    Episode 164

    5.

As Raphael said there had been no contact with Limen recently.

Because I haven’t had any oracles or manifestations since the last time I said I would take care of the strange things happening in Eden.

Virtually no contact has been made.

On the outside I pretended that everything was fine but deep down I had an anxiety that I didn’t know I had.

And now this guy has brought out that hazy feeling.

“Does it matter why you found out? Haha the process is not important. Only the results are important.”

“Should I bring the investigator over separately before you can tell me?”

    “Are you a detective?”

Raphael looked around with interest at my words and this time Aiden sighed and said.

“It would be best not to face that investigator Raphael.”

“Hmm? The detective seems to be quite violent huh?”

    “The investigator is over there.”

Aiden gestured to my hand with his chin and only then did Raphael burst out laughing as if he understood.

“Do you put your fist before the law? The Pope is as hot-tempered as I’ve heard.”

“I can show you what’s really hot.”

    “I will decline.”

    Woof woof woof.

Raphael smiled and waved his right arm.

Then the purple crystal embedded near his wrist began to sparkle.

“This guy hates fire. His name is David.”

    “…David?”

“The first body I modified in the other world was this right arm. That’s why I specially named it David.”

I felt an unknown energy stirring from the crystal.

In contrast to the hot fighting spirit that Aiden radiated the aura that Raphael emitted was surprisingly cold.

A completely opposite personality to Aiden.

Raphael’s aura contained a coldness that was more like that of hard metal than that of a human being.

A unique vibe that is irregular.

Perhaps that energy was what Aiden had been talking about: ‘psychic energy’.

“I think they want to have a go at it.”

“Not at all. There’s no guarantee that I’d win a fight against the Black Pope. Even though I look like this I’m more of a scientist and I hate fighting. And I didn’t even bring a combat suit. David is acting like this because he’s afraid of the Pope. He’s equipped with his own artificial intelligence. You can think of it as a kind of combat computing device.”

There are returnees from the martial arts world and returnees from the fantasy world. How could there not be a world with technology that surpasses Earth?

I had an inkling of it when I first heard the nickname Mad Scientist.

Raphael raised both his arms as if to prove to himself that he had no hostile intentions.

“According to David’s calculations I have no chance of winning. If even Aiden can’t move how can I?”

“Okay then tell me how you figured it out.”

“That’s what we were talking about right? Let’s continue.”

Raphael continued his story lowering the arm he had been holding.

“I came back to Earth two years ago. Since I came back the area I have been most focused on is the Gate. The Gate refers to a type of dimensional resonance phenomenon a phenomenon where dimensions are connected. The dungeons that suddenly appear are also another form of the Gate.”

After that he continued with a simple explanation of the gate. Complex scientific theories and such flowed out of his mouth continuously and soon a story related to our church flowed out.

“While I was continuing my research the Pope returned and soon after the aliens from Eden also came over. It was unprecedented for an alien who had a connection with a returnee to come over so I set up a separate observation device.”

    Observation device?

I haven’t heard anything like that from Aiden either?

I glared at Aiden straight away and he shook his head and waved both his hands.

    “I really don’t know Siu.”

“Ah! It has absolutely nothing to do with Aiden. Even the White House doesn’t know about it. I installed it on my own.”

    “Look look.”

You installed observation devices around us without our permission?

I don’t know if I should call this rude or annoying. Maybe it’s both.

“What we were able to confirm through the observation device was that irregular dimensional resonance phenomena occurred in the temple of the Limen sect.”

He told me the dates when the dimensional resonances occurred and when I thought about those dates carefully they were all when Limen appeared or gave oracles.

“And then I picked up a really strong signal. That was the day the wall that had been isolating Ground Zero in Seoul disappeared.”

“…the day Limen used his power himself.”

“That’s right! It would have taken at least several months for human power but I was surprised even just watching it on video. That’s why I made this hypothesis at the time. The sacred site of the Limen Church is being intervened by a deity from another world! But I hadn’t received any signals recently. So I was just guessing. And the Pope turned that guess into certainty.”

After hearing all that I sighed and nodded.

    “…was that a bluff?”

“Because the simplest method is the most effective. I guess Your Holiness doesn’t have much experience with this? Hahaha!”

I spoke softly to Raphael who burst into laughter again.

“It’s not that I didn’t have any experience it’s that I didn’t need to have any experience.”

    “yes?”

“There was a noble who used to bluff me. I killed him halfway and no one has messed with me since.”

At those words Raphael looked at me with a blank expression for a moment.

Okay I’ve got the momentum going.

    Let’s push forward like this.

“So to summarize what you said you wiretapped and monitored our church’s activities with unauthorized objects. Is that right?”

“No is that how it is?”

    “yes.”

But this guy was a formidable opponent.

Raphael immediately knelt down and said.

“I’m sorry. I’m the type of person who gets distracted when I get fixated on something.”

    “No but even your knees?”

“I tried kneeling to see if you wouldn’t hit me. Should I take David off? If that makes you feel better….”

I guess something is wrong with this city called LA.

Otherwise these characters would not have gathered at once.

“Let’s leave the responsibility for the situation later and listen to the solution I mentioned earlier.”

“Ah how! I will tell you the method from now on.”

Raphael jumped up from his seat patted his chest and spoke confidently.

“My head is the way! Please allow me to conduct full-scale research at the temple of the Limen sect! Oh and I heard that you are researching weapons that utilize divine power. I will help you with that as well. Divine missiles! Divine self-propelled guns! Just say the word! I will do all of them…..”

I should have known from the moment I started bombarding my family with gifts.

This man had a natural talent for captivating people with his gifts.

But I wasn’t the type of person to fall for such sweet talk.

I asked him with a very serious expression.

“Why our temple of all places?”

“Lord Limen has already sent his followers to Earth through the dimensional passage. If we can only study the method we can use the gate as we wish.”

Will the system that governs this world just sit by and watch this happen?

Still I think it can’t hurt to try.

Since Limendo was probably researching his own methods we also needed to put in our own efforts.

    But just one thing.

“What on earth are you doing this for?”

I still have no idea what this man’s purpose is.

Raphael opened his mouth as if he had been waiting for my question.

“I had no intention of returning to Earth. My wife and three-year-old child were left behind in that world.”

“…Then why did you come back?”

“This is not a return Your Holiness.”

Raphael’s face which had been smiling until now shows a hint of anger.

“Deus ex machina. The god of the world I was on. That machine-made monster that bastard banished me to Earth. I must return to where I came from. I must bring back my family my loved ones.”

It wasn’t an anger that could be imitated or acted out.

They say there are as many stories as there are people in the world.

Suddenly I remember the years I spent in Eden.

The years I gritted my teeth and endured to see my family again. For me returning was a reunion but for this person returning was a separation.

I watched Raphael quietly trying to suppress his anger. After a while he slowly nodded.

    “great.”

“Will you allow me to do research?”

“When you try to persuade me in the future don’t approach me with scientific terms or knowledge. Instead try to appeal to my emotions like you did now. I’m a liberal arts major.”

    “Thank you for the advice.”

I concluded my speech by handing him a glass.

    “Let me hear your story.”

There’s still a long night left.

Enough to fill it with stories.

    6.

The White House in Washington D.C.

In the Oval Office at the White House a lively conversation was taking place.

“Raphael and Kim Si-woo are probably meeting by now. However it is difficult for us to accept sending Raphael to Korea after Madam Aiden. Having two Irregulars in a foreign country could pose a serious threat to security.”

“This old man was just giving advice and in the end it was the President himself who gave the final approval for Raphael’s vacation.”

“There might have been another way.”

    “well.”

Emma Miller sipped her tea cautiously smiling faintly.

“I don’t think there was any way to stop Raphael.”

“Madam will you be returning to Korea after this forum is over?”

“Yes I have. I’m not done with everything there yet. And I have some really good friends there. It’s a really great place.”

A warm smile appeared on her lips.

The President just sighed as he watched her smile.

“This kind of power drain is difficult in a situation where the Union’s clutches threaten the American mainland.”

“It was also Siwoo who uncovered the Union’s evil hand. Isn’t it really reassuring to have an ally like Kim Siwoo in times like these?”

“Madam it seems like you always highly evaluate Kim Si Woo.”

    “Other people underestimate Siwoo.”

Emma Miller didn’t think Kim Si Woo was a threat to America.

No rather I thought that Kim Si-woo would be a great breakwater from the disasters that would befall this land in the future.

“Raphael has a deep anger inside him. He is a completely different case from Aiden who had nothing left to lose. Raphael’s cooperation with the United States was not because he was a patriot. It was for extremely personal reasons.”

A returnee who has a place to return to.

The Raphael Emma Miller saw was a man who would do anything to get back.

Up until now we have simply been walking in the same direction as the United States but if our perspectives change we will have a relationship that can fall apart at any time.

Anger blurs the line between good and evil.

That is why the possibility that Raphael might change course for his own purposes could not be completely ruled out.

But what if Kim Si-woo is next to him?

At least the worst could have been prevented.

    “Mr. President.”

    “Yes ma’am.”

“Since it’s just the two of us you can be honest with me. Didn’t you feel relieved when Raphael said he was going to Korea?”

    “that….”

    The president trailed off.

Because he too could not deny what Emma Miller said.

Emma Miller admired the President’s expression with amusement then put down her teacup.

“I think the Vatican has already taken the lead?”

    “You mean Grace Barkley?”

The President thought back to the things he had been briefed on earlier about Grace Barkley’s personality. Then he thought back to Aiden Raphael.

He soon came to one conclusion.

“Can I be completely honest with you?”

    “sure.”

“As soon as I finish my private conversation with the lady I plan to call President Seo Shin-woo. I will talk to him about thanking him and apologizing.”

Emma Miller laughed quietly after hearing the President’s answer.

    “That’s a good idea.”

“Madam do you know what our staff calls the Korean Peninsula these days? It’s a nuclear reactor. A nuclear reactor. The world’s largest nuclear reactor.”

“The reactor. The staff’s wit is quite remarkable.”

“We ended up handing over another nuclear bomb to that reactor… Phew. If I were President Seo Shin-woo… That would be really horrible.”

The Korean Peninsula suddenly became a nuclear reactor.

    Our Pope please stop this
