Somebody Stop the Pope – 233

Episode 233
5.
The two fallen soldiers were buried in a small graveyard we had prepared in front of the sacred tree.
It was a place that the fairies paid special attention to.
A flower graveyard created by the fairies and their tree spirits.
Even the fairies who are usually playful and talkative wait solemnly for this moment while holding small flowers.
Although I couldn’t be there for their final moments I was there to see their bodies sink into the ground.
Both deceased were first-class trainees.
According to Leo’s report both of them were fatally injured while rescuing their fellow comrades.
“excuse me….”
A middle-aged woman wearing mourning clothes approached me.
She said trying to erase the tear stains from her eyes.
“I hope my son Limen will take good care of me.”
The only mother of Yoo Seon-il one of the fallen soldiers.
He was the only family member who arrived at the scene.
Mr. Kim Ki-seok’s family members said that they all died during the opening of Dimension.
I nodded my head with difficulty.
“yes.”
In response to my answer she wiped away her tears with trembling hands.
And he said in a very dry voice.
“My son did something good and passed away but my heart… My heart really….”
Even I couldn’t imagine how parents who have lost a child feel.
That’s why I just kept her words quietly in my heart.
She forced a smile as she looked at her son’s coffin.
“I had my last conversation with Seon-il the day before yesterday. He said he had no regrets. He said he would make the same choice if he were to go back. He was a son who was proud of himself until the end… If I regret it here how can he leave in peace?”
The moment you lose someone precious is always painful.

Mr. Yoo Seon-il’s mother nodded silently for a long time.
“I was absentmindedly watching the news this morning and there was a news report about how many people in Shanghai had their lives saved. My children… My poor son must have saved them right?”
I nodded at those words.
“Yes.”
Those two were willing to fight for unrelated people in unrelated places.
And when his comrades were in danger he threw himself into the effort without hesitation and saved countless people.
“We will remember you until the last moment while we are in this world.”
All we can do for them is remember their names.
We had to move forward with their names buried deep in our hearts.
I spoke in a low voice.
“…sorry.”
Then Yoo Seon-il’s mother slowly shook her head.
Then he looked at the empty seats for the bereaved family of Brother Kim Ki-seok and said:
“I heard that the young man has no family. Your Holiness may I pray with you for the young man?”
At those words I nodded with a weak smile.
“If you could do that… I would really appreciate it.”
Finally the coffins of the two were laid in the cemetery and the knights immediately covered them with earth.
Archbishop Lapart prays before him with his hands clasped together.
“Merciful Limen please open your arms to our warriors who spread your love on this land. Let your love be their rest and take their glorious souls.”
Archbishop Laparte’s voice spread out in all directions.
The rest of the people present also followed Archbishop Laparte and offered prayers each in their own way.
I took in their appearances one by one.
Even the knights who tried hard to hold back their tears.
There are also knights who bow their heads and sob.
The colleagues who once worked with those two are each sending off their colleagues in their own ways.
That’s how this moment passes.
When the saddle procedure was finally completed.
Woohoo.
A pure white light emanated from the sacred tree that had remained in its original blue state.
A dazzlingly bright light.
The light warmly covered the earth where the warrior’s coffin was laid.
At that moment I realized that Limen had entered the sacred tree.
She was reaching out and caressing the coffin of the fallen soldier.
“My proud children.”
Limen’s voice rang out.
That voice wasn’t just for me.
Archbishop Lapart also Leo.

And furthermore to all the believers who were there.
Her soft warm voice descended.
“Thank you for bearing my name.”
Those two words were the end of it.
But her voice clearly resonated throughout the sanctuary.
Mr. Yoo Seon-il’s mother who was listening to the voice next to me sobbed softly.
And then he nodded with tears in his eyes.
“Thank you Limen.”
She may not have seen it but I could clearly see it.
Limen hugs her as she grieves.
I made eye contact with Limen. Then Limen smiled sadly.
“I’m sorry for always giving you difficult tasks Siwoo.”
This is her oracle that only I can hear.
I was curious about what she had been talking about with Terra but I wasn’t worried about that.
Limen always thought of me first.
So there must be a reason why she doesn’t tell you.
Someday you will tell me the truth.
Until then I just have to move forward and do what I have to do.
“Please take care of me.”
I muttered briefly and Limen nodded slowly.
And after a while.
Slurp.
The light that had been covering the holy land soon seeped into the ground.
I know full well that it was the best courtesy that Limen could give to the fallen soldiers.
Even though the interdimensional connection was difficult it means that Limen also felt sorry for their deaths to the point that he appeared directly.
The moment of miracle created by Limen ended and was soon followed by the hymn of the knights.
I turned around as I heard them singing a hymn in unison.
Their hymns continued long after I entered the temple.
6.
After all the funeral procedures for the fallen soldiers were completed the sect’s troops headed back to Shanghai.
The church leaders including me gathered briefly in the temple and held a meeting.
“It may not be compensation in money but we must make it possible for the bereaved families of the fallen soldiers to live without wanting anything.”
“The foundation has already prepared the funds. We will take steps to ensure that there is no disruption in that regard.”
“What about Brother Kim Ki-seok’s case?”
“In the case of Brother Kim Ki-seok there is no one to whom compensation can be paid because he has no family. Therefore we plan to continuously donate the same amount to each childcare facility in Brother Kim Ki-seok’s name.”
“…That’s a good idea. Please proceed with it. Do I need to pay separately?”
“Yes just sign this document.”
The death of one person brings new life to another.
The children who received donations from Brother Kim Ki-seok will one day grow up and find their own sponsors.
And they will remember the name of Brother Kim Ki-seok.
It was a good idea and a good try.
I nodded as I signed the papers Archbishop Laparte handed me.
“Although we were too busy in Eden to take care of the fallen soldiers let’s make sure to take care of them on Earth.”
“I will always keep that in mind.”
The welfare project that rewards meritorious service is absolutely necessary.
Even though we are a group united by our faith in Limen we must prepare many things for those who fight with their lives on the line.
Archbishop Laparte took back the papers that were in front of me.
“I don’t think I’ll ever forget today.”
“why?”
“Because Limen-nim appeared in person for the soldiers. This is the second time I’ve seen Limen-nim appear in person.”
“When is the first one?”
“When I first came to the temple after realizing my destiny as a prophet Limen-nim welcomed me in the form of a priest. At first I didn’t know it was Limen-nim but later I learned that it was Limen-nim.”
Looking at that it seems that Limen really knows how to take good care of his followers.
I smiled faintly as I listened to Archbishop Laparte’s testimony.
And said to Leo and Luna.
“When you return to Shanghai I hope you take good care of your troops. This is the first time you’ve lost a comrade so even if you don’t show it you’ll be deeply hurt. You know what it feels like to lose a comrade right?”
Then Luna sighed and nodded.
“That goes for you too Your Majesty. It would be better if you could comfort him directly.”
“…I’m sorry I’m sorry.”
These are people who would not have died if I had not thought of advancing into China.
No matter how much I pretend not to know and how much I try to get used to it this moment is not easy.
The moment I receive a receipt for the choice I made.
But this time it hurts even more because that receipt is someone’s life.
At my words Luna let out a deep sigh and then slammed her hand on the table.
Kuung.
“Sir Reventon.”
Archbishop Lapart reprimanded Luna for her impulsive behavior but this time Luna did not back down.
“His Holiness.”
She called me in a voice full of annoyance.
“Since you returned home have you put aside all your memories of Eden?”
“What are you talking about?”
“Come to your senses. Why did someone who was good at pushing people to their deaths in Eden become so sentimental?”
Luna has a talent for saying things that hurt even when she can’t say them back.
“Instead of wasting time worrying about such trivial things please take better care of the kids’ equipment. No one will blame you Your Majesty okay?”
After spitting out a lot of her annoyance at me she strode out of the office.
I know why Luna said that to me.
This is the original place.
A place where you shoulder someone’s life with a split-second choice.
Like Luna said did I change a bit when I returned to Earth?
I didn’t necessarily want to deny Luna’s words. People are creatures who change depending on the situation.
“Your Majesty I also agree with Lord Reventon.”
Even Archbishop Lapart who would have immediately followed Luna out and scolded her looked at me and said.
“No one blames His Holiness.”
“I know I know….”
“Isn’t that enough?”
“…You all really leave people speechless.”
Everyone is risking their lives doing this so I can’t pretend to be weak now.
I think I became sensitive because one of the first students in our school whom I raised with great care died.
That’s what war is like.
It drives those involved to their limits both physically and mentally.
I took a deep breath and looked at Leo.
“Go out and get Luna…”
The moment I blurt out the story to Leo.
“His Holiness!”
Luna who had just left the office returned into the office holding her cell phone.
“I already have something to say…”
“No look at this! This!”
Luna thrust her phone in front of my face.
I grumbled as I snatched the phone away from me.
“What’s the fuss about…”
“Hurry up and check out the news articles.”
“hmm.”
Knights floating above Luna’s smartphone.
The articles were covered in red letters with the words ‘Breaking News’ and they all had one thing in common.
“Breaking News) We’re under attack from flying demons presumed to be the Beijing Bone Dragon!”
“The extent of the damage cannot be measured.”
“The worst disaster since the restoration of Shanghai?”
“(Photo) The burning palace”
I frowned as I read through the articles.
It was time to return to the battlefield.
