Somebody Stop the Pope – 246

Episode 246
80. Division
1.
The answer I got from her was not what I expected.
“I can’t see the future after Siwoo becomes a god. Sorry.”
“Another evasion this time…”
“Instead I think we can guess what happened.”
Limen slowly stood up from his seat.
“That appearance would have been the appearance of Shi-Woo absorbing all the other ancient gods. They were beings who had accumulated ranks for an unfathomable amount of time and it would have been… difficult for Shi-Woo to completely absorb all that rank.”
“It seems like I’ve absorbed Terra’s power.”
“Maybe things weren’t that bad.”
Limen continued his story calmly.
“If Terra made that choice it seems like she went all the way to the final moment. In the end it must have gotten to the point where someone had no choice but to ■ ■.”
I heard that ■ ■ a little while ago.
I couldn’t understand that word alone.
It seemed like causality was getting in the way of my understanding.
But just by looking at the context I could roughly guess what word it was.
“sacrifice.”
At my words Limen looked at me without saying anything. Then he carefully hugged me.
“Future Siwoo has made a big decision. The price for going against the natural order and coming over here will be worse than death. You will drift forever in the dimensional rift.”
What Terra said earlier.
Limen’s warm air seeps into my body.
I said with my eyes closed.
“No matter what happens don’t let go of Limen.”
“Were you thinking of letting me go?”
“…That can’t be.”

“At any time in any space in any situation. I’m always on your side Siwoo. Just remember that one thing.”
What did he mean when he told her not to let go?
Maybe it meant that a situation would come where I would have no choice but to let her go.
“Am I being too clingy?”
“If you kidnapped me to a world I don’t know you must take full responsibility for it.”
“That’s right. I definitely have a sense of responsibility! Siwoo also takes after me and has a great sense of responsibility.”
“You are not my parents…”
“They say that if you like each other you start to resemble each other. Does Siwoo hate me?”
“…That can’t be true.”
Limen slowly pulled away with a smile and caressed my face.
“Don’t hold on to what happened today for too long. It’s something that hasn’t happened yet. You can always change things that haven’t happened.”
“Is that true?”
“Graham. Siwoo is no longer bound by fate. The future Siwoo must have known that and come looking for me. A deity is not a being that accepts fate but a being that creates fate. So Siwoo just needs to continue like he is now.”
She smiled brightly.
The fragrant scent of flowers filled the office.
“I think it’s time for our Pope to become independent. His status has increased so much I’m afraid he’ll surpass me.”
“Why are you feeling so anxious again?”
“Make a promise with me Siwoo.”
“If I can I will.”
“You can’t abandon me just because I become weaker than Siwoo later right? Do you understand?”
I replied to that with a slight annoyance.
“You call that talking? Why would I abandon you?”
Are you satisfied with my answer?
Limen laughed softly. Then he patted my head and said
“Yes that’s the Pope I love. I chose a good Pope.”
In the end what he’s saying is don’t worry.
Limen nodded while holding my hand.
“Just do it like you are doing now. No more no less. Just like you are doing now. Do you understand?”
I looked into Limen’s blue eyes.
It didn’t seem like she’d answer any more questions I asked here. I still don’t know what she’s thinking.
But I do know one thing.
That you still care for me wholeheartedly.
“I think I have a lot of time left… Should I go for a walk for the first time in a while? I heard the fairies have been keeping the garden pretty.”
“…Then what if other people see you?”
“Don’t worry. Other people won’t see it.”
“What if tomorrow morning’s news says I’m hallucinating?”
Pope finally goes crazy because of public opinion that has been stressed!

An article with such a provocative title is already catching my eye.
Still it wouldn’t be bad to take a walk since entry by outsiders is prohibited for the time being.
“Siu.”
“huh?”
“Let’s start from where the children are lying.”
If it was where the children were lying… it was probably where the knights and priests who died in this war were buried.
I nodded willingly to her suggestion.
“Let’s do that.”
“It’s been a while since we went on a date.”
“…Did we date in Eden?”
“Don’t you remember? I showed you the way in the mountains.”
“We decided to call it a distress call.”
“Is that so? Anyway!”
It doesn’t matter what kind of future she sees.
Of course Limen was included among the people I had to protect.
I nodded slightly as I watched the back of Limen as he dragged me away.
2.
Limen returns again the next morning.
Meeting my future self didn’t change much.
I couldn’t be sure if Limen really couldn’t see the future but one thing was certain.
She would never do anything to harm me.
If you’re hiding it even after I told you so there must be a reason.
I just trust her and wait.
I’m sure he’ll tell you the story someday.
Knock knock.
“His Holiness.”
I was standing at the office window looking out at the scenery outside.
Someone knocked on the door and soon Archbishop Lapart appeared.
“Mr. Im Seong-ho has arrived.”
It appears that the protest leader Mr. Lim Seong-ho who had been scheduled to meet yesterday has arrived.
I answered turning around.
“Please come in.”
“yes.”
After a while Archbishop Laparte came inside with Mr. Im Seong-ho.
As soon as Mr. Im Seong-ho saw me he bowed his head politely.
“Good morning Your Holiness. Thank you for inviting me to the temple.”
“No problem. Thank you for coming. Now please take a seat.”
The season is already getting closer to summer.
It was quite hot outside as beads of sweat formed on Im Seong-ho’s forehead.
“Archbishop Laparte.”
“Yes Your Majesty.”
“Please bring me some cold tea.”
“All right.”
Archbishop Laparte quickly brought out the tea.
Mr. Im Seong-ho carefully took a sip of tea and exhaled gently.
“thank you.”
“I’m sorry if I unilaterally broke my promise yesterday and made you feel bad.”
“No. I know that the Pope is not the type of person to break his promises easily. I thought there must be some reason for that.”
“I am grateful for your understanding.”
I looked at Mr. Im Seong-ho’s face.
The reason I brought this person here today was not to ask him to stop spreading anti-war sentiment.
Sometimes it’s important to hear voices.
No matter how important the values I pursue are pushing forward stubbornly without listening to others is nothing but self-righteousness.
Yesterday evening Team Leader Kim of the Ability Management Department sent me information about the protesters.
And when I read about Mr. Im Seong-ho I could fully understand why he was against the war.
“I had two younger brothers.”
Mr. Im Seong-ho began to speak slowly.
“Luckily both of them awakened as players. The older one worked in the Ability Management Department and the younger one was a member of a large guild.”
Mr. Im Seong-ho told his story even though I didn’t ask.
I listened to his story quietly.
“My older brother died while performing his security duties at the scene of the terrorist attack at the ministerial meeting. And my younger brother headed to China to seek revenge on Jeong Hwa-ja.”
He took another sip of tea his throat burning.
And he continued speaking slightly clenching his fist.
“A death notice came to my house a week ago. It said that my younger brother had died during an operation.”
This man lost both of his younger brothers in an instant.
“My father passed away early so the three brothers bickered among themselves while trying hard to take care of my mother. But now… now I’m the only one left.”
He never told me anything about his mother.
His mother collapsed from shock and was hospitalized.
I heard that he still hasn’t regained consciousness.
A man who unlike his other brothers could not become an Awakened One. What on earth could he do on his own?
“I think someone needs to speak up.”
This was the conclusion he eventually reached.
For some war was an opportunity but for others it was a tragedy in which everything was lost.
That’s why I could understand this man.
If I were in this man’s situation what choice would I have made?
Is it right for him to follow his little brother and cry out for revenge and is it wrong for him to raise his voice like this?
From the beginning this wasn’t a question of right and wrong.
It’s just that our positions are different.
“I think the Pope might be offended. But I and we… will continue to speak out.”
It wasn’t just this person.
Most of those involved in the protest had their own circumstances.
If there are a hundred people there are a hundred stories.
They are not wrong they are just different but I had no intention of ignoring or trampling on them because they are different.
I met Mr. Im Seong-ho’s eyes and nodded.
“I didn’t call you to stop you from speaking up.”
“…I know.”
“But I still want to tell you one thing.”
I took a sip of the tea placed in front of me. The bitterness of the green tea lingered in my mouth.
No maybe green tea wasn’t bitter after all.
Maybe my mouth is bitter right now.
“If you give me a variety of voices I and our church will get closer to the right path. I may be ignorant but I know that much.”
If we were a business pursuing efficiency and profit that might be fine but we are ultimately a religious group.
A religious group that seeks to embrace the weak and move forward together.
Ending the Purifier doesn’t mean everything is over.
In the end our fight will continue. I can’t just ignore everything and let it pass.
“Our door is always open. Come by anytime.”
What I can do for them is not to ignore their voices.
That’s it.
At my words Mr. Im Seong-ho lowered his head without saying a word. Then he spoke in a trembling voice.
“I’m sorry and thank you.”
“I am the one who should be sorry.”
Just because they speak out doesn’t mean public opinion is formed.
Public opinion is formed because there are many people who agree with that opinion.
Mr. Im Seong-ho slowly got up from his seat and bowed his head to me again.
Then he slowly opened the door and went out.
I watched his back as he walked away. Then I spoke to Archbishop Laparte who was standing next to me in a subtle manner.
“The mood is about to change. The Purifiers have dug into a very sore spot.”
“Attacking the cause of war has always been an effective means. They are using human methods unlike Eden.”
“Lucifer was the boss back then but now he’s someone else.”
It was perhaps a more terrifying means than the undead.
I became convinced after talking to Mr. Im Seong-ho who just left.
Up until now the war has been fought with full support but now that the key stronghold of Nanjing has fallen and tremendous results have been achieved the atmosphere of the war will change.
The world is in chaos and confusion due to the appearance of the ancient gods.
How long will we be able to receive full support?
“From now on it is a turning point.”
Once anti-war public opinion begins to spread it cannot be easily reversed.
I let out a small sigh.
The division had already begun and it didn’t take long for us to realize it.
Our Pope please stop this
