corners of his mouth raised and his white hat shaking gently.
An unpleasant sensation as if bugs were crawling down the back of one’s throat.
It’s not easy for someone who isn’t even a member of the 100-member church to elicit this much disgust.
“Kim Si-woo you made a mistake by setting foot on this land! Even though Sun-ri was defeated by you the result will be different here.”
Although he calls himself a Taoist his actions are almost identical to those of a wizard.
Since wizards are very good at building forts that guy will be the same.
Even the flow of air seems artificial suggesting that traps have already been set up throughout the city.
And one more thing.
“Was this the place where Baekmyeonggyo offered sacrifices?”
The divine power of the ancient gods is deeply felt in the underground here.
There must have been an altar where Baekmyeonggyo offered sacrifices to their gods.
It seems there was a reason why the guys were guarding it.
“The Great Ones have granted me new powers. This is already a sacred ground. To disobey their commands here is suicide.”
As soon as he said that a red message box appeared before my eyes.
[The area is a sacred area for another deity.]
[The combat power of those with <Religion: ???> in the area is greatly enhanced. In order to destroy the <Holy Land> you must destroy the center of the <Holy Land>.]
Although Terra tried to provide various information through the message window I ended up disabling the message notification function.
“You said you were going to beat up the bad guys so why are you telling them so much? Just beat them until they’re almost dead then beat them one more time and they’re dead.”
That was when.
Srrrrrr.
Slurp.
“Gyaaaaaaah!”
“Ugh!”
Screams began to ring out from all directions.
Buildings that had previously appeared intact began to distort and soon faceless monsters appeared among them.
The boundaries of reality are collapsing.
As if to prove that the city I had been seeing until now was a lie cracks began to appear in <space> itself.
Tsk tsk tsk.
The <gold> stretched out into the air and soon created a huge crack.
Behind the crack an orange sky is revealed.
After a while.
Wheeeeeeeeing-!
The crack began to suck everything around it with tremendous force.
“A new order will be born out of utter destruction.”
That wasn’t a trap that Liu Haojun could have created alone.
A disaster that could only be created by the hands of the ancient gods.
I couldn’t help but laugh as I looked at that horrible sight.
“After doing something like this… how are you any different from the Purifiers?”
My mind becomes clearer.
Purifier?
Baekmyeonggyo?
As far as I can see the two are not that different.
Those who are confusing the world or those who want to destroy the world and create a new one.
They’re both there.
Harmful enemy of humanity.
“That’s why I treat you all the same you piece of trash.”
What I and the Limen Church must do is clear.
Just as in Eden we just guard it.
I looked at Liu Haojun who had moved over the crack without me noticing and smiled brightly.
And he said in a soft voice.
“Liu Haojun have you ever had your spine pulled out while you were still alive?”
“…what?”
“I guess not. Okay.”
Oh thank goodness.
“Today I will give you a rare experience. Don’t refuse.”
Because it’s my first time.
Our Pope please stop this
