    Episode 232

    3.

What is Limen trying to hide from me?

Up until now Limen had never hidden anything from me.

It was an unspoken rule between her and me and it was the way she built trust with me.

It may have been an inevitable choice for Limen who had kidnapped me to Eden.

At first I resented her a lot but now I think it was a good thing.

If she hadn’t taken me to Eden I wouldn’t have had the strength to protect my family.

That’s why even though I grumbled on the outside I accepted her in my heart.

But what was it that Limen and Terra were talking about earlier?

If my memory serves me right I could clearly see the sadness on Limen’s face.

    “ha.”

Most of what happened between Terra and Limen was something I didn’t know about so it wasn’t easy for me to even guess.

    It’s just frustrating.

“Your Majesty did Lord Limen come and leave just a moment ago?”

“That’s right Limen opened the door for me.”

    “It’s just a blessing.”

The Abyss Dungeon naturally disappeared and we were able to escape out of the dungeon right away.

The Abyss Dungeon had disappeared without a trace as if it had never been there.

An empty pit takes its place.

I looked at Leo and smiled bitterly.

    “There are no injuries…not bad.”

Leo was covering his abdomen with his bloody hands.

He places his hand on his abdomen and blood flows out.

It looks like the bleeding hasn’t completely stopped.

I took a deep breath and approached Leo. Then I lightly breathed divine power onto Leo’s affected area.

    “The wound is quite deep.”

“My intestines are about to spill out so I quickly put my hand on them…”

“…That’s it. You don’t have to explain it.”

    “All right.”

Leo’s fighting style is one where he doesn’t spare his body so if he gets injured once it’s pretty severe.

This is something I have experienced while fighting together for a long time in Eden.

Leo spoke to me with a rare smile.

    “It brings back old memories.”

    “Don’t raise the death flag.”

“When I picked up Your Majesty’s severed arm and brought it to you you smiled and put it back on didn’t you?”

    “When you fight Lucifer?”

“Yes. Even now my heart races when I think about how cool that scene was back then.”

Leo a prophet from the North has a disposition close to that of a savage warrior.

Treating Leo like this really brings back old memories.

Back then we really fought to survive.

    “His Holiness.”

While I was concentrating on Leo’s treatment Luna who was in relatively better condition than Leo sat down on the rubble of the building and said.

    “why?”

“Mr. Lee Se-min can’t you just sign a lifelong contract with our church? This is no joke. If there had been just one more person like that in Eden tens of thousands more people would have lived.”

As she spoke she pointed to Lee Se-min whose whole body was drenched in the blood of his enemies.

Maybe it was because the battle had just ended but his body was still oozing with life energy.

A man who has crossed countless battlefields.

The strength he possessed was something that could never have grown in a greenhouse.

Power focused on biting and crushing the enemy.

The wildness he displayed while fighting was clearly terrifying.

Back on Earth he seemed to have suppressed his wildness for the sake of his family but the Purifiers stirred it up.

They say that if an unlucky person falls backwards his nose will break.

    That is exactly right.

If I were to touch you why would I touch a man like that?

    “He is a coveted talent.”

Luna looked at Isemin her lips licking and I sighed deeply again.

    “He is a married man.”

“No not in that way. If Mr. Lee Se-min would just devote himself to our church… I think the workload would be greatly reduced.”

“Are you going to take responsibility for the labor costs? Do you think irregular workers are cheap?”

“How can I not be like Raphael? I do it because I feel sorry. Because I feel sorry.”

Luna who is stingy with praise when it comes to battles would go so far as to say something like that so no further explanation is needed.

I slowly nodded my head while looking at Lee Se-min who was steaming from his whole body.

    “It’s a strong reinforcement.”

This is also the biggest reason why Ja-Hyeon could be placed on the Korean Peninsula.

We must be wary of the hatred that lies behind his smile but at least the Lee Se-min we have seen so far is not a man who would make a mistake because of hatred.

If he was that kind of man he would never have been able to return to Earth.

“Still the most urgent fire has been put out.”

Luna said placing her weapon down next to her.

Her hair slightly damp with sweat is dyed in the sunset light.

    “We’ve eliminated all risk factors.”

“Why didn’t the Baekmyeonggyo guys come? They must be the ones who always leave places related to the ancient gods. Didn’t they know better?”

    “I don’t think so.”

The Purifiers must have figured out the true nature of this Abyss Dungeon long ago.

The sanctuary of the ancient gods.

If they had tried to subdue them they would have done so but considering the relationship between divine power and magic the loss would have been significant.

So that’s why they threw a wrench into our schedule.

I could tell that without having to think about it for too long.

If this sanctuary had not been destroyed and had extended its influence to the Earth… Shanghai would have become a sanctuary the birthplace of the ancient gods.

“There’s no way those who secretly leaked information to us wouldn’t have done the same thing to Baekmyeonggyo.”

Clearly Baekmyeonggyo must have also obtained information about this Abyss Dungeon.

The fact that they still didn’t move means that the Baekmyeong Church has given up on this Abyss Dungeon.

Terra said that just because he is an ancient god does not mean he is on the same side.

Could it be that this <Hungry Longing> guy was an enemy of Baekmyeonggyo?

[The system has determined that your rank has increased.]

    [Special quest <Myth – Prologue> is created.]

[Write your new story on this land.]

Regardless of what Baek Myeong-gyo is doing or not countless message windows pop up before his eyes.

    It’s a myth.

He has a knack for making a pretty grand story about killing ancient gods.

I smirked as I checked the sentence “Absorb another ancient god” written in the quest completion conditions.

In any case Shanghai came completely under our influence.

    4.

After the Abyss Dungeon which could be said to be the greatest risk factor was destroyed we focused our efforts on removing the traces of the Purifier that remained throughout Shanghai.

The ones who played a major role during the purge operation were none other than the heretic inquisitors led by Lee Eun-taek.

    Tunnel underpass.

Various hiding places that are not visible on the outside.

Inquisitors who thoroughly search enemy facilities that are not easily found.

They even ferreted out all the magic users hiding among the refugees.

Was it worthwhile to provide the Inquisitors with such a good teaching tool as Belphegor?

Remove the unclean things and rebuild the broken buildings.

With sufficient manpower and capital invested the city quickly came back to life.

“We repair equipment that needs repair at low prices.”

“The relief supplies sent by the Limen Foundation are sufficient so those who need them please wait while maintaining order.”

“If you need medical assistance please head to the temporarily set up field hospital!”

“We have started restoration work on important facilities including hospitals. We are also urgently recruiting medical personnel such as nurses and doctors!”

I nodded slowly looking out the window of my office.

Areas that were regaining their original appearance were gradually increasing around the holy site.

Thanks to the improved supply routes there was no longer a shortage of food or medical supplies.

In addition daily necessities were also being supplied quickly by the Chinese government – purchased from South Korea and Japan.

It will be difficult to return to the state before the civil war broke out but compared to Shanghai just a few weeks ago the recovery has been remarkable.

    Security has also improved noticeably.

Our sect’s knights were periodically conducting reconnaissance of Shanghai and the Shanghai police were also gradually regaining their power.

    Among these various positive signals

[The number of followers of the Limen sect increases exponentially.]

[You have earned a divine point.]

    [Divine Score….]

The number of believers in our church was also skyrocketing.

Even the number of Shanghai citizens who formally submitted applications for admission was difficult to count.

    “…the results were good.”

To cut to the chase our church’s landing operation in Shanghai was a great success.

We succeeded in completely restoring Shanghai and rescuing many civilians.

In addition it was a tremendous achievement to establish a base for our religious order in mainland China.

“Your Majesty the time has come.”

    “already?”

However no matter how successful the advance was there was not only good news.

Leo who entered the office was wearing black priest’s robes despite his injuries.

The priestly garb Leo was wearing was a uniform that was only worn on important religious occasions unlike the combat uniform.

I nodded slightly at Leo’s words and then adjusted the white uniform I was wearing.

“If you don’t mind I’ll help you.”

    “thanks.”

Leo comes up to me quietly and examines my outfit.

A white uniform that I have never worn since coming to Earth.

Within the Limen order it was a garment that only the Pope could wear called the “Vestment of the Faithful.”

It can be said that it is a vestment made of consecrated cloth no different from a holy relic.

There was only one reason why I was wearing this dress today when I had never worn it before.

Because today there was something I absolutely had to do as the Pope.

    “let’s go.”

    “yes.”

I went to Seoul through the underground passage of the temple with Leo.

I was able to get to Seoul through the passage between the holy places and headed straight out of the temple.

Unlike the bustling atmosphere of the Shanghai Holy Land the atmosphere of the Seoul Holy Land was solemn.

The Seoul Shinto shrine would normally be filled with worshippers who came to pray but today there was not a single person there.

I walked through the quiet hallway and headed outside the temple.

Then soon the knights of our order holding ceremonial swords came into view.

As soon as they saw me they all raised their swords into the sky.

The sunlight fell on their swords and I slowly nodded as I descended the steps of the temple.

In front of the temple steps stood two coffins covered with white cloth.

    I quietly approached the coffin.

Then Archbishop Lapart who was standing next to the coffin handed me a bowl filled with holy water.

    “His Holiness.”

    “Thank you Archbishop Lapart.”

He slowly took the bowl then carefully took the holy water in his hand and sprinkled it over the two coffins.

He repeated that movement in silence for a long time.

And finally when the bowl was almost empty I said in a low voice.

“Brother Yoo Seon-il Brother Kim Ki-seok. Your devotion to the weak to the suffering and to Limen will be remembered in all of our hearts.”

Of the seriously injured in the battle that took place in Shanghai these two ultimately lost their lives.

I slowly swept the two coffins with my hand.

It was a moment I had experienced countless times in Eden. I had hugged the corpses of my comrades who had fought alongside me and even seen them die right before my eyes.

If you say you’re used to it you’re lying.

    Losing someone.

I can’t get used to losing my people. I just have to endure it.

I looked down at the coffin quietly and spoke in a low voice.

“I am proud that you are my brothers. I am grateful that you are my brothers. May Limen embrace you in his arms.”

They were the first and second official warriors of our church.

It was only after I saw the coffin with my own eyes that I was able to realize it.

That we are now truly in the midst of a war.

I stood in front of the coffin for a long time in silence.

    Our Pope please stop this
